Baptism at Hurricane Pass - First Experience Rough Water Sea Kayaking UNCUT - Feb 24, 2024
I met up with a fellow member of Tampa Bay Sea Kaykers to get some seat time in more dynamic, rough waters. We launched from Dunedin Causeway to play in Hurricane Pass and I had a BLAST! This video is uncut from the moment I hit record, to the moment I shut if off and stowed it in my day hatch.

Man we just finished watching all of your videos of your Suwannee River trip from the Okefenokee to Suwannee..... That was absolutely awesome! We've canoe camped in the Okefenokee every Thanksgiving since 2019, but we only average about 30 miles total over the course of 3 days... It's that stagnant water like you experienced in Billy's Lake when you first left Stephen C. Foster in the Okefenokee, but we want to eventually do the entire length of the Suwannee. Yours was by FAR the best, most in-depth video I've found! I was getting pissed for you as I watched, as you kept coming up on so many downed trees between the Okefenokee & Fargo 🤣

I don't remember how much I took with me on this trip, but there is potable water at each of the campsites. When I did my full river through paddle I brought 3-4 Nalgenes and an MSR Guardian water purifier. I filtered most of the water I drank that trip.

I started this trip at the end of June. Didn't have much of an issue with the no-se-ums and the yellow flies were only, really, a problem on that first night. Excellent video! I have paddled the Santa Fe many times, it is so beautiful and peaceful. The water was very low during your trip, which is great because it means fewer motorboats and more interesting water currents/rapids. I found the stretch after the Itchetucknee particularly interesting with all of the creative "hillbilly playground" setups, slides, rope swings, etc.

Great video, this was fun to watch! I have kayak/camped a few parts of the Ocklawaha and also paddled the Silver River a couple of times. These are some of Florida's best waterways. The gators, monkeys, snakes, otters, and other wildlife are superb. I had to "embrace the suck" when I did a 20-mile overnight trip starting at the confluence of the Silver River in the middle of summer--mosquitoes galore! When we got to Gore's Landing, my teenage son begged me to call the shuttle to pick us up. Naturally, I refused, and he thanked me later because he really enjoyed the second day when we saw a bunch of big gators. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
