I read _Danse Macabre_ in the early '80s and I remember he mentions that very book you're holding up at 14:31, _I Am Legend_ by Richard Matheson. He said he loved the book and added, "I envy you your first read."
I was at that same book store around a year ago. It was packed full of people and the aisles were all ripped apart. I couldn’t find anything I was so disappointed because they were having a big sale. It’s about an hour away from me, too. This video makes me want to go back!
It would be definitely worth the drive once every few months to have that choice. We have Powell City of Books here in Portlanc Or. It’s new and used and a full city block big. They provide a map to find your way around!
Lol. The reason you are buying so many books is the same reason that I do. We need them. Lol. You’re working on your home library and there is nothing wrong with that. you go girl. And I am totally with you as far as not liking people. 😆😆😆 especially men in bookstores. It feels stalker-ish.
So agree! I have a huge amount of books around and many I have never read. When the whole lockdown thing came on and they closed all the libraries and many were short on money for extras, I was like No problem, I have all kinds of reading material!
All those Richard Laymon books-I read one and was like ummm 👀 😂😂 I still would like to give him a shot-you should totally do a Richard Laymon reading vlog.
just found your channel, and i started to read horror this year and i'm LOVINGGG, so i don't know a lot of books, and your recs are amazing... "this is about a cult that kills kids? LOVED" - this is me 100%
oh my god. we don't have any book superstores like that here in Germany, especially not any with such a horror section like that. but if we had, I would be broke after being in there :)
I love the Preston and Child books , I have 1st edition hardcovers of all of them. The Agent Pendergast series in Particular should be read in publication order. The series have characters who come and go through out the series, Relic is book 1 in the series. I hope you enjoy them when you get to them.
8:20 That's the very edition of _The Stand_ that I read way back in the early '80s! The one with the Dark Man's face on the cover. It was the original shorter version before he restored the missing 400 pages. It was 800+ pages, the biggest book I'd ever read at the time, and still is. I've always wondered, how many pages was it, exactly? I remember somewhere over 800 but I can't remember was it about 830 or closer to 850 . . . ? Could you open it up to the last page of story, before the ads for his other books, and tell me exactly how many pages that book is? Thanks.
LOL I've done the same thing with Laymon. I have yet to read one but I own about 6 of his books 😂 Also, I pray and hope that you love I Am Legend, I love it so so much!!! OMMGG please read No Exit ASAP, it's so so good!
I love the Used Book Superstore! I go to that location all the time, they do have another one (I can't remember where it is) but I prefer the Burlington location. I'm sorry you didn't have the best experience though. Unfortunately, they lump the horror with the fantasy and on the other side of the aisle is the scifi, so that section can get pretty busy. Hopefully if you ever decide to visit again you don't bump into any weird dudes.
Still on the hunt for a hardcover Salem’s Lot! I do have a few versions of the paperback. That would be very kind of you, but please don’t feel like you have to do that!!
Great haul! I think the authors Some of my most read authors, aside from King, are Preston and Child. I've read pretty much everything they've written, either together or separate. Definitely read Relic and all the other Pendergast books in order! Relic is one of my all-time favorites! I'd love to know how you like the Laymon books once you get to them - I don't think I've read anything from him. Thanks for sharing your trip and haul! 🎃
No Exit is Insanely good!! I just googled this bookstore, I didn't know about it and I am going, so 😁 excited. How were the prices? It's about 1&1/2 hrs from me but sounds awesome! Thanks so much for this haul!!!
danse macabre is a non fiction book made up of king's lectures he gave at a university about the horror genre. some interesting stuff, but i never actually finished it. only 1 of his i didn't finish. and rose madder is super underrated. love that novel.
@@mandysmorgueofhorror i should try again. it was interesting, hearing him talk about the four horror stories we love telling over and over again: the man with the hook for a hand, frankenstein, dracula, and jekyll and hyde.
The talisman is my favourite book of all time. Like god tier, number one spot. Is really good and you must prepare for a ride. It actually has a sequel " The black house" if I'm correct, but can also be a wonderful stand alone book. I really wanna know your thoughts on it. Also hi! I'm new here and I'm really loving your videos! Have a great week ✨✨✨
wolf is one of the best characters from king's work, as is the blind dj in black house. the ending of black house is super creepy. both star jack sawyer, talisman he's a kid, black house he's a grown man.
four past midnight is another 4 novella collection by king. it is easily my favorite king collection it has a little bit of everything. not sure if you will like laymon or not... i love his books but they are definitely dated and not for everybody
The Talisman is one of the few King books that I didn't like. I've read almost all of Laymon's books and most are a blast. His books are similar to Bentley Littles.

I don’t care who is looking at horror books in a store at the same time as me, man, woman, non gender whatever. I just want them all to ….. off so I can browse in peace.

I’ve lost an entire day in that place. It’s like a cathedral to the written word.
I could easily spend all day in any book store as long as they have lots of horror choices lol
RL Stine has a second adult novel too called Red Rain
Good haul and killer silver shamrock beanie!

You might have luck finding King books online!

Was The Return from the movie that was out a couple years ago?
Good haul. I’ve never read Richard Laymon but I know I see /hear about Endless Night all the time.
I think it’s pretty intense 😧
Endless night is great so is one rainy night
Who wrote “the believers”, I need to find that! It kinda went by too fast to see
What a great haul! I also found superstitious by R.L. Stine the other day, can't wait to see how it compares to Fear Street! New Sub :)
