Welcome to the twenty-fourth video in my "'Romeo and Juliet' GCSE English Literature Revision" series! In this video, I analyse the theme of Age and Maturity and how it is presented in Shakespeare's play. To do this, I break down what might be meant by the theme of 'Age and Maturity' in Romeo and Juliet, analyse 10 quotations that are relevant to this theme (incorporating language analysis and context as we go), and ask a 'big question' at the end too!

Nice video, i saw the last quote as her being foolish as suicide would be taken as blasphemous by Elizabeth audieces and when the montague says he will raise her statue of pure gold it shows the old maturing and putting beside their ancient grudge

Mercutios fantastical and unserious nature leads him to foreshadowing major events in the play (clearly shown in queen man speech), therefore maturity isn’t always the most desirable quality to have. Furthermore, Juliets maturity only develops so fast because of the lack of adult presence in her life; Juliet ‘instant love’ with Romeo may have been a result of her parents adding the burden of marrying Paris to her life. Lady Capulet mainly advices this marriage because it will secure an heir for her (Juliet was her only daughter). Therefore, Juliets mother only cares about Status rather her daughters safety because it will benefit her, leading to Juliet maturing fast and wishing to marry Romeo, which makes maturity an undesirable trait.
However, immaturity is also an unreliable quality because it can lead to many negative affects e.g. Romeo not defending mercutio then blaming it on Juliet (thy beauty hath made me effeminate) lead to a very important character (especially to Romeo because mercutio was his loyal companion) dying.

I also wanted to say abt lady Capulet: a mothers role was to raise. Child (especially in Elizabthen society),but LC clearly subverted these norms!
