I have a medium ALICE on a Down East 1609 frame and I will say it is the best combination I’ve ever carried. Very comfortable to wear all day and it has enough flex that it moves with you well.
Have you heard of Crossfire packs? They are an Australian company that makes a frame system that can be used on Alice-type packs. Looks pretty comfy and robust.
I like this idea and I have an oldeer version on the medium alice pack made from heavey duty canvases with out the sleeve for the top of the frame and r1ealy want to attach a fillbe frame to it for hunting it has straps already installed on the pack with no padding in them I have a after markei set of shoulder straps.and waist /kidney pad and belt and the shoulder straps have a sternum strap on them. What a am asking is how di i install a filbert frame to this pack? Please help me with some ideas.
You might want to try to locate a cheap ALICE pack so you can unstitch the upper back padding and use it on your ruck, or potentially have a set of straps sown in place that would secure the FILBE frame to it, and could use the FILBE suspension system on it to provide the upper back padding needed for your ruck. I don't know though, I would need to see the ruck to better understand what we're working with. Have you considered making a video showcasing your project?
Just found the channel thought of cool mods how do you hook the straps to the top of the Italian pack frame I can see where you hook the bottom in but where do you hook the top in
@@thatpackguy yeah I've search the internet for Italian backpacks and I have yet to see one that looks anything like that I found the u-shaped one and all the other ones that you posted but I cannot find that t-shaped one
Id like to do something similar with a Norwegian Telemark pack, it's probably about the size of a medium Alice. Didn't know about the Italian plastic pack frame, would probably be a less expensive and widely available option in this country, American surplus is often way overpriced in this country and there's little of it. Italian surplus, few care about outside of Italy.
Your best bet is Ebay, you can still find some good deals if you look around. The thing about the Telemark pack though is that it is very specific to its frame and I assume it would be less advantageous to swap it out with a plastic alternative. But if you do manage, you should do a video, would love to see the mods!
@@thatpackguy I'm learning on combining the good parts of a cheap day pack I bought with the good parts of a worn out old British made Karrimor. (The Chinese made ones are garbage but the Karrimor SF packs still made in the UK are very good). Most of the donkey work is done now and some valuable lessons learned the hard way. The Telemark pack will be a challenge, it's all leather shoulder straps and the like, a heavy pre WW2 design that could do with a little lightening and a lot more padding. I'll definitely consider filming the process, there's a few ways it could be done.
Cut the hoop off a ALICE frame and attach it to a MOLLE II frame. You wont be disappointed. It will allow you to adjust the ride height and standoff, with a ton of extra space for additionals. You can keep the ALICE straps on the pack, for quick detach and off-frame use. Most of all you can build it for about $40 from a wrecked ALICE frame and used MOLLE II frame.
On a rather standstill tbh. My school stopped allowed students to freely use sewing machines to work on personal projects, so my plans of enlarging my Large Alice radio pouch went bust and i'm finding a way to put a bent dei 1606 frame on the large or medium pack.. I have 3 woodland alice from the salvation army as my daily ruck now so that aint bad.
Just uploaded a video on this pack, so i have to redact my original reply: while the kidney pad is potentially usable it would need a strap to secure it with, the shoulder pads on the other hand are sewn onto the pack
@@soothingmeow22 gotta give credit where credit is due though, the links in the description will direct you to other youtubers that came up with some of the set ups that inspired mine, so hope you find them as helpful as I did :)
Those Ol Alice Packs are the Ak 47s of the Rucksacks.
Can't fault them

Definitely a good combo i have to say, got that idea from another youtuber "integrity alchemy". And yeah it rides really well on a medium ALICE
Retired military…Alice pack is my favorite rucksack! Subbed!
Good ol' ALICE still has its charm even in the modern era
I used stainless steal hose clamps to attatch a large alice to the rear rack of my KLX250 .
@@mrwdpkr5851 would love to see a video of it!
If you get a small turn buckle it get’s the kidney pad as tight as you like

Ultra cool stuff 👍
Thank you!
I have the frame on the left in olive. On a medium aliceDown East
How do they hold up in cold weather say at temperatures -20 and colder. Plastic can get very brittle.
I haven't tried at those temperatures but the plastic is pretty flexible so I don't think it's a problem
Thank you

On a medium ALICE pack it has the D-rings so i hook it onto those
Alright great idea now just got to find that frame

HEARS ONE. CPF-90 BACK PACK. WILL FIT LARGE A.L.I.C.E SHOULDER STRAPS AN YOU CAN BE DONE WITH THE ADJUSTABLE BACK SYSTEM.
Unfortunately I do not own the CFP-90 so I wouldn't know, but if you do please make a video on it, would love to see it :)
Found that frame in the middle, how did you attach to the Medium Alice?
With the slots in the frame itself
Do you have a link for the first frame you show or the name? good vid btw
Thank you, yeah the link is in the description, it's the Down East Inc. 1606 frame from the FILBE ruck

What kidney pad is on the u shaped 1609?
Eagle Industries MOLLE ii Rifleman kit waist pad belt
What kind of replacement straps and frame would you recommend for a Lg. Alice?
If you're looking to swap out the suspension system I'd go for a 1606 frame like the one in the video and molle ii shoulder pads
Any source on the italian frame? Thanks in advance. I couldn't find any on ebay, etsy or anywhere.
