Welcome to the twenty-fifth video in my "'Romeo and Juliet' GCSE English Literature Revision" series! In this video, I analyse the theme of Gender. To do this, I break down what might be meant by gender and discuss some contextual information that relates to this theme in Shakespeare's play, analyse 10 quotations , and ask a 'big question' at the end too!

Just want to say that you are single-handedly saving my English lit grade. Thank you SO much!
This is so perfect, to answer the question,
I believe that Shakespeare celebrates gender stereotypes because he hasn’t really said many quotes that highlight Juliet’s feminine power, he has stated how she agreed to become a nun and had even been weak enough to kill herself, however, when he talks of Romeo’s death it seems more like it’s out of love for Juliet.
To be honest it would make sense because during the Elizabethan times there wasn’t much feminism and if there was the odd lady who decided to stand up for herself, she would be seen as foolish and even crazy, that said it might of even crossed Shakespeares mind to include feminism but in order to make the play a success, he probably had to make sure his audience weren’t uncomfortable so that he could actually make money out of it.
thank you, this is very useful for my revision
Thank you so much
Great video thankyou so much.
Why does Shakespeare want to portray Romeo and Juliet as both opposing to societal norms
