    after so many videos this is the FINALLY the first time I managed to pull off a somewhat decent false chord distortion (through some trial and error)

    Oh my God it’s working I love you so much right now. My old way of doing growls was very violent and flappy. More of a gutteral type of false chord thing. I’m using this method to sing some Opeth and it’s working amazingly. I’ve been trying so hard to do this forever. I even hit some really dirty pitched stuff like in this video.
    Instead of doing the HUHP then pushing as hard as I can I’m doing something different from what I always do and trying to make it sound really light and crappy and no strain and it’s working way better!
    Wowowowow thanks so much. I knew the whole time I was like it just seems like I’m missing one thing and then I would have it but no one could explain it properly like you did. And you made it so easy. If I had caught your video long ago I’d probably be really good by now. Thanks man!!!!!!

    PERFECT EXPLAINED HOW TO GET THE FALSE CORD SOUND! I'm practising it right now and I start coughing sometimes when I do it and have a hard time finding the rattle. I can do the hold and talk with it, but when I do a note It's like I let go and my vocal folds takes over and I get a raspy sensation that makes me cough.

    • @SINGANDSCREAM
      @SINGANDSCREAM  3 роки тому

      Does it sound very similar to what i am doing or quite different? Triggering the false folds the first couple times can lead to a coughing sensation, but the vocal folds should feel and sound the exact same afterwards and the coughing sensation should go away after doing it a couple times. If your voice is different after this and the coughing sensation does not go away you are doing something else that is harmful and you need to tackle the distortion differently.

    • @bharkanlol
      @bharkanlol 3 роки тому

      @@SINGANDSCREAM I guess I have a hard time holding a note with the compression. When I hold the note it's like I'm letting through more air than I need and I start to cough. The triggering of the false cords kinda sounds like your.. but mor clicky and less "gritty" or "Muddy".

    This tutorial was really helpful at understanding the fundamentals. Do you think you could cover Michael Barr from volumes? Most notably his performances at warped tour 2014? It seems like he gets these incredibly powerful screams with little to no effort. Does his method sound healthy to you? I haven't seen any vocal coach cover volumes before.

    • @SINGANDSCREAM
      @SINGANDSCREAM  3 роки тому +6

      Yeah that is the same method but a bit louder and chestier with the voice underneath. You can hear how his voice does not breakup completely. There is still his ''Yelling'' pitch inside. That's because he goes into the vocal fry from a higher energy coordination, a chestier mix, and not a lighter mix like i use here.

    Brilliant!! Your teaching is great, thanks for the video. I got that sound, going from speaking in that constipated voice to singing a note to giving it a bit more volume. That sound came out and it felt completely different from all the other times I tried it. It feels so different to normal singing, like holding a note in constipated voice is harder, but then by trying it its kind of like the false folds active themselves and I didn’t have to ‘do’ as much with my throat as I thought. I think I’d been trying to keep it feeling the same with my normal voice and that’s what held me back. I recorded myself and actually found it kind of disturbing hearing those sounds coming out of my throat hahaha it sounds like a demon! If you upload any more vids in the future, I’ll be watching them!!

    Thank you so much for this!!! Once you get the practice down that you said to do how do you get to the point where you can add in that vocal fry? How do you know you’re ready, and is it dangerous if done improperly? Maybe I could just search how to do a vocal fry but would that be correct? Then just start doing this and combine the vocal fry once I’ve got this down? Or will it just come naturally as you get louder, like you said your voice will naturally become that way because it wants to as you get louder?

    Hi. Could you give more advice regarding the highest note you’re screaming at the end (07:52) and this heady creacking voice under the false fold distortion. How do you compress notes that high? I can’t compress notes in my head voice.I can compress and distort my mixed voice and belt it comfortably to around G4 but at G#4 I start to choke and compression comes overwhelming and my throat closes completely. I feel like I can’t compress trought my register change between mixed voice and head voice. Also my highest scream (G4) is just full distortion chaos and I can’t transform between clean and distorted. Has this something to do with the glottal stop or too much compression? Any advice?
    Thank you for these awesome videos!

    • @SINGANDSCREAM
      @SINGANDSCREAM  3 роки тому +1

      That note was a Bb4.
      I actually compress only a bit on the higher notes. If you compress too hard it will make it much harder for you to sing up there. Btw I'm not really in head voice there. I'm in between head voice and a lighter mixed voice. Also, if you use compression it screws with the registers. They behave differently so to some extend head voice and chest voice are terms that are of limited use here. I think I need to explain this in a video. It gets too confusing if I just write this without demonstrating.
      You should work on your singing range. Just clean singing and learning how to belt A4 Bb4. The reason you can't go higher and it wants to naturally break up there is because you haven't learned how to properly support your voice up there.

    • @skinbark6782
      @skinbark6782 3 роки тому

      Thanks for the advice! I keep practising my higher notes and belting and try not to compress too much. I also try to improve my lighter mixed voice on high notes. If im not hearing wrong, there's a slight register break thing happening just before the highest note at 7:52. It sounds controlled and really musical to my ear. Great video!

    • @SINGANDSCREAM
      @SINGANDSCREAM  3 роки тому

      @@skinbark6782 Yes there is you are absolutely right! The creaking phonation is in between registers / modes. At 7:51 you can hear the creak too but in that case there is no register switch.
