One of the biggest snubs in the last few years of gaming. Spider-Man 2 being nominated despite being absolutely mediocre was offensive. And Ben Starr not cleaning out VA awards was even worse. In 10 years people will look back at this and wonder what kind of drugs the election committees were consuming.
Clive voice actor definitely deserves a reward but the games itself is not an GOTY. Amazing boss fights and good story doesn’t = GOTY. Beside the bosses, the gameplay is boring, there nothing to do in the open world, and the fucking side quests is horrible. I was really disappointed with combat because the director of DMC was in it, and its it was a 1 combo and one button special attack. In DMC you can do different combo, you can delay, hold, and press rapid the attack. The game could have use the Elkons as weapon like in DMC. For example, Titans could have your straight hand to hand combat like how Balrog was in for DMC. I could go on more but I don’t want to make it long.
10:27:38 this might be one of the coolest things I've seen in ff16 gameplay. Bro got knocked 50ft into the air, limit breaked mid air, and then dodged the boss' attack while falling. CINEMA.
I had a moment like that during the guardian fight in the leviathan dlc. Phoenix dashed, got frozen mid animation as soon as he goes for the attack I finished the dash animation completely dodging the attack. Felt so fuckin cool
@@AdrianG23228The classic Phoenix Shift evasion. That shit is like a fucking power teleport move. On a frozen attack against the Timekeeper, it's the instantaneous "Think fast!" that makes the move so OP.
He really went and did a whole 11hr stream for this, I couldn't be happier! Mad respect for pushing through this in one stream, games my GOTY for last year for sure, what a gem!!!
I’m not sure if anyone mentioned it (and i haven’t finished the video yet) but if you plan on doing the dlc, wether for the channel or by yourself I’d absolutely recommend doing Jill and Joshua’s side quests. That’ll unlock them as permanent party members for the post game
***SPOILERS*** I went in deep to figure out if clive dies at the end. while looking it up, i saw no one has a real answer, but i think i figured it out. If you do all the side mission stuff, they repeatedly talk about clive documenting his journey/story, for others to read. with that in mind, if you listen at the start of the game, its clives voice telling you a story. The language he uses tells you that its a story he is telling you. The narrative structure at the end continues it. The game was his story. At the end they showed the book with Joshuas name, after we saw that he was dead and couldnt be revived in order to write it. Clive took joshuas name, the same way he took cids name so that joshua could live on/be remembered. The book at the end was the story of clives journey/the whole game. Even further proof, is that it has info joshua couldnt have had about events after his death (the baby birth, and how the events unfolded). Clive lived.
See, that's the way I always interpreted it too. There's also the bit where Jill stops crying and smiles at the Sunrise. And there's a bit in a sidequest where Jill basically says that she looks forward to the sunrise because she to her, it symbolizes that Clive will return to her. The game intentionally keeps it vague, but it all seems to hint towards Clive surviving the curse (we know people CAN survive the curse for an extended period of time as long as they don't over-use their powers. Like Cid and Jill) and going on to take up Joshua's name to write a book. But there are still people (the community seems to be divided 50/50) who will argue up and down that Clive definitely died and that he must have used Ultima's power to revive Joshua. Mainly because they feel like that would be more satisfying.
They spent like 50 hours of the main story explaining Ultima and leading up to the ending. The entire game from the beginning was always leading up to it. To say that Ultima felt forced is just crazy
And Ultima was literally introduced at the beginning of the game. The entire fight with Typhon and Joshua sealing him in his chest. Like the entire game and story revolved around Ultima.
@kronikassassin see I think Ultima just isn't compelling. What would have been better, in my opinion, is having Odin trick Ultima and then him somehow taking all of Ultima's power to bring back his dead mother which requires having the blight consume Valestia. Would have just been the exact same until after the boat and they could tighten up the ending and just have 1 more massive chaotic fight.
@user-wb3qe6pv1u it would surely have to be reworked into the plot but it would simply would be better to have Odin as the final boss rather than just Ultima. The devs already admitted they ran out of budget for Odin's boss fight too so just combine the two and make 1 last blowout extravaganza.
@@aytony4090the devs never ever said that. That’s an assumption made up by people disappointed we didn’t get an Eikon/Ifrit section. And to each their own regarding Barnabas being the last boss.
@@fairycurls idk besides the quest forced on you for the red chocobo, I just grabbed all side quests and did whichever was on the way to an objective only doing detours when close to hunts and by end game I’d already done like 90% of them. And most of them usually added to the lore/world building of the game so I enjoyed them.
@@fairycurls tbf, people who complain about the lack of plot can't complain about there not being plot when skipping through quests that explain it, regardless of how much of a drag it can be. He can definitely complain about it being tedious however lol.
@@fairycurlsthe sidequests exist for world building and lore, not gameplay unfortunately. If you want to know more about the lore, you need to do the sidequests
Bruh, if you need to play side quest just to know about who the final boss is, then it's a bad game design. side quest should be about the side characters and their story, not about a missing piece of the story. Look at Yakuza series. That game had over hundreds of side quests, and none of them affected the plots.

Ben Starr did deserve to win the award over Neil Newbon imo. Both did a great job, but Ben Starr was really a standout in this game. Astarion just got the thirst vote lmao.
I actually agree with what you said about the Buster Sword. That’s like, 3-4 characters that aren’t Angeal, Zack, and Cloud who were shown to wield that thing now.

It’s just because the final fantasy fanbase hated that it was an action game and not turn-based.
