I feel this so much. My wife and I went through infertility and miscarriages throughout the Folklore and Evermore period. Darkish mode albums during our dark time. Now in a brighter (moreso anyway) musical space, we have a happy little 5 month old girl in the car when we listen, giggly to her Mom and Dad.
Taylor’s albums are the definition of growers. I got into midnight, and honestly had mixed feelings about it. 2 days later, i’m singing along to every song like a manic lol
I agree. On first listen, I liked maybe 2 songs. And now here I am a couple of weeks later, and Midnights broke into my most listened to songs for the last 6 months. Bigger Than The Whole Sky to me is about a loss in general. Her writing is amazing and people can relate to it in many ways. Losing a child, a fast burning relationship that died too soon, a lost friend or parent. It’s such a beautiful song.
Even just the loss of who you were as a kid due to trauma or hardship. Honestly combined with Would've Could've Should've on this album, it makes me feel like she was taking her own losses and the losses of the people close to her, and trying to write a song to express that grief and comfort herself and them?

Congrats on the new apartment. I interpreted 'Bigger than the whole sky' different than most people. She uses the lyrics 'would've, could've, should've' in the song and of course we know a couple songs later is the track with that title. So to me it almost felt like she was talking to herself, saying goodbye to a version of herself that she'll never know, because of this awful thing that happened to her. FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO APPRECIATES LAVENDER HAZE!!!!! It's never in anyone's top 5 from what I've seen, and it's too good for that.. Also.. if you haven't heard Hits Different off the Target exclusive, you should... It's probably one of my favorite songs she's ever written! And Sweet Nothing is already so good, but the strings/piano remix from that same Target exclusive is even better. This woman just never stops making hits and it's very overwhelming lolol
I literally feel like I'm the only one who loves Snow on the Beach 😩😩😩😩😩😩 it just sounds so twinkly and magical and pretty!!! And I think Lana's subtle contribution was so pretty.
Finally someone who likes Sweet Nothing!! It's easily my favorite song on the album. It's just so beautiful and soft and heartfelt. UGH. Same with The Great War. It's probably top 3 for me now. Definitely a grower of a song
I think the general consensus is that the album grows on you HARD. I was not vibing with it at first but I have listened to nothing but Midnights since its release.
i think this is the definition of a grower album because i had my favs at first and others i was very unsure of. NOW??? now im obsessed and have like very few i don't like. ALSO YES this woman is INSANE and like sampled at least one of her other songs in like every song on midnights???? LIKE WHAT????
folklore and evermore felt like rifts in the tcu (taylor cinematic universe) because of covid, but hearing her back to her sound that most of us grew up with is so nostalgic 😭
1989, rep, and lover had a baby and named it midnights. First listen I was all over the place and now I've had it on repeat since it came out. And idc what anyone says mastermind is THAT GIRL
Saame, well I was driving the first time I listened, so that didn’t help. For me it’s the lyrics that really get me into a song, especially if they’re sad😅 or if it’s really good story-telling. But yeah, once I had the time to sit and listen and read the lyrics, I fell in Love with Midnights💞💖💞
You know what? I think this is your best initial ranking of a Taylor Swift album so far. I mean, any ranking I think is valid. All of the songs are incredible in their own unique ways.
I feel like the reason why the 3AM edition was dropped earlier than expected is because the Original Midnights contained songs that have meanings close to how we think before midnight, while the 3AM edition(being 3AM meaning deeper, darker, more personal thoughts come into mind) follows up the deeper midnight time(1-3AM). Also, Dear Reader feels like writing on a journal to help collect your thoughts cuz you can’t sleep due to anxiety and confusion but while writing it, it’s almost dawn.
Bigger than the whole sky is definitely building up to become one of my absolute favorite Taylor songs, just because the way she describes loss (any kind of loss) is so perfect. I lost a dear love and friend when we where 15 and I’ve never found any song that really captures the feeling just like this one.
First off, I’m sorry for your loss. ❤ Secondly, I agree that it’s such a profound song about the loss of anyone…whether it’s a baby, a child, a partner, a sibling, friend, etc. People are speculating that Taylor had a miscarriage and that needs to be taken with a grain of salt because at this point that’s all it is, speculation. With Folklore and Evermore she’s proven that she doesn’t need every song to be autobiographical. I think it’s a testament to how good “Bigger Than the Whole Sky” is that it applies to so many of us for different reasons. For me it was someone whom I loved and cared about but had to let go of. Anyway, if Ash or anyone else cannot relate to this song, I’m honestly happy for her and all of them for not having experienced such a deep loss. I don’t wish that kind of pain on anyone.
Yes theres so many songs that talk about the loss in present tense i guess but never about how you constantly wish and wonder what “could’ve should’ve” been 💔
This album is gonna grow on you so much! To the point that you’ll find yourself bopping to bejeweled randomly (speaking in a sense that it’s in the last of your rankings)
i'm so sorry miss bejeweled for how dirty ash did you in this ranking also i was so excited to see your opinion on the album!!! midnight rain stans rise up
im so happy you got midnights upon first listen. most people, including fans, struggled to like it at first until they really played it for a few days.
I saw a TikTok linking Bigger Than The Whole Sky and Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve together as if she was singing about the loss of herself when she went through the unpleasant-traumatic experience of dating John and what followed after that. It kinda reminiscences to previous and recent lyrics where she refers to herself as midnight rain, that all of her has changed and that she still trying to find her old self. I couldn’t find the tiktok but if I’ll link it once I do so.
So I have thoughts on Bigger Than the Whole Sky and her use of "would've/could've/should've'" in that song as well as naming a song that. I think BTTWS can be a lot of things to a lot of people, and for me personally it resonates in the way you mention in the video. And I think regardless of the kind of loss, it's a song that I think can help people grieve. For Taylor, though, she is always so careful with the words she chooses and her tying those two songs together feels purposeful. I feel like maybe the loss she feels is that for a version of her she never got to be. There was an event/person (cough... J*hn) that sent her off on a different path, and she grieves for her girlhood and the person she should have or could have become had he not come into her life. Regardless, it is a beautiful song on just the best album.
Yes, 3am edition came out at 3am on Oct 21st. She had put a little video that had a schedule for the release week and the next and below the midnights release was a "special chaotic surprise at 3am", which was this version (basically Midnights Vault Tracks) she said in her IG post that doing that with the rerecords has made her love sharing more of the process and more songs and yeah, in case you wanted the context 🙈🙈
Paris at 16 is CRAZYYYY but I respect it. Also we love the Sweet Nothing appreciation!!! Like Taylor and Joe always write sad songs and this is like the first romantic song they wrote together so it's nice she's getting the attention she deserves!
Both Taylor and Demi did that "Now that I'm older/grown" thing on their new albums! Just thought it was a funny coincidence. Demi with her song "29" and Taylor with WCS.
Girl, you said it. Lavender Haze set up the album so freaking well. I felt a bit confused during my first listen because I was expecting something different from Lavender Haze's setup. But the album wasn't that bad tbf! I am LIVING for Sweet Nothing, esp since Joe co-wrote it as well! Tbh, I miss pop-singer Taylor (ala 1989 and rep eras). This album's sound reminded me of if Lover + folklore + evermore had a love child.
Bigger Than The Whole Sky goes right on the list with Ronan and Soon You’ll Get Better. Are they great songs? Yes. Will I die if I listen to them again? Also yes.
as someone who doesn't really stan taylor (im a casual listener with all music) and seeing her release WCS when i was groomed online by someone whos possibly older than me it actually makes me feel so seen bc of how much this whole thing affected my personality (was groomed at 16 and im 20 now) i seriously love taylor for this
as a Rep/lover/folklore girlie myself, this album HIT on first listen for me. every song calls you in some way, they have their own stories. the album isn't as exciting BUT that's not the point - it is so beautiful to listen and think about. maybe it's because people were expecting something else, but i was expecting Lorde's Melodrama vibe and BLONDIE DELIVERED. there are literally samples of melodrama in this album and i am just. astounded. i just love it, possibly my new favourite taylor swift album of all time.
I relate so much on how I want to relate to the loving songs instead of the depressing ones😭 Anti-Hero really called me out esp when I ghost my friends when I'm feeling depressed af also Congrats on the new apartment! I feel so happy and proud seeing you grow🥺
These videos are my medicine and never fail to pop up when I’m on shaky ground, or the edge of a cliff… Dr. Ash, you’re doing so much good in this wretched world…
i absolutely LOVE the lyricism in this album. i listen to it all the time. the one thing that turns me off from it though is the absence of strong beats. it’s very monotonous. if every song had the dynamic variety of hits different, karma, and lavender haze, the entire album would slap
I'm probably in the minority who absolutely is in love with Vigilante Shit, definitely top three in my world. I will say I'm pleased to see it at least in top 10 for you, any lower is a crime. The remaining top 5 in my world are Maroon, Would've Could've Should've, You're On Your Own Kid, and Bejeweled. Overall, very enjoyable album all around!
There’s so many interpretations for BTTWS, but I’d like to put it in these two ways. 1. It’s about the friend Taylor sang about in “Forever Winter.” I think, because of the re-recording of Red and previous records, Taylor got a chance to relive her past stories. Through the opportunity, she reconnected with her older mindset, and was once again influenced by the leaving of her friend. Growing older in life brought her new thoughts on the loss, which was not presented during the writing of Forever Winter. 2. The experience of losing from someone in her life. Someone close to Taylor underwent the sadness of losing a person in their life, and turned to her to express their feelings. Through the session, Taylor became emotionally attached to the loss. Therefore, she wrote the song as a way of releasing her inner grief. As for other interpretations, I believe it is up to you and your experiences. It’s okay to project your own past on the song and seek comfort out of it. Before ending this comment, I just want to tell everyone, who had gone through or is going through the loss of a crucial part in life, that I am sorry for your loss. Take as much time as you need to. I hope you will feel better or get to a better place eventually.

the great war is literally vi arcane 🥺 like every lyric fits perfectly and i'm going insane
speaking of arcane, sweet nothing is so caitvi from vi’s perspective and labyrinth is caitvi from caitlyn’s perspective
@@yonoexiste WAIT UR RIGHT that's perfect 😢
is it just me or Ashley looks so much happier and healthier in this video?? like her energy in this one is another level and she gives off extra fun energy now I'm absolutely loving ittt 🖤
i actually felt like her vibes were sorta off, its like she was a lil dead inside or drained of energy. maybe im weird😂
WE LOVE TO SEE IT
@@eclipsesmoon you are

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO APPRECIATES LAVENDER HAZE!!!!! It's never in anyone's top 5 from what I've seen, and it's too good for that.. Also.. if you haven't heard Hits Different off the Target exclusive, you should... It's probably one of my favorite songs she's ever written! And Sweet Nothing is already so good, but the strings/piano remix from that same Target exclusive is even better. This woman just never stops making hits and it's very overwhelming lolol
For real!! Lavender Haze is my absolute fave! It hasn't changed since I've done my ranking! Still #1
it's my third song in my ranking after karma and anti-hero
ITT WAS THE SONG THAT GOT ME STANDING, I absolutely love it
Huh who do you follow? Most of my friends have lavender haze as their top or top 5 songs. I have seen so many swifties say they love it.
I literally feel like I'm the only one who loves Snow on the Beach 😩😩😩😩😩😩 it just sounds so twinkly and magical and pretty!!! And I think Lana's subtle contribution was so pretty.
@@dheerajvelamuri LOL omg ❤️ you and I will singlehandedly keep snow on the beach on the charts
I do toooo THE VIBES ARE SO MAGICAL
I would not call Lana's contribution subtle. Her signature was all over the melodies and vibe of the song, and her backing vocals were omnipresent
I love it but I want more lana🥲
you're not alone 😭 its so calming 🥺
Finally someone who likes Sweet Nothing!! It's easily my favorite song on the album. It's just so beautiful and soft and heartfelt. UGH. Same with The Great War. It's probably top 3 for me now. Definitely a grower of a song
ME TOOOOO
I think the general consensus is that the album grows on you HARD. I was not vibing with it at first but I have listened to nothing but Midnights since its release.
When the world needed Ashley the most, she came back
girl I’ve been subscribed since you had that tapestry as your background! Absolutely proud to see you got your own place! Congratulations Ash!
Honestly miss the tapestry 🤣 glad she’s going places though!!
SHES FINALLY HERE
Every time I hear Lavender Haze I can't help but vibe. It's truly a masterpiece.
i think this is the definition of a grower album because i had my favs at first and others i was very unsure of. NOW??? now im obsessed and have like very few i don't like.
FINALLY SOME MIDNIGHT RAIN APPRECIATION
1989, rep, and lover had a baby and named it midnights. First listen I was all over the place and now I've had it on repeat since it came out. And idc what anyone says mastermind is THAT GIRL
I'm so glad you like Midnight Rain. Because I think the song was really hit or miss with that vocal change, but i really like it.
I love how she said “I want more lavender haze” RIGHT before midnight rain 😂
honestly the first time i listened through the album there were a lot of songs i didn't care for, but the more i listen to it the more obsessed i am
SAME
That's how I feel about all the early track before midnight rain! They grown on me now tho!
Saame, well I was driving the first time I listened, so that didn’t help. For me it’s the lyrics that really get me into a song, especially if they’re sad😅 or if it’s really good story-telling. But yeah, once I had the time to sit and listen and read the lyrics, I fell in Love with Midnights💞💖💞
me too but it definitely grew on me… a lot
it's one of those albums that the more you listen to it the more you like it
THANK YOU FOR GIVING LABYRINTH THE LOVE IT DESERVES
Yes theres so many songs that talk about the loss in present tense i guess but never about how you constantly wish and wonder what “could’ve should’ve” been 💔
THANK YOU FOR FEEDING US THIS FOOD INTERNET MOM 🙏🙏🙏
This album is gonna grow on you so much! To the point that you’ll find yourself bopping to bejeweled randomly (speaking in a sense that it’s in the last of your rankings)
when the modulated voice comes in in labyrinth, ashley ascended to another level of existence
"why cant i relate to the lovey songs" THATS SO MEEE all her sad songs r so relatable and hit so hard, like wouldve couldve shouldve just destroys me

i'm so sorry miss bejeweled for how dirty ash did you in this ranking
also i was so excited to see your opinion on the album!!! midnight rain stans rise up
im so happy you got midnights upon first listen. most people, including fans, struggled to like it at first until they really played it for a few days.
QUEEN I knew I could count on you to give midnight rain the respect 👏 it 👏 deserves 👏👏
She had put a little video that had a schedule for the release week and the next and below the midnights release was a "special chaotic surprise at 3am", which was this version (basically Midnights Vault Tracks) she said in her IG post that doing that with the rerecords has made her love sharing more of the process and more songs and yeah, in case you wanted the context 🙈🙈
the way she wrote viglante shit on her own... and the others she at least had jack to write with her.... ICONIC.
This album's sound reminded me of if Lover + folklore + evermore had a love child.
ms ashley ippolito pls clear your ears and listen to youre on your own kid because that is one of the best track 5s we have gotten
i love that it looks like you're being resurrected from your bed every time you love a new part
Bigger Than The Whole Sky goes right on the list with Ronan and Soon You’ll Get Better. Are they great songs? Yes. Will I die if I listen to them again? Also yes.
Her making Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve track 19. ICONIC, ya’ll, ICONIC.
im so glad you liked dear reader, its so underrated i feel like everyone is sleeping on it😭
This little moments in my life is what I call happiness
The way her soul ascended when Labyrinth's breakdown came on
as someone who doesn't really stan taylor (im a casual listener with all music) and seeing her release WCS when i was groomed online by someone whos possibly older than me it actually makes me feel so seen bc of how much this whole thing affected my personality (was groomed at 16 and im 20 now) i seriously love taylor for this
hope you fully heal one day!

FINALLY someone giving lavender haze the top spot as it deserves👏🏼
as a Rep/lover/folklore girlie myself, this album HIT on first listen for me. every song calls you in some way, they have their own stories. the album isn't as exciting BUT that's not the point - it is so beautiful to listen and think about. maybe it's because people were expecting something else, but i was expecting Lorde's Melodrama vibe and BLONDIE DELIVERED. there are literally samples of melodrama in this album and i am just. astounded. i just love it, possibly my new favourite taylor swift album of all time.
I relate so much on how I want to relate to the loving songs instead of the depressing ones😭 Anti-Hero really called me out esp when I ghost my friends when I'm feeling depressed af
also Congrats on the new apartment! I feel so happy and proud seeing you grow🥺
These videos are my medicine and never fail to pop up when I’m on shaky ground, or the edge of a cliff… Dr. Ash, you’re doing so much good in this wretched world…
And I thought I am the only one whose favourite song is Sweet Nothing!
i absolutely LOVE the lyricism in this album. i listen to it all the time. the one thing that turns me off from it though is the absence of strong beats. it’s very monotonous. if every song had the dynamic variety of hits different, karma, and lavender haze, the entire album would slap
so far we’re literally the opposite with favs omgg but i feel like that’s what makes the album like there’s something for everyone
My ranking still hasn't settled. There's a Lot of growers on this album for me.
Congratz on the new place!
i just cant make a ranking yet BUT my faves are maroon and the great war fr THIS ALBUMS SOUNDS SO DIFFERENT ONCE YOU GET ALL THE BACKSTORIES!!!!!!
Congrats on the new place. She’s growing up your honor 😢 I’m so proud ♥️♥️
Midnight Rain was my first favorite on my initial listen and it's still absolutely top 3, I knew you were gonna love it and I'm so glad I was right!!
not question being my favorite after lavander haze 😭
yES TO ANOTHER MIDNIGHT RAIN ENTHUSIAST! for some reason i can’t find a lot of people who enjoy it like are they fr💀
I liked this album overall, but those downtempo tracks *HIT.* They just *_HIT!_*
