Imagine Miquella awaking in a city of blood, twisted and warped by Mogh's dark magics; his sister, gone, the other demi-gods, defeated. Just him, and him alone...I can't wait for DLC to feature him. >:)
I think Miquella's alter ego St. Trina (saint of sleep/dreams) adds more context to his slumber. I'm convinced Elden Ring's DLC will let us enter his dream. Also, fun little environment detail I found while exploring. In the consecrated snowfields you can find a sending gate that is covered in blood that takes you to the foot of the Mohgywn Dynasty mausoleum. The implication is that it was used to smuggle Miquella's cocoon out of Elphael. Fantastic environmental storytelling in my opinion because it made feel like a great detective lol.
I believe that his "Slumber" is more like he is in a coma, Gideon says that Mogh cut open the Haligtree to get Miquella out and I'm no doctor of Demi gods but that would put him on a coma, that's why no matter what Mogh did he never awoke.
That lore behind Malenia's swordsmanship mentor eluded me. Good finding there! If her mentor once defeated and sealed an ancient god, no wonder Malenia herself can become that formidable. I can already imagine the blind swordsman decided to teach Malenia because he didn't want Malenia to solely rely on the power of her scarlet rot. And I suppose may also explain why there's a lake of rot deep underground when we do Ranni's quest, far away from both Caelid and the Haligtree. Regarding the Haligtree, it's interesting to note that despite how the albinaurics see Miquella's Haligtree as some sort of a promised land, we never encountered any on the haligtree itself. We only get to see the albinaurics on the consecrated snowfield as we make our way to the Haligtree. Also, Loretta. She originally belonged to the Carian family, never dismount from her horse, favor archery to the point of creating her own series of sorceries. She went all the way to the Haligtree to find a safe place for the albinaurics, even to the point of becoming a guardian to the tree, while still keeping guard on the Carian manor with her phantom. All these points make me think that she's either an albinauric herself (one that has much greater specs than her brethren?), or at the very least a human who spent a long time living with the albinaurics (a la Tarzan, perhaps?). Wow you hit the nail on the head with so many of these points! I'm working on a video for the Albinaurics and noticed that same exact thing about their lack of presence at the Haligtree. I think that upon seeing it wasn't some big promised land like so many of them dreamed, they gave up. The Haligree was supposed to be the new Erdtree and they wouldn't be seen as graceless under its rule, but that never happens. I can imagine them just feeling defeated by then. They have such a sad story.
What are your thoughts on the new info given about Miquella in the cut content? It's outright confirmed that he's St. Trina, and according to some of the datamines, not only is he a Demigod of Growth and Sleep/Dreams, he also has his own unique weapon made from his Great Rune and combined with Malenia's (like how combining the swords of the Twin Princes in DS3 created a new weapon). I believe the datamine also mentioned that Miquella is attached to a 7th ending which follows a questline with Gideon Ofnir, which I'm super intrigued about, since Miquella and Ranni (and maybe Marika too) seem to be the only ones trying to rebel against the influence of Outer Gods.
I definitely think we will see Miquella DLC. With the St. Trina stuff, it could allow for some cool ways to explore a new world, maybe some kind of dream world even where Miquella is stuck? They may have taken that out of the game to refine and add to it. I can already see a "Miquella's Nightmare" site of grace 🤣
They really do have such a sad story. Clearly Miquella just wanted to change life for the better and was never able to see that to fruition, and so many had to suffer because of it.

Before getting to Haligtree I thought it would be a thriving place full of npcs lol I thought I was used to fromsoft's flavor of tragedy but seeing that place in such a state was a punch to the gut because you could *feel* the wasted potential everywhere, how they were so close to becoming a safe haven for the downtrodden, a last bastion of hope that got snuffed too soon 😕 and even then, Malenia and the knights never stopped believing in it

Having played the Souls for over the past 7 years, I have observed one primary element in the matters of story telling: they are all works in progress. However, unlike the previous games, E.R.’s lore is perhaps the one that bears this element the most. If you look at the various NPC questlines, such as Patches and Tanith’s, you’ll learn that their none of them are fully completed yet. I have a feeling that the same could be said for both Miquella and Malenia. What if the future DLC allows you to interact with both characters? Miquella’s storyline seems to be all about healing Malenia’s so her being dead would just end his quest then and there. My theory is that you can interact with them both. But if we are supposed to rouse Miquella back from his sleep and use whatever secrets he keeps to heal Malenia? Imagine the alternate ending we could get from this! Unless of course, Miyazaki plans to make Miquella’s story a depressing tragedy like everyone else’s.
Once again, absolutely well done! I thought that I knew about Melania and Miquella enough prior to watching the video and I was wrong. Your breakdown of their lore and their overall story was beautifully elegant and very well written and put together. In Dark Souls 1 we got a beefy DLC about Knight Artorias and his adventure to Abyss. In main game there were not many details about him but DLC gave us lots of juicy lore. I hope they do the same for Miquella as well. He is the only Demigod we haven't interacted directly.
Whats wild about that too is, Artorias DLC was never going to happen initially. Because DeS failed they were assuming the worst for Dark Souls, so Bloodborne development began immediately after DS release. But then it became cult classic immediately, so BAMCO contacted em to make DLC and so Artorias DLC was born...

I'm not one that reads all of the item descriptions so I really appreciate these lore videos to help fill in the blanks. In my head canon I imagine my tarnished to have spent too much time in Caelid (grinding) and caught scarlet rot as a result.

I enjoy the format of your storytelling, I do have questions of references as to when Miquella disappeared, as this speaks to motivation as to why Malenia would care about Radhan or risking challenging him unless, 1. Miquella deemed it necessary or 2. She was led to believe Radhan had taken him…🤔
Yeah the reasoning (or lack of) behind her war campaign is interesting; in my head I imagine that she left before Miquella was kidnapped and has no idea that he’s gone so I’m thinking she left before that

He goes into the tree with the body as a child. As he grows so does the haligtree. He gets robbed after growing for some time. You see him in a cocoon. You see cocoons all around the haligtree. Cocoons often signify transformation. Maybe he was in the middle of his when he was stolen. Hence he looks larger but stuck in limbo
I will be curious to see what we learn about Miquella from the DLC. The St Tina stuff, along with sleep mechanic being absent and even cut outta the game... Should be fun to see all this revealed eventually
Yes! I think they're definitely going to explore more of the St. Trina storyline. They've teased it being related to sleep and dreams, so I'm wondering if maybe there will be a dream world Miquella is trapped in? Could have a ton of potential!
I think that Mogh and the Formless Mother were called to Miquella and Melania's cursed blood when Miquella watered the Haligtree with his blood! Also, interesting that Gowry, servant of the Goddess of Rot, cannot die; he returns again and again as one of the pests (the Kindred of Rot). When you first kill Gowry, his dialogue ("always more pests") suggests that he may actually possess the pests. The only other character that can possess bodies seems to be Shabriri, an agent of another Outer God; is Gowry also an envoy of a similar kind? Or is Gowry an experiment of Miquella's, a rot spirit able to be renewed in a new corrupted body? Is Gowry actually a tricksome Shabriri in another form? Have we seen evidence of the other flowering? There have been two, but there is no flower in Aeonia, was it carried all the way to the Haligtree, is that the one there? Where and why was the other flowering?
One thing that stuck out to me was how large Miquella's hand was. I know he's a Demigod, but the scale of how large his hand is in Mohg's proves there was physical growth in his chrysalis in the Haligtree, seeing how he was cursed with eternal youth.

I never knew that the scarlet flower after defeating Malenia was Malenia herself just being asleep😮I really really hope that for the DLC we can get a new dialogue/cutscene with Malenia in which we can reunite her with Miquella (would only work if we played the DLC before defeating Malenia). I would also hope to have a new ending but I think I heard that Miyazaki already said that the DLC won't open up a new ending for the main game
In alchemy, which heavily inspired the game, a seed, and an apple are the same being. But where the outer fruit of the apple rots and decays, it provides nourishment to the seed within. You can take that for what you will.

Oh I like that, maybe Mogh saw that as an alluring thing about him! And yeah I noticed that about the Omen being absent there; I'm not sure how freely they would have been able to travel or would they have been accepted? I think they deserve a better ending too, one of the many persecuted groups that deserve better.
I'm sure most of you are familiar with the cut content that was "dream brew" by now. I wonder how that would have interacted with Miquella. Maybe they'll add it back in with a patch or just tie it into the dlc somehow. I feel like it's gonna come back somehow at any rate.
Yes!! I totally think we're going to get dream DLC with Miquella. Maybe killing him in the dreamworld he's stuck in? The story should be great whatever they do with it.
Millicent's quest was one of my favorites and yet it also ended up being very disappointing because it doesn't affect anything with the twins. Millicent says she wanted to return to Malenia her "dignity, the sense of self, that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlet rot", but that never happens. If you kill Mohg, and thus have more or less "rescued" Miquella, and also have the Unalloyed Gold Needle to relieve the effects of scarlet rot, theoretically Malenia should have no need to fight you (you've solved both her problems), but no such option exists. If they still wanted the fight to happen there could've at least been new dialogue, something like "You've done so much, yet I need your Great Runes to replace Marika/become Elden Lord."
Well, you can give it to her after the fight thus getting Miquella's needle. it is odd its only tied to frenzy ending so far. I think itd be cool to see Malenia again if there is a Miquella DLC, one that acknowledges her getting the needle.
@@darthacez yeh exactly. I dont think she can ever die, because she died against radahn, came back, then used her flower again to Kamikaze radahn. And like this video mentions, her flower got carried back to Haligtree.

I really like the story of the game and its lore in general, this part with milenia and miquella in particular, i think its a very sad piece of lore and i would have loved to know that while playing the game, its kind of sad that the game has such a weird way of telling its story but im really thankful to you for enlightening me with this video.

Im currently looking into the ancestral spirit worshipers and the crucible. I really think the two are closely related. There's clear evidence in their loot pools but theres more to it I think.

I have this theory that ties Ranni to Miquella and it’s brought much of the story together. It starts with the The Beast Eye. “Claw-marked stone eye received from Gurranq, Beast Clergyman. It is said to tremble when near Deathroot. The murky violet iris writhes as if alive. "I am not sated... Feed me more...Death..." I personally believe that the Item description is the key to tying it to the Dusk/Gloam eyed queen aka Marika the eternal. The short version is that judging from Iji and Ranni’s dialogue, we know that when each Empyrean are chosen by their two fingers, they are given a shadow that will betray them if they should ever go against the Greater Will. When Marika began to plot against the Greater Will, I believe Maliketh used Marika’s own Great Rune, Destined Death, against her and took the eye after impaling her with the crimson spear you see in the final arena. It would explain why her corpse is missing her left eye, why the eye has a claw mark, and is surrounded by Marika’s stony flesh. This eye could very well have been passed down to some of her children as well. Melina- she reveals to have the same eye, on the same side of her face, in the lord of frenzy ending. Malenia - obviously this is pure speculation but I think the rot that covers her eyes was an intentional creative decision to hide this very secret. Miquella - maybe we’ll find out in the DLC Ranni - It’s hard to tie Ranni with being a daughter to Marika but she does possess the same Gloam colored eye in the exact same pupil. I believe Ranni’s pupil color that she never opens is Golden and that’s basing it from Melina. In fact, the golden color from Melinas right eye only changes to white in the flame of frenzy ending, after the golden order is no more and grace is gone. Shortly after I had another big theory that began with Torrent, that’s right. Particularly about who the former master might be. “A delicate goldwork ring. Can be used as a finger whistle.” I scratched my head on that question for a bit and it lead me to two candidates. First one is Miquella. Second is Ranni. I’ll make some points that back up both of these contenders: Miquella: The spectral steed whistle is made of a delicate “goldwork”. I didn’t think much of it at first but after seeing the flame of frenzy ending, I’ve speculated that the material is Unalloyed Gold. This is backed by the fact that the whistle is still intact after the flame of frenzy is unleashed. We know that Miquella’s needle is made from the same material and has the properties to ward away the effects of the flame of frenzy and rot, which both originate from outer gods. Ranni: This one is less likely but upon inspecting Ranni’s discarded Empyrean flesh, you can see that she had red hair and is missing a 🦶 much like how Radahn is missing both feet. In fact, all of the red haired demigods are crippled in the same way and use some kind of crutch to help them get around(Malenia with her prosthetic feet and Radahn with his gravitational powers). It might have something to do with the Curse of the Fire Giant….hmmm….but I digress, I speculated what Leonard is to Radahn, Torrent was to Ranni before she became a doll. Shortly after, I started to my formulate my craziest theory in the game and the more I played with it, the more everything began to tie in a bow. Ranni WAS Miquella. I’ll try to explain with my biggest points: 1.I believe that the Amber Egg Radagon gave to Rennala contains the Great Rune of Miquella. I also believe that Rennala is trying to rebirth Miquella using the rune. Juvenile Scholar Cap Reads: Yet their rebirth is not without imperfections, and thus do they repeat the process, eventually becoming utterly dependent upon it. I speculate that the “imperfections” are happening because of Miquella’s curse(eternal childhood) and until it’s perfected, Ranni(Miquella) will continue to inhabit the doll. Backing up my previous theory, this would also explain why they all have gold/dusk eyes. 2.Another supporting evidence is by looking at the rune of the unborn, then looking at Malenia’s. In order for it to make sense I have to mention another of my biggest theories and that is Marika and Radagon were born twins, had their children before becoming one, and most of their children are born twins as well. This is backed up by the fact that every Great Rune in the game bears a striking resemblance to their twin counterpart. Malenia & Miquella(confirmed twins) Margitt & Mohg(confirmed twins) Rykard & Radahn The only one I can’t tie this to is Godrick but it is said he has distant relations and not a direct offspring. That country bumpkin. 3.Another key is Ranni’s discarded empyrean flesh. Obviously, it’s charred so it’s impossible to tell but I’d wager it looks like Malenia’s. The corpse has Malenia’s red hair and her stature, and she was crippled as well. Speaking of Malenia, this would be a good explanation as to why she went to Caelid to challenge Radahn and be desperate enough to nuke the place with her scarlet rot. She was serving Miquella(Ranni). 4.There are item descriptions that reveal that Miquella used to be a golden order fundamentalist, but I believe he/she switched sides after her and all of her sibling demigods were born with curses and were expected to follow the Greater Will, but I think the breaking point was when Marika(the mother) fell and was betrayed by Maliketh(This would also explain how she and Iji know about the true nature of Blaidd) after possibly wanting to free her children. Miquella might’ve been chosen as the next heir(which would explain why Mohg wanted to be his/her consort) but instead decided to create her own fate following Rennala’s teachings about the moon but in order for her to set herself and her siblings free, she would have to slay their two fingers(Finger Reader Crone, Liurnia) which I believe she did but before she could get to her own they retreated to the stars and are being protected by Radahn. 5.After becoming her consort, Ranni says that her age will not be of “gold” but the “stars”. Miquella is heavily tied to gold and the properties it possesess to ward away the influence of the outer gods especially once it’s unalloyed. This is backed up by using miquellas needle to rid ourselves of the flame of frenzy, Malenia prosthetics, and Torrents whistle. In fact, all of Ranni’s entourage can be seen wearing unalloyed gold. 6.Everyone speculated that Miquella has ties to and St. Trina’s gender is open to interpretation. In fact, the item description in the Sword of St. Trina states that he could’ve been a boy or girl. St. Trina is heavily tied to sleep and there is an instance in the game where Ranni enters a deep slumber at the same time as Rogier after he asks you to retrieve her curse mark and she murders the dude in his sleep for prying too much *shivers*. I believe she takes the form of St. Trina when she is dream phasing. Also, the juveniles in Rennala’s fight sing about sleep. 7.The Miquellean straight sword is modeled after the carian sword but it has amber(just like the egg) instead of Glinstone and the real Loretta can be found at the haligtree tying Caria to Miquella as well. In fact, I personally believe the Albinauric’s(all generations) are Miquellas(Ranni’s) subjects. This would explain why half of the haligtree Medalion is in the Albinauric village right under Ranni’s moon realm. Coincidence? 8.In Castle Sol, there is a ghost that talks about Miquella’s Eclipse, which is pretty symbolic to Ranni’s destiny(moon taking over the sun) 9.In her ending, before she brings about the age of the stars, the way she holds Marika’s(her true mother)head makes it seem like she’s making a vow to her to not be influenced by the outer gods anymore, but to prosper with true freedom and she chooses you to be her consort(Suck it Mohg) That’s my interpretation anyways. 10.Finally, Ranni do sound like a child and that she tiny I may have missed something but those are my strongest points. The only things that could disprove this is Miquella’s cocoon in Mohg’s palace but I believe that it’s nothing but a husk. In fact the game eludes to this. And Ranni has dialogue where she talks about being chosen as Empyreans and she says I, Miquella, and Malenia. Could be she’s being tricky with her words in order to protect her TRUE identity(which she’s done before) but who can say.
My theory is that Miquella interfered in Malenia / Radahn duel making them sleep in order to stop her sister to rot herself out or plaguing the entire Lands Between. That would explain why she sleep all the way from Caelid to the Haligtree and why the two would ever stop fighting without winning. And then maybe weakened by doing so Mogh was able to abduct him. Miquella is regarded the most intelligent/powerful of the demi-gods, i don't see how Mogh could simply grab him like that.
Yeah I don't know how effective Miquella was while he was asleep; I know he was acting as St. Trina in a capacity but it seems like they cut a lot from that storyline, so not sure if that'll be DLC later one.

That lore behind Malenia's swordsmanship mentor eluded me. Good finding there! If her mentor once defeated and sealed an ancient god, no wonder Malenia herself can become that formidable. I can already imagine the blind swordsman decided to teach Malenia because he didn't want Malenia to solely rely on the power of her scarlet rot. And I suppose may also explain why there's a lake of rot deep underground when we do Ranni's quest, far away from both Caelid and the Haligtree.
Regarding the Haligtree, it's interesting to note that despite how the albinaurics see Miquella's Haligtree as some sort of a promised land, we never encountered any on the haligtree itself. We only get to see the albinaurics on the consecrated snowfield as we make our way to the Haligtree.
Also, Loretta. She originally belonged to the Carian family, never dismount from her horse, favor archery to the point of creating her own series of sorceries. She went all the way to the Haligtree to find a safe place for the albinaurics, even to the point of becoming a guardian to the tree, while still keeping guard on the Carian manor with her phantom. All these points make me think that she's either an albinauric herself (one that has much greater specs than her brethren?), or at the very least a human who spent a long time living with the albinaurics (a la Tarzan, perhaps?).

Wow you hit the nail on the head with so many of these points! I'm working on a video for the Albinaurics and noticed that same exact thing about their lack of presence at the Haligtree. I think that upon seeing it wasn't some big promised land like so many of them dreamed, they gave up. The Haligree was supposed to be the new Erdtree and they wouldn't be seen as graceless under its rule, but that never happens. I can imagine them just feeling defeated by then. They have such a sad story.

What are your thoughts on the new info given about Miquella in the cut content? It's outright confirmed that he's St. Trina, and according to some of the datamines, not only is he a Demigod of Growth and Sleep/Dreams, he also has his own unique weapon made from his Great Rune and combined with Malenia's (like how combining the swords of the Twin Princes in DS3 created a new weapon).
I believe the datamine also mentioned that Miquella is attached to a 7th ending which follows a questline with Gideon Ofnir, which I'm super intrigued about, since Miquella and Ranni (and maybe Marika too) seem to be the only ones trying to rebel against the influence of Outer Gods.
I definitely think we will see Miquella DLC. With the St. Trina stuff, it could allow for some cool ways to explore a new world, maybe some kind of dream world even where Miquella is stuck? They may have taken that out of the game to refine and add to it. I can already see a "Miquella's Nightmare" site of grace 🤣

They really do have such a sad story. Clearly Miquella just wanted to change life for the better and was never able to see that to fruition, and so many had to suffer because of it.

Before getting to Haligtree I thought it would be a thriving place full of npcs lol I thought I was used to fromsoft's flavor of tragedy but seeing that place in such a state was a punch to the gut because you could *feel* the wasted potential everywhere, how they were so close to becoming a safe haven for the downtrodden, a last bastion of hope that got snuffed too soon 😕 and even then, Malenia and the knights never stopped believing in it

Having played the Souls for over the past 7 years, I have observed one primary element in the matters of story telling: they are all works in progress.
However, unlike the previous games, E.R.’s lore is perhaps the one that bears this element the most. If you look at the various NPC questlines, such as Patches and Tanith’s, you’ll learn that their none of them are fully completed yet. I have a feeling that the same could be said for both Miquella and Malenia. What if the future DLC allows you to interact with both characters? Miquella’s storyline seems to be all about healing Malenia’s so her being dead would just end his quest then and there. My theory is that you can interact with them both.
But if we are supposed to rouse Miquella back from his sleep and use whatever secrets he keeps to heal Malenia? Imagine the alternate ending we could get from this! Unless of course, Miyazaki plans to make Miquella’s story a depressing tragedy like everyone else’s.

In Dark Souls 1 we got a beefy DLC about Knight Artorias and his adventure to Abyss. In main game there were not many details about him but DLC gave us lots of juicy lore. I hope they do the same for Miquella as well. He is the only Demigod we haven't interacted directly.

Whats wild about that too is, Artorias DLC was never going to happen initially. Because DeS failed they were assuming the worst for Dark Souls, so Bloodborne development began immediately after DS release.
But then it became cult classic immediately, so BAMCO contacted em to make DLC and so Artorias DLC was born...

I enjoy the format of your storytelling, I do have questions of references as to when Miquella disappeared, as this speaks to motivation as to why Malenia would care about Radhan or risking challenging him unless, 1. Miquella deemed it necessary or 2. She was led to believe Radhan had taken him…🤔

Every demigod seems to be an avatar of some concept. Miquella is a child that will never flourish, a dream unfulfilled.

What always left me confused is how Miquella's hand is so large when we see him, did the slumber somehow alleviate his curse?
Gideon mentions that Miquella is trying to rebirth into a gawd. And muses on if someone should stop that.
It might be that the Formless Mother artificially aged him. That meddling could also he why he doesnt just look old but withered.
Miquella seems huge in his husk at the Haligtree, too; definitely didn't seem like he was the same size he appeared in those statues! 🤣
He goes into the tree with the body as a child.
As he grows so does the haligtree.
He gets robbed after growing for some time. You see him in a cocoon. You see cocoons all around the haligtree.
Cocoons often signify transformation.
Maybe he was in the middle of his when he was stolen. Hence he looks larger but stuck in limbo

I think that Mogh and the Formless Mother were called to Miquella and Melania's cursed blood when Miquella watered the Haligtree with his blood!
Also, interesting that Gowry, servant of the Goddess of Rot, cannot die; he returns again and again as one of the pests (the Kindred of Rot). When you first kill Gowry, his dialogue ("always more pests") suggests that he may actually possess the pests. The only other character that can possess bodies seems to be Shabriri, an agent of another Outer God; is Gowry also an envoy of a similar kind? Or is Gowry an experiment of Miquella's, a rot spirit able to be renewed in a new corrupted body? Is Gowry actually a tricksome Shabriri in another form?
Have we seen evidence of the other flowering? There have been two, but there is no flower in Aeonia, was it carried all the way to the Haligtree, is that the one there? Where and why was the other flowering?
One thing that stuck out to me was how large Miquella's hand was. I know he's a Demigod, but the scale of how large his hand is in Mohg's proves there was physical growth in his chrysalis in the Haligtree, seeing how he was cursed with eternal youth.

I never knew that the scarlet flower after defeating Malenia was Malenia herself just being asleep😮I really really hope that for the DLC we can get a new dialogue/cutscene with Malenia in which we can reunite her with Miquella (would only work if we played the DLC before defeating Malenia). I would also hope to have a new ending but I think I heard that Miyazaki already said that the DLC won't open up a new ending for the main game

In alchemy, which heavily inspired the game, a seed, and an apple are the same being. But where the outer fruit of the apple rots and decays, it provides nourishment to the seed within.

(although interestingly while we do find misbegotten inside and albinaurics on their way there, there's no Omen at or around the Haligtree.)

Oh I like that, maybe Mogh saw that as an alluring thing about him! And yeah I noticed that about the Omen being absent there; I'm not sure how freely they would have been able to travel or would they have been accepted? I think they deserve a better ending too, one of the many persecuted groups that deserve better.

I'm sure most of you are familiar with the cut content that was "dream brew" by now. I wonder how that would have interacted with Miquella. Maybe they'll add it back in with a patch or just tie it into the dlc somehow. I feel like it's gonna come back somehow at any rate.
Yes!! I totally think we're going to get dream DLC with Miquella. Maybe killing him in the dreamworld he's stuck in? The story should be great whatever they do with it.
Millicent's quest was one of my favorites and yet it also ended up being very disappointing because it doesn't affect anything with the twins. Millicent says she wanted to return to Malenia her "dignity, the sense of self, that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlet rot", but that never happens. If you kill Mohg, and thus have more or less "rescued" Miquella, and also have the Unalloyed Gold Needle to relieve the effects of scarlet rot, theoretically Malenia should have no need to fight you (you've solved both her problems), but no such option exists. If they still wanted the fight to happen there could've at least been new dialogue, something like "You've done so much, yet I need your Great Runes to replace Marika/become Elden Lord."
Well, you can give it to her after the fight thus getting Miquella's needle. it is odd its only tied to frenzy ending so far.
I think itd be cool to see Malenia again if there is a Miquella DLC, one that acknowledges her getting the needle.

Im currently looking into the ancestral spirit worshipers and the crucible. I really think the two are closely related. There's clear evidence in their loot pools but theres more to it I think.

Malenia being an extension of Miquella, when Miquella is known for powers of bewitching and control might not be good
Yeah... I hope that he's not controlling her in any way, because he seems to genuinely love her. I interpreted the bewitching branch like he's not physically strong, so he found another way to overcome foes by forced adoration?

I have this theory that ties Ranni to Miquella and it’s brought much of the story together.
It starts with the The Beast Eye.
“Claw-marked stone eye received from Gurranq, Beast Clergyman.
It is said to tremble when near Deathroot.
The murky violet iris writhes as if alive. "I am not sated... Feed me more...Death..."
I personally believe that the Item description is the key to tying it to the Dusk/Gloam eyed queen aka Marika the eternal.
The short version is that judging from Iji and Ranni’s dialogue, we know that when each Empyrean are chosen by their two fingers, they are given a shadow that will betray them if they should ever go against the Greater Will. When Marika began to plot against the Greater Will, I believe Maliketh used Marika’s own Great Rune, Destined Death, against her and took the eye after impaling her with the crimson spear you see in the final arena. It would explain why her corpse is missing her left eye, why the eye has a claw mark, and is surrounded by Marika’s stony flesh.
This eye could very well have been passed down to some of her children as well.
Melina- she reveals to have the same eye, on the same side of her face, in the lord of frenzy ending.
Malenia - obviously this is pure speculation but I think the rot that covers her eyes was an intentional creative decision to hide this very secret.
Miquella - maybe we’ll find out in the DLC
Ranni - It’s hard to tie Ranni with being a daughter to Marika but she does possess the same Gloam colored eye in the exact same pupil. I believe Ranni’s pupil color that she never opens is Golden and that’s basing it from Melina. In fact, the golden color from Melinas right eye only changes to white in the flame of frenzy ending, after the golden order is no more and grace is gone.
Shortly after I had another big theory that began with Torrent, that’s right. Particularly about who the former master might be.
“A delicate goldwork ring. Can be used as a finger whistle.”
I scratched my head on that question for a bit and it lead me to two candidates. First one is Miquella. Second is Ranni.
I’ll make some points that back up both of these contenders:
Miquella:
The spectral steed whistle is made of a delicate “goldwork”. I didn’t think much of it at first but after seeing the flame of frenzy ending, I’ve speculated that the material is Unalloyed Gold. This is backed by the fact that the whistle is still intact after the flame of frenzy is unleashed. We know that Miquella’s needle is made from the same material and has the properties to ward away the effects of the flame of frenzy and rot, which both originate from outer gods.
Ranni:
This one is less likely but upon inspecting Ranni’s discarded Empyrean flesh, you can see that she had red hair and is missing a 🦶 much like how Radahn is missing both feet. In fact, all of the red haired demigods are crippled in the same way and use some kind of crutch to help them get around(Malenia with her prosthetic feet and Radahn with his gravitational powers). It might have something to do with the Curse of the Fire Giant….hmmm….but I digress, I speculated what Leonard is to Radahn, Torrent was to Ranni before she became a doll.
Shortly after, I started to my formulate my craziest theory in the game and the more I played with it, the more everything began to tie in a bow.
Ranni WAS Miquella.
I’ll try to explain with my biggest points:
1.I believe that the Amber Egg Radagon gave to Rennala contains the Great Rune of Miquella. I also believe that Rennala is trying to rebirth Miquella using the rune.
Juvenile Scholar Cap Reads:
Yet their rebirth is not without imperfections, and thus do they repeat the process, eventually becoming utterly dependent upon it.
I speculate that the “imperfections” are happening because of Miquella’s curse(eternal childhood) and until it’s perfected, Ranni(Miquella) will continue to inhabit the doll. Backing up my previous theory, this would also explain why they all have gold/dusk eyes.
2.Another supporting evidence is by looking at the rune of the unborn, then looking at Malenia’s. In order for it to make sense I have to mention another of my biggest theories and that is Marika and Radagon were born twins, had their children before becoming one, and most of their children are born twins as well. This is backed up by the fact that every Great Rune in the game bears a striking resemblance to their twin counterpart.
Malenia & Miquella(confirmed twins)
Margitt & Mohg(confirmed twins)
Rykard & Radahn
The only one I can’t tie this to is Godrick but it is said he has distant relations and not a direct offspring. That country bumpkin.
3.Another key is Ranni’s discarded empyrean flesh. Obviously, it’s charred so it’s impossible to tell but I’d wager it looks like Malenia’s. The corpse has Malenia’s red hair and her stature, and she was crippled as well. Speaking of Malenia, this would be a good explanation as to why she went to Caelid to challenge Radahn and be desperate enough to nuke the place with her scarlet rot. She was serving Miquella(Ranni).
4.There are item descriptions that reveal that Miquella used to be a golden order fundamentalist, but I believe he/she switched sides after her and all of her sibling demigods were born with curses and were expected to follow the Greater Will, but I think the breaking point was when Marika(the mother) fell and was betrayed by Maliketh(This would also explain how she and Iji know about the true nature of Blaidd) after possibly wanting to free her children. Miquella might’ve been chosen as the next heir(which would explain why Mohg wanted to be his/her consort) but instead decided to create her own fate following Rennala’s teachings about the moon but in order for her to set herself and her siblings free, she would have to slay their two fingers(Finger Reader Crone, Liurnia) which I believe she did but before she could get to her own they retreated to the stars and are being protected by Radahn.
5.After becoming her consort, Ranni says that her age will not be of “gold” but the “stars”. Miquella is heavily tied to gold and the properties it possesess to ward away the influence of the outer gods especially once it’s unalloyed. This is backed up by using miquellas needle to rid ourselves of the flame of frenzy, Malenia prosthetics, and Torrents whistle. In fact, all of Ranni’s entourage can be seen wearing unalloyed gold.
6.Everyone speculated that Miquella has ties to and St. Trina’s gender is open to interpretation. In fact, the item description in the Sword of St. Trina states that he could’ve been a boy or girl. St. Trina is heavily tied to sleep and there is an instance in the game where Ranni enters a deep slumber at the same time as Rogier after he asks you to retrieve her curse mark and she murders the dude in his sleep for prying too much *shivers*. I believe she takes the form of St. Trina when she is dream phasing. Also, the juveniles in Rennala’s fight sing about sleep.
7.The Miquellean straight sword is modeled after the carian sword but it has amber(just like the egg) instead of Glinstone and the real Loretta can be found at the haligtree tying Caria to Miquella as well. In fact, I personally believe the Albinauric’s(all generations) are Miquellas(Ranni’s) subjects. This would explain why half of the haligtree Medalion is in the Albinauric village right under Ranni’s moon realm. Coincidence?
8.In Castle Sol, there is a ghost that talks about Miquella’s Eclipse, which is pretty symbolic to Ranni’s destiny(moon taking over the sun)
9.In her ending, before she brings about the age of the stars, the way she holds Marika’s(her true mother)head makes it seem like she’s making a vow to her to not be influenced by the outer gods anymore, but to prosper with true freedom and she chooses you to be her consort(Suck it Mohg) That’s my interpretation anyways.
10.Finally, Ranni do sound like a child and that she tiny
I may have missed something but those are my strongest points.
The only things that could disprove this is Miquella’s cocoon in Mohg’s palace but I believe that it’s nothing but a husk. In fact the game eludes to this. And Ranni has dialogue where she talks about being chosen as Empyreans and she says I, Miquella, and Malenia. Could be she’s being tricky with her words in order to protect her TRUE identity(which she’s done before) but who can say.

My theory is that Miquella interfered in Malenia / Radahn duel making them sleep in order to stop her sister to rot herself out or plaguing the entire Lands Between. That would explain why she sleep all the way from Caelid to the Haligtree and why the two would ever stop fighting without winning. And then maybe weakened by doing so Mogh was able to abduct him. Miquella is regarded the most intelligent/powerful of the demi-gods, i don't see how Mogh could simply grab him like that.
Yeah I don't know how effective Miquella was while he was asleep; I know he was acting as St. Trina in a capacity but it seems like they cut a lot from that storyline, so not sure if that'll be DLC later one.
