I am a retired Marine and I am glad your Dad being a Marine raised such a fine Son. I am proud of you on his behalf. You make great and informative videos that I enjoy very much. God Bless you and your family. Semper Fi!
I got one for $40, and it looked brand new in 2014. I carried it daily from 2014 to 2017 when I retired from the Army. I made a custom sheath for Scout carry. I took the spine coating off for ferro rod use. I still carry going into the woods and camping. I was also active with scouting with my son and carried it. Excellent knife and wouldn't think twice about bringing overseas if the need be. Nice video.
I agree. I've had mine for about 5 years now & it's becoming my go to knife more & more. I patinaed mine the same way & put the micarta scales on it with a leather sheath. I have the AZ Welke for my BK17. I would recommend TOMAR'S KA-BAR KNIVES if you would like to find any KA-BAR. Semper Fi.
nice music edits !! haha Always appreciate any old-school footage of baby chunk-style Gabriel too, Been here since those days so it's always a fun reminder especially with him being a 6 3" monster now lol
Dad broke his BK2 years ago batonning a 2x4 with another piece of 2x4, and that was the end of that knife. I've never held the BK10, I might try and pick one up this year.
I've got Old Hickory kitchen knives that are high carbon steel. Wipe them off every time and they'll never rust. If I forget to wipe them off I'll take a soap pad to them and wipe them down with Camellia oil, the same oil that Japanese sword makers use. Nice knife and you're taking good care of it. The ultimate bushcraft knife should cost about $700 so your friends would be impressed at your wealth when you're waving that baby around. "Yeah, this thing is made of meteor dust".
The only way I'll ever own a $700 knife is if someone were to give it to me. Even then, I'm not sure I'd even use it, which makes it almost worthless to me.
I have had a BK16 for like 7-8 years. Over that time I have bought several other bushcraft/camping knives including several that cost 2-3x as much as the BK16 and yet I always end up back with the BK16 or when I am using a different knife I find myself missing the BK16
Anytime I go to a show or shop, I compare every knife that I pick up to the BK16. I walk in wanting to buy a new knife, and I walk out without empty handed. The BK-16 just fits for me.
I stripped the coating, thickened the handle and made a kydex sheath for it, and now I love my bk16, but it is a good knife from the factory. The sheath is probably the waekest point.
It's always been on my to-do list to have a couple of these BK knives from k-bar. The bk9 and the 16 from what I understand are wonderful and I need to add them to my collection.
@@robertsbushcraft Of the knives I OWN the bk9 would be my go to facing oblivion if i could only have one. I agree. I have rtak 2,sp5, Kershaw camp 10 and the bk9 is my go to. Love the handle of rtak 2 better, but the bk9 wins. Bk 9 is a man knife. I'd like to try the survive knives gso 10
Get the bk9. If you like midsized the bk7 is the best I own. Prefer it to my esee 6. I've heard really good things about the lionsteel m7 and survive knives gso 7/7 for midsized. Also heard good th I ngs about survive knives gso 10. I I wn bk7, bk9, bk16, and bk2. Bk2 sucks though. Not practical
@@navigator1372 In the mid-size range is the Joker Nomad 6.5... which is N695 stainless steel with a convex edge. I could never convince myself to like that thumb ramp on the BK7. I've had the Joker for a couple of weeks and I'm loving it.
Mine of 3yrs old remains standard. I made my own bushcraft sheath though for scout carry or normal side and place for ferro rod of 5mm thick leather. Setup is a beast. Bk16 my main go to but EDC is Crkt hunt n fisch, other main blades BST ambassador, Buck open season and Mora companion. Just love em all with different character. See comments about sheaths on here. One does not buy a knife and worry bout the quality of the sheath, replace em. Made my own for 3 of above 5 knives. Love your review, considering doing the mods but not the sheath, love leather.
Manly Drugar/Manly Patriot. LT Wright Genesis or GNS with Flat grinds, Ka-Bar BK 16, TRC South Pole, Lionsteel M4, Joker Ember F, ESEE PR4 are some of the most useful knives. No need to go bigger and unwieldy.. My most used fixed blade, is the Manly Patriot and my most unused knives, are the large ones.
The local farmers, hunters where I live, who never used internet in their lives, so they don't know about knives like the BK16, most of them, carry a knife very similar to the BK16. The size of the knife ,size type of grind and profile of the blade, all are almost exactly the same! Happy new year!!@@robertsbushcraft
My BK 16 is identical to yours except my AZWELKE is black. All my Becker’s and ESEE blades live in one of his sheaths , thinking about sending him my Lion steel T5. I’ve had my Becker knives for a few years and I love them. The last year of so I find my self reaching for my ESEE 3&4 in S35VN. The edge retention just blows 1095 away. I’m well aware of the pro and cons of both steels and can put a edge on either in the field. I keep my BK 2 close by just incase I need to pry open a car door ! 😂
The design of this knife looks so perfect! I just wish it came in a better steel! Hey uncle Ethan, if you’re reading this, please make this knife in a powder stainless steel and ill buy a few at least! 🙏
Hi Gabriel, Great video. It is important not to be stuck with a $3.00 gas station knife when you need a real one. I also will never own the overpriced hand made knives you are scared to use. I don't own a Becker yet. My bag has a Cold steel SRK (the Carbon V model) and next in the collection will be an ESEE (not sure which one). I have Ontario and I even have a real Russian Spetsnaz (special forces) survival knife. My EDC folder is a Cold Steel Recon -1 Tanto. It is robust and has been with me since approximately 2005. I passed by Smokey Mountain Knife Works and I had to pull in and I bought it.
I can't really explain why, but, KA-BARs have always been my go-to blades. I've had Gerber knives here and there, but, KA-BAR has always been my choice.
Have that knife but it doesn't cut as well as the joker knives of the same full flat grind. The 50 dollar corzo and montes 2 cut better. Same grind. I just don't like leather sheaths. Wish the bk16 came in stainless steel.
I have that knife but don’t really like it. I hate hate hate the jimping. The sheath it comes with is trash. I also don’t like how narrow the handle gets close to the blade.

HAHA that's awesome! Fun Fact: the old video we had on this knife caused us to get a channel strike.
I own the BK2 and the BK10. I use them both hard and love em!

Nice knife. It was fun seeing an older clip of you, too. 😁
It seems like that video so long ago and yesterday both at the same time :)

Jasco paint remover.
