Blessed are the Sick is my favourite - so much variety and all of it well executed. Compelling lyrical themes bolstering brilliant compositions. So many beautiful crazy solos, I especially love the final solo of Brainstorm - I swear that final piercing note tears a rift in space-time.
I'm the seer (I'm the seer... I'm the seer...) I know the texts divine Thunder words Demons race into my eyes (eyes... eyes...eyes..) Final Trey's SOLO Always sends a chill down my spine man..
I feel like people are harder on Morbid Angel than other death metal bands. Their not the first or last to fumble the ball. And people are so laxed on Cannibal Corpse. Cannibal can make the same song a million times (no hate.) And people love it every time. All Morbid did was take some chances. And I honestly think all the albums a lot of the fanbase doesn't like (Domination and Gateways) are their best material.
A. Heretic (2003) B. Gateways To Annihilation (2000) C. Formulas Fatal To The Flesh(1998) D. Abominations Of Desolation (1986-1991) E. Altars Of Madness (1989) F. Blessed Are The Sick (1991) G. Kingdom Disdained (2017) H.Domination (1995) I. Entangled In Chaos (1996) J. Covenant (1993) K. Juvenilia (1990-2015) L. Illud Divinum Insanus (2011)
I still return to the comments section below David Vincent’s music videos from his country album. Morbid Angel fans were having a field day suggesting future song titles. «Lord of all fields and ploughs», «Blessed are the hicks» are just some of the gems. Hilarious reading.
Great show guys. My favourite by far is Covenant, awesome album. I haven't really listened to much of the Tucker albums, so will have to give them a try. Keep up the good work 👏
I’ve been a fan from the beginning and my top go to is Heretic. That album is so criminally underrated. I don’t get the hate on that one, riffing and drumming is top notch. I get the dislike for Illud but personally I like the guitar work it’s the vocals and lyrics that ruin that album for me. The music David wrote was also pretty lame but imagine if Steve had a go at Destructos, it would have been a banger. The riffing in that song is infectious and strange. Had that album had a more death metal vocal approach I don’t think it would have gotten the hate it received. I remember being really disappointed in Gateways when it came out and now I love it. It took many years for me to appreciate that one. Trey is the Jedi master of death metal riffing…I don’t think a dude that doesn’t really know the music should be doing a ranking. This is not fast food. It’s not shallow music so a shallow listening won’t reveal the brilliance of this particular band. This is no immediate music.
Interesting points about Illud man - your probably right if we had Steve on some of those tracks like Destructos they actually could have been pretty good. And ya I agree 100% MA is not a band to only give a listen or two too. Some of those albums took years for me to come around on and fully absorb - still absorbing tbh and have been jamming them for a long time. Thanks for watching man \m/
This was fun. I hope to see you guys do this with other bands. I love all Morbid Angel’s albums except Illud LOL I could really have Formulas and Altars tied at number 1 but I made the hard choice. Juvenalia and Abominations of Desolation are so fucking good too. Here’s my ranking: 1. Formulas Fatal To The Flesh 2. Altars of Madness 3. Blessed Are the Sick 4. Covenant 5. Gateways To Annihilation 6. Heretic 7. Kingdoms Disdained 8. Illud Divinum Insanus
Excellent episode, really made my day listening to it and connecting to the opinions, especially Jason I can hear he truly gets the band and their vision. I somewhat prefer the Tucker version of MA as they have the rawness that was starting to fade on domination. Wish they had more cash or quality control for heretic, it's a revolutionary album but the sound buries a lot of it. As a side note the combo of Trey and Pete at their prime and sober is not matched anywhere else in death metal, in my opinion. Also Pete is an incredible to watch live. I was in a band supporting MA for gateways in Europe and every night there was 5-10 guys watching him totally mesmerized. Including the behemoth and dying fetus lads. Incredible experience. Thanks for the podcast, you guys are doing something important please keep going.
Appreciate that a lot man! That had to be amazing supporting MA. And ya that was something we didn’t talk about - the combo of Pete and Trey! Great points!
I really think that it depends which album from them you listened first. Like all the ones who listened Altars first they like as the best. My first was Covenant. I like Domination more but Coventant would be number 2.
Interesting I don’t know man I agree they get better after this album but I think the frantic Slayer-ish - but weirder, types of solos work well for this one. Matches the overall energy of it. But ya they get a lot better and more memorable after that album

Man great point about the variety on that one. Keeps it so listenable. And ya obviously gotta agree on those solos… haha
Altars and Blessed are easily the best they've ever been.
I'm the seer (I'm the seer... I'm the seer...)
I know the texts divine
Thunder words
Demons race into my eyes (eyes... eyes...eyes..)
Final Trey's SOLO
Always sends a chill down my spine man..
I’d put
1: formulas
2: alters
3: covenant
4: gateways
5: kingdoms
6: blessed
7: heretic
8: domination
Damn I actually really like this ranking minus blessed being a little low for me haha
Domination this low? Man you are truly an heritic
I like the format you guys are doing with these ranking videos. Hope you make more.
Thanks man! Definitely will

Iiiinteresting ranking I like it. Hell ya on the love for Tucker era stuff. Never see Heretic get the number 1 spot so that’s sick too
Heretic is the patricians choice.
we have the same top 3 just flipped
Great job per usual boys! I’d have to go 1. Altars 2. Blessed 3. Gateways 4. Covenant 5. Formulas 6. Domination 7. Kingdom 8. Heretic
Thanks man! Does anyone actually have the same MA ranking? Doesn’t seem like it which is awesome haha

lmao
1: covenant 2: domination 3: gateways 4: formulas 5: altars 6: blessed 7: heretic 8: kingdom
Domination for me ... I love the fantasy vibe it has 🙏🌎💯
Great show guys. My favourite by far is Covenant, awesome album. I haven't really listened to much of the Tucker albums, so will have to give them a try. Keep up the good work 👏
Thanks man appreciate it! Definitely give those Tucker albums some time 👌
Blessed are the Sick by a mile.

Well said, Heretic is very under rated 🤘🤘🔥

It's heretic's production. If the production was better people would like it more.
ALTARS, FORMULAS, COVENANT, DOMINATION, THEN THE REST
This was fun. I hope to see you guys do this with other bands. I love all Morbid Angel’s albums except Illud LOL

Hell ya man love this ranking. What other bands should we do it for??

Covenant is my #1 Death Metal album of all time.
Omg it's an instrumental!! Good god it's called mood man. Smoke one and try again yeeesh.
Richard played more solos on Altars than Trey
Listen to Warfather The Grey Eminence. It is Tucker and Rutan's release a year before Kingdoms Disdained. Tucker at his best
I really think that it depends which album from them you listened first. Like all the ones who listened Altars first they like as the best. My first was Covenant. I like Domination more but Coventant would be number 2.
Yeah domination cover isnt the best...
Ya good point for sure
I'd actually rank Altars a bit down. I'd much rather listen to the next three albums.
Seen morbid angel with vitriol and crypta in Columbus Ohio not long ago great show just wish the set list was a little bit better
Ya I agree man
The rhythm guitars are so good on altars, the solos not so much
Interesting I don’t know man I agree they get better after this album but I think the frantic Slayer-ish - but weirder, types of solos work well for this one. Matches the overall energy of it. But ya they get a lot better and more memorable after that album
whats that intro song? holy hell its sweet
Its great
Altars, Blessed, Covenant and that's it. The rest SUCK.
