Just wanted to say a huge thank you for this video. I've got a bedroom radiator that won't warm up. I bled it but made no difference. Found your brilliant video and it was a stuck TRV pin. I followed your advice got the pin loosed and bingo the radiator now heats up. I'm on a mega budget and you've saved me trying to find money I haven't got to call out an engineer. So thank you again 😊
thanks mate, i moved to Scotland recently and turns out it was freezing as radiator wouldnt work. control unit was stiff so did that and then after seeing you with the ecv i tried that, and it worked. brilliant. i loosedned the pin and now it works like a charm. i'd wake up at night from the cold but now im much less miserable up here
I watched this a few months ago but didn't have any troublesome radiators, just rewatched now with a problematic radiator and it worked a treat, thank you. 👏👍🏼
Hi, Just followed your advice and in 2 minutes I freed the pin inside the thermostatic valve and hey presto hot water again in the radiator. Many thanks you just saved me some money, I think your advice is first class. Nick
It was the pin! Life saver! Just moved across Europe in a new flat and landlady sent someone out who thought it was air in the pipe, "fixed" that end left saying it's fixed (it wasn't fixed)
👍 Never worked with a radiator before, but bedroom one in house never worked - thanks to this discovered it was a rusted TRV pin, will be using replacement video in future too - amazing stuff.
This is a great vid cheers mate!! I’ve had 2 cold radiators in my kitchen for ages and couldn’t get to the bottom of it… turns out the pins on the TRV valves were both stuck!! Gentle tap and wow!! Red hot in minutes! Cannot believe it! Subscribed!
Thank you so much, I am a woman on my own who has a freezing cold bedroom for just over a year, followed your advice with a gentle tap and wallah I now have a wonderful warm bedroom, plus I bled my lounge radiator which by the way had a lot of air in it to now having a full warm radiator 😊
I was going to call a plumber but watched your video first, am so glad I did because I’ve only gone and fixed it myself! Woohoo! Proper chuffed with myself! Thank you for the video, I’ve subscribed and gonna look through your library to see what else I can fix 😄
Good simple basic explanation. My hall radiator was not working and as the thermostat was just up the stairs the heating was unregulated. The input was hot but the radiator failed to respond until my wife said she would call a plumber and a few days later it worked perfectly! Possibly a small blockage which cleared itself. Seriously I had flushed a bedroom radiator last year and was amazed at the gunge which came out. I have put thermostatic valves on nearly all now and keep an eye on their condition. Presumably a Norfolk boy like myself.
Excellent tutorial. My living room radiator was warm at the top cold at the bottom after watching your video I rather nervously followed your instructions, and managed to drain, remove and flush it through and after re fitting and bleeding its working perfectly. Excellent work 👏 keep up your fantastic videos
Thanks so much for this. It was a trapped pin in mine. Really appreciate this. I’d spent the last 2 days bleeding all the radiators in the house. Then this video sorted it for me in 5 mins. Thanks again. You’re a star.
Thank you from a 73 year old ‘girl’ 😂This took less than 5minutes to fix. So easy! Can’t imagine how much it would have cost to call someone out. Subscribed. Thanks again!
Top man thank you, as a bloke with zero DIY abiities, simply giving the TVR valve a few taps got it working for me, the pin is pretty stuck though, as in it doesnt move up and down. But what was once a cold radiator is now fully hot! And the Mrs thinks I'm a genius.
Thank u soo much for this video, my bedroom radiator was stone cold. I tried doing what u suggested...removed the thermostat valve and pressed gently on TRV pin....and bingo...hot radiator!! Easy as that !! Thank u so much
Spent 39yrs whacking TRV Pins with my Gordon’s, screwdriver head. Never had a problem. Even had a Care home manager who whacked them with a Stilletto heal. Worked a treat. Happy days
Love the video and the many positive comments from those this worked for… I was hoping my issue was a TRV pin sticking but despite trying the press to release approach I’ve still got a hot pipe below the valve but an ice cold radiator the other side of the valve. Bled and no air and it’s a new radiator on a recently flushed system.
Hello, your explanation is really good and effectively worked. I saw more than 5 similar videos but you are the best among them. I just finished fixing my radiator by pulling out heat level packet, and by gently pushing it. Many thanks and good luck to you.
Thank you so much! I just came across your video as one of my radiators was stone cold - turns out it was a stuck pin that I was able to fix in a matter of minutes!
Really helpful guide to look out for if there is a problem with the radiator that the house holder can try before calling someone in to charge big money for something the home owner could do. Great tutorial guide and well compiled for ordinary people who would struggle to figure out a problem. I will have to rewatch this video a few more times to catch and more understand these hints. Especially which valve brings water in and which valve let's it out of rads and which way to turn valve to turn off or on the rad. Great job as usual to you and your great talent reaching out to ordinary people. Thank you so much
Stuck pin under the TRV was my issue, wee wiggle with the grips and off it went, for the record though the entire pipe from the floor into the valve was stone cold so you can't always tell from the inlet alone, just a note from my experience, I didn't have much hope for it being the pin but hey presto, we're back in action! Saved a call out!
Thank you for explaining so well, we took the thermostat off, gave a few pushes of the little pin valve. Hay presto we now have a hot radiator and saved ourselves £150 weekend call out fee
On older, non pressurized systems, its a good idea to turn the heating off before bleeding the radiators, as it is possibly to pull air in rather than release it. It's also a good idea to loosen off the actuator head in the summer. If the pin is stuck, you can often free it by using a pair of pliers to gently ease it up, not pulling up and pulling the pin right out. Heating engineers love TRVs, as it's a good earner going around changing them. I would never have one in my house.
Thanks. Had two stone radiators. Watched two of your videos. Balanced them all and then discovered the two cold radiators had their thermostat pins stuck. A gentle tap or two released them. Hot radiators again. Happy days. Cheers.
On one of my radiators the bleed valve opening is facing the wall and goes all over my wallpaper. Is there a way of altering the direction of where the bleed valve opening faces? Many thanks for your great tips.
Thank you! Your video led me to diagnose a sticky pin in the thermostatic valve! It had completely blocked the flow through the radiator. Fixed now. 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you, I knew it was debris that was causing my cold radiator and I knew it needed to be flushed but had no idea how to do it. Did it all in less than an hour with my partner and we can't wait to be able to sit in our living room without blankets and jumpers.
Great video! Recently moved to the UK from a tropical country where heating is not needed so Im not familiar at all with all the system. Been over a month with one cold radiator and no clue on how to fix it but it took just 3 minutes after I watched this video to make it work again!! Very thankful with the DIY guy and you've just gained a new subscriber!
Cheers matey, followed your expert advice, it was the TRV pin stuck. My only prob was removing said TRV head, it was a different collar/ make, I used grips and it came off. Hope I have not broken it. Hell of a job to put it back, so at the minute have left it off and will have another go tomorrow. Sure enoug applied downward pressure to the pin and it released, radiator toasty now. Thanks alot, have already subscribed as I do like your format and also the tools you use. Cheers.

Great vid man thanks. I have a cold radiator and checked to see if it was a stuck pin but there is no warmth coming through the pipe to begin with. Any idea?
I have the same issue (although no TRV) in that there is not heat to either pipe - do wee assume therefore its a smudge build up blocking the input pipe ?
Great Video my rad in the hallway was stone cold couldn’t remove the TRV it’s been on 20 + years so in frustration 1 very cold night I gave the side of the valve a few thumps with my rolling pin did the trick and instant heat 😊
Just a little tip that may help with the stuck TRV ..shut the lockshield valve now open bleed valve, now the system pressure is pushing on the TRV should now find it easier to release . Also should mention if bleeding the radiators and especially with a combi boiler the pressure would need checking after as if it falls to low the boiler will shut down . Always enjoy your videos tho 👏

Problem is that “small job”, needs an experienced engineer to sort for you or you’d easily do it yourself. Vans run on fuel, they cost to insure, public liability to pay for etc. £85 minimum I charge for something local like that. You are paying for experience not time. Customers think it’s expensive because they think you’ve only been here 10 mins. Then they think we are ripping them off, but we are not. If you are a self employed plumber you’ll realise quickly the reason why we don’t go to “small jobs”.
@@Metal05 the problem is not the price. I've had plumbers give me exorbitant fees for a small job and I said sure, when can you come by, and all I get is silence after that.
