As a F2P player I appreciate that these videos do a rotation guide for the end of each expansion so that even though I can't get to max level I can still watch something that addresses what my current highest level is in the current state of play. Thank you for doing that. Also, is there a list of what jobs there will be guides for next? If not can I put in a request for summoner or scholar next? I am getting back into ff14 after being away for 2 years and I'm not sure this is a wise life choice.
Monk: starts with 1-2 combo. Ends with an Arksystemworks master combo. Based on Sabine, plays like Zell. Japes aside, thank you very much for the guide.
Monk is now my first level 70 job in the free trial! Thank you for your leveling guides, they are a big help. I can't wait to do higher level duties as a Monk!
This man helped me to understand Monk as of Endwalker and it has been one of my favorite jobs since. Endwalker changed Monk and it was great, Dawntail changed it and it was kind of weird.. then Dawntrail changed it again and it was good again. We change forms all the time, it comes with the job.
Am I on a FFXIV break? Yes. Do I plan on playing Monk anytime soon? Nope. Am I still going to listen to this man speak funny words into my ears for 50 Minutes? Fck yeah I do.
This video has further convinced me that describing sub-60 Monk as being hatefully designed isn't an exaggeration. Using Perfect Balance is a downright miserable experience without Blitz these days.
@@WeskAlber I only picked it up in mid-Shadowbringers, and can't say I've properly gotten into it prior to Dawntrail. The sheer amount of things to keep track of in days of yore just melted my tiny brain.
I dunno what the popular opinion on the dawntrail MNK reworks is, but for me at least, lets just say that while playing through ARR pre-7.0, I had absolutely no enthusiasm for playing MNK. Im now nearing the end of pre-patch HW and my lvl 60 MNK is now my favorite Melee DPS job.
One thing to note is that both Elixir Field/Burst and Flint Strike/Rising Phoenix do not have a target requirement, which means you can use them outside of combat and still get the Nadi if for some reason you couldn't use them while you were and the countdown for it is about to end. But because of that, you can actually miss it if you disengage or the boss moves away from you right before you use the skill. It's not fun having that happen and losing 900 potency of damage. 😢
I always have the fist aesthetic RPG job. Dawntrails Monk update really wants me to return and continue playing Monk. I mean I made Monk to 90 in Endwalker but it was just that because 2 2 3 ratio with tracking buff/dot was a real mess when it came to the real play. The new job gauge plus the growing training wheel buttons are big QoL changes.
One note on Celestial Revolution: it is basically always worse than just overcapping on Solar/Lunar Nadi. Let's say you're doing a Double Lunar opener like the video suggests and then make a mistake on your 1 minute burst Blitz. If you just overcap Lunar Nadi twice by doing yet ANOTHER Elixir Field/Burst is funnily enough more or less damage neutral, while going for Celestial Revolution is a huge loss.
To be fair, the job went 7 years without a rework, leading to a stifled design space on GL management for a very long time. So having 3 reworks across the recent 4 years is kind of a catch-up in modernizing it
@@hicrawl5325that’s not the solution one *should* suggest. Realistically, for people who don’t use plugins or play on console, you should try and use a LAN cable connection to your router. If that doesn’t help, get better internet.
I’ve only started playing melee and monk is the class that got me most. It’s only lvl84 and wanted some guidance if my rotations are bad lol… so about Six-sided star, so I won’t be adding this skill on my rotation? Lol, when I have max chakras I always use it. So it is only for running away mechanics? Damn. That potency blinded me, thought it’s an upgrade to slid on my rotations
No, you should avoid using Six-sided star if you can help it during ongoing combat. The ONLY use is if you won't be able to hit the boss for more than one GCD, in which case you use it as your last attack before disengaging. It takes up two GCDs and only has up to 780 potency, meaning it averages 390 per GCD used up, which is... not awful, but much worse than your basic rotations. As for the chakra, they are worth 80 potency each whether you spend them on Six-Sided Star or The Forbidden Chakra, so both are effectively damage neutral spenders of chakra. BUT, you shouldn't be using Six-Sided Star anyway, so you might as well spend it on The Forbidden Chakra like he says, since it doesn't use up a GCD when weaved.
there is another optional scenario: using SSS before execute your LB (limit break) move because it wont affect the cooldown on that (like in the video your abilities are fine vs the weaponskills) ... LB moves are like an "Extra ability". But again.... SSS is still OPTIONAL as lets say YOUR FINAL FINAL FINAL attack (like Novax said) lol
Oh, and if you aren't using either (a) The Emperor's New Fist or (b) the legendary kettles, one or the other, as your weapon glam...are you even playing MNK? (Though I do like the ShB tonfa on rare occasions...)
i agree after training some combos last month, that blue meditaion is useless.... the normal meditaion from past Expansions Still works the same to execute Howling fist and the Hado-ken moves. i always said many times to some friends and FC members: Best monk was HW years (2015-2017), imo (monk player since the ARR years); and yoshi and co dont know how to create a fighter job?? (come on, we have a LOT of fighting games, and styles moves to borrow from lol)?? it should have been (back in EW)... a let's say copy/paste Dragon SB, SHB or EW mechanics and done (kinda what happened to REaper). and Good bye to ANtman " emote " 😪
The charges that Twin Snakes and Demolish used to give were decreased by 1 each. It used to be 2 and 3 charges on them respectively. It fundamentally changed how Monk played in a way that didn’t quite fit so they changed it to be more like how Monk played in EW
So the meditation button from 15 should still be there? Why is mine acting like it's not an option then...? Mmmm.... *makes mental note for after work*
@WeskAlber Meant Steeled Meditation. I went back to start leveling PGL again for the first time since dawntrail, and the button was grey with a red line through it. I admittedly didn't dig through the action menu, and should have, but it's still weird that it happened.
I never played MNK a lot...and I know it wasn't useful in combat...but my god, I wish Anatman was still in the game just because it had such a COOL ANIMATION. Why do they have to keep removing cool LOOKING abilities?! I still miss Reload/Quick Reload on MCH. Like, why keep the Reassemble animation instead of reusing the far cooler Outlaw Star Reload animations?! I'm STILL salty about that. The rest of MCH changes I'm whatever with, but my god, WHY?!?!?
As a player who started with post endwalker and with monk my favorite class and finally gettin used to it only for them to streamline the whole thing 😢
They do not know what to do with Monk lol. I think the entire balance team has been changed since shadowbringers and theyve slowly been weeding out the old unique features Monk was known for because its simply too freeform for a 2 minute meta
another rework is almost guaranteed with 8.0 as well. whats weird is that it doesn't even feel bad to play when you get the hang of the overly complex tooltips and ui. still, just knowing the history of the job makes me feel.. idk weirdly noncommittal to it? like it's just permanently scuffed
@@tyhjyys As a monk main, I think it's fine. I don't do savage content, but it honestly seems like every other class fits some niche in a party at this point. Let monk stay fluid and noncommittal. It feels like I'm playing a new class every few months or years, it's fun.
Namco drops a Heihachi trailer, and Wesk releases an updated Monk guide the next day.

Despite the fact it’s nearly functionally identical I’m still really struggling to adjust to new Monk so it’s good to finally have the Wesk guide
Oh excellent, I was just about to start leveling my monk for DT. These guides are always a huge help

Don't got any, sadly. I guess just, do the oGCDs in that order but without double weaves?
Is there a guide on how to change my net so i can actually double weave and not clip my GCDS on MNK 😢
