    ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

g'day sheepfans. Today, admittedly inspired by The Sheep Game, i went to watch the sheering and wool handling at a local show. It was plenty interesting and exciting but only since I now understand a little from watching Cammy. I was also proud to recognise some breeds. Anyways - time to watch the Vid 😊

I’m really impressed by the “pocket” shearing machine. I’ve never seen one before! Where did you get it? It’s the coolest thing ever! BTW, prices crashed here as well last fall. Another great video! Love the sheep, who are naturally the stars of the show…I’m in thee middle of breeding season and have a slow mo ram that I have to back up with another who I wasn’t planning on using. It might be time for him to go to market but he’s a 162kg ram that gives us enormous lambs…usually 45kg by week six for weaning. He’s actually practically a pet for 10 months of the year (only dangerous during breeding season)

Always appreciate that you are positive when others would be whining and moaning. You can't control lamb prices, best not to mither about things beyond one's control. I always say if you keep your flock healthy the lambs others would have lost, that you'll have to sell, can make up the difference in a small drop in prices.

Last year our lambs brought over $3.00/lb. This year prices are around $2.00/lb for prime lambs. I am holding mine until the weather turns colder and the Muslims start cooking more. Feed prices are higher this year so a lot of producers are shipping lambs early. Large runs of lambs at the sale barns. Hopefully that means less lambs available in December. Price drops a lot after 90-100lbs so it is a tricky marketing situation.

Agreed. Don't see lamb sold often in stores and when it is it is very expensive. To get it at a restaurant, you usually have to go to a Middle Eastern establishment. Just like goat is found at Hispanic restaurants.

@@fprintf When mad cow was prevalent, I had to lie to the blood bank about going to the UK as they wouldn't take your blood. I didn't eat beef while there though, so minor untruth. I had no qualms about eating the British beef (my mom did) but made the omission easier for me.

Lamb is a *very* pricey meat here in the U S. 'Bout the only time the price is near reasonable is around Easter/Passover/Pesach. Also during the livestock sales at county fairs. (I splurged & bought some lamb chops *many* years ago. O-M-G were they good! Melt-in-your-mouth tender! Well worth the $10/lb!)

Does the mart give you the 70p when you do belly shearing at the mart? The thing I thought strange at our mart was that the bellies were shorn but the clags on the back end ignored. I am reminded of the crafty old farmer I noticed pushing on his stick as hard as he could on the weighing scales. You could have blown him away like a feather so I doubt if he gained an advantage. I think my anticipation on the mart vids is over the price.

Hi Wendy. The boys at Ayr get 60p a lamb. Mart needs something to cover wool disposal and staff to push sheep up.

@@TheSheepGame I just had a thought, I used to wash my sheep’s dags and belly wool to use as stuffing for soft toys, cushions etc. Perhaps some crafty ( the other use of the word) local person could use those lovely bits of waste. Not difficult to wash, and an eco friendly product.

While the prices are down a bit, it's still not awful...awful would be getting 80 per...that would be awful. Just out of curiosity, is it kind of normal that the earlier in the year you get them to market the more they fetch or is that not true, in a general sense...obviously nothing is 100% all the time when it comes to livestock sales. Also, is there such a thing as "private treaty" or contract sales where you're selling directly to the processor or is that just not a practice that is followed?
Thanks for the video, good info as usual, and hope the market makes a little rise for you all coming into the Holiday season.

If 163 second class tickets costs as much as 68 first class tickets ; what is the price of each ticket class ?
