Big Sean is the Carmelo Anthony of the Rap of his era. Consistency and not seeking attention or having a "big personality" online like Kanye, Travis, Drake, or even Kodak Black is the only thing that stopped Big Sean. And Kanye probably dislikes Big Sean because Sean is really just normal as hell, he's not into the medai b.s. and also his era is just mad competitive, more than he probably anticipated. Big Sean never really played the "internet game" he's a pretty quiet guy. Even J.Cole is controversial when he needs to be (1985, False Prophets, competing with Yeezus, etc., doing the "Beyonce release strategy" right after B) and Future is super quiet but he's consistent and he feeds into the "evil villain/Ciara & Russ" narrative for the past 10 years .. Big Sean doesn't, he's JUST quiet. There's no "viral" clips of Big Sean like that or really anything to talk about. No drug addictions, crazy dating rumors, crash out moments, he's not online trolling even just for laughs like Tyler the Creator or Lucki, even his beef's are very passive. He's like someone you know can whoop ass, but never actually seen fight.
    ---
On the music side of things, I think music wise if he had tried he could really give J. Cole a run for his money and I mean that. Big Sean can rap and perform his ass off. but then you got Kdot who's lyrically the best of his era and can make those "big sean/drake" type hits. You got Drake who can rap andd sing and be super consistent and you got Future who can do the same thing as Drake and oh yeah they dropped a collab album. Then you got younger cats like Asap Rocky and Tyler The Creator who's music videos, beat selection, fashion influence are just next level... oh yeah and they can rap and oh yeah they became a tag team.. then you had Travis Scott , Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, and Playboi Carti, Kodak, XXX and Chance The Rapper who regardless of what anyone says, they dominated a key time which was 2015 - 2020 both musically and on the internet cause they play the game.. they go viral for shit that has nothing to do with music and their music is good. Artists like Big Sean and Wale are artists who just make great music, great performances but don't lean into a narrative .. they just kinda shut up and do their job musically.

It's like you took my through a time machine and brought me to a point when I said something similar to myself and a couple of my high-school friends when I explained to them (at that time) why Big Sean was one of my favorite up-coming artist.
He does just approach it like, "gotta get the work done." Another thing to note was the approach these big-time labels had for new/ up-coming rappers, where they needed a couple of catchy songs that popped. That take was essentially Sean's persona for like the first 2 albums, Finally Famous and Hall of Fame, especially with Dark Sky Paradise being his best album, top 3 album, and the biggest shift in his music from there on.

I think Big Sean doesn't have as large a following because he didn’t inherit fans from other artists. Kendrick is my favorite rapper, and early on, he reminded me of Tupac. J. Cole, in his early days, also had a similar vibe. While they aren’t Tupac, they evoke the same kind of emotion in their lyrics. Drake's enduring presence in the music industry, even in the face of ghostwriting allegations, highlights a fundamental shift in the culture. Today, success in music is as much about relatability, charisma, and the ability to connect with a broad audience as it is about lyrical authenticity. For many fans, Drake's persona and the emotions he conveys through his music outweigh concerns about who penned the lyrics. In an era where music consumption is more democratized and global than ever, the criteria for what makes an artist 'real' have evolved. Authenticity, for a significant portion of the audience, is now more about the feelings a song evokes rather than the technicalities of its creation.

Even tho he cried, that IG live was one of the realest and just most interesting moments we got from Sean...He clearly wants to put himself out there more, I think he just .. and we're all human.. i say this with respect and he's a man before an artist so i get it... but I think he's just afraid to do so. Where it's a a strength for him is he's genuinely a good person where it's a "weakness" is other artists like Carti, Ye, Trav, Drake, Kodak ...even TUPAC, The Rock, LeBron, KD, Kevin Hart for crying out loud .. can give a damn if you think their a good person or bad person.. that's not their problem in their eyes and and they actually and genuinely do not care .. they have the skill of validating themselves and advocating for themselves and could actually in real life give a damn what anyone thinks. A lot of it just has to do with personality. Big Sean comes off as a really, really genuine and good dude but Hip Hop is unfortunately is about controversy and he doesn't have a controversial attitude nor subject matter in his music so he's doing better than 99.7% of rappers but .6% has a beat simply off that in my opinion.

I think to put it simply Big Sean doesn't have a gimmick to boost his fan base. Drake went from loverboy to player to gangster to Jamaican to African (he's a trendhopper), Kendrick is the super complex pro black guy and J. Cole is the hip hop head. Big Sean is a regular dude who just loves rapping. He raps about everyday things on a pretty good level. People don't like his music because there's not much escapism or romanticism. I like his music because very few rappers rap about mundane topics. Im still a new age boom bap guy so he takes a back seat to the Conways, Benny, Bold James, Ransom, 90s rap and 00s rap but he gets more burn than new drake and kendrick from me. I like Lupe better than Kendrick and they talk about the same content with Lupe covering a wider range of subjects.

Ya'll really read this and all yall got was Kendrick vs Lupe lmao? We can have a rap convo without mentioning Kendrick being the best at everything lmao. But yes, I agree Sean's biggest problem and the reason I don't listen to him is that he has no gimmick. He just isn't interesting. Combine that with the "too cool for school" attitude that he can't really pull off effectively and the slightly above average rapping plus the cringy bars - there's nothing really to grab you.

also they be damn near the most expensive. makes sense for how how much food you get and how good it tastes, but i feel like that also helps five guys not need to have a location every half mile like mcds. its never gon be no deals or specials, you just pay what it is and get what you paid for.

I love the fast food comparisons except for Five Guys and Big Sean. While I understand it I personally never went to bat for Big Sean the way I have for Five Guys. There are people who think Five Guys is the best place to get a burger (myself included) but I never heard anyone say Big Sean is better than Kendrick Lamar, which does matter because Five Guys gets compared to In-N-Out and sometimes Whataburger as if they're are equal, so by Rapaholicz logic Big Sean is equal to Kendrick Lamar and J Cole respectively, which again I've never heard. I think a better way to look at it is if you compare Big Sean to a fast food chicken restaurant instead of a fast food burger restaurant, and the perfect example to me is Bojangles because it's big but not as big as McDonald's, In-N-Out, and Whataburger. It's also competing with other fast food chicken restraunts like Chick-fil-A and Popeyes just like Big Sean was still competing with other artists like ASAP Rocky, Travis Scott, Future, and Wale just to name a few who all could have been in the top three in the 2010s as well.

Dude one thing you have to remember, hate the game not the player.
It’s live and let live bro. Let that man have his way in life and in music.
Not everybody follows your moral conditioning, no matter how noble it seems to you. People are just different, different conditions/parenting styles, yield a different outcome.
Let’s admire each other’s differences instead of being pessimistic about tiny flaws we can see in their armor.
Big Sean doesn’t have to become 60 cent.
And 50 cent doesn’t have to become lil Sean.
They are 2 different artists who despite their flaws and conditioning are gifting us their art, and body of work that will have its effect on the people who need it.
We make their body of work (art) our life and shape our world view, but to them it’s just work, like you or me doing a 9to5 or clocking everyday.
Some people are conservative others are progressive. Thats just how the world is and it’s beautiful that way. Imagine if everyone attuned to your views and belief system, that wouldn’t be too good.
There is a reason why you’re making videos hating on people who are braver than you. Maybe your path is different than these bigger artists. Some people are victims of buckold programming (replace the b with a c) and others aren’t. It stems from your childhood and the validation you received from the opposite sex.
Artist have to break past that conditioning to authentically express themselves, and Sean is a veteran who has put in his 10k hours. He’s a master of his craft. A lot of artists are t even able to cohesively put together a sentence better yet express themselves authentically on a track.

I just listened to Big Sean's latest album and I'm honestly disappointed. It's as if he made this just for himself.
Let me tell you something else. Sean's best album, in my humble opinion is Detroit 2. Every few months I go back and listen to some tracks or the whole thing, because it's that good. I think it's his best body of work and such a great album overall.
His latest album is a happy-go, preachy, guru-type stuff that doesn't have anything to do with rap. You can't do a rap album being all positive and in your soft spot about life.
His whole narrative is "I'm so positive. I'm better than you because I see the light. I'm elevated, you're not. I'm so happy I found peace. If everyone would do the same as me, we'd live in a perfect world". No, Sean, no! This should be a rap album, not an enlightening journey.
