Covenant is my favorite of all. I remember buying Illud Divinum Insanus and getting home super excited. I played it and was so disappointed, I just couldn't wrap my head around it. I read an interview with David Vincent on that album, and he said Trey was getting into sampling and was doing like techno dj stuff, so that stuff you hear is all him on that record. Great video man!
Really enjoyed the ranking James, save maybe one or two releases switched around for me, I pretty much am in line with you on the order of album preferences.
Nice to see a Morbid Angel ranking. Kingdoms Distained came bottom in my ranking too, and I agree that Illivid etc is a mixed bag but like say some great songs. That riff on the middle eight of where the slime live is awesome!
great video! same top 3 here as well :) you mention god of emptiness was the first morbid angel track you've heard, most likely because that was their first video clip. haha i think that clip was in a beavis and butthead episode on mtv when i first heard them and shortly after i bought the album. still my most favoured death metal band. such consistency in quality
Good ranking. Very useful as I only really know the first couple of their albums, so I'll check out some of the ones I don't know that you speak highly of 🤘🤘
Awesome ranking James! I've heard some of them, got a tonne left to go! But will get there eventually as what I have heard I've really liked, I think they're one of my favourite Death Metal bands I've heard so far! Also RIP Mike Howe, I saw that a few days ago. Not really listened to Metal Church but still very sad to hear of his passing. Will get round to hearing them at some point. And RIP Joey Jordison, fantastic drummer. Absolutely gutted to hear about his passing 😔🤘🤘🤘
Great list here Mr Boulder. I actually saw them live in Tampa a year or two ago and got a pick from Mr Trey. Absolutely killer stuff. I was disappointed that they wouldn’t play any of their early stuff, seems so petty to me. Grown men bickering! Anyways, loved your opinions here. MA was my gateway to Extreme metal and they will always have a place in my heart!
They used 7 strings on Covenant, World of Shit, Blood on My Hands and God of Emptiness were all Bb standard 7 strings. To me Covenant is the best record by Morbid then followed by Domination. Covenant is my favorite metal album of all time. There are so many records that blew mind the first time I heard them but Covenant still melts my brain on how good it is.
I don't think Kingdoms Distained is worse than Illud. I agree however that Kingdoms Distained has some forgettable moments but overall a solid album. It's nice to see someone not rank their first album as their best. It's difficult to rank the first 4 because I like them pretty much equally. I am hoping to see them live this coming December 2024. Cheers!
Interesting idea for a video man , Morbid Angel is a one of those bands I just couldn’t quite get really into . I think Altars of Madness is a total masterpiece, but after that I just can’t really find anything that leaves me saying WOW. I have their first three albums , the next album I’m gonna get is Domination , just for collecting purposes I suppose. Covenant is my second favorite one . Cheers 🤘
Always interesting to watch these ratings. For me Illud Divinum Insanus would not get on the list. If they had taken 5 songs and released an ep, it would work. But then I hate I am morbid...... Love Gateways Of Annihilation, top 5 for me. Met Trey before they played in Bergen after the Heretic release, and said about the same as you pointed out, he was not very happy about that....... I think he was very satisfied with that album, but second to last for me. Cool video. And R.I.P. Mike, great vocalist.
Great list but what about their album Abominations of Desolation? It came out the same year as Blessed Are The Sick. Supposedly it was supposed to be their debut album but it got shelved.
I have to sort of disagree with you about KINGDOMS. Garden of Disdain and Paradigms Warped had some excellent and unique riffs from Trey. Those are the 2 best songs on the album for me. I thought the rest of the album was mostly forgettable other than those 2.
Kingdoms disdained was obvious that is even worse than illud just by looking at the cover, it has nothing mystical or occult on it, it was big indication that something is really wrong
I agree with your take on Steve Tucker, and his vocals being a bit generic. I have always said that without David Vincent, Morbid Angel is j(mostly) ust another death metal band. and this isnt to say his material Is bad.
an interesting take on these and your list isn't to different to mine. I would have the latest a bit higher though. If you weigh up the amount of good death metal riffs you get on that album compared to the other end two you showed I think it tops them. My no.1 is always going to be Domination as well. That was my gateway and Where the Slime Lives is to me the best death metal song out there. Blessed is my no 2 though. Shame on you!! haha
I have to say that Morbid Angel is not really my favorite band but I know their discography pretty well though. I like your refreshing point of view. My ranking for today: 1- Formulas fatal to the flesh (by far) 2- Domination 3- Blessed are the sick 4- Covenant (meh) 5- Altars of madness (most overrated album of all time i.m.o., never understood the praise, a few riffs are OK but it´s overloaded with blast beasts and shrieky guitars) 6- Gateways 7- Kingdom disdained 8- Illud 9- Heretics (sorry, unlistenable!)
Covenant is my favorite of all. I remember buying Illud Divinum Insanus and getting home super excited. I played it and was so disappointed, I just couldn't wrap my head around it. Covenant is a beast of an album mate, cheers for watching
ive always why Trey Azadthoth never just bit the ullet and did a side project for his experimental material.
im sure it would have been amazing
A surprising Morbid Angel ranking, James! Surprising because I never thought Kingdom Disdained would ranked as the worst.
Not a band I’ve heard a lot of so interesting to hear your opinion, great ranking mate!
Cheers Scott. A band with some amazing records behind them for sure
Was so disappointed with Kingdoms mate. Where The Slime Live is just an amazing song. Illvid is one of the most confusing album's in my collection
great video! same top 3 here as well :) you mention god of emptiness was the first morbid angel track you've heard, most likely because that was their first video clip. haha i think that clip was in a beavis and butthead episode on mtv when i first heard them and shortly after i bought the album. still my most favoured death metal band. such consistency in quality
Great minds think alike 🙂 I remember seeing it on Beavis and Butthead too. Thanks for watching fella 👍
Good ranking. Very useful as I only really know the first couple of their albums, so I'll check out some of the ones I don't know that you speak highly of 🤘🤘
Cool ranking 🤘I have the first 2 Morbid Angel albums but probably should pick up the next couple also. RIP Mike Howe, too young
Cheers Brendan. I agree mate, definitely grab Covenant and Domination as they're both brilliant
A fantastic band for sure mate with a solid discography behind them. Very shocked to hear of Mike and Joey's death's, both died way too young
@@mrboulder9714 Yeah mate, I can't wait to check out more of their discography. Yep, way too young, really sad day in Metal 😔😓🤘🤘
Yeah that kind of petty bollocks is infuriating for sure. Never managed to catch them live unfortunately. Cheers for watching fella 👍
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. Yeah Covenant is excellent and a bit underrated for me
I don't think Kingdoms Distained is worse than Illud. I agree however that Kingdoms Distained has some forgettable moments but overall a solid album. It's nice to see someone not rank their first album as their best. It's difficult to rank the first 4 because I like them pretty much equally. I am hoping to see them live this coming December 2024. The production on Kingdoms could definitely be better. I've still not seen Morbid Angel live. Hopefully i will one day
Covenant, Altars of Madness and Formulas Fatal to the Flesh are my top 3. I have no idea how to rank them though. They all rule equally.
Cheers 🤘
Covenant is great, I'd definitely recommend grabbing Domination mate
I like this rankin! i too consider covenant and domination their 2 best. And for me also God of emptiness was their first song ever listened.
Yeah Covenant and Domin6are classic records. Cheers for watching fella
Domination!!!!!
Always interesting to watch these ratings. For me Illud Divinum Insanus would not get on the list. If they had taken 5 songs and released an ep, it would work. But then I hate I am morbid...... Cheers fella, hope you're well

Kingdoms does have some interesting ideas on it, but a few killer riffs doesn't equal great songs
Here is my ranking of Morbid Angel's albums;
ua-cam.com/video/cH9R8OYCAUY/v-deo.html
Thanks
Beavis and Butthead and the movie Night of the Demons 2 introduced me to Morbid Angel
Covenant,Blessed,Altars, then you listen to Vltimas when you want to hear modern day Morid Angel
Cheers for watching, yeah Vltimas is great, would be good to get another album from them sometime
Kingdoms disdained was obvious that is even worse than illud just by looking at the cover, it has nothing mystical or occult on it, it was big indication that something is really wrong
Such a poor album, I was really looking forward to it before it came out as well
Ten More Dead is a great song!
Yep, that song is decent
I agree with your take on Steve Tucker, and his vocals being a bit generic.
I have always said that without David Vincent, Morbid Angel is j(mostly) ust another death metal band.
and this isnt to say his material Is bad.
The Tucker era is very good, but yeah Steve is a bit generic vocally. Dave Vincent is the better vocalist of the 2. Cheers fella 👍
an interesting take on these and your list isn't to different to mine. I would have the latest a bit higher though. If you weigh up the amount of good death metal riffs you get on that album compared to the other end two you showed I think it tops them. My no.1 is always going to be Domination as well. Yeah you make a good point mate on the riffage on Kingdoms. Domination is perfection,.Blessed is good but just OK 😉
I love heretic, enshrined by grace, stricken arise best songs
Cheers for watching mate 👍
I have to say that Morbid Angel is not really my favorite band but I know their discography pretty well though. I like your refreshing point of view. My ranking for today:
1- Formulas fatal to the flesh (by far)
2- Domination
3- Blessed are the sick
4- Covenant (meh)
5- Altars of madness (most overrated album of all time i.m.o., never understood the praise, a few riffs are OK but it´s overloaded with blast beasts and shrieky guitars)
6- Gateways
7- Kingdom disdained
8- Illud
9- Heretics (sorry, unlistenable!)
Thanks for watching and commenting. Good to see someone giving Formulas the respect it rightfully deserves, nice ranking overall. Cheers
Yep - I'll take the three 'real' songs on Illud over the entirety of Kingdoms Piss Stained - what a complete dud.
Agreed, a few decent songs on Kingdoms but it's mostly a disappointing album. Cheers for watching
illud divinum insanus №1
Thanks for watching and commenting
