Love the upper Suwannee! That tree just shy of your campsite for the first night(looked very familiar, I think that's where we camped on our first night), was our first pull over. I was able to parallel park my kayak, straddle the tree and then pull our yaks over it. Shows just how much water we had to work with. The section immediately after that is gorgeous, like paddling through an orchard. Loved the video! Great to relive the experience through another set of eyes.
Everything I've read has told me the Upper Suwannee is wild and rough. Now I have seen it thanks to you. The low water didn't help. Type 2 fun is fitting but you have to feel accomplished now. I say good on you! I can't wait to see the rest. I'm going to do this river in 2023 but I'll put in at Roline.
OMG your the man! My husband and I have tried to make it from the state park and gave up. What a shame the state of Georgia has this amazing canoe/kayak trail and won't clean it out so the average person can actually make that trip. You have made an awesome and informative video for us to dream of making the trip from Fargo to Suwannee. To bad you had to make the trip alone the buddy system would have helped on the difficult portages.
There aren't a lot of access points in that section. There's the launch at the sill, the Fish Camp (which is more of just a beach), and at Fargo. People if spoken to who had paddled the river shortly before I did said those fallen trees were new. I did paddle under another tree that had some saw cuts in it so some people seem to try and keep it clear. Don't let the trees stop you guys though. With another person those portages would be cake.
I can't believe you wanted to do that trip in September, south Georgia is a sanna at that time of year. Yellow flies and no-se-ums are awful. Should have done it in November or February.
I started this trip at the end of June. Didn't have much of an issue with the no-se-ums and the yellow flies were only, really, a problem on that first night. The heat almost did me in, however, on day 1. As a teacher, November and February are not the best times for me to be able to do trips like this. So, summer it is.
I have a foldable saw, just not a Silky, and definitely not big enough for those trees lol I use a program called Route Generator. It's pretty easy to use. I just upload my GPS track and it'll help with the map and then animate it. Done in less than 5 minutes.
I see you have a GPS clipped to your vest. I am in the process of getting gear together for a kayak trip myself. Mind sharing the make and model of the GPS and if you would buy it again or is there another you might prefer.
It's a Garmin inReach Explorer+. I got that one specifically for the messaging ability and the SOS feature (although any Garmin with inReach in it will have that, too). I would absolutely buy it again.
Great video Chris! Thanks for bringing us along.
This makes me love my ultralight canoe more.
Enjoyed. Thanks.
If you forget eating spoon you make one with wood! No big deal!
Exactly.
We have paddled & camped a good bit in the Swamp & are wondering why you went during summer?
I'm a teacher so taking the 2 weeks off to do a trip like this during the more pleasant time of year is, unfortunately, not an option.
@@RadiantAdventures we do Thanksgiving break 🙌🏻

It is wild and can be rough, but is totally worth doing. I'll try not to take another 2 months to get the next part up. LOL
Should have jumped in the water and cooled off right after that first portage, I know I would have!
Love the videos man!

What type of blade is that.?
It's a NRS Pilot knife.
Great video! I suggest investing in a Silky Saw for those trees. Also, how did you film the map segways showing your path & stats?

109:49 . I wouldn't want him pulling my trailer.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆😆😂😂😂😂😂🤪🤪🤪🤪😘
23:14 Shorten the rope, you'll have a lot less friction on the ground !!!! Its a no brainer LOL.
Thanks for the tip!

@@RadiantAdventures Seems to have it all. A very nice unit.
He could make a spoon out of a stick. Easy easy.
You needed to unload, carry and reload in the cross over
Tell me you couldn't carve a spoon.....
also, two words, kayak kart... just saying.
I believe it’s called Suwanee town Florida.
