Gold link is the male version of Azealia Banks.. Destroying working and personal relationships and besmirching the dead all while not charting or creating new music… impressive.
Knew Goldlink personally, left his homies in Virginia behind, talkin about folks he called his brother, told us to take down a collab we had with him at a time after years of not speaking to us (an all of the lights freestyle), and immediately ignored folks once we respected his decision to this day. That tweet was a glimpse of the type of person he really is, nd we felt like there was a veil that was removed that only we could see through at the time. Felt like there was gaslighting that finally stopped about the type of man Goldlink is/was. He legit was jealous of other artists around him and his project "God Complex" fit too well. - elder!!!
I remember Goldlink explicitly for his rise to fame by adding his whack lyricism he'd puke onto the amazing tracks underground producers on soundcloud would post. Such as AYAY by Fingalick. Everytime he'd buy a track or get permission to use it, it made it worse. Didnt know he was afforded the blessing of Mac Miller

Yeah that's a lie. Everyone who followed Kaytranada, The Internet/Steve Lacy, Vince Staples, SZA, Brent Faiyaz, Masego 2015 - 2016 times were also naturally fans of Goldlink. Just because you weren't there doesn't mean he didn't have a dedicated fanbase

So THAT'S what happened to GoldLink? Dude decided to be the only guy in the game to throw shade at Mac Miller and a whole damn year after Mac had passed? That post was some weirdly narcissistic shit. What a completely fucking terrible move.
Whether or not what he said was true, he had time before Mac passed to either address it or let it go. The problem is how weird the timing is for you to put a personal issue you had with a "friend" out in the public. Waiting until they've been vibing in the ground a while to speak up is a bitch move.
The only Goldlink song I listened to was the crew, never really cared much for anything else. Definitely not the smartest decision to speak on a passed friend that sparked your career, yet helped. R.I.P Mac
It’s just so interesting because GoldLink used to go to my highschool, I didn’t personally know him, but only heard stories. I did however see him at a local soccer game for the home team but that was before COVID.
I never knew what happened to GoldLink. He started off fantastic, but I never knew about any of what you explained above in your video commentary. About a month or so ago I wondered, what happened to GoldLink? He was off and running there for a while. Thanks very much for explaining what happened. The original post GoldLink placed on his IG website was full of jealousy, hatred, and narcissism. He posted what he truly felt about Mac Miller, a key figure in the launching of Goldlink’s career? Man that’s crazy, that’s kamikaze like, that’s suicidal. GoldLink paid a heavy price for being self absorbed and very disrespectful In that post. But just like Goldlink and Kid Rock, the one thing you don’t do is shit on the very person or people who helped launch your career particularly if they meant well for you. There is a price to pay for that.
People are assholes, man. Not Goldlink, but folks who can't accept this was just a guy who was in his feelings about stuff he wanted to say when he was alive making the mistake of posting. If you read the thing, it comes off more as a dude who is sad over something he can't ever resolve than a guy who is hating. Even if he was terrible for doing it, nothing here is remotely unforgivable.
from the perspective of someone like .paak or others very close to him, yes it absolutely is unforgivable the shockwave through the industry matters more than comments and annoying fans

I’m very much a child of the internet and this internet rap shit but I’ll just put it like this; Mac Miller is my favorite modern music artist entirely as someone who spans so much more than just rap. I deeply resonate with him as a beatmaker/instrumentalist because much like him, I enjoy putting lyrics to music but it’s a much more fulfilling and enjoyable challenge to “speak without talking” through instrumentals. As far as Goldlink’s discography, “The God Complex” is good. I don’t have much to say beyond that, about him personally or his music.
He pulled a Vic Mensa. Both were underrated XXL freshman, but disrespected legendary artists that passed away young. Both were my favorite artists also but now I don’t even check for them anymore. Sad.

Exactly. Mac would’ve forgiven him for sure. Goldlink made a huge mistake and I don’t hate him for it. To say someone “stole” ideas from you is wild. As a musician myself, I see how Mac Miller was so inspired by those around him, his environment, and experiences. When you produce your own music, it’s another level of liberation and creativity. Rest in Power Mac, I’m inspired by your music EVERYDAY🤍
