Y’all I just discovered that the ilsemanii has new leaves that come in yellow and I hate it so much someone please confirm that’s not the case!!!! 😭
If this is true then I am RELIEVED I never shelled out for one omg.
Yup, they come in yellow and then harden to white (if they even have variegation, because that is a lottery by itself 😂)
@@Lavren.27 wow, I don't want it anymore
Thank you! OMG I feel SOOO much better on shrinking down the wish plant list cuz of this video 🙌.
Another great video. Thanks plant friend!
Thank you!
Another one that famously loses its distinctive characteristic as it ages is the El Choco Red!! The beautiful red back is only apparent on the young leaves. This is why they changed the name. Still an absolutely gorgeous plant with beautiful red petioles but the backs eventually come in just green.
I also think a way a plant can “trick” you is by looking one way in ideal conditions that are really hard to replicate or take a long time to get to. Melanochrysum being notoriously hard to size up, for example.
Good one!
Truth!! I think they should post the plants.
Have both the Paraiso and the Rayii and can confirm the disappointment. Add Pink Syngonium to the list. They come out bubble gum pink and fade to a washed out bronze- neon, flecked, pink spot all do this. Also the ring of fire.
Oh that is so disappointing!!!!
Another one, and probably the most infamous and worst of them all, are the plants that have chemically induced colors. I'm sure most people know how they work already but for those who don't, once these plants aren't regularly treated with chemicals (like when you've bought it from a seller for example), the colors that you bought them for will bleed away from their leaves and you'll be left with the unvariegated version of it. Most known for this trait is the pink congo, but there's also a white congo and that newer ice princess scam
One thing I’m looking forward to with this new season of the plant hobby now that the boom is over is that hopefully people give it a rest with the scams
I love this kind of conversations about mature plants. It remind me your video about 2023 trends. This is a very good info because at this point in my collection, I need to make choices about what to buy or what to keep. 😊
✨🪴❤️
really interesting tidbit about new leaves being darker to protect themselves from burning - that makes so much sense!!
Nature is amazing ✨🪴❤️
I get tricked by plants all the time at the supermarket. MMM, look at those giant tasty looking strawberries, TRICKED. MMM, those tomatoes look delicious, TRICKED. MMM I bet those oranges are ready to explode with juice, TRICKED again. MMM look at those seedless watermelons-----you know the drill. Even at the lumber yard, ever buy a two by four, ...It's not two by four. Never turn your back on a plant,--they're tricky!
Love your content!
TYSM ✨🪴❤️
Monstera Dubai loses it silver once it gets fennies! Scindapsus also doesn't keep its unique silver patters either as it matures 🥹🤷
I was totally thinking about monstera Dubaia when I was editing this!
You get the silver or you get the the fennies, can't have both at the same time.
I'm so done with most syngonium. I love the genus, but I'm not collecting them anymore
This is how I feel about philodendrons 🫣
Loving the sultry look very Veronica Lake. Great video!
I didn’t know about the majestic! I learn so much from your videos! 💚
@all just a tips that would help you guys retain its variegation use osmocote for 3 months and thermocote for the next 3 months 😊.
Yasssss my planty friend from down the st 💚💚💚💚
The whipple way colour changing puts me off as well. I love the new leaves with baby pink on it but I'm not sure about the fully green ones down at the bottom 🤔😅 Love the video as always! Btw I just got my gigi x forgetii seedling. I'm so excited 😂 I will let you know what it looks like when it grows up a little bit🤩 💚🌱
Good one! TYSM! Yes please let me know what that plant turns into, I am so curious
Very interesting - thanks so much ✅🇳🇿
your videos are great and I get so excited to see them in my feed! I just got a Majestic that's already getting the 😒 from me because the leaf tips are browning for some godforsaken reason 😩
My guess is it’s probably a water quality issue. You can try filtering and ph balancing your water… or just find it a new home
Love this video! I learned so much. I heard abt philo Paraiso Verde being a tricky plant from one of your other videos. I think she heard what you said and since the cold weather was upon us she started to revert!☹️
I look forward to your videos and have binge watched all the old ones. You show beautiful, magnificent plants and give so much information. It’s not just a house plant tour, though I do like those too. 😊
Thank you so much, I’m so glad you’re enjoying ✨🪴❤️
Omg mines is starting to revert to! They need hot weather, in sun??
I have an NSE Red Crystal x Lux that hardens off to a deep purple and I’m so obsessed with it 🥵😂👀 You’re so right! There’s a lot of plants that aren’t as they seem 😅
I’m so jealous because I have the NSE FTG x Lux and it’s fine but that sounds so much better
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet ya I didn’t expect it too do that 👀😂
If you ever have an offset or a cutting to trade… I’m just putting that thought out there…
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet I’m in Canada 😭
Of course you are 🙃
Philo lupinum got me. Baby version looks like micans and so hard to size up like the melano. This was great!
TYSM! I used to have one of those… can confirm it was terrible lol
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet now I was able to get a mature form and I freaking love it.....but no tinies for me
I think that’s the way to go
❤
Oh yeah the paraiso - I think a lot of us were a bit catfished by that one! Mine now lives with a friend, it annoyed me!I have read the same about JB so, living in a climate with cold wet winters just didn't bother with that!
I think the paraiso was one of my biggest disappointments… those heat wave leaves were really pretty though
Darylynn I’m Darrell Lynn great to meet you.
Omg yes! Nice to meet you!
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet yes Darrell Lynn McKnight is my name from birth, I was in college a few years ago with a young woman, her name was Darrel Lynn Interesting names together you don’t see a lot of.
It’s great to meet you Darylynn
Good to know so I won’t waste money on them 😮
Alocasia anturo velvet is a goth plant. The leaves feel like leather and are furry.
Those are really cool
💋
💚👍
The most tricked I've ever felt by a plant was with the Begonia julau. I almost bought 1 on impulse thinking it kept it's neon pink dots and dark leaves, but turns out, as it matures, it becomes bright green with white dots and actually loses dots with every leaf! I've since come around and actually fell in love with the mature form, too, and plan on getting one, but I would've been so upset had I bought that on impulse only to find in a few months that the leaves start coming out bright green.
Great video, by the way. As someone who got into the plant hobby after many of these plants first hit the market, it's interesting to see why some of them are priced so much lower than I'd personally expect (from decrease in interests), and to hear about the reactions people had to finding these things out 😅. Weirdly enough, though, the fact that the Paraiso Verde actually changes it's variegation depending on the temperature makes me actually want one (from previously not caring for them), so I can experiment with it 😂
Wow I did not know that about the begonia Julau that is good to know
One of the black plants that stays black, is colocasia black saphiro
Ooooo good tip
💌
👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you once again for all the info. You have such an interesting analytical take on plant tubing, just what is needed. Can you tell me, why Raven zz is black? Is it artificial?
TYSM! It’s definitely not artificial… I have one and I think it’s probably just a mutation that was stabilized
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet cool! Now I dont have to suffer in ignorance anymore 😄. Successfull and exciting growing season to your jungle!
TYSM!
2:36 i had a wendlendii and e ded up give it to my sister cuz the same
What is your opinion of the Caramel Marble “Pluto”? I’m like that’s probably a Jungle Boogie or at best a Ring of Fire.
It’s just a caramel marble with no variegation. Not even reverted, just the plant with no variegation. I don’t personally love it but if other folks do then that’s great! Just don’t buy it thinking it will ever have variegation.
Not even any hope that it will show variegation something time
That plant on your upper right side that has long leaf, what's the name of it? Pretty
Is it the T-shaped one? That’s an anthurium Longisimilobum
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet thanks, you have a gorgeous one! New wishlist plant for me. Great video!
Thank you! I recommend but they need a lot of airflow!
My monstera aurea doesnt show varigation, then it will pop up, then itll brown up. 😂.
The worst
Cercestis mirabilis lose the white embossing as they mature
Wait, what?
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet whats even crazier is ive read super mature specimens begin to split and fenestrate
Stop it right now
Holy crap!! This is insane 🤯 I wasn’t sure how I felt about mine but now I need to make it do these cool tricks 😂 Thanks for the info!
