Future Trunks, Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Krillin(to an extent) and even 18 had their moments in Super. GT did nothing for them besides fodder them out to the main villains and Piccolo had like 3 seconds of screen time before dying pointlessly.

I like GT, but it has its important flaws: 1. Goku is the only character that gets to shine. 2. It's way too rushed; there are 64 episodes, and I think that just the Universal Survival Saga in DB Super features more than 70. 3. Z/Manga ending showed the rise of Uub as a new hope for a younger generation of heroes, but he was sidelined pretty soon.
Yea, they hyped up Majuub so much just for him to immediately lose. Like the concept of Uub refusing with Buu to become some super human being with the candy ray is amazing, but they executed it poorly by having him be borderline irrelevant almost immediately. A slap in the face to the fans honestly.

Same thing with Shenron, but other than the main fights the overall show isn't as captivating (we ain't talking about the finale of course, that was a master piece). Personally I kind of know the whole story but I have never watched GT for the same reason, it doesn't captivate me that much. @@Nobodyfrom2003 You should watch it before making an opinion like that. Cause I'll say, as a kid I loved it all. As an adult the first arc can be boring for sure. But the rest of GT was fun to watch. Minus a few of the darkstar dragon episodes but not every single episode of Dragon Ball or Z is very entertaining as an adult either. It definitely had a faster pace, which was something everyone cried about DBZ was the slow pacing of charging up and screaming. I'd bet GT has a higher ratio of fighting than any other DB saga/franchise. If you watch it all too you'll see how DB super just stole so many ideas from GT, as well as the movies. For example Full Power SSJ4 was done with 3 saiyans. Same fashion as when Goku got SSJG. In GT they did it twice, against Bebi and then again to face Syn Shenron.

Yup. Thats cus GT had consquences. In Super everything resets at the end of every storyline so it jist feels like nothing has progressed character wise besides for some new different colored hair.
I'd really like them to incorporate SS4 into Gohan's Beast transformation. Like what if Beast is just the tip of the iceberg & then the final form looks like SS4? That would be so cool. Edit: To be clear, I don't want this hypothetical transformation to be THE SS4, I just think the look of SS4 was cool & to see something inspired by it would be awesome. SS4 was one of the best things to come out of GT & it seems a shame to lose it. But I also don't think they should rip off the look of SS4 wholesale. Maybe change a few things, like the color scheme & keep Gohan's Beast hair. But that's just my opinion.
@@KDizzy6SSJ4 can’t happen because SSJ3 alone is was too strenuous on their physical bodies and drains too much energy. Goku uses SSJG and Blue but doesn’t use SSJ3. SSJ4 would practically be pointless and useless… although I did love SSJ4 in GT, the design for it was amazing too!

The end of The Dragon Ball Manga and DBZ anime also can't be canon anymore either. Timeline wise. Because for starters, everyone knows pan and the Z fighters clearly have passed the point of "not seeing each other for 10 years". And the Moro arc brought in Uub.

Whoa whoa whoa. Akira Toriyama was directly involved with the first season of GT. He oversaw the entire production of the show! In fact, he gave the series the okay before ANY idea was allowed to be made. Akira Toriyama even NAMED the show GT for Grand Tour. Toriyama has gone on record and stated that the SSJ4 transformation was his favorite design of Goku, even though he didn’t make it. So it’s not like he wasn’t around. Ssj4 was an actually creative transformation for the saiyans that I hope they do more with instead of changing hair colour. Honestly what they did with Freiza in super makes me sad. He started off with a bunch of cool transformations, literally changing his body as he got stronger but with super it's just pallet swaps.
More screentime for other characters was definitely needed, but having all the other characters kinda give up fighting is the whole point of living in peace. Ever since Dragonball Goku's lifestyle always outlasts everyone else's involvement in fighting against Evil. I personally believe Vegeta would definitely settle down, especially after The Buu Crisis
Bro you’re completely correct, it’s Universe 3, when TOP happened it was a Robot that looked like Lord Luud from GT, when I researched and compared characters from GT to Universe 3 they’re the same robot/android characters. Lhfh and people still talking bad about GT when they just follow hype but don’t even pay attention to details.
THANK YOU! About time someone pointed out that BS comparison. Heck, anime is known for often having limited budgets and time constraints, so comparing a movie to a show in terms of animation is stupid.
Yeah, Janenba movie has much more animation quality than regular Z. GT's animation is amazing, I think it's probably the best animation style for a shonen in the 90's. I loved it when it was featured in other movies like the GT movies.
Toriyama was involved in GT. He even did the character model for the famous mustached Vegeta. To my knowledge he was not a part of the story, also one of the reasons I think GT feel flat was there was no manga that it was based off of. I just always get a laugh when people say toriyama was not involved. Because he definitely was. I know GT is the black sheep but I have my love for it.
People often don’t like definitive endings. FYI: just like DBS it later did get a Manga. It’s really funny when you cut out the basic first arc plot hole involving the black star balls (the og nameless namekian doesn’t exist anymore and the current variant isn’t even a dragon clan member, so they shouldn’t in anyway be active.) the series followed closer to the DB & DBZ’s plot formula then DBS really the biggest difference between the OG series and Gt is just being significantly shorter. 1.) A new audience stand-in for GT it was Pan for Z it was Gohan. 2.) A new danger that involves a new set of Dragon balls 3.) Something happens to Goku. Etc..
Not having a manga saved it from having filler. When folks say it was rushed that's only because they're used to filler episodes that do nothing for the story.
Toriyama aalso said that GT is canon. It is an alternate timeline. I wish people would stop this false narrative of it not being canon and toriyama not being involved

Dragon ball GT had an amazing story, it gave a actual consequence to using the dragon balls, and even added an enemy that vegeta caused to come back for revenge. And to top it all off it actually ended with a somber yet hope filled note, it’s very underrated in my opinion.
Stop it right there with those rose tinted glasses. No no no, GT didn't have an amazing story. It had half of a good story and a third of a well executed one. Yes, Baby was awesome, so is SSJ4 for many people that aren't me (I just can't with red fur but I digress), and the concept behind the shadow dragons was really neat to close out the series. But that's only a fraction of GT, that show is also the black star dragon balls which were created and then fumbled around with for about 11 of the worst episodes in DB history, only to be shoved aside in favor of Baby. It's also the Super 17 mini arc with its completely broken mechanics and a fight where Goku was legit dumber than DBS Goku with all the non-sense ki spam. And as much as the shadow dragons were cool in concept, 4 of them were total time wasters and the final one was trying desperately to match 17 in terms of non-sense. So no, while GT has many good things about it, an amazing story certainly isn't one of them when you take all 60+ episodes into account.
@omega7057 GT first atc would've been soooo much better if Trunks goku and goten went to space. They wasted pan's potential and then gave a sidekick and SIDEKICK.
It may not be cannon, but there was a lot of care and love for the lore of the series. Also, with Toriyama admitting he forgets about his own stuff all the time (a possible case of early onset dementia) he is not capable of producing quality cannon for the sheer fact he cannot even remember where the story is at and all the things that preceeded it
SSJ4 should be the most powerful form they have. Saiyans at their core are battle hungry apes, and ssj4 is the embodiment of that. It brings them back to their roots and I love that so much. Toriyama needs to bring this back, make it even better, then have each from of ssj build on top of this. That would be much better than the rainbow transformations we're getting today.
You think space monke should be more powerful than actual Divinity? I love ssj4 but as a concept, divine forms deserve their spot as their most powerful form, their designs just suck.
I agree but they lost that whole path with the God stuff. It's just silly imo. Ssj4 had a cooler path where you found power in your roots, not turning into a God Also goku was way serious and ready to use his power in ssj4 compared to any other transformation
@@phoebusapollo8365 Because logically ssj4 makes way more sense to the actual saiyan biology than god powers. IF ANYTHING, this could be a great segway to their own form of divinity. But DBS completely abandons the very foundation that DB and DBZ set up. Almost everything we know about saiyans, their biology, their nature, who they are as warriors and how they obtain strength, means absolutely nothing in Super.
Actually, Toriyama had artistic involvement when they were starting the show. He gave them some designs to work with. Not to mention his stamp of approval. Dragonball has multiple canons, dude. No official has ever made a statement against GT's favor & it appears one will never be made. It's all been toxic fans. Super & GT are in the same boat as Toei's continuations of Dragonball. Hell, Super is even more of a mess as 2 canons... the manga & anime are too different from each other to be considered the same thing. And I'm not even putting Moro or Gas in the equation yet. Those who hate GT are those who refuse it out of it not being Super / the current thing or are just following a majority. Much like how you are told as a child to hate things because everyone else round you hates them.
@ThatOneGuy420 The words Canon & Continuity are almost interchangeable. They're connected concepts. Plus, when you say "only one canon"... Which version of Super are you tossing in the wind? I don't think you thought your response through before posting. The best way to look at it is that the Toei Anime Canon is multiple canons. Then you can have your Manga Canon. I look at Dragonball from the big picture approach with sound logic that can be supported by good evidence/research. I was originally one that moved on to "Super Only" but I learned that was the wrong way to approach the franchise because that's not the way the officials approach it.
I rewatched gt recently and you can't tell me with a straight face that Gt was good. Here's why. The first arc is legit just hunting dragon balls again which is cool since trunks replaced Bulma as the smart one who's tech savvy, but they leave out goten. The whole luud storyline switches villains several times for no reason and even the show producers themselves said they found the story boring while working on it. That and they could've just used the regular dragon balls and wished the black ones back to earth instantly. Baby arc was great. Lots of mystery and him coming to earth was very interesting. Super 17 comes and literally every character not Goku is useless as well as having endless cameos of characters who don't do anything like nappa. We didn't even get raditz to see Goku again lmao The shadow dragons are all defeated by plot holes except ice. It's literally an asspull everytime one is beaten and you don't notice this until you marathon the saga. The ending is amazing but the ride there was bumpy as fuck. It's got 1 good arc out of 4 and the rest was trash. Super Saiyan 4 should be brolys new default transformation though. Since he has the yellow eyes.
@@CelticVizard Theyre not the same though. DB Manga + DB Minus + Jaco Galactic Patrolman + DBS Toriyama notes + Toriyama Movie Scripts are canon. Then everything else is in other continuities

I think it's 100% acceptable that Goku is the main light in the show, and the other characters are sidelined. It's just the canon thing let's be honest. People have an aneurysm anytime they see something they deem "non canon" which is bizarre to me. The worst thing about GT is that it's just boring as all hell. Say what you will about super, but it rarely if ever bores you in the same way GT did/does
Even if the writing pisses you off you’re still not bored of what you’re seeing. GT had like 4 major arcs and the only things people remember are Super Saiyan 4, the Shadow Dragons, and Baby. @gabrielchastain6091 I mean, it kinda did though? Every arc past the beginning of black-star dragon ball arc was pretty fight centric and were just fluffing out the run time by having characters like pan stand around for a few minutes to monolog
He was underutilized not unworthy and it’s just happened to be that he was definitely punching above his weight class dealing with Baby Vegeta, Majuub definitely is powerful make no mistake but SS4 was just clearly stronger he definitely would’ve been helpful dealing with the shadow dragons if he was written to be involved
GT actually got a ton right with character designs and villains, but it has a glaring fault where basically none of the characters except Goku were really relevant for 90% of the series. We hardly see any of Goten and Trunks, and they never progress past SSJ1 nor fuse in the series at all. Gohan loses his Ultimate form and basically is never featured. Pan is extremely whiny and never achieves any sort of relevant power. Despite being featured a ton her only major contribution is help Goku regain consciousness as a Golden Great Ape. They make a big deal about Uub's potential and Buu's sacrifice to help him become Majuub, yet his only contribution was literally powering up in Baby's stomach for a few seconds to distract him. He becomes completely irrelevant after that. Super is far from perfect as well, but it did do a much better job of making other characters more relevant (except Trunks and Goten still 😕).

For me it’s pan and will always be how they chose pan over Goten her character was annoying. It was a plot device to make Goku look cool saving her so many times
I'm sorry what? Name every time Goku saved Pan. Also do you know what a plot device even is? The dragon balls are a plot device. The plot device of the first saga was the Black Star dragon balls, then it became Baby. The plot device of the second saga was Hell fighter 17. The third plot device was the dragon balls/dark dragons. A plot device is something that moves the plot along.
With each generation a new youth seems to take the role In og it was goku In half of z it was gohan In buu it was goten At the end it was Uub In gt it was Pan Super oddly seems to be missing this but then again i know why its because goku has been regressed to the intelligence far below his og dragon ball self so i guess he is the youth of super So it still fits
Well to be honest sidelining the other characters much for 60 episodes isn’t so bad when most of dbz is revolved around the side characters since goku is mostly seen with the Kai’s in other world and bare in mind that’s about 290 or so episodes if you’re watching Z. He only comes back during conflict. So it sorta evens itself out. What I think me and most other fans wanna see is either a new season to super with a more polished storyline or at least a proper saga with trunks and goten that would be so dope.
It will always be a nostalgic classic for me seeing as it was released in the 90s/early 2000s and i would come home from skl to watch it on toonami. The artwork, the time it came out, it all makes it still a great memory. And we got to see ssj4 which we all know looked fucking sick especially when they did fusion.
I had this weird experience where something about GT made it very hard for me to sit and watch. Idk if it was the streaming quality or what. But I eventually attempted to revisit the series and whatever it wss has gone.
@@Focusquick I seen it on toonami as a kid it was fine. But I missed a lot of it so I tried watching it on funimation a number of years back. I was a young adult then. And that was when it has something with the streaming.

Pretty sure Toriyama had a decent amount of involvement with character design and overall story, just not as much as the past series or super, I wouldn’t say that justifies it as “Non-Canon” rather, it’s fans claiming it’s non canon due to its flaws which super has its own flaws so I’d say that’s a bit of hypocrisy. In my opinion, anything directly made by Toriyama, Bandai, and Toei involving dragon ball is canon but the canonicity of each series isn’t directly connected to one another to fit its own story/ideas.

SSJ4 should be the most powerful form they have. Saiyans at their core are battle hungry apes, and ssj4 is the embodiment of that. It brings them back to their roots and I love that so much.

We didn't even get raditz to see Goku again lmao
The shadow dragons are all defeated by plot holes except ice.

Some good designs dont make a good show. No character developmemt all side characters forgotten with only goku in the spotlight. Uub gohan vegeta pan were barely given attention.
SS4 was the only good thing Abt GT....really grasping for straws
I watched it when i was young and i truly enjoyed it. I later watched it over after if grew up and I still enjoyed the show.
Facts GT made sense to me
I think the first arc was a bit boring when I rewarched it. But Super 17 and on it was a blast.
Goku being shunk was stupid though
@@tristan7844 yeah I lke GT and definitely agree. Same with leaving Goten and Gohan behind. If GT made Gohan, Trunks, Goten and Pan the mains it would have been epic. The next generation picking up a galactic journey to turn them into real warriors where Goku and Vegeta cant just save them.
I’m one of the few that actually loved GT. I really liked how it was dark and sinister especially the Baby and Super Android 17 arcs.
I watched GT when it first aired and loved it. And the character designs were a good progression considering the amount of time that passed between GT and DBZ.
You can apply all of these points to dragon ball super
And Dragon Ball/Z 💀
Not really.
It is canon for one.
Two, lots of other characters get to shine. Master Roshi got episodes dedicated to him, future trunks go a whole arc, 17 was a very important character, and even Yamacha got a filler episode, it’s not much but honesty it’s the most he’s gotten in so, so long.
As for the animation, while sometimes it can be bad, during important fights it can look absolutely stunning, and that’s not even mentioning the movies. Whereas I can’t rember a single thing about any of the GT fights
@@samueloak1600dragon ball z was awesome..the buu saga was kinda wack though
By far, Dragon Ball Super has been on the top notch same as the Dragon Ball Z.
How can you include Dragon Ball Super with the GT which is a crap in itself making Goku a child and at the end Goku accepts being a child permanently
@@rockstarji21well these days the cannon of super is also very questionable according to the writer themselves
Gt had some of the best characters or transformations.
Just SS4
Best characters? All of them became irrelevant and garbage and you call it best? Wut?
It had one good transformation in my opinion, Ssj4. Golden Great Ape was alright, Baby's forms were cool, but I only found the final one to be memorable. Omega Shenron was barely a transformation. As for characters, most are just not interesting to me, like Giru, Valese, Mutchy, Para Brothers, Rilldo, and more.

@@philbertcewl1189 keep telling ur self that _💀_
But we true Dragon Ball fans never hated any DB show cuz GT is one of them and it's still my personal favourite ❤ 🎉
I think it's 100% acceptable that Goku is the main light in the show, and the other characters are sidelined. When I watched it it reminded me of the OG Dragonball, where it was a journey to get the 7 dragonballs, but it had so much stronger, and fiercer opponents, with all the transformations Goku has. Its like this "what if the original Dragonball was cranked straight to 100" it definitely has its flaws, and I have no idea if that was the intention of the show, but I really liked it for that reason
Also, that's why I think it's a good reason that Goku is the main light, cause that's how it was during the OG Dragonball.
@@gittattlethat’s just it people seemed to either never read the actual manga or was only introduced through the Z anime and honestly have forgotten or never knew just how the story started in the first place a young girl meet a wild young boy and after forming a bond began searching for objects that can grant a wish that simple beginning laid the foundation of what we have now with all the side stories and all this is Goku’s story and it was only through high demand that the Buu Saga, GT and Super ever became a thing with Goku as the focus again

GT is canon so is ss4
Well, the end made me cry, so yes , it’s a good anime
Gotta love how when people compare animation in dragonball z they show a feature length animated film that was made with a huge team of animators that work on it for years and its compared to a episode of an anime that is animated in around a week and has a significantly smaller team
THANK YOU! About time someone pointed out that BS comparison. Heck, anime is known for often having limited budgets and time constraints, so comparing a movie to a show in terms of animation is stupid.
I feel like goku wasn't in the spotlight, it was actually the villains since they got even more screentime, wether it be just their followers or them themselves, then goku and then the side plot character

SSJ4 still the coolest design, period
The worst about gt was that Vegeta had to transform with the help of a machine. The Vegeta we know would never transform without working hard for it. His pride wouldn't allow it
Thats that even the problem, why wouldn't they allow the prince to achieve this transformation! Name himself king? But instead he gets taking over......this was trash.
Uhhhh what did he want the dragon balls for then and on top of that he went to babidi for power
@@LowkeyShiestywas just about to say that. He turned evil remember how Majin Buu was even introduced
Dude, the point of the machine was that he got over his pride and was willing to accept help from his loved ones to become stronger. It seems like you unironically like DBS regressing his character to his Cell saga days.
@@GMP1isRealEXACTLY, man got over his pride. put down his inferiority complex over dear ol kakarot. and stopped fussing over dumbass fusing. bro had grown up
When Tien's last memorable moment was back in the Cell arc (we got Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, Universe 6, Goku Black, ToP, Moro and now Granola arc, not counting Broly since it makes sense why he doesn't appear), Yamcha, Chaozu and other characters got sidelined a lot in "the canon stuff", it's weird that only GT gets criticised for it.
Baby arc, super 17,sherons dragons all were amazing and ss4 to this day is the dopest super sayian transforms
People who hate it because of it not being canon then they just hating. Who cares if it’s canon or not. All the marvel and Dc stories aren’t canon. Yeah gt got some ups and downs like any anime we love but don’t claim that as the reason and then people put love into ssj4 which would be dumb. I like ssj4 but I’m not a real heavy fan of it like I don’t really care for ssjg and blue but hey their canon so yeah. But none of these really a issue besides DRing
I loved GT. I have it all on VHS lol
sell me the collection??
@@ROKTTakeOff nope
From my experience GT became more beloved after Super’s arc, which I’m guessing had to do with the transformations and villain designs. Omega Shenron was such a good idea for a final villain in my opinion. I like him a lot more than Jiren.
Toei doesn't 100% care about canon. I personally think GT takes place in an alternate timeline where the Z movies occur.

Shame on Bulla for making Vegeta shave his glorious mustache. It takes years for a Saiyan to grow even a little bit of facial hair. F for our bro 😢
It's just the canon thing let's be honest. People have an aneurysm anytime they see something they deem "non canon" which is bizarre to me. Especially when it is 100% canon to the series as the true ending for the original anime run.

The team behind GT had some strong ideas, they just took too long to find their footing and execute on them well. By the time they did the damage was already done.
We need to canonize this
Personally I loved it and wish it would continue
The worst thing about GT is that it's just boring as all hell. Say what you will about super, but it rarely if ever bores you in the same way GT did/does
Bro, Super literally takes stuff from dbz and db and just makes it worse
Even if the writing pisses you off you’re still not bored of what you’re seeing. GT had like 4 major arcs and the only things people remember are Super Saiyan 4, the Shadow Dragons, and Baby. Even when going over the story of GT people forget that General Rildo and Super 17 were even main villains with their own respective arcs
@@MikatheVoidStar and gt takes things og dragon ball and makes it worse it's pretty clear they were trying to make it more like the original group dyamic of kid goku, balma and yamacha but replace bulma and yamacha with trunks and pan
both super and GT have there high points can we please stop with comparing them it really depends on preference which u think is better
I imagine the boring is because gt actually took some time to show goku and them doing things that didnt involve fighting all the damn time
@gabrielchastain6091 I mean, it kinda did though? Every arc past the beginning of black-star dragon ball arc was pretty fight centric and were just fluffing out the run time by having characters like pan stand around for a few minutes to monolog
I hate that Uub was irrelevant. He was clearly supposed to be the true successor of Goku, but he proved himself unworthy.
I loved the SSJ4 transformation and the fact that they wrote in consequences for over using the dragon balls
While I agree the animation isn't as consistent you can't compare a TV anime to an Anime movie for quality
THANK YOU! About time someone pointed out that BS comparison. Heck, anime is known for often having limited budgets and time constraints, so comparing a movie to a show in terms of animation is stupid.
I loved GT
As a wise man once said:
“GT stands for goku time”
SSJ4...Still bad ass and wish there were more of it!
Oh no, brothers look alike without things that make them look different. How can we recover from this 😢😢
Such a stupid thing to complain about isn't it 😂, people are such little cry baby's. The brothers look alike, oh booohooo, people are pathetic man.
With each generation a new youth seems to take the role
In og it was goku
In half of z it was gohan
In buu it was goten
At the end it was Uub
In gt it was Pan
Super oddly seems to be missing this but then again i know why its because goku has been regressed to the intelligence far below his og dragon ball self so i guess he is the youth of super
So it still fits
Well to be honest sidelining the other characters much for 60 episodes isn’t so bad when most of dbz is revolved around the side characters since goku is mostly seen with the Kai’s in other world and bare in mind that’s about 290 or so episodes if you’re watching Z. He only comes back during conflict. So it sorta evens itself out. What I think me and most other fans wanna see is either a new season to super with a more polished storyline or at least a proper saga with trunks and goten that would be so dope.
This is such a good point, Goku is barely in Dragon Ball Z, it was refreshing to then have him take the focus for the ending of the overall story.
How old were you when you watched it?
@@Focusquick I seen it on toonami as a kid it was fine. But I missed a lot of it so I tried watching it on funimation a number of years back. I was a young adult then. And that was when it has something with the streaming.
They did Goten's forehead dirty bro 💀
At least GT put more thought into the Super Saiyan 4 designs and didn't turn Goku into him a moron
This is basically the commentators view. Most of us especially original fans actually don’t have too many issues with GT😂
GT tried to find that balance between the epic large scale fights & sci-fi elements of Z with the exploration and character development of the original DB. I dug it
Pretty sure Toriyama had a decent amount of involvement with character design and overall story, just not as much as the past series or super, I wouldn’t say that justifies it as “Non-Canon” rather, it’s fans claiming it’s non canon due to its flaws which super has its own flaws so I’d say that’s a bit of hypocrisy. In my opinion, anything directly made by Toriyama, Bandai, and Toei involving dragon ball is canon but the canonicity of each series isn’t directly connected to one another to fit its own story/ideas. I don’t think that’s hard to accept or think about as Hero’s has nice content although we all know it has a lot of fan service but it has a real story that’s gone on for awhile. Idk I’m just rambling I think but you get the point
Finally an intellectual
It was awesome on Toonami.
Good things about GT: SSJ4 Goku/Vegeta, SSJ4 Gogeta
Bad things about GT: Not canon, Goku becomes a kid, Goten and Trunks are still SSJ1, Goten and Trunks don’t fuse into Gotenks
Many people forget. Toriama intended to end dragon ball on planet namic. The death of Friza and the transformation of Goku into a super saiyan. Was supposed to be the end.
