Patsy Cline died in 1963 in a plane crash. One of the best voices of all time.
I remember that day, I was 6 years and my dad was upset
I was 10 and she , IMHO, is the best female voice all time
Rodger Miller climbed a forest service watch tower and found the wreck.
Loretta Lynn’s twins one was named Patsy after Patsy Cline.
and Harlan Howard died 39 years later, almost to the day. Patsy was born on Harlan's fifth birthday.
No autotune, no digital tricks, just pure talent
Can we retire this particular comment?
No@@Yowza78
@@Yowza78 please! They didn't have autotune, so they sat in the studio doing hundreds of takes over the course of days just to get one vocal line right. These songs are overdubbed like hell. That was their autotune.
OP's name checks out.
@@groovelife415 This particular song they used the 4th take and did no more takes. Prior to that they were experimenting with various tempos, so an overdub of her vocals would not have been easily transferred.
Patsy died 60 years ago and to this day she is the quintessential female country voice. No one has come close.
Ahem, excuse me. Where does dolly fit in🤔and tammy w🤷
@@Brandi6666 Dolly and Tammy are wonderful but Patsy...she will never be topped.
Amen!
Also an astute business mind.
I love her and do think Linda Rondstat is unbeatable.
My gran said she didn't have therapy, she had Patsy Cline.
Amen! ❤
Patsy sure is better then most therapies I have gone through!
Patsy had a natural cry in her voice that no other female singer could ever match or reproduce.
Oh Karen Carpenter cries in her beautiful songs ....
tammy wynette was similar - song such as D-I-V-O-R-C-E.
Connie Francis had that quality in her voice as well.
@@waynehackney5812 if u want a pro to tell u what it is in her voice go to a channel with a pro and see what they have to say. Wish I could remember witch ones did this but I have seen more then one say what it is. From opera singer to a # of vocal teachers I havbe seen this.
The only singer even close to replicating Patsy's sound is LeAnn Rimes.
From the first note Patsy Cline grabs the listener and just makes them listen. There is no denying such a talent, no dubs, no tricks, just one voice going straight into a microphone and into the listeners ears. ✌️
Wow.. you nailed exactly what I was thinking and trying to put into thought. That first word and you're almost in a trance. Amazing.
She's like nails on a chalk board. I could never understand her appeal.
Not to mention a LOT of echo effect
You got that right, most so called singers can't sing without tech bullshit, Patsy killed it without any help, and to this very day, no one can compete with her, Bravo Patsy, love you!!!
Karen Carpenter and Patsy Cline, two of the greatest female voices.
Karen, Patsy, Eva Cassidy...they don't stay long enough, do they...
@@stevetournay6103 , and all three absolutely drip emotion...they make you FEEL it.
damn right
Don’t forget kd lang, Katherine Dawn Lang, especially her tribute to Roy Orbison…CRYING.
@@nancywilson8750goodness yes! KD Lang killed me when she sang that and I was loving her voice before that!
You can hear the pianist and upright bass walking in the background, then comes the soft electric guitar and the vibraphone as the musicians nailed it as Patsy Cline delivered the best vocals. This is real Country Music!!
You are not a loner when it comes to Doris Day, Jay. She has an exquisite voice and so much charm.
You should react to a Bushel and a Peck... a favorite among the greatest generation sect, including my mother. Great fun song!
HEAR, HEAR!!! ..and, she was such a GREAT movie star and animal lover!! LOVE DORIS DAY to THIS DAY!!
Pillow Talk or Calamity Jane for your movie channel please. ❤❤
Doris Day was a BIG STAR. Easily could have played the sexy dumb blonde. But she was always classy.
You cannot go wrong with Doris Day. Two of my favorite songs are Secret Love and It's Magic. Give them a listen!
There was no voice like hers. Great choice Mama!
Her voice is straight from the heart. Gorgeous x
I'm a classic rock guy but I have always thought that Patsy had the most beautiful singing voice a woman has ever had. Thank you guys for sharing.
Now you MUST listen to the song BLUE sung by Leann Rimes. BLUE was written for Patsy Cline, but she died in a plane crash before she could record it. The song was shelved because NO ONE had the voice for that song like Patsy did. MANY years later the songwriter hear Leann Rimes singing the National Anthem and sent the song to her to sing. It was Leann's first #1 Song at the age of 14, I believe!
From not liking slow songs to eyes shut and swaying. He has come so far.
It’s been a fun ride with these two! Love watching their reactions and knowing that all of this great music still lives on
Swaying all the way to the bank..yup😊
Jessica Lange played Patsy Cline in Sweet Dreams Great movie!
A wonderful movie!
Very well-acted but Lange was completely the wrong physical type to play Patsy. Lange, tall and thin, Patsy was shorter and much more curves. Beverly D’Angelo was much more suited to the role, but Megan Hilty in Patsy and Loretta actually looked a lot like her and did her own vocals, I believe.
Would be a great movie reaction
Patsy's mom didn't care for it but at least there is Patsy's vocals that's enough.
ua-cam.com/users/clipUgkxDU_zE0oeYO3n6VDg1ufe4SHCwzAvMCjn?si=_gLq4RDhJRenINcD
That’s a great movie
It still blows me away the Willie Nelson wrote "Crazy" for Patsy Cline and still collects royalties on the song.
He does NOT collect any royalties on Carazy he sold it outright
And she was reluctant to record it since it wasn't "country."
I'll tell you something, I am 73 years old and I grew up loving the Motown sound, Beachboys, the British Invasion, groups like that and I bought the records of them all..but I didn't't particularly care for countr songs. But when I heard Patsy Cline she was so different and I was hooked! She was so special and set apart from the others! I was only 13 years old when I found out that she died in that plane crash. I mourned for her just as the rest of the country mourned. What a heartbreaking lost and at only 30 years of age! 7:22 There will never be another Patsy Cline ever again!
Patsy's voice eclipsed all genres, unlike Loretta Lynn who took up Patsy's Queen of country mantle, LL squared mainly in the CW lane. But Patsy's sultry ballads were loved by all showing that Country could cross and blur the lines. I am more a RR, but Patsy, Dolly, are 2 of my favorite's. LL a little too country twangie for me. Lol
thats because she had soul !
The tremolo in her voice just melts you as well as her tonal quality! Yeah Patsy❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
"Where do voices like these come from?". Question of the year. She was amazing.
"Where do voices like these come from?" From the style at the time. They didn't sing like today because it was the 60's and they don't sing like that today because it's not the 60's.
from God.
I think he said, where did voices like this go? Indeed.
My mom had a Patsy Cline voice, gave birth to me in '63. She was from western NC, north Georgia. You know, country-fried! I blame her for my twang and animated personality. However, every time I sing...🙂
Love y'all! Peace
The only woman who stopped people in their tracks and was taken from us. The only woman close is Linda Ronstadt. The cry, the vibrato. Beautiful.
Connie Francis.
Who DOESN'T love Patsy?? One of the most beautiful, unique voices out there.
When I think of Patsy I think of her wonderful friendship and mentoring of Loretta Lynn. Loretta Lynn just idolized her. To Loretta she was the pinnacle when it came to how she wanted to conduct her own career. They instantly hit it off and became such close friends. So tragic that we lost Patsy at such a young age, robbing the world of everything else she would have done, the beautiful music she would have given us.
Again, RIP, Patsy! Say hello to Loretta for us! 🧡🧡
And Loretta Lynn named one of her daughters "Patsy". 😊
@@angelabowman1614 Yes, the twins, Patsy and Peggy, born just after Patsy’s tragic death, I think. So sad that Loretta and Patsy were only able to be friends for such a short time!
Coal Miner's Daughter would be an excellent choice for your movie channel! Patsy and Loretta Lynn were very close friends. It's a Wonderful movie.❤
i agree, I have suggested Cold Miner's Daughter before. It is an excellent movie that highlights the relationship that Lorretta and Patsy had. Also, the movie has a great cast (Tommy Lee Jones, Sissy Spacek, Beverly DeAngelo)
Yes!
My dad had her greatest hits cassette in his truck and would always play it so I could sing along as a kid. I just texted him that people my age are discovering her and he's so happy. I love this video and y'all, too. 💖💖
Her voice was like velvet, smooth as chocolate, one you could listen to all evening with nothing discordant at all. At the end of the song you let out a sigh of appreciation, and wish the song was still playing, just to hear that voice. Beautiful.
One of the all time great female voices
back then the singers didn't try to immitate one another, just individuals reaching their pinnacle of performance
The Greatest Female Voice of All Time, power, grace, and intensity.
I was one year old when she died and she still has the best voice I’ve ever heard in my life. Listen to her every day.
Back in 1973, my dad had a 1953 Chevy pickup with an 8 track player that he had put in. He only had one tape, and that was Patsy Cline. I always remember being a kid riding with dad in that truck listening to Patsy's liquid gold voice.
The phrase "Golden Memories" comes to mind.
When I was growing up my mother had a very unique vase. I loved it. I asked her about it, and she would always say it's a Patsy Cline. I later experienced Patsy's music and fell in love. I asked my friend who the artist was, because she was always playing her in the background when we would get together once a month. She said; 'You have to be kidding me this is Patsy Cline the original, a one of a kind'. I suddenly stopped drinking my coffee and was in a stunned state. She said; "what is it"? I told her the story. She was almost in tears. My mother passed away about 6 months earlier, and she left me that vase as part of my inheritance. At that moment we felt her with us. Every time I hear a Patsy song I look at the vase, and my mother is with me. Thank you for the wonderful memories Jay and Amber. Happy "International Woman's Day" as well. My mom was an amazing person and Women. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
a patsy cline vase? i did google it but the best i could come up with was a vase with poppies on it. could u post a pic of this vase?
So she meant that the vase was "one of a kind." How beautiful. ❤ Something tells me your mom was too. 😉🥰
@@IvaLindsay it's in storage at my Twin sisters locker in Windsor Ontario. I will see if she can find it. When I moved she took red for it. I will see what we can do. Thank you for your comments. My mom was a one of a kind to thousands that she helped. RIP. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
@@IvaLindsay Sorry for the confusion Lindsay. The vase that my Aunt hand crafted was used as a metaphor. The vase is one of a kind just like my mother thought Patsy was one of a kind. My mother was also one of a kind. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
My mom left me all of her albums including 9 Patsy.
Her voice was so angelic, the lord needed her for his choir!
I love Patsy Cline's voice. She is and always will be a classic.
This is my favorite Patsy Cline song. She uses her full vocal range in this one
I love Patsy!!!! Her greatest hits album is the bomb!!!
Patsy, for me, has the best country voice ever. There are some great voices in that genre, but, Patsy had a special voice, what a talent!
I used to sing her at Karaoke. And I got compliments.... Love Patsy Cline.
It is so refreshing to hear younger people these days who appreciate the best music. Whether it’s 50’s, 60’s or 70’s rock or country. I love watching your reactions to these songs that a lot of us have also loved for years. It’s like seeing a light go on in your reactions. Great stuff, keep it up!
You need to watch the movie:
Coal Miners Daughter
The story of miss Loretta Lynn and also her friendship with Patsy Cline !!
Great movie!!
Beverly D'Angelo should have been nominated
I love this movie. The music. The actors & actress's we're Awesome!!!
Patsy Cline is from my hometown of Winchester Virginia and my mom went to school with her. Actually I remember exactly where I was the day she died in the plane crash. We were out in the barn milking the cows and my grandmother came out to tell us that she had died in the plane crash 😢 😢😢. Actually my families burial plots are in the same cemetery where she's buried 😢😢😢
Not sure if you have ever covered her but Etta James is another singer with an unique voice. Her song At Last is amazing!
"Sweet Dreams" and "She's Got You" are two of my favorites.
Me too!
Poor man’s roses.
If you want a contemporary voice like Patty Cline's, listen to K.D. Lang sing "Down to My Last Cigarette". She even had the same producer as Patsy Cline, just 30 years later.
You love who I love to listen to - Patsy Cline and Linda Ronstadt. A-maz-ing voices, both of them!
Pasty was the first artist to crossover genres. She was country and her music crossed over to pop. Try her song Sweet Dreams!
Voices like these come from heaven.
And, unfortunately, make the return trip too damn early...
As a man in my mid 60's I really just miss this old style country!
If you don’t know her, try K D Lang.
"Crazy" & "She's Got You" by Patsy are excellent, too. The movie about her life is very sad.
Part of the issue with today's "artists" is that they don't want to put the hard work in that so many of the older artists from times past put in. They made singing an art and practiced and worked to make themselves the very best they could vs. being able to rely on electronic manipulations and also they sang live in front of audiences regularly and paid their dues early in their careers singing in small bars and venues sometimes for decades before they got a big break.
Patsy Cline was my mom's favorite. She could sit and listen to her for hours. God I miss my mom. Dang onion ninjas running around.
Patsy was peerless. Once in a lifetime voice.
Although I can't tolerate country music, there's something about Patsy Cline's voice that overcomes that. And this song is the bomb!
I LOVE country music and this (and many others) are at the tops!
Man, she had range. What a classic, elegant chanteuse. Perfection! 👌
In my opinion Janis Joplin and Patsy Cline had unique voices that can never be replaced or copied.
And Ella Fitzgerald
@Broncobill58 Don’t compare Joplin to Patsy although talented in her own right Ms Cline showed the class that went hand and hand with her music.Glad you guys did this one.
I love Patsy Cline she was very good.
Makes the hair on the neck stand up . Soooo wonderful to hear this voice again.
Patsy Cline was a superstar of not just country music, but music in general. Linda Ronstadt also recorded a wonderful version of this song as well.
Linda...now there was a lady who could sing ANYTHING.
My favorite Patsy Cline song!!!!!
Patsy Cline and Karen Carpenter were the most beautiful, female voices ever!
You are so right, Karen Carpenter's voice was magic! Another wonderful artist who died too soon.
You have excellent taste
You're so right. The 50' - 90's cannot be duplicated. Sad. No autotune, just pure raw talent.
Loretta named one of her twins Patsy after her good friend. She did have a beautiful voice. And if Jay likes Doris Day, she also made many movies. My favorite is Move over Darling, a comedy. Love the old movies.
You HAVE to do “Faded Love”. Especially the last 10 seconds. Destroys me every time.
"Faded Love" kills me, too! I don't know how Patsy can sing perfectly while crying at the same time.
Me too 😢
She was Loretta Lynn's best friend, and ppl say Patsy would cuss like a sailor, lol. Captivating and stunningly beautiful voice...I'm 60 and salty, and this brought a tear.
So many country songs come from actual life experiences. That's what reaches our hearts.
Patsy Cline had a one of a kind voice. I like this song
My two all-time favorite female vocalists are Patsy Cline and Karen Carpenter. The Doris Day song I like the most is Put 'Em in a Box, Tie 'Em with a Ribbon and Throw 'Em in the Deep Blue Sea. What a mouthful that is!! As far as Loretta Lynn, she and Patsy were good friends. Their relationship is explored in Loretta's biopic, Coal Miner's Daughter.
I was raised on Patsy Cline. So many car rides singing with my mom and sister at the top of my lungs.
One of THE greatest voices....EVER!!!!
Sweet Dreams Movie great vocals about Patsy Cline.
Amber, you nailed your assessment of Patsy perfectly!
Now, do yourselves a huge favor and listen to the remake of this song done by Leann Rimes when she was just 16 years old. Leann does put some incredible yodel into her rendition and it will blow you away too that a 16 year old could possess that level of talent, and hers is without auto tune as well. 👍🏼
I think k.d.lang believes that she channels Patsy Clines voice, hence the name of her first backup band The Reclines
Grew up a rocker but anytime Patsy comes on, you stop and listen and swoon
With your divine appreciation of voices like Dorris Day and Patsy Cline, I'm surprised you haven't done an Anne Murray song yet. She came along a little later than Dorris and Patsy (1970ish I think) but just an absolutely rich, pure and stunning voice! Snowbird is the song that first broke her into the US market (followed by many more) and it's definitely a good place to start if you decide to give her music a go. Lovely reaction as always, you two!
Anne was influenced by those singers. They've only reacted to You Needed Me, Snowbird should be up next. So many people were fans, including Elvis.
Pure talent! She doesn't need gimmicks.
Not a country fan at all, but her voice and style of singing was so unique. How could you not appreciate it? She was one of a kind.
Her Voice was Real!
One of the best female voices ever. Gone too soon. ❤
At age 13, Cline was hospitalized with a throat infection and rheumatic fever. Speaking of the incident in 1957 she said, "I developed a terrible throat infection and my heart even stopped beating. The doctor put me in an oxygen tent. You might say it was my return to the living after several days that launched me as a singer. The fever affected my throat and when I recovered I had this booming voice like Kate Smith's...
I was born in 57 and by the time the 60s came around I was country for life . Patsy and Jim and Jim Reeves combined fa duet they are a must . Sadly both passed away in plane crashes but you van not find music or voices like this today .
I was 3 days old whenever this beautiful woman passed, shes haunted my dreams most of my life, You belong me, has been a song most prominent. Wow!
Thank you Jay and Amber for giving props to Patsy Cline! I am honored to share a birthday with her.
Man. It's wonderful to see young people like you appreciate artists from before your era.
Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn were best friends. Loretta named one of her twins Patsy.
RARELY do voices give me the CHILLS, Patsy is one of them!!! I get the CHILLS
Love patsy cline she was a great country singer died too soon
Bill Mack, the midnight cowboy wrote 'blue' for Patsy but she died before he could give it to her. He sat on it for years until he heard a young LeAnn Rimes and decided she had the voice to do it justice.
Did you know Willie Nelson wrote the song Crazy, and Patsy made it a hit!
I grew up on this music and every time I hear these songs it takes me back to a better time in life.
Proof that Angel's do exist...
Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline were close friends. She named a daughter after Patsy. You’d get a kick out of the movie “Coal Miner’s Daughter”. Loretta Lynn’s biography. Acting and singing were great.
Check out K.D.Lang's "Full Moon Full of Love," " Season of Hollow Soul." Patsy Cline was her hero.
If you ever watched her sing you’d be amazed at how effortlessly she hit every note. And her voice was the purest voice I have heard.
You guys are spot in assessing Ms. Cline's voice. Truly classic and one of a kind, definitely not of this generation.
Doris Day was, and still is, my favorite female singer. Loved her music as well as her tv show and movies.
This is the very first song I ever sang in front of strangers....karaoke night at the lake years ago. I always LOVED Patsy Cline...so my boyfriend PUSHED me to sing her music that night and if it hadn't been for all those Bud Lights...I would NOT have had the nerve. LIQUID COURAGE!!!! And I must have done pretty well because I got a standing ovation....and they asked me to sing again....so the second song was Lee Ann Womack-I hope you dance. LIQUID COURAGE to the rescue!!!! But it was so much FUN!!
I think those voices are still here. It’s just that present day singers just seem to be intent in showcasing their voices with vocal gymnastics and bellowing as loud as they are able. I’m in my 70s and I often just wish they would sing one of these old time songs, just to let me hear what they really sound like. I bet they have sweet tones too.
Patsy Cline was known for songs of heartache. You can feel such sadness and pain in her voice.
Hi... I am 45 and grew up listening to Patsy thanks to my mom :) I listen to this song all the time as well as the song Walkin after Midnight :)
a good country song, done by a good country singer, can just tear your heart out. this is one of those.
I loved hearing LeeAnn Rimes singing a tribute to Patsy Cline.
Patsy is one of my all time favs ! She is timeless great voices are always in style
