The West's barking is very beautiful, especially on the issue of human rights
I don't think USA has a great human rights record..
Saudi Arabia wants to invest $5 billion in Indian premier league or ipl which is valued at $30 billion.
Glad to see your sub numbers have grown quite a bit over the last 1.5 yrs!
These questions are almost always posed like they are mutually exclusive answers. It seems to me that it’s both sports washing and economic. All decisions come with risks and going into sports comes with risks but those risks are further reduced if Saudis put additional value in good publicity (the washing of sports washing). Additionally, the sports washing helps them bring other businesses so sports washing is not just for geopolitical reasons but economic reasons
KSA's GDP in 2022 was 1.1 trillion USD. 1% of that is 11 billion. There's no way football + other sports in KSA can bring that much money. What exactly is KSA producing here, there's no foreign investment, no tourists, no TV rights deals, no profits. Ronaldo's earnings alone are 200M Euros and the league as a whole spends much more on transfers, paying mostly to European clubs. A few players even want to leave after 1-2 years in KSA and the only outgoing transfer I've heard about is some Saudi player to Roma for 2M Euros... KSA is bleeding money on football.
Up until a few years ago China tried something similar for like 5 years and it went pretty bad, they are not buying players, nor paying big salaries anymore. I don't know if it helped them develop their domestic league & players.
Ronaldo & Messi advertise tourism and support KSA hosting FIFA WC. Those 2 people support foreign countries instead of their own, lol. Argentina & Uruguay wanted to host 2030 FIFA World Cup, but instead it went to Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
Messi advertises KSA, not ARG...
P. S. I've seen many complaints that @Uptin uses wrong maps, lol. Put in a bit more effort mate.
Saudi Prince is smart, ever since he started running Saudi , he changed so many laws and quick, his father was old school, UAE their neighbor country did the same 20 years ago and look they are more ahead in global scale than saudi... its not immoral.. its going to be the next hub and now they allow people to travel back then you cant evn travel their country
Not his father, but his uncle...
His father just reign in 2015 and immedietely named MBS as a new crownprince bcz he believe in MBS vision
"Improve its image"
Very interesting choice of phrase
He has to be diplomatic.
Another interesting video, thx, Mr. Uptin. Sportswashing is obviously a mixed bag. Plenty of money for sports and spectacle can be fun and contribute to the economy, attracting tourists and investors. On the other hand, as you said, it can be used to distract from all kinds of human rights abuses, such as harsh prison sentences for relatively minor infractions. Forget about freedom of speech, there are plenty of journalists in prison who are also mistreated. Khashoggi is just the type of the iceberg. But you could also argue that the grievances in KSA are so well-documented that they are not really able to fool anyone in the Internet age. To be certain, many international stars of any kind become sellouts, pocketing huge sums and turning a blind eye to all the abuses. But the rest of the world knows exactly what's happening so - I know I'm being provocative here - perhaps it doesn't really matter that much in the long run? A mafia boss throwing money around is still a mafia boss after all. (Unlike you, I have no plans to visit KSA, so I can afford to be undiplomatic.) In any case, we're looking forward to more insightful videos from you. Best wishes!
Thanks for the support 🫶
What’s Human Right?
Money for the poor
Human Rights- An excuse used by USA and its minions to interfere in other countries internal matters* by virtue signalling using MSM.
⚽️ is the most popular sport in saudi 🇸🇦 in the last 100 years
It appears to be!
I want to work in Neom!
Great project!
Qatar will also host FIBA 2027.
What is FIBA?
@@arbaz79 I guess female useless basketball tournament
Has this sports washing helped Saudi Arabi in the long run? I can see sports washing helping a country bury a recent incident like what Russia did in the Sochi Olympics, but long term I can see it backfire.
It's actually about tourism because look at Qatar, no one even knew that country and no one ever talked about it's human rights until they had the world cup, There was nothing for them to sport wash because no one knows them.
its desperation
It is good

Why West accuses Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 🇸🇦 🇸🇦?
Who defines value?
They pay very low wages to ordinary workers although they could easily afford to pay them more. That's just mean.
@@ToyTiger666 believe me having homeless citizens is just much meaner 😂.
Homelessness rate in the gulf countries is close to 0%. You cant just decide which country needs to subjected to closer inspection and which countries have a pass free ticket. Every country has its own issues and as long as there are initiatives to improve those issues then the country is headed to the right way.
@@Msq1995not when workers.. especially women become r worded and pray they don't get pregnant... because they don't want gene mixing or the controversy so they'll just get rid of the woman. Imagine clocking in and never knowing if you'll come back home to your family
@abdulhameedqashqary1477 Asking questions like "who defines value" is just an evasion maneuver to avoid pertinent criticism. It is well-known that foreign workers are exploited in the Gulf States under the kafala system. For Saudi citizens, harsh prison sentences, like 20 years 4 a protest are also quite disproportionate. Many Saudis would also agree if open reporting and open criticism were allowed.
In Western countries, homelessness is usually due to mental illness and drug addiction, not poverty. Authoritarian regimes have a hard time acknowledging such problems. Officially, homelessness in KSA is 0%. But unofficially, it exists, of course. Human rights activist Zac Alrayyis, e.g., writes on Quora:
I'm quite shocked to see how many people here seem to think there's no homelessness in Saudi Arabia. The claim is boldly outlandish but does probably align with the state narrative. It's true that family structures and subsidized housing contribute a great deal to keeping it under control and the issue of homeless citizens specifically is not as pronounced as in most places, but just take a walk down a major street in any major Saudi city and you'll see beggars from all different backgrounds, increasingly Yemeni refugees, but Saudi citizens as well, and at night it's not hard to find people sleeping in a park or street. What they do with them depends on who they are. One could get referred to their family, be provided subsidized housing, detained, or deported in case of refugees.
There is no free speech in KSA. If you try to criticize the government for anything, they are quick to silence you. It is not beneath them to lock up and torture journalists. If you type, e.g.
human rights violation in Saudi Arabia
into a search engine, the Saudi government will censor the results. If you use a VPN to access blocked contents, that's illegal.
Authoritarian regimes have a strong tendency to sweep all kinds of social problems and grievances under the rug. But it does not mean they don't exist.
Saudi Arabia is the third richest country in Middle East
So? Are they inventing something and what’s their contribution to the world other than selling oil?
@Brightlight-bd9jcfirst of all I am a person not a country and I hope you know the difference
My contribution is that I am an engineer and contributing to the country’s economy I live in unlike what Saudi Arabia is doing
Obviously you jumped on the defensive side given the country is muslim.
@Brightlight-bd9jccan you list Saudi Arabia contributions ?
@Brightlight-bd9jc provide aid to muslim countries only so thank you for nothing
@Brightlight-bd9jc I am a person not a country. It looks you don’t understand the difference between the two
Please disclose any sponsorships of this video... Seen a lot of saudi NEWS washing lately
Please change the thumbnail Uptin bro. The Saudi flag contains the Shahadah, the testimony of faith, which is a very sacred statement for all Muslims. I’ll say their flag design is kinda problematic because these days flags are designed and depicted in many different forms and while the American Stars & Stripes on a ball might be a kitschy souvenir, the placing of those sacred words from the Saudi flag on such objects is offensive to Muslims.

Sportwashing is cool
Bro you from iran 😂
Love your new setting studio with the microphone, you are doing a wonderful jog, Congratulations :)
Always love changing the scene!
KSA is of course fascinating because they spend a lot of money on luxuries and expensive buildings. Nas Daily announced that he had changed his mind on KSA, and raved about it for the full 4 min. of his recent video. Very one-sided. The problem is that a lot, perhaps even most of these grand projects are approved without a feasibility study. So they're basically doomed from the start. There are many videos pointing out, e.g., the shortcomings of NEOM/The Line. That's just not how cities work.
