Welcome to the thirteenth video in my "'Romeo and Juliet' GCSE English Literature Revision" series! In this video, I analyse the characters of Lord and Lady Capulet, two important characters in Shakespeare's play. I discuss who they are, their story-roles, and how they might symbolise authority and tradition. I also analyse ELEVEN (that's right - eleven, not ten!) quotations that relate to these characters, incorporating occasional contextual information as I go. Right at the end of this video, there's even a 'big question' for you to consider as well!

Hey Sophie - remember that it's you who writes the essays, etc., so really it's YOU who is getting the 9s for you! I did a spot of medium-term planning the other day. All things going to plan, I should have all of the characters and themes covered by mid-June (and only one or two missing by the end of May), so hopefully that should do the job! Hopefully nothing gets in my way 🤞

If we were asked about only lady capulet in our exam, could we still write an essay on how the capulets as a couple are presented?

Yes and no - I'd make sure that the emphasis was on Lady Capulet and that the quotations were from or about her. You could say something like 'Much like her husband, Lady Capulet is _____', and then analyse quotations that relate to her, which might be a great way of showing knowledge of the play at large. You can also of course write about how they function within their relationship, but again, be sure to have the focus more shifted towards her. How does that sound to you?
