-Willie Nelson said that no matter who sang the song before, when Patsy Cline sang a song it became her song. None better than her in my opinion.
Willie should be an authority on that matter. She made his "Crazy" the classic it is today. She just had "that" voice. Purity.
One of the GREATEST female vocalist ever
The background singers are the Jordanaires. They backed up many country singers. They are most famous for backing Elvis Preslely.
Yep!
Patsy Cline passed away in an aircraft accident in 1963. She is truly a legend and yes i will miss her forever!
the reason the older music sounds so good is that back then you actually had to have a talented singing voice, today you dont need that cause they can use machines to "fix" it though it still sounds like garbage. I said it for Decades Todays music has lost its Heart and Soul, because todays Music is all about money, Yesteryears Music was about Quality and heart
Well said...
yes your so right
"Leaving On Your Mind", "She's Got You", "Why Can't He Be You", "Sweet Dreams"....❤❤❤
All great choices!
Sweet Dreams is one of my favourite songs of all time. ❤️
Yes thank you Richard! It’s amazing how many people forget “Why Can’t he be You.” If they think they are blown away now wait till they hear that. Hopefully they will. It’s also a great written song with a beautiful melody and fits her so perfectly.
Leaving On Your Mind is my faV
She had such control of her wonderful voice. A vocal gymnist.
The uncrowned queen of country. She died way to soon. Her voice is amazing
I have loved her voice all my life. I am 70 yrs old.
Patsy was a very talented singer in a time dominated by male artists. She helped pave the way for future female singers. She helped a young Loretta Lynn find her way as a new artist. The world lost an irreplaceable talent when Patsy died.
Y’all will see some of Patsy’s struggles in Coal Miner’s Daughter. Patsy helped a very young, naive Loretta find her spunk and “fighting side”.
Yes, they would love that movie.
I strongly believe that Beverly DeAngelo plays her better than the Jessica Lange in the film “Sweet Dreams.”
@@craigdixon4113 I agree! Beverly had more spunk!
@@debbiealvey3537 dont forget sissy spaceck no one could have played that role better
Glad you are doing more Patsy Cline. This is one of the best country voices around. Patsy had so many great hits such as "Crazy", "She's Got You", "When I Get Through With You", "Sweet Dreams", "So Wrong", "Leavin' on Your Mind", "Walkin' After Midnight", "I Fall To Pieces" "San Antonio Rose", "Blue Moon Of Kentucky", "Half As Much", "He Called Me Baby", "Faded Love", "Imagine That". She was only 31 when she died in a plane crash in 1963. In 1985 Jessica Lange starred in the movie about Patsy's life called "Sweet Dreams".
Faded Love is my favorite....so much emotion in her voice !
I disagree.one of the best voices, ever.
Try her, Back in baby's arms, Sweet dreams, Walking after midnight, and so much more!!!!
She had one of the most iconic voices ever. My favorite song by her is Faded Love...it just kills me every time I hear it.
True Love is also beautiful,
Stop it !
How about "Leavin on Your Mind"?
@@metrogoldwyn another great one. Imagine That is also one of my favorites.
Patsy and Karen Carpenter to me has the most beautiful voices ever!!! Great song. Sadly their both gone but so so many great memories of their awesome performances
Could not agree more
agreed, and both were THEE ultimate masters of SINGING TO THE LISTENER AND NOT AT THEM as they used their vocals, phrasing, interpretations, inflections to tell the story of every song they ever sang....both were once in 2 lifetimes vocalists, not just great incredible singers..
Both had that haunting quality.
I concur. Linda Ronstadt isn't far behind. I was blessed to grow up with their music.
Agreed. The 2 best voices ever. Nobody today even with autotune can compare.
Welcome the world of Patsy.
Simply the greatest female voice EVER. Period. Don't even try to debate it. Only one even close is Karen Carpenter.
She was one of the best singers ever! She recorded “Sweet Dreams” just before she died in the plane crash, and it came out after her death and is one of her best songs ever! You guys will love it. Very haunting and amazing.❤️🎶
Yes! It is one of her best. Love Patsy!
100% Bruce!
my fav is If You've Got Leaving ON Your Mind
Patsy was one of a kind. Patsy had such a spectacular voice and presence. We lost her way too soon. The world mourned when she passed . She was a beautiful woman with a stunning voice. You can just feel it deep down when listening to the words she' sings. She's still loved by so many. She was iconic country.
She was one of country music's greatest singers and treasures. She was a gold mine all by herself. And she was taken from us way too soon. Everything she sang, she made into a hit. She just had one of those voices that come around once in a lifetime. Thank goodness we can still hear her songs today. Leaving her legacy of great music and songs intact. For generations yet to come and enjoy. Awesome!
Isn't that the most beautiful voice? She's the only one who can sing this song. My favorite!
Sweet Dreams and Walking After Midnight are two more great Patsy Cline songs.
The backing vocalists were the Jordanaires, who were huge backup singers in Nashville at the time. They did a lot of backup work for Elvis.
Faded Love and Crazy, both written by the great Willie Nelson, will bring you to your knees.
People actually used their REAL voice and had true talent. They stood at the mic with no background dancers. They really had to hold the show totally.🥰
I totally agree with you
But Adele IMO can Sang Also
Just saying
@@cjturner2008 I totally agree with you. She's definitely a diamond. I LOVE her. Happy holidays and stay safe ❤ 🥰🙏🕊
Patsy Cline was ahead of her time, singing with so much emotion & pain in her songs, she was taken too soon, but her songs are her legacy . Rest in Peace Patsy Cline
Patsy just soaks you with her voice.
Have you listened to her sing "Crazy" image no autotune, no synthesizers no help in any way this was pure singing
They did react to that already
An often overlooked fact is that Patsy was one of the very first female acts, in which she had male backup singers. That alone is a testament to the talent she possessed. Virtually UNHEARD OF, back then...
Also, she does a version of "Just a Closer Walk With Thee", that is REMARKABLE...
So very sad that we lost this beautiful voice when she was killed at 30 years old. When I think of all the beautiful songs she never got to sing. She’s now singing for God!
They made a movie about Patsy's life. Jessica Lange starred as her.
The movie was Sweet Dreams, named after another "blow you away with greatness" song of hers. They just reacted to it (the song) a couple of days ago and yep, they were blown away.
She was the best there was and the best there is and the best there ever will be
AMEN!!
Her concert tribute sells out and gets extended every time it comes to st Louis..I go see it every time. She is my far the best country female singer..she died so young..
Back then singers had to have natural great voices , the music and singers from the late 50's to the mid 70's was the greatest. Patsy was the greatest.
They had more talent back then. But also- The recording technology of the era was based on analog, not digital equipment. Pre-transistor "Vacuum Tube" electronics, etc... It produced a very warm, soothing, organic sound.
Gotta react to "CRAZY" and "WALKIN' AFTER MIDNIGHT".
"I Fall To Pieces" was released in 1961 and went to number one on the country charts and peaked at number twelve on the pop charts. Patsy was the one of the first female country singers to cross over and chart on the pop charts. The movie "Sweet Dreams" starring Jessica Lange as Patsy Cline was released in 1985.
Patsy will be my LOVE for ever. She's the love of my life...
Next should be “Sweet Dreams”! Love you guys❤️❤️🔥
I don't think it is a coincidence that you play Loretta and Patsy together. They were best friends.
Loved the reaction. You should try her song Sweet Dreams.
Haunting! Her voice has always sounded haunting in the best way!
This needs to be called Shawn and Mel's Music Appreciation Class!!! 😂
The Pioneers of Women of Country:
Patsy Cline
Loretta Lynn
Tammy Wynette
Dolly Parton
… All are a must discover.
You forgot Mother Maybelle and the Carters
Great ladies all of them complete natural talent
Love Patsy cline! Please do her songs "Sweet Dreams" and "Faded Love" I think faded love was the last song she recorded. Her life story is a movie called Sweet Dreams after her hit song. It stars the great Jessica Lange as Patsy and she was nominated for best actress at the Oscars for it. The movie was nominated for best picture, the woman who played her mother was nominated for best supporting actress, and the man who played her husband was up for best supporting actor.
Ed Harris played her husband ,Charlie Dick
Someone else who has a unique voice is Tanya Tucker. I love her "What's Your Mama's Name", "Delta Dawn", "Would You Lay With Me", "Let Me Be There", "Two Sparrows in a Hurricane".
She was my Dad's favorite singer.
Patsy was gone way too soon. Try 'Crazy"
Loved her since I was a kid. Listen to her song Sweet Dream of You.
I think some of the old recordings sound better because it was more simple. A good studio, a couple of mikes, and reel to reel analog tape go a long way.
Your right… Nothing can beat Real talent!!! I don’t know how ppl can listen to modern music over the old stuff…
I've heard very few voices that can so easily portray emotion and make you feel it too like Patsy Cline. Amazing classic artist. My late Momma really liked her and I remember hearing her all my life. About ten years ago I got her a little boombox for Christmas and a Patsy Cline's greatest hits CD. She really enjoyed hearing all those favorites all over again. Yes, I miss my Momma a lot - especially at this time of year. Hearing songs like this just make it more so.
💕
Patsy's husband came into the studio control room as Patsy was recording this song, Owen Bradley asked him if they had a fight because of the cry in her voice, he said no, Owen told him to leave to not ruin the recording session!! It was and Is always Patsy's song, I remember at 4 years old hearing this on the car radio, the walk of the piano and bass were catchy even for little 4 year old me!! it is May of 24 and I still Love this song from 1960!!!
i am also fan of Patsy Cline and I love to watch your videos especially the ones of Patsy's work. I have to say, Shawn, that you never stop smiling when you are listening to Patsy. So nice to see younger people learning about Patsy's work.
Hey Yall!! Patsy is amazing!! I love this one and "She's got You" The Jordanairs are backing vocals
Nobody can sing like her, for sure. Someone with a similar tone of singing, who started around the same time, is Connie Francis. She's done ballad songs and even some rock n roll sometimes, such as the hit Stupid Cupid.
What do u think of Leanne rides? I personally love her!!
@@mackenziebiegler848 I love her hit, Blue, but I haven't heard much else from her.
Mel and Shawn understand how beautiful Patsy Cline's singing was.
If you want a real treat, listen to “sweet dreams”. Patsy killed it with that track. It really highlights her vocal abilities in my opinion. But then again, everything she did was 🔥
You need to hear the singer that inspired Patsy Cline. Her name was Kitty Well and the song to try is How Far Is Heaven. (Get the tissue paper ready for this one).
I got many many (probably far too many 😂) pitchers of beer singing this song at karaoke back in the day. This and "Crazy" of course. 😊💜💚💛✌️
Loved your reaction. I love that you appreciate her vocals and the backup and musicians. I agree, you can’t get a more perfect song!
I like her song Walking After Midnight if you haven’t done that one yet.
Goosebumps every time, EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Hey Guys. I am glad you are doing Patsy. Trust me you will not be disappointed. Listen to "Crazy' and Sweet Dreams. Old country at its best.
Another artist that had a unique voice if u here her song u will know its Pasty Cline no one has a voice like her til this day can't be duplicated .
I love you both and Patsy Cline. LOL
I think only people who have truly been in love understand this song completely, I love your reaction to the song. Her voice is beautiful and there wasn’t a computer to help her, isn’t that amazing?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Nobody can break your heart like patsy.
Patsy Cline was the best female singer of all time!!
My favourite Patsy Cline song is crazy❤️❤️love it❤️
Check out her singing "Always". It's heaven
Oh, Patsy. Such a voice. Try "Walking After Midnight." Fantastic song.
Her songs give me chills all over..Such a beautiful voice
I grew up with this voice filling our whole house. Even though a kid I would stop dead in my tracks in awe.
Crazy and Walking after Midnight are big hits and pure GOLD! Hope you react to those as well. I’m an old school NY CBGBs punk rocker and I hold a special place in my heart for what I consider punk rockers from other genres - in attitude, delivery, and passion. Wanda Jackson, June Carter, Nina Simone, and Patsy Cline to name a few.
Wanda Jackson" Right or wrong" oh my stars she was good
So I guess you like Blondie as well...
@@rebeccasimantov5476 Debbie and Patti Smith reign supreme for me!
"Faded Love" with an unadulterated sigh !
Faded love is one of my favorites from Patsy.
yessssss you both just fell in to another rabbit hole with miss patsy cline need to listen to sweet dreams of you and crazy
You 2 kids are good. No. GREAT. Something that has never happened to me before is I actually look forward to seeing what you come up with next. You both are beautiful. You are a blessed man Shawn to have a good spirited and beautiful wife like Mel. May God Bless you always.
Yaaasssss!!! More Patsy please. She's unforgettable. One minute she gets you with the tear in her voice, the next with her growls. Her life story titled "Sweet Dreams" is available on UA-cam at ua-cam.com/video/8ZdxbmRumUM/v-deo.html RIP.
When I was young, i used to haunt a Blues club in Chicago called the "Checkerboard Lounge," A musician there told me that "gifted" singers like Billie "Lady Day" Holiday, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, and Janis Joplin sang, "they had a CRY in their voice. You can hear a piece of their soul when they sing." "What B.B. King did with 'Lucille' (King's guitar), they did with their voices." Sadly, they all died TOO early, and tragically. When they sang, it was a rare gift.
I love watching you girls react to Patsy. Shawn was in love from the first note. Mel, I can almost feel the tingles you get.
I remember learning to play this on the piano. My piano teacher loved it, and I was so proud!! She would ask me to play it just so she could listen.
Omg I love all her music, you two bring back alot of memories for to this 73 year old brain❤️❤️❤️
My dad had a crush on her back in the "olden days." I was just a kid but i could tell.. he couldn't fool me..
My mom introduced me to Patsy’s music as a kid in the 70’s. Became a fan instantly.
An original voice often imitate d never surprised. A divine heart felted feeling that so many have associated with .
It is so good to see how much you appreciate Patsy and Loretta.
She was one that had a voice that could make you feel the song.I cried all day when she got killed.
The Patsy "rabbit hole" is very deep. Enjoy exploring it.
Patsy Cline began her career as a pure country singer, floating around between "independent" record labels - and then Decca Records offered her a contract. They recognized in Patsy, a genuine Superstar just waiting to blossom. By adding the Jordanaires and that gently rolling piano, her career exploded, going far beyond just country. It was a style of music pioneered by Owen Bradley and Chet Atkins that they referred to as "Countrypolitan". The Jordanaires incidentally, also backed Elvis Presley during his initial rocketing to fame, during the later 50's. I vividly recall the dreadful news that Patsy had been killed in an airplane accident. It was devastating. I'll always her songs, but especially "Crazy" written by Willie Nelson and "Sweet Dreams" written by Don Gibson. R I P
I've watched a few video's of people's reactions and you two are my absolute favorites 💓. Patsy Klein was one of a kind. So happy you are loving her music 🎶
My husband's all time favorite singer!! She is awesome!!
A beautiful voice that ended too soon. Rest in peace Patsy.
She was one of the first in rock and roll heaven( check out song by righteous brothers).her song was ironically prophetic and we lost a beautiful woman and voice 😢.
By the way, Leeann Rhimes was named the next Patsy when she first started. She does a tribute to Patsy on one year of The CMA awards, and it is goosebump and bonechilling! She’s Patsy reincarnated ❤️❤️
LeeAnn is a fabulous singer but imo isn't even close to Patsy Cline. Patsy Cline is on a level all by herself.
@@scottbeach5234 right! No one is even close to patsy
Leeann Rhimes has a great voice, but she's no Patsy Cline.
Please respond to "Sweet Dreams". It is Patsy at her best. Well, actually, anything by Patsy was awesome.
I've only just discovered your channel and it makes me so happy watching your reactions to the music of my childhood and songs that are still on my playlists to this day - I'm now 51. I remember Patsy, George, Hank, Loretta, Freddy and many more playing on the record player. These country songs you are now discovering hold many special memories with family and friends.
We lost Patsy Cline when they had a plane crash her and her crew all died she was fantastic all of her music is great keep listening for more Patsy Cline
One of my favorite Patsy Cline songs is "Walking After Midnight" beautiful and sad voice she had. Such a talented woman.
She was one of my favorites! 😊 All her Greatest Hits were good! Try her "STRANGE" one.
I grew up listening to her (country in general) and rock n roll. Thanks you guys. Who wouldn't like her singing huh? You make me cry by how u guys got into it and saying you like Country now. 🙏
Lesson-enhancement can't beat the pure essence of real, authentic, god given talent. Take note.
