Larry Linville doesn’t get enough credit for how well he portrayed Frank
Only LL could play Frank Burns-And yes I watched a certain Academy Award winning actor's performance as well!
I agree
No he doesn't
Larry Linville didn’t get enough credit for his comic genius! The man was a shooting star! Of all the characters in MASH he made me laugh so hard I nearly pissed myself! Larry Linville was an extremely gifted comic and a very fine actor. Very underrated and not nearly as appreciated as he should’ve been. One of the funniest moments in MASH was when he was trying to impress Margaret with how tough he was and in the process pulled the pin out of a grenade by accident and then has to find it and put it back in before it explodes. Linville was brilliant in that scene. I never laughed so damned hard in my life!
Or roger healy
The introduction of BJ to the series...where Hawkeye goes with Radar so he can say "Goodbye" to Trapper John. BJ arrives at camp and drunkenly utters..."What say, ferret face?"
My favorite moment was Henry and Frank looking in amazement at a helicopter flying off with Henry’s oak desk. 😂😂😂
Great Episode 😊
My favourate episode . Henry....It just keeps going up and up.
The scene with Henry kissing Margaret was actually bittersweet, because it was one of the last times they would see him alive.
What I recall is that Father Mulcahey blessed his helicopter and departure trip. Guess it only worked within the confines of South Korea.
The intrument drop was the unexpected climax of that episode.
That was NOT part of the script.
It was the last time they would see him alive.
My dad hardly ever laughed at anything. He was a toughened WW 2 vet. Yet he laughed his ass off at the Klinger antics especially the Statue of Liberty Scene. It broke through his saddness!😆🤣👍
FYI Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor days, gunner's mate so he saw it all!💗🥌🏅
God bless him for his service
May God bless ALL of our Servicemen and Servicewomen, past and present! Always remember the Freedoms that they fought for, and, in the unfortunate cases where lives were taken, what they died for! May God bless our Military FOREVER!!!
He probably laughed when he walked into potters office saying"im sec 8 head to toe! I play with dolls! Im wearing a warner bra and my last wish is to be buried im my mothers wedding dress" and potter just tells him HORSE HOCKEY!😂😂🤣
@@juliebryne2903 Right on. A lot of deep moral
I always loved the scene where Potter was so drunk he fell over. Hawkeye and BJ pick him up, and he asks "Did I just fall down? "No, Colonel" "I didn't think so" - the acting and timing of that were perfect.
Harry Morgan told the story of visiting the Hollywood actors home, & talking to Mary Astor, a once quite famous & now elderly actress. She spoke of watching this very scene, & told Harry, "I laughed so hard, I peed in my pants.".;)
The best in the cast at playing funny drunks were the COs, Harry Morgan and MacLean Stevenson.
Funny though... Some of the best shows were with Flagg and- or Sydney. Never could get enough of them.
I loved the episodes with Colonel Flagg.
Yeah, Sydney was one of the best characters. I really wish he became part of the main cast.
Not to mention Tuttle.
The Wind broke his leg
I agree
That scene where Klinger is the statue of liberty and Macarthur salutes. is one of the best comedic scenes in all of television!
I thought he was just trying to shield his eyes from the sun.
Fun Fact: While it's unlikely Macarthur played himself in that role, the person who played him was never credited. Whoever played them remains a mystery.
@@neal7602 imagine getting the actual MacArthur to star as himself. That would be the greatest joke ever
My favorite scene!
@@neal7602 Robert Mitchum!
Lived through the entire original run, 1972-1983. I will never tire of this show. Never.
33ccarp I, also, lived through the entire MASH run. I,also, never tire of watching it. The April Fool's episode recently ran here in Charleston S.C. on MeTV(in fact, MASH is shown Monday through Friday from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM and 7:30 PM on Sundays)
Certain lines from the show I've used over the years: ONE DISASTER AT A TIME; I'M NOT SLEEPING I'M INSPECTING THE INSIDES OF MY EYELIDS; HI THERE AND HOW ARE YOU TODAY?😄😄🌞🌞🌞✌✌✌✌
I was born right after it ended, and I must've gone a decade straight watching the reruns religiously. If any shows deserves to be called timeless, it's MASH
funny though the series was longer than the korean war lol
It was the best so ever I still watch it.
I heard the some of the original cast did not think it would go beyond 1 season, including Alda.
Season 7 episode 5. “Dear Sigmund”. When BJ gets Sidney to stand outside the “Swamp” and yell “Air Raid” and Frank comes out and jumps into his trench which BJ just filled with water.
I love that episode, I especially love how Frank was screaming😂😂😂
The other way around, season 5 episode 7. Because Frank was gone after season 5.
This episode was on the other night
I love that scene!
Season 5 ep 7
I always think of the episode when Hawkeye tries to discover BJ's name. Absolutely classic.
MASH holds up as well as any show from 70s. Writing, casting, acting … blend of comedy and caring
Tuttle... There was a little Tuttle in all of us.
Ah! Bach!
The best thing my grandfather ever did for me was sit me down when I was five and make me watch and episode of MASH with him. 13 years later and it’s my favourite television show of all time.
When Henry gets a new desk and as his polishing it he says to Radar "I bet you don't know what kind of wood this is" and Radar says "it's Oak" and Henry says "Nope, it's Oak" HA, HA HILARIOUS
Those first three seasons were magic, the finest a comedy show can acheive.
MASH inspired me to become an Army Combat Medic. The best times of my life.
Wow, thank you for your service to our country ❤❤🇺🇲🇺🇲
Proud of you
I love mash ...it never gets old. ..
My favourite years were the first three, with the original cast. I never get tired of seeing them!
I agree but I also loved Potter. Without him the later seasons wouldn't have been as good.
Good point. Harry Morgan was a fine actor; “Dragnet,” “Support Your Local Sheriff,” and “The Shootist” being just a few examples.
Same here! I do love Charles though, and Potter was good too, although a couple more seasons with Henry would have been great. I never cared for BJ.
@@Summer_Reigns Charles was absolutely Unfunny !! Frank Burns was so much more amusing.
@@Summer_Reigns I just got home from work and I wasfaa
I watched reruns of Mash in the ‘90s as a teenager every night. One time in high school I was at a party, I was a little tipsy lol. Someone was watching it so I stopped to watch. I had never seen this one before, it turned out to be one where Henry went home 😞. I was crying so hard it took my friends forever to get me to say I was ok, it’s just that Henry died.
It was always a bonus episode for me whenever Flagg showed up. That character was just hysterical! "You're dumb, very dumb, but you've met your match in me!" He just nailed that part, whoever it was who played him!
Edward Winter
Burns: "Pigstye! Brothel!"
Hawkeye: "Here sir!
Trapper: YO!"
That Dr Tuttle was a real hero!!
I can recall so many moments that made me smile from this show.
So true. It's one of my all time favorites!
My favorite has to be when Frank pulls out that tiny pistol and the North Korean is just so confused! "What the hell is that?!?" BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!! If only all wars could be solved in such a ridiculous matter the world would be a better place.
They were actually Chinese.
That scene is funny.
Hawkeye's rant in the Mess Tent in the episode "Adam's Ribs" is the best.
Yes! Then Henry Blake’s reaction to it afterwards, that’s what made it funnier.
We want something else
River of liver and an ocean of fish
I think I lived through that in my childhood. Not enough skim or evaporated milk to wash that down. I
Love the show, love the movie. I flew these helicopters as a flight instructor at Ft Rucker, April '69 to Sept '71.
Enjoyed the book & the series. The movie wasn't really as funny I thought as either one.
The scene where Burns tells Potter he thinks Major Houlihan has been captured is absolutely classic. The deadpan reply by Potter "I see, no naturally you shot Captain Hunnicutt" is just priceless. Cracks me up every time and if I'm not mistaken in the same scene Radar chuckles and Burns gives him heck only for Potter to say something like "don't blame radar, he knows a good joke when he sees one". Great stuff!
Harry Morgan was so great
That is my fave episode and one of my fave lines “so naturally you shot captain Hunnicut!”
Seems to me, that Col. Potter developed an instant dislike for Major Burns from day one!
"My weapon discharged prematurely!"
Me: that's what he said....🤭
LMAO….”thats what he said
Oh my god Frank’s tantrum is a masterpiece
Tony Rice but with a hangover, When I was working at the newspaper (I'm,now, retired), one of my coworkers thought that he was going to get promoted to a supervisor's job. He didn't.
The company had brought in a man from outside (who's turned out to be one of my closest friends), and, my coworker was FIT TO BE TIED!!
I, immediately, thought of Frank's temper tantrum, and, acted it out for some of my other coworkers (I made sure that the one who didn't get promoted wasn't around).
Everybody thought that it was hilarious!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣✌✌✌✌
"Who put water in my gun?" "How do you know it's Water?" STILL hilarious all these years later!
The crazy part is that he was _still_ more of a danger than Five O'Clock Charlie.
@@WillRennar LOLOLOL....Nailed It Will Cheers
Followed by "who put gasoline in my gasoline?"
@@laurab5750 KLINGER...That Was Memorable! Cheers Laura!
I think you should have included a few seconds more at 1:32. After Frank pulls out the gun and everyone is laughing, Hawkeye says "It's also a whistle. He got it out of a box of Cracker Jack."
I'm so glad you included Five O'Clock Charlie!!
Surprised to not see this one...
Frank comes into post op and walks up to Hawkeye, "I'm here to relieve you."
Hawkeye looks at him and says "You do resemble an enema."
Flagg and Klinger’s interactions were great! Flagg: ‘up close, you’re a guy!’ Klinger: ‘Far away too!’ or Klinger calling him Mary when he yells at Klinger about his clothes or snuffs out klinger’s cigar in the palm of his (Flagg’s) hand..
How he kept a straight face while playing Flagg,I don't know. Too bad there weren't more episodes with him & Sidney
We still quote funny lines from MASH. Carry a gun!!! A river of liver and an ocean of fish!!! Greatest show ever!
4:47 one of the rare instances where Charles gets with Pierce _and_ Hunnicutt on their shenanigans
M*A*S*H is owned by Disney now…..
Does that make Klinger a Disney princess?
Yes he is!
I don't know about that, but it would make Burns a Disney Legen---oh, nerts to you! Forget it!
The series peaked the moment the "Klinger Collection" was looted. Jamie Farr was the added punch that this series needed to take it over the top.
Margaret and her foot locker is my favorite scene. The Army won't replace her foot locker unless it's damaged in combat, so...
She gets charles gun he had while hunting for birds and klinger as his bird dog and she shoots her footlocker with it!😂🤣
It sure is nice to watch these scenes without laugh tracks.
It's the BEST!
In Britain the series aired without any laughtrack. It is one of their all time most beloved sitcoms. In the US it had a laughtrack - except in the operating room scenes for dramatic impact.
I like both versions but they definitely have a different feel. 🤔
If you have the DVDs, laugh track is optional
I am in the minority but I hate it without the laugh track, mainly because it was filmed with the laugh track and it is weird, awkward, silent moments without it.
No laugh tracks is a nice change!
I love this show. I see it as much as I can.
1st 3 seasons w/ Henry & Trapper were the best....PERIOD!!!
I really loved them. Sarcasm and the horror of war, topped with good humor.
Klinger as Lady Liberty is my all time favorite ❤️ 😂
I recently bought the entire series, watch 2 or 3 episodes per night, BEST money I ever spent.
Perhaps the greatest television show in TV history in my humble opinion. It had the perfect mix of outrageous comedy and serious drama. The script writing was incredible. One of the two of the most memorable episodes was "The Interview" which was aired in black and white and featured a war correspondant interviewing the medical staff at the 4077. Much of the answers were unscripted. The other top episode was "Life Time" which was aired in real time involving a wounded soldier who needed an aorta within 20 minutes. This episode had to be one of the more emotional heart wrenching episodes of the entire series. M*A*S*H could never be rebooted as this was a masterpiece that cannot be remade. The cast selection was perfect from beginning to end. Harry Morgan's Col. Potter was absolutely brilliant and is perhaps my favorite character in the entire series.
This was a masterpiece of television. It started as an irreverent, silly farce and evolved into a mature, though provoking and ground-breaking show. It's hard to single out one "greatest" television show, but certainly one of the top five. Another that I rank on this list is "The Andy Griffith Show"; but the early ones with Don Knotts. Andy playing straight man to Barney Fife made for some of the funniest television ever filmed!
Comedy gold. All the way through
Isn't it ironic how a show about the fragility of human life, the pointless ness of war and with an intro track called "Suicide is painless", can make you laugh. That's the beauty of M.A.S.H. and why it stood the test of time. Although for me the best years of the show were from Season 6 onwards, after Charles came into the show.
Here's a oldie but a goodie hahahaha
You missed the part where Pierce dancing on the table 😂
"We want something else!"
Adams Ribs :)
My favorite funniest scene will always be where Hawkeye performs an exorcism on the OR and Burns walks out. That was hilarious!
Klinger’s scenes are the best!
Klinger steals all the scenes.
Funny that he started out as a one-shot character but just kept coming back. Kinda like what William Christopher did for Father Mulchahy.
How is this Not included in funniest.
"Colonel Potter Sir.
Corporeal Klinger.
I'm section 8 head to toe.
I'm wearing a warner bra.
I play with dolls.
My last wish is to be buried in my mother's wedding gown.
I'm nuts.
I should be out!"
Harry Morgan's reply is awesome too.
Your right, my bad! There are so many good, funny moments. Coming soon is a series called 'MASH Characters' about each individual character on the show, will be sure to include that and many more from Klinger! Other than that, I hope you enjoyed it!
Horse Hockey!
I love that scene.potter tells him HORSE HOCKEY!😂🤣
Up sir!! Best line ever.❤
"You poisoned the priest!"
A great show in TV history. Seasons 1-3 are the best
My all time favorite show
The longest laugh I ever had was seeing Radar fall down in the mud during the tug of war, and he lifts his head up and his glasses are totally covered in mud and his mouth is wide open as if trying to say "I can't see" 😂
Seriously, how brilliant was Colonel Flag!!
Always made me sad Edward Winter never got really recognised - he was an incredible character actor
No words, but when Frank is in an out-of control tank and runs over Col. Potter’s Jeep, he walks up to the crushed Jeep and, being an old Calvary man, puts one shot thru the radiator.
😂I grew up with this awesome show & I miss it!!!
There was never a truer hero than Captain Tuttle.
I've got a friend I've known since high school that I still hang out with that we've both been wanting gorilla suits to do stupid shit with. Walk into a store to buy bananas, climb shit, etc.
You have to film that!!!
I loved those early episodes. I know they went for more depth later on, but it was just so perfect with Henry, Frank, and Trapper. Likewise, I didn't care for the much watched final episode. It was too dark, too depressing. I guess I viewed those early years as "escapist" viewing. I didn't want to be preached to.
1:58 - A+ for effort, Klinger!
2:21 - I miss "Why do people wait so long before going to see their gorilla?"
That was a great compilation of the best, made me want to watch them in their entireties again!
I thought you were Frank's bag 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Greatest show ever.
(my opinion)
4:32 I love how in the background you can see radar starting to crack up
I liked Mako's response at 1:26 when Frank pulled out that little pistol.
My favorite that never fails to make me laugh is when Col. Blake tells Radar the story of the football game where he taped the wrong leg of the team. It was the episode of the Army Navy games
fun clips but the last shot always brings a lump to my throat. Saying goodbye after all those years.
Me to and sadly we are way past a reunion episode or two!! (which I always hoped for)
@@3Brew I wrote my own. Couldn't call it After MASH so I called it Way After MASH.
Even when I was a child, this was my favorite show
Frank: What's he got that I don't? Margaret: lips!
bought the DVD boxset, great TV
I also bought the DVD boxset and I don’t regret it
So did I.
Sir, thank you.
I love the show M*A*S*H*, all the actors, the portrayal, and the comedy. I did grow up with this show and unknown at the time, war would enter my life decades later. I lost my USMC Veteran brother to PTSD. There is work to be done, and I will be part of the solution.
Just read your comment & made me cry. So sorry for your pain & loss. MASH brought a lot of silly, serious, & so much more. But it is fiction. I lost my cousin many years ago to war also. 💔 Please accept my thanks on your brother's behalf & my condolences.
@@kayequinn7146 thank you Kaye, it means more than you know. This month is "Memorial May" for me......my brother passed on Mother's Day weekend. And when Memorial Day comes around, we are all emotionally exhausted.
@@-Cece your desire to be part of the solution is a wonderful legacy to your brother. Know that I & others stand with & support you & your family. 😉
Little known fact about radar, he has a deformed left hand that he keeps covered up as much as possible, you can sometimes catch a quick glimpse of his very tiny fingers. He’s always holding a clipboard or something. Hand in pocket etc.. I love him so much and he’s one of the best drummers to live!
Alan Alda is a star!!!
My favorite show
I loved MASH much better when it was more of a comedy. The first three seasons with Trapper and Henry are my favorites. Charles is the only replacement character who I think was as great as the original cast.
“Trapper” “I’m not going to talk until you stop screaming.”
BEST. SITCOM. EVER!!!
"Up, sir."
😅😅😅
I also loved the line is that Frank's back and Trapper Said I thought you were Frank's bag
Brilliant, magnificent Alan 💖
Yes I also Bought the entire MASH series:) well worth the money. Mash
Helped me through my teenage years ! Taught me what a real human being is :) my favourite!
“Frank’s Bag” lol 😂
i have seen it so many time yet i dont really know what it means.
How to be a real Human fault an all ! Accept people for who they are .Putting oatmeal in someone's shoe is funny
This was a great compilation of clips. Mako with the What the hell is that when Frank gave him that cricket looking gun made me lose it.
Whenever the show turned a little more dramatic you still got a few laughs.
The finale(TV movie) entitled Goodbye Farewell and Amen I asked my parents if I could stay up and watch it and they said yes.
One of the FUNNIEST SHOWS ON TV EVER.
What a magical scene! Mr Morgan was amazing
I HAVE WAITED SOOO LONG FOR THESE!!!!
Thank you for including the version of these clips WITHOUT THAT ANNOYING LAUGH TRACK, btw. (It should also be noted that none of them were inside the operating room, either.)
klinger always made my cry because of laughing .......... and still does
The final episode aired acouple months before I was born but I grew up watching reruns and thanks to Disney plus I'm getting to introduce my kids to this show.
Captain Tuttle, the best damned OD they ever had
For me, the best part of the whole series was when they notified Burns that he wasn't getting the 4077 as a permanent command!
His reactions were typical and the way the writers used it as Linwoods exit from the series was also typical of the Army , and funny as hell!
That was not Linwood's exit from the show. Frank was part of the cast for two more seasons.
TV On screen misses :Could they have been well acquainted in actual life?
Up sir! Best line ever.😅
Margaret: Good night.
Nurses: Good night, Major.
(pause)
Klinger: Good night, Major.
Margaret: Klinger! Out!
