In the UK this was a big hit for Julie Driscoll and Brian Auger and I loved it. Unbelievably this is the first time that I’ve heard Dylan’s original version. It’s amazing and as has been noted his voice is amazing.
First heard this on a bootleg recording the Great White Hope, the sound was muddied but the soulful delivery was there. This is the same version, utterly haunting vocal by Dylan with improved sound.
Straordinaria versione di questa canzone in cui la "The Band" di Robbie Robertson, Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson, Rick Danko e Levon Helm, fornisce la sua inconfondibile impronta timbrico-musicale. Che dire di Bob? Semplicemente eccezionale! :-)
When i got the Basement Tapes from Columbia House back in the day, i didn't know who Dylan was. But i learned real quick. The tapes became my favorite. There was a lot of really great stuff back then, but The Basement Tapes ruled my 8 track tape player.
I remember the day, The record was spinning the needle was skimming, an elegant dance that matched the celestial wonders, and once again you made time stop, casting my day into sunders.

"Best notify my next of kin": This might be my favorite song from the Basement Tapes. It sounds like it was written and recorded during the Civil War.
