It is frustrating, bc when a person goes to find videos on "how to" we are seeking the specifics, the settings, the know all type of mentality. The images are phenomenal, but to accomplish them we actually need guidance, not just "this is where, this is when" When i came across this video, i was very much relieved , bc it offered those settings that i am desperately trying to learn so, i am very grateful for your willingness to truly teach and not just show your art

Great presentation Deborah!. I can't believe I grew up in/around many of those places in FL that you mentioned and I never thought of photographing them that way. Wish I was more into photography back then. Would have loved to have taken one of your courses. Inspiring stuff.
As a fellow twilight photography enthusiast, I enjoyed watching this. It provided a few tips and hints that I didn't know of (like combining long exposures) and reaffirmed a few things I already do. For water however, I prefer to do shorter exposures to get that "choppy" look because it's more believable but it all depends I suppose.
I actually live about 20 minutes from that long exposure pier in Sanford Fl and have shot it quite a few times myself also using long exposure ;) very cool job on that !
Deborah shares some incredibly beautiful photos, many taken during blue hour (which I really like). And she shows the technical information for every shot. I think that seeing the f-stop, shutter speed, etc. next to a photo helps it sink in a little better than just being told. I watch a lot of photography tutorial videos, and this is the first time I've seen Deborah. I like the way she talks. She has a pleasant personality, she knows what she's doing and she obviously enjoys doing it and sharing how she did it. Her laugh is really cute. And her hair is very pretty. I love the color of it. And just so you know, I'm a guy and I'm a few years older than she is. So I can appreciate her work as a long-time photographer and as a person who has watched hundreds of hours of photography tutorial videos. I think she is sensitive more than nervous. I will show you a nervous sensitive person when confronted with speaking to more than 10 people in public! My jaws muscles lock and I shake uncontrollably! I was happy to see her speak with what I perceived as complete calm.

how do you do such a long exposure and keep moving things such as boats nice and sharp?? are you doing multiple exposures and overlapping? OR..what please??
+mikieson Thank you for your question! Boats generally will have some motion, although I have found with extended exposures, the boats often appear to be relatively sharp if they are in the distance. Thanks Deborah and B+H , I spent a very rewarding 1:20 minutes watching the video. The information I have gleaned here is really going to help me hone my long exposure photography skills! I've already bought some filters from B+H the Hoya ND 400, plus 8x, and 32x digital ND's. On my Pentax K5 with limited lenses they work great. Will likely get the Hoya FLW filter. Have the Cokin Graduated, but will upgrade soon to Lee's system. I love the fun and creative approach you present here. All the best for your further photo explorations and your courses, if you doing an seminars in Scandinavia, the Baltic countries I'd likely join the course!
this winter i saw a article about stacked photography and started playing with it. this is a link to 3 dozen practice shots i did around spokane and northern idaho. this is just a hobby and i do have a lot of learning to do. i have never really done multiple exposure work but have been watching videos and trying to get ideas then i got to wondering. do you think a person could get the same stacking effect by using multiple exposures and multiple frames? my camera will do up to 9 exposures on one frame and that will push that one RAW image from around 20mp to about 30mp. if you could get the same effect this would be a huge space saver. the weather here really hasnt been the best to go out and do good test shots. it seems to either be clear blue skies or totally overcast. i thought i would ask a pro before i spent alot of time chasing something that might not work. also if this idea would work maybe you could do multiple long exposures? or do you think that would just turn the sky into one big smear? this is a link to my stacked photos. some are color and some are infared. ervschleufer.slickpic.com/albums/StackedPhotos112214/?wallpaper also i have been shooting infared pow wow pictures around this area and one over by seattle. i have been using canon digital pro to correct the RAW image white balance then CS6 to swap the red blue channels and most of the final work in lightroom5. i just got started on this at home 18 months ago so its sort of all over the map and that brings up.... are you aware of any place to get good infared presets for lightroom? so far all of my work has been done by trial and error and some luck. this is a link to my picture sharing site. if you have any videos on processing infared please let me know. ervschleufer.slickpic.com/gallery/
In the marina picture (around 10 minutes 30 seconds), how do you avoid motion blur of the boats? I get boats that are blurry since they're moving (albeit slightly) in the water.
Are you using a full frame or crop frame? Did you mention you shoot IR? If so is your camera converted to IR or are you using IR filters and longer exposure. I'd like to try IR with unconverted camera based on that most stock cameras don't have an IR filter that removes all the IR; so that with longer exposure times and the IR filter good results might be possible. Can you give you recipe for IR? Thanks
+Aqull Because a 24MP full frame will not be quite as sharp as a 24MP crop sensor. More pixels are packed into a crop sensor. Unless you are going to enlarge the pic to poster size... crop sensors can give excellent results. It still depends on the person behind the camera of course. Loads of pro shooters use cropped sensors.
Robert Komarek I've only seen an issue with quality at A2 or larger. A2 is when you start to see a little loss of quality (But still very printable). A1 is not possible. A3 is perfect :)
+Bob Marleyswar - To accentuate the color during twilight, Deborah Sandidge seems to recommend starting out with a White Balance of 4000K or 5000K in order to see how it works with the scene: you can adjust from there. In some of her articles, she mentions that auto white balance can be a bit lack luster for the scene. She also seems to use 4000K and 5000K when using the Hoya FL-W Fluorescent filters to achieve violets and golds in her images. *Christina* AskUA-cam@bhphoto.com
Is it really still photography when you layer photos and create a completely different image? Why would capturing the river taxi and freezing the moment be a bland photo? To me it would have been a much better story.
$1K+ Nikkor lenses, LEE sends her free filters, jetting around the world to shoot...the best of everything...I expected to be blown away. What I got was cliché effects, average composition and another moment of wondering how these people become gurus and brand evangelists.
Take a shot of vodka every time she says twilight and a shot of tequila every time she uses the FL filter.. Now that is a fun drinking game isn't it???
I think she's an amateur photographer with better than average gear. Those pictures have nothing special; the kind of stuff I took when I first started doing night photography years ago.
dont know why photographers think you need a mac at all to do all your editing when pcs do just as well with the right software getting a mac doesnt result in better pictures or make things easyer

Composites and heavily edited images have been around long before digital and photoshop.

She's talking about something different - blue hour is darker. It comes before golden hour in the morning, and after golden hour in the evening.
