Congratulations to our giveaway winner! What do you all think? Is the PPP cancelled?
One hundred percento. I am so done with the pink princess 😂
Super badass plant for a giveaway.
I’d mail you a cutting D!!
Yeaa im not buying one again. Actually its like a boquet of flowers. You have a few weeks or months to enjoy them and then buy a new one haha
yay!! thank you so much!! I love it ♥️♥️♥️
I love pink princess, not because of any sort of value or status it could or would hold. It was the first plant I saw before I got into plants that was pink. The moment I learned they could even be pink! It was like a reminder that magic does exist. I have collected many different PPs from different places- outdoor grown in Hawaii, a mother that flowered, etc. I have such a wide variety of them from solid pink to more solid burgundy. I love them sooo much no matter how variegated it is, no matter the value. They were my first plant love. The ones with super amazing color are just a bonus ❤️
I totally agree she holds a special place in my heart💖☮️
Same! I love mine, I’ve owned her for about 6 years now and in that time I’ve gifted a lot of cuttings from her to family and friends and they enjoy her now too. I adore her pink/ fuchsia/ cherry splashes/half moon as much as I love her deep almost black solid color “green” leaves. she’s about 4’ tall now and would have probably been a tree if I didn’t give so many pieces of her away lol.
I totally agree! I love mine so much! 💕
PPs are not propagated through flowering. At least, not successfully. They lose variegation.
@thegrumpyhorticulturist ok and? The fact is I have matured one that has flowered? Weird response on a month old comment but ok 🙊
I've had no issues with mine. It's nearly 4ft tall and has bright bubble gum pink variegation. I bought it with extremely low variegation from Costa Farms in April. I placed it under a grow light and it continually puts out highly variegated leaves. What works for some doesn't work for all.
Did u put urs on a stake ?? I just got mine about a week ago for 20 bucks , not a whole lot of variation ATM, but I have high hopes. Put her in my south facing window and went and got a humidifier. But I was wondering if I should stake it
@@erinjoy5625 Yes, I have it on a moss pole. For one it's so tall it needs the support and two, it helps put out larger leaves. My leaves are larger than my hands now.
@@oznow77 oh wow, ok so it deff is a good idea then. Thank you so much for ur response
I remember the PPP when it first arrived in the late '70s. I saw my first one in the nurseries, in the annuals section as a filler for outdoor containers! It was one of those plants sold to put in pots that could be brought inside over the Winter or kept as a houseplant!! It sold in a 6" pot for around $15! It wasn't a 'rare' plant. It wasn't a 'coveted' plant worth hundreds! It was just a pretty plant that people bought. People soon realized just like today, that it didn't keep its color well and it went out of favor. The difference between then and now? There was no social media for people to post pictures that people would flip out over. When social media did come about it was message/forum boards but there were no cell phones with cameras and little opportunity to post pictures. People talked about "this pretty plant I saw" but still didn't cause a huge rush over it and again people soon realized it wasn't long lasting. Only because of today's pictures on the social media pages has the PPP become the sensation it did and bring the prices people paid. It's the same with some of the other 'rare' plants. Some of the variegated Monsteras for instance were bought at Home Depot in large containers in the past. Or in Logee's catalogue for the usual markup price. It's been a bit fun and a bit sad to watch what's been happening in the plant world these days.
Wow, that’s really interesting insight!
Agree with Monstera albo…got mine like 8 years ago for £20 (4ft with four vines in the pot).
@@ceffyr crazy how different areas are so different! I'm in rural ireland and I have never seen an albo in the flesh. I know lots of private owners have them but It was a struggle to find a pothos in a shop here.
I think what’s not cool about them no more is the fact that they are more accessible. It’s capitalism and Elitist at its best. I see the same issues on the strawberry shake? I think we should just grow shit and enjoy it and stop always wanting to one up one another
I just found a 4 inch pot with three plants inside for $13. It was labeled low variegation, but they are beautiful and just threw out a half moon leaf for me and I’ve only had it for a week and a half! The older leaves are super freckled and have lots of splashes so I’m hopeful that it will continue to stay somewhat pink.
I’ve been patiently waiting and feverishly looking for the price to go down. I don’t spend more than $40 on any of my plants- and I rarely pay over $20 because I personally don’t want to have to worry about the plant dying and wasting that money. Or losing any variegation.
I hope it continues to do well! If not, I’m not going to be super upset about losing $13. Now I just need to wait for the variegated Monstera deliciosa varieties to come down in price. 🤣 But I’m patient!
Nice! Sounds like you got a really good deal ❤
This was a spectacular rundown! I'm not a trend follower...I buy what's cheap and easy to care for...but it's fascinating social science to follow.
There is a lot of social science to observe in the plant community! Very true!
Girl I’m sorry ~ I STILL LOOVE THIS PLANT!! Idk how anyone can’t.. I have 5 now and luckily I bought mine within last year for less then 60$ each.. but huge/HIGHLY VARIGATED.. if you use a T5 light = VARIEGATION FLOURISHES!! I will Never Ever pay over 100$ for a plant ever again. My most expensive are my strawberry shake & then red anderson. My red anderson died completely from shipping🤦🏼♀️😢😭 shipped form Thailand to USA.. So I’m content with my collection till spring
It’s ok! They are really really pretty when you get a good one! It’s just too bad that so many people haven’t. That’s awesome, yours sound beautiful!
I have a small one. Paid $35aud, and frankly, I don’t regret it. Sure, I expect it to be a pop Princess, but I’m always excited to see the next leaf and see what I get. I wouldn’t spend more for a less variegated plant, absolutely, but I think they’re fun and I like the dark foliage too. I don’t have any of the issues with the fungus or leaves getting stuck.
The Pink Princess and Strawberry Shake are still on my list. Congratulations Jenna!🎉🎉🎉.
Yes, I have heard all of the negativity but, still need to try once. Thank you for the generous giveaway opportunity.💖.
Congratulations Jenna for your beautiful cutting!! Thankyou for your info on your video, I was up in the air about wanting the infamous Pink Princess because of everything I had heard about it, so thankyou for your input. I really do like the strawberry shake philo so maybe I will look into getting one someday.
I bought a PPP for £20 - £30 here in the UK. It now has 10 leaves that all have pink on them ranging between 30-90% and it looks wonderful. Definitely got lucky with my one...
That sounds amazing!
Wooowzers , that sounds stunning
I hit $13 at Home Depot for an extremeLy well variegated ppp which ended up being twi mature plants and small pup. They all are doing amazing.
That’s awesome! I think the new PPP’s coming from Home Depot are proving to be pretty good quality so sending good vibes your way that they keep doing amazing!
I'm one of the few who never liked the Pink Princess. Especially after hearing how difficult it is to keep a nice level of variegation. I appreciate its beauty, but I would never bother worrying about it.
On another note: yay, you found another "F"! And I love when you do the finger gun, lol! It always puts a smile on my face
Finger guns forever!
I totally agree. I have about 150 plants and in no way shape or form wanting the PP. Don't have the time to give this much attention to one plant. I had someone get into a huge argument with me because I told them the original dirty secret of PP. The very 1st ones that came out were green and white variegated. They were then put into gasing rooms and treated with the same gas that is used to make it ripe bananas. They made them in huge bulk for parties & weddings. This information came from a large commercial grower. People don't like to hear all the dirty secrets of the plant community but I think it's important to give people information. I think that's why the 1st ones that came out were so spectacular.
Congrats Jenna! Enjoy that beautiful plant baby 💖
Just got one for cheap (19.99) today! I’m happy!
Thank you!! I'm so excited to have won a piece of Queen Celine!! ❤️❤️❤️
Yay! Dm me on Instagram and we’ll get the details figured out! Congrats!
I have 100s of pink princesses. 100s. And the genetics are EVERYTHING. let me send you one of mine. It will change your opinion!
You are VERY kind to offer! Send me a DM on IG and maybe we can work out a trade?
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet ill message you this weekend
Can I buy one from you please?!
I order plants from Orange Lake Nursery. I really appreciate that they labeled their pink princesses as specifically low variegation, for a lower price than the well variegated, when that was the case
ppp is one of my favorite plants ever! i get why ppl dont like it but im so happy people dont seem to like it anymore and they got dirt cheap because now theres more for me (hehehe)
i saw the brown scrape on my red anderson and had no idea what it was. Thank you
I refuse to buy one. I have about 150 plants of many diff types and I literally don't want to spend so much time on one plant that has to be given entirely too much attention. I take care of my plants as they are supposed to be cared for but I don't need a plant that has to be constantly cut up to be happy with it. Takes all the joy out of the plant for me personally but everyone should do what makes them happy.
I have many plants and they are gorgeous! BUT the PPP is a pain! My leaves are getting smaller and they always seem to get stuck! 😕 I did have a very pretty leaf with lovely pink several leaves ago. This spring I'm chopping it up. I keep it next to a humidifier. It gets wonderful bright light. We shall see. I agree with you!
Thank you so much!! I brought one from Hirts and I have a grayish half leaf and a new burgundy leaf! I messaged them asking would I get pink leaves ever. I was told to give them a lost of moister! Well we will see 😮
I couldn't agree more with you Deryleen!!! Ppp are a pain in the ass... I ve got 3 of them and thinking of giving them away to a friend. Most of them are low varigated ones and literally full of trouble!
Yeyyy helloooo girlaa💚💚💚 is true pink princess was soo expensive
I have a PPP that I bought about 18 months ago and it took so long to acclimate and was such a mess for so long that I stopped paying attention to it. It finally seems to be growing but has never sized up, though every other leaf has decent variegation. I fully expected it to die six months ago but it's doing "okay".
I’m a late bloomer in plants. I’m mid 50s and just getting into them. I bought my PPP at my local grocery store and she’s lovely. I do not need or want finicky girls. Lol. She puts off a good mix of pink and green and really, at the end of the day, that’s all I wanted.
That’s awesome! It seems like the newest batch out of some of the big box stores is really hardy which is great because PPP’s are great when they cooperate!
I must have gotten lucky bc I recently got my ppp and she’s a really stunning .. high variegation and putting out new leaves .. but they have gotten stuck in the cataphyll and needed extra humidity and some gentle encouragement .. I’m happy to have this beautiful plant 🪴💗
The only problem I had with it when I first got it was too much light which burnt the pink leaves. It wasn't even in direct sunlight, but bright light itself as harming the plant. I put it at my bottom rack and it's happy now pushing out more pink leaves. I saw someone selling a giant PPP as big as a small monstera borsigiana, and I'm hoping mine would grow as big one day. It's super pretty, it's almost like a pillow 😍😍
I have 2 white princess and 1 pink princess
PP is a bit more legy than the white but that actually depends on the light
I also have the experience that, if the plant activates the growth on the left side (from my view) it will make a boring almost no pink leaf
if it does on the right, the leaf has sectorial var. at least 1/3 and mostly half-moons
but the most important thing about these Philodendrons: the new leaves get stuck ALL THE TIME! I raised the humidity in my bathroom to about 70% for some time, gently massaged warm water on the petiole and so on but nothing ever worked to make it come out smooth. I broke off so many leaves in an attempt to help unfurl.
I really enjoy your videos
Thank you so much for saying that!
happy holidays!
Thank you! You as well!
I have 2. One my husband paid 110. And then I bought a second months later for 40.00
Both get those rusty brown spots. I have been treating with a fungicide and trying to see if it will make any difference 🤷♀️
Congratulations Jenna
Just bought a small PP. Love it.
Funny I never wanted one until I saw it irl. Now I’m PPP an PPM crazy. 🤪 This is first notification for you in months. 💚 Genetics is important in the PPP. Jaclynn’s Jungles is gorgeous 😍
I had to take some time off but this is the third video I’ve posted this month :)
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet I’ll go find others 😀
Btw have you considered making a video about "monstera sports" and the tyler thrasher sport website to collect data of viable specimen? I just recently found a huge green on green monstera sport and I'm curious what you think about this topic!
Hi! I haven’t looked at Tyler’s website but it might be an interesting thing to take a look at. Did you see my Fancy Monstera video? I went over all of the sports that I could find at the time there. It’s probably going to need an update at some point though so that’s a good tip!
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet Yes, I have seen that video :) you covered the Green on Green well but there are more colours, green is just the most common. A sport can also be yellow and or white and look very similar to the "original" rare plant like an aurea for example, but it happened to be your 12 yr old monstera you bought for 5 bucks back then that suddenly throws that kind of leaf out.
Tyler Thrasher has a website where he takes submissions of people finding these plants and he himself specialices in sport variegation! (www.monsterasports.com/)
His collection is pretty big by now (tylerthrasher.com/plants) and he could even find reliable ways to figure out if a mutation will continue or is just a one-time thing for the plant. He has made even a sport hunting guide!
Don’t sleep on the low color
Ones. Bought one at Home Depot that had just popped out a half moon after none of the plant had much pink!
Ooooooo lucky you!
I have one it’s rubbish lol, the amount of times I’ve cut it back to make it nice 🙃
I love mine but it’s very pink and I’ve had an easy time. I give it medium light
I’m so jealous!
Fingers crossed I bought one a couple months ago online for like $50 shipped with like 5 leaves with good variegation and it's already pumped out at least 4 more leaves only one being green, the others having nice pink and the dark black leaves as they're newer. I'm really happy with it so far, no damage or struggle so far.
That’s amazing! I hope it continues to be incredible for you!
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet thanks me too, I'm cursed with other plants like ferns and calatheas so I think some plants work for different people easier🤷🏼♀️
I just bought one I found it in a grocery store. I think I am going to moss pole it. I paid $39.99 for 6" pot with high variegation. I think I even overpaid... but I am into it, ready for the challenge.
Is the black cherry pink princess as unstable as the OG PP?
The official black cherry pink princess originated from a sport that popped up in the NSE tropicals collection. Very few genuine ones have been verified to be sold and there’s almost no public information about them. The ones that have been posted online by Enid look pretty stable but there’s no public info. Not even sure if she still has the plant or has any plans to sell any in the future.
Anyone who is selling “black cherry princess” without documentation tracing it back to NSE tropicals is not selling the real thing. Don’t pay an arm and a leg for one. It’s almost 100% likely that it’s just a nice looking pink princess.
I just got a strawberry shake and it was frozen solid nothing left when it thawed it was mush I’m so upset about it cuz I payed a lot for it and not only that the seller never purchased protection so I’m out a buïeautiful plant that was Xmas present 😢and congratulations
I saw one at walmart, it had two shoots, one had some pink, the other no pink. Ands that's still how they are. But its such a delicious deep green, almost a black, I just love both shoots.
I like the pink parts, but if they vanish, I'll still keep it, I think the leaves are just lovely, pink or no pink and I don't have any problem growing it and man, I kill plants all the time!
I paid $25, which is more than I paid for other plants, but I already knew that varigation could be spotty or not guaranteed, so its not a big deal to me. I have mine under a weak T5 grow light, it does super. No browns in it. I've never provided any humidity.
I would never pay even a hundred dollars for a plant, I kill things too fast and there are far too many pretty plants out there to bother with something that costly. If my PPP had even been $50, I would never have bought it.
Now my pink fittonia, that baby is gonna go in the garbage very soon, it's always looked sickly and I'm so not into babying a fussy plant.
I actually like the dark green leaves of the PPP. And I consider them low maintenance. Its funny how we all have different experiences.
This past summer I bought 2 at the 99 cent store for $12.99 each. They were in 3 inch pots . They are growing and some have pink marble and splotches. I’m glad I only paid $13 for them.🪴
Som time ago I did buy one big PPP and two little ones from holland. Then big one, and propagations from her never had these ugly brown patches. I like to think, it is due to better quality TC copy. But small ones do get the patches very often. So these will be out of the house. Regarding variegation, now the nurseries are sending out new variation, pink princess marble and the coloring on those is heavenly. I did get two little babies of those, and I am hoping, the colors will stay.
I’m a pro at unfurling new leaves . Spray with water and ease it out . Got lucky with good genetics. People are player hating because they didn’t get a good genetic plant .
I just let nature just do its thing. I don't force anything. Plants have their divine timing and so it is.
I agree with your thought on them becoming rare again soon. As most plants do, theres a cycle lol.
My opinion: I absolutely love mine, it's huge, easy, beautiful and it it didn't cost too much.
With the prices decreasing and becoming available in big box stores, they are a great option now! I’ve also heard that some of the newer tissue culture batches are better so maybe whatever issue was happening got fixed.
Congratulations to the winner!
🧬 are key imo -
I still love this plant but have had problems with root rot , my first was the best from Indonesia and had amazing 3 different colors of pink variegaion I sold a large piece then the smaller portion died I was surprised.
Then I bought another on Etsy and she’s struggling but did look beautiful when I got her if she makes which new growth is coming I think I’m good I have it in a pole . I still like this plant but the hype maybe over .
I’m more excited to see my Dark Lord finally leaping after getting it so small . If I was buying one again this is what I tried - order a large mature leaf 🍃 start with that . I tried and they upgraded me to a small plants one I was. Like omg don’t have them available that’s not what I wanted ugh
I LOVE my PPP! 😂 She is special, and so far, highly variegated. 🙏🏾 The new leaves do get stuck though and they are so hard not to pick (like when you were a kid and couldn’t stop picking a scab!) and it never goes well. 😅
SIDEBAR: what is that plant on your right side (our left) @plantfriendnextdoor!?! Is that an Alocasia or an Anthurium?? I’m totally mesmerized and distracted. Lol
Hi! I think it’s probably the anthurium Nigrolaminum “Gigi”. Ecuagenera and Tropicals plants both sell them. Back when I bought it, it was still called Anthurium Versicolor sp. “Napo” though. Hope that helps!
It quickly fell out of favor here in Manila as well, maybe I'm just late in the plant game. But recently got a PPP for 200php (almost 4USD). I guess them falling out of favor is great for noobs like us.
I think the reduction in quality definitely plays a big part in why people don’t like them. $4 USD is a great price though!
I feel like you should get way more views on your videos, because your information is clearly coming from a place of actual knowledge, or at least very careful and considered research. And I say this as someone with a science background, albeit not botany, but your ability to talk plant genetics in a way that the planty layperson can understand is 👍🏾 Love it
Personally never been a fan of the PP, but I’m not really into pink or even colored or highly variegated plants anyway.
I did bite the bullet and grab an inexpensive Birkin when they were all everyone could speak of, but I recently (finally!) sold it, at cost, because it was essentially fully reverted. I’m good on these finicky plants, when all I want to do is love them and see them thrive 😒
Wow! Thank you so much for your kind words! I’ve been pretty intentional about letting the channel grow at a manageable pace and taking my time to figure out what kind of content I like making that people also like watching. It’s been a process but I have a lot of other kind of “science communicator”/infotainment type videos planned so it’s really cool to hear that someone thinks I’m doing something right. Thank you again 🪴❤️
I have a bunch of them and now and then I get a real nice leaf and I also had a cutting that reverted to a white princess and I know its possible because I never owned a WP. I got my $ back a long time ago I think I spent $225 so I don't mind selling them cheap. BTW all of mine look much better than costa farms reverted ones .
When they revert, it's over for the plant.!!!
My boyfriend gave me a PPP for Christmas that he got from heyhorti. It’s been tricky, but it’s growing pretty quickly! I definitely want a strawberry shake tho…👀
Some of the newer PPPs coming out seem to be… better? I’m glad yours is doing well. Strawberry Shakes are one of my faves, probably my favorite philodendron overall.
I hate I spent money on these. They are the most fickle plant, I can’t get it to look good for nothing. Its just been holding on for like 6 months now, its not even growing. The leaves are droopy. It wont die though, no idea whats up with it but I literally put them in a corner and pay very little attention to it. $300 wasted.
Sounds about right.
No but its all true ive killed 3 already they will rot so easyly and yea just a mess to handle. Would rather reccomend a white or orange princess even. The oranges are more new so more expensive but so far sooo easy to prop.
Very good advice!
I saw one at home depot today for 15.99
Did I mess up by buying a $50 white princess from Home Depot? They have like 10 so I bought one.
Not if you like it and think it was worth it!
I did try to sell one of mine for like $30 a few weeks ago and no one bought it but I think it’s ok to have plants that aren’t investments. It’s ok to buy something just because you like it. White princesses are way better than PPP’s though too. Grow way better.
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet thank you friend. I guess the insecurity came from spending that much on one plant. To me it’s worth it because I don’t see it for cheaper price local to me and I plan on keeping it and growing it.
The ones at Home Depot are nice and big too! Sure can get one for cheaper if you really looked but it would probably be small and annoying to grow. Congrats on your new plant and I hope it does amazing for you!
I love mine because I find it beautiful! I’m lucky with mine because it’s quite big and has kept its variegation. However, I don’t like the hype that was around it and sm glad it’s gone down 😂
Philo red wings are sweet too
Dose all this count also with Prince of Orange ?
Ooooo I don’t really know/think so but I’ve never had one. I know the variegated ones are really pricy right now but still super rare so we’ll have to see what happens with those! Interesting insight, thank you.
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet ordered one, will have it anyday now, its quite up there on the buks but seems to function normally from what ive seen with the Pcommunity, i think its because the leaves are more monotoned rather than splashed like PPP, lets see 💫
Yes
Pink princess never changed. U should know that there is allways a few exceptional plants whatever species it is. Its never been rare. Just in high demand in USA in a few years.
I’ve had 3 pink princess now and it is the most infuriating plant I’ve had! The leaves always get stuck and get deformed! So over it!! Lol
You’re not alone!
PPP is the worst mistake in my plants journey. Good thing is I only spend 2-digit to buy it and it grows easily. However, no pink comes out, they are only splashes. What a disappointment.
Great video! ♥️ Congratulations to Jenna!
I just purchased two baby ppp off Etsy. A lot of people are still buying ppp.
Wow I'm early for once.
My main problem is getting fungus gnats
It's all about the Thai Constellation Monstera now
Great video! I was watching and was like “yup”, “yup”, “yup”. I got a pink Princess on a trade, so I’ve never held it to much scrutiny, but leaves always get stuck, the variegation is inconsistent even after nearly a year and a half, and the leaves get those burns (the brown marks). That said…I got a White Wizard at the same time…and kind of have the same vibes for that plant too. Anyways, love this vid-much more informative than any other PPP video I’ve seen. Hopefully “the good ones” make a comeback
Thank you so much! I was literally reading your article about PSS last night, so I am very honored that you enjoyed the video 🪴❤️
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet - haha! Love it. Spiritus is fun. Much easier to grow than I expected based on the price tag during the plantdemic. I don’t know though…if they’re reasonable houseplants as far as size goes. Haha. Guess we’ll see 🤪
The quality control or lack there of really killed it.
I think this might just be a case of “people “spending a bunch of money on a plant expecting to make a bunch of money on selling it …. Then the price drops and y’all mad
I’m sure that happened to some people but I was personally devastated that the plant I got in a trade with my friend was so difficult and that I wasn’t enjoying it. Then I bought another one that I thought had the characteristics I was looking for and got the same disappointing results… by the time this happened, prices on these were already at pretty reasonable levels. Honestly, I don’t think it really matters how much you pay, not getting what you thought you would get is still disappointing. I’ve had much better luck with things like strawberry shakes and white princesses and Florida beauties though so it’s all good.
What's the beautiufl plant on the far right? (Your left). I thought it was a Gloriosum but it looks like it's climbing on a moss pole? What is this witchcraft? lol
It’s philodendron glorious, the Melanochrysum x glorious hybrid. They climb!
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet thank you!!
reverted pink princess looks much better than highly variegated pink princess
My princess is ugly af and has zero variegation but I’m perfectly happy with it.
Walmart has them for 5.00
Haha, i should have come here for advice first. I just bought a half moon pink princess Philodendron cutting from Sri Lanka. I'm guessing it won't even survive the trip to the usa let alone survive my growing skills lol. First plant im ever taking care of. I'm an idiot lol. But it looks cool. Who knows. Maybe I didn't waste $80 lol but at this point waiting a month for the delivery and expecting bad news. Oh man...
I got mine a while back in the grocery store for 15 dollars. I’m not impressed probably end up giving it away 🙃
I don't think it has gone out of fashion or is no longer popular. it is still in some places with its high prices and is very difficult to acquire. it is not a common plant.
I bought one 2 months ago. . It's trying to push a big leaf but it's struggling!!! I paid 23 dollars for it. However, it's in good condition. Everything is on point but this bitch is making a shit out of itself . 😮😮 Sorry, I understand what your sharing. However I'm stumped. Thank you for sharing.
Pink princess suck. I have about 20 rooted cuttings, all green, ready to go in the trash
Seriously! You’d be surprised how many people in these comments have been defending them though, lol. Sorry that happened with your plants though!
I just got a pink princess from lowes for $20 and I like the pink but i like the dark leaves to so as long as it survives i dont care 😂
Ive been hearing good things about the newer batches from Home Depot. Sounds like they maybe solved some of the issues in some of the older TC batches so that’s great!
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet well that's good to know. I'm starting it in the terrerium I started my Monstera Peru and Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma. Hopefully everything goes well I'm also interested to see if U.V. helps or hurts the variegation since this will be the first variegated plant I'll be growing under these lights.
Got 1 from Walmart for 25 bucks lol it's good so far
I just decided to name my PPP Regina George! Thanks! 😅😂
We just need someone to name their’s Gretchen and we have the full set! Karen’s new owner kept the name!
This plant showed us ALL plants 😑ain’t worth the hype
Damn straight
I bought my pink princess from Home Depot for $30 and there was about 40 all with high variegation. What are you even talking about?
This video is almost 3 years old
What you see is what you get 100000% with pink princesses. It can surprise you with pink but if you don't see it on the petiole prob not gonna happen.
Ok they are now at Walmart
Yep. I paid 300 back in the day. I literally give them away when mine have to be cut back now. I've gone through the whole song and dance and have given up. I still keep mine around because other than lack of pink it does grow well with me with leaves 13 inches by 8. Once every seven or so leaves it will mock me with a half pink leaf before...... It basically plays the role of Dark Lord. Once in a while I do get the bronze patches. My worry is my Strawberry. I've only had it about 5 months. Also a very fast grower and has gone from initial 2 inch leaves to around nine inch in just the first three months. But the last four leaves are almost all dark green so I'm concerned that another PPP saga is unfolding. I think my PPP has given me deep seated trust issues. Love your show!!!
I'm such a variegated plant hater, the downfall of any one of those overhyped variegated plants is just music to my ear
Be careful about throwing around the word "cancelled" nowadays, you can cause a lot of trouble for yourself.
The “Covid spawned plant community” is a very strange crowd.
As an avid gardener, who has been growing Hoya and aroids for decades, I have been having a hard time understanding the “new crowd.”
To jump from one plant to another, fueled by Instagram posts, is akin to the designer purse craze.
One year, everyone wants Coach bags and the next month it’s Michael Kors.
If you coveted a certain plant, and then you “cancel” this plant as soon it becomes more widely available and is less sought after…then I’d say, you never liked this plant in the first place.
It’s all about a plant’s status within this new crowd of “plant collectors” and not the plant itself.
And don’t get me started on these new “naming conventions” that are solely based on commerciality and not on botanical nomenclature.
No….there is no P. erubescens ‘Pink Princess’ Galaxy or Marble, botanically, they are all P. erubescens cultivar ‘Pink Princess.’ Some of these names are blatantly made up and have no connection to botanical reality. Just another hint that plant collectors aren’t about the joy of growing.
Rant over
I don't think it ever will be. It was a common plant before covid and will continue to be so. Will it ever get a crazy resurgence again? Who knows. All plants have been popular at one time or another. They were already a mass produced plant and with many people suddenly wanting to bring the indoors inside it became popular as it looked nice and few people new to the hobby knew there were other pink plants out there until after getting one. Honestly anyone only buying a plant because it has sectoral variegation is setting themself up for disappointment 😅 the patcher the better - the plant won't attempt to abort those colours on it's leaves🤣
