- MP Edwina Currie and Apprentice contestant Katie Hopkins come to verbal blows as they disagreed over the sacking of Andy Gray by Sky Sports.
The ladies were both guests on the panel on Question Time when they were asked by a member of the audience: 'Is the sacking of Andy Gray by Sky an appropriate response to sexism or a nation losing its sense of humour?' - Розваги

...except calling someone a 'fat slob' is not a bigoted opinion she arrived at with stereotypes about his gender, race, etc, whereas his comments made about the linesman were. Her comment was immature and childish, but not bigoted and in nowhere near the same league. Your point would be entirely correct if Currie had said "Gray is a fat slob because he's a man", or any other such statement.

Instead, they laughed. and rightly so because it was funny. Keys and Gray aren't in a minority, they are in a majority. this innocent idea of a man which women think exists. It will take another few hundred years before there's a change, but in the meantime just accept it.

Kieran Young Yes, that is its principle. I think that Matthew was referring to more about what a movement that was originally fighting for equality has become.
The audience weren't clapping for her at nothing. She brought up valid points about people being paid on their performance, and the fact that it's a tough world out there. There should be no exception for women or anybody else. And it's true that some women can't handle equality, because lets face it, equality does not simply mean women's rights, it also means being treated the same way as men are treated and some women don't like that.

you do realise, that's not what they mean by pay gap. Pay gap means not being paid the same amount for doing the same job.
Music box Of course I know that. And its a lie that women get paid less than men for the same job with the statistics you always see them use. If women get paid less than men for the same job and there is no reason for it, they can get all manor of fines down on them and sue their asses off, not to mention make an example of them. We don't see that, because they can't show that. The pay check fairness act changes nothing that the pay descrimination laws established decades ago already set up.
What the "wage gap" claims do is compare average income of men vs women. So men on average work in higher paying fields and work longer hours. Therefore to equalise the "pay gap" women need to work as much as men work. But its even wrong-er than that, since we can actually find many occupations and even male dominated occupations where women are paid more than men! We also can see that single childless women under 30 also earn more than men! Once you start accounting for variables such as occupation type and hours worked, you see the wage gap not only get reduced to almost nothing but can also be shown to go the other direction.
But we dont see this as descrimination, we see this as a good thing. Its actually LEGAL to descriminate against men. But we will believe complete lies about pay descrimination against women, using statistics that literally will compare a stock broker working 90 hours a week to a waiter working 7 hours a week, and then ask why there is a difference in earnings. Well gee, I wonder why the waiter might earn less?

The stupid it hurts my eyes. No thats exactly what the paygap is. The difference in mean earnings between men and women. Thats it, every time a man does over time, shift bonus, confined spaces, danger money explosives etc (maternaty pay is not included in the statistics as that would point out that women earn more for working less, but dont let that put you off) they contribute to the pay gap. The only way you will get rid of it is for 50% of all these factors to be done by women. Simply paying women more to work less will have the opposite effect as it wont change the mean. If you want to close the pay gap go work on an oil rig. No? Didnt think so...

I did my best to listen Chuka Umanna and the other panellists (apart from Katie) and the points they were trying to express, but all I could see were people doing their best to stay in the cushion of the PC bubble. They just dare not step outside of the safety of mainstream expectation.
If these people don't condone banter, a bit of piss taking, or a risqué joke etc.... what do they actually do in social circles? Just sit like silent robots amongst each other and smile? Pay is generated by crowds and TV exposure, that’s why Premier league players are paid more than League 2; why full Internationals get paid more than under 18s; why footballers get more than hockey players, and why women footballers are paid more than women netball players! All I'm going to say is that Andy Gray never said that she doesn't know the offside rule because she's a woman, he just said she didn't know the offside rule. What's wrong with that? There are plenty of male linesmen who also need educated on the offside rule and if he'd have said that about one of them it would have gone unnoticed. The fact that this linesman was a woman was completely irrelevant to the point he was making which was that the linesman doesn't know the offside rule. Where's the sexism in saying that a linesman regardless of the gender isn't very good?
