This. I see WAY too many ninja players using doton on single target even in a level 90 alliance raid. If my math is correct, raiton+ raiju is worth around 3 dotons.
@@cormeaga if i remember correctly, at lower levels DOTON is worth 1 shuriken throw, so throwing a 1 shurinken on a single target is worth the same as placing 1 doton under it
@@soldierorsomething I was doing Aglaia to level up my drk, and there was a ninja in my group using doton. I commented that raiton was bad against single target and he responded with, every dot helps. He rarely did trick attack and dokumori. Needless to say, he was at the bottom of dps(lower than me, a drk) and even the whm said to the nin to learn to play the job.
another note for Shukuchi. there is an option in the character settings (i forget where exactly) that you can toggle so im pretty sure any targeted ground based attack, movement, ability etc cannot go past the target distance. if i move my mouse farther than the range of Shukuchi, i can still click and it will go the max distance possible. this way i can just throw my mouse across the screen in the direction i want and get max distance instantly. this is also very useful for the mech section in Praetorium
Don't forget Trick Attack has a positional on it still. In opener you need to hit Armor Crush (flank) into Trick Attack (rear) really close to each other. It might be worth mentioning using True North in the opener, below level 92, since it is sometimes really hard to hit a GCD positional into an OGCD positional that fast.
Level 82 Phantom Kamaitachi replaces Armor Crush, and even still, it's not that big of a deal. This isn't about optimizing, the level 70 opener isn't even optimal or even close to it as I mentioned, and many other factors. Yes, do your positionals which is why I do mention them, but if you're actively using this guide you have bigger issues to worry about first.
@@WeskAlber That's very fair. Ninja has so many little optimizations that it is easy to get lost in the weeds. Like you said there are a lot bigger things that are more important to learn first. Just thought it was something worth mentioning. Great guide as always Wesk
Huton being removed made the job so much more streamlined in a way I liked, it’s probably my most-played job outside of raiding now due to the functional uses of Mug/Dokumori, ranged attacks from ninjutsu complimented by Forked Raiju, and faster movement speed. Would heavily recommend it to anyone curious.
Shukuchi with the option to range lock the targeting circle on controller is wildly easy to get used to. I basically never used it without macro when I was playing on M&K.
With 7.1 buff Ten-Chi-Jin has received a QOL buff, you're able to move while its casted now. I was in the middle of watching/learning this guide/job when patch came out.

@@DragoranShini I mean obviously I wouldn't want worse audio so it's good to bring it up. I just don't hear it. Granted I hear myself daily unfortunately
I did actually try to workshop an AoE opener myself and it's hilarious how many different variations there can be depending on when your Mudra come off cooldown again or how much ninki you have going into the opener, what you've got is about as good as many others, even with the forced clipping when you weave both Deathfrog Medium and Tenri Jindo after the Goka Mekkyaku. I think I personally throw out Dokumori a GCD sooner and use freed up weave on Bunshin, shift Meisui to be immediately after TCJ, and use Tenri Jindo after Phantom Kamaitachi. I think the difference between these two openers is like 2-3% at most though and with how hectic pulls can get with AoEs and such it's good enough.
40:15 In regards to TCJ immobility being a safety concern in large packs of monsters. If you input Shukuchi IMMEDIATELY after Doton, it will deploy the Doton at your arrival point, not departure. This works with normal Ninjutsu and TCJ ninjutsu. It is much easier to execute with the setting that allows execution of ground targeted skills via double pressing. Hope this helps someone out there! Character Configuration > Control Settings (left buttons) > Target (top buttons) > Ground Targeting Settings (Gamepad Mode) > "Press action twice to execute" Edit: Just tested tolerance on Shukuchi timing. Seems to be in the ballpark of .3 seconds. I have no idea if ping affects this; I don't even know my ping!
And the first new job guide is ninja, because Viper is its flesh and blood son. XD But seriously, great guide. I love the 'this to this' comparison where the after shows the minion acting confused that his master is gone. Please do Astrologian next. I am playing that on my alt because I don't want to double up on expansion jobs and Astro is my least favorite healer. :( EDIT: Nevermind, you did Monk before this.
The only thing I've wished since the rework occured was for ninja to get at level 60 a baby's-first Kunai's Bane. Make it 400 potency (same as the rear of trick attack) with the normal falloff that the full version gets. That way Ninja gets something at HW's end, and makes Huton have a use before Meisui. And like you said, there's not really anything going on during HW levels at this point
Appreciate the job guide as always. But one thing I would like to add is, 'Bunshin' should not pronounce 'ba' sound but 'bu' or 'boo' sound. The Japanese version is 分身の術 with 分 pronounced as bu-n (ぶん). So it should be bu-n shin/boo-n shin rather than ba-n shin.
I'd argue that using Huton for Trick Attack is worthwhile on up to 3 enemies. On raw damage, it's going to do less initially - 3 x 350 = 1050 vs 3 x 240 = 720 for a total difference of 330. subtract 300 for Trick Attack's initial damage, and you're behind by 30. If you'll do more than 300 potency to the Trick target in the next 15 seconds, that's more damage. If it kills early compared to the other targets, that helps lighten the healer's load earlier. And of course, it's good practice for endgame. With 4 targets you'd be behind by 140, and dealing 1400 AoE potency in 15 seconds is a big ask. I'm not sure you can do it even at 72 - I haven't done the math in that much detail. I imagine it'd be worth it in a trash pack like the one from Amdapor that you showed, where that goat has a LOT more health than the summoned ochus, but that's not really usable as a standard thing; only in specific cases where you know the dungeon by heart.
I really love the artistic of this class, but dislike how punishing it was compare to other class. 1) Mudra fail is a huge dps lost, ok normally but when lag spike it then yeah it whether u got Shuriken, or rabbit. :P Wish it was like Dancer but I get why they done that and work if fail it still get us something or refund Mudra like Monk you lost aoe dps but still get a sign still dps lost but better than rabbit which do nothing. 2) TCJ punish for even a slight movement, wish it work like Lay Line so you can move slightly if accidentally press it.
Love playing NIN, but damn was it a bad choice to go Marauder to lvl 10 and then play NIN through to the end of endwalker... I was struggling big time learning my rotation, while my friends were playing stuff like White mage and summoner...
I'm newer to the job, took a break from the game for 8 years because... life. Loved leveling rogue but it feels like I need to pick up a second language just to understand this rotation.😅
Every time I see a Ninja place Doton on a single target boss outside of pre-pull I can't help but mutter out loud to myself "Raiton is better than Doton, Raiton is better than Doton..."
Many times I've pressed it, just to see myself in a damage marker. I then have to decide if I can do it quick enough and get out, if I can just accept the vuln stack, or just bail and miss out on the 3k potency. Just remember dying is the biggest dps loss. Even if ya get raised immediately, the minute of debuff will outdo missing out on 3k potency. I'd only ever recommend taking the vuln stack if you know you can dodge the rest of the mechanics, and this was just a case of unfortunate timing.
I'm a F2P player so I skipped directly to the level 70 opener. I don't have ninja at 70 and I don't speak Japanese. I had -15% idea what was going on. I will do nothing to correct this.

Because NIN is extremely useful in raiding still, despite the “difficulty”. On the higher end of raiding, NIN funnels more potency into burst, thus benefitting buff-heavy comps more than VPR would. VPR, if played optimally, does require you to do some shenanigans that drift your burst out of the party buffs.
45:17 Bunshin does not benefit from trick attack as it is pet damage, it does however benefit from dokumori as dokumori increases all damage taken
