New camera? Your video quality looks amazing. Great information you shared. I'll make sure to add those plants in my garden next year. Thank you Miss Jaynie!
Hi Janey, I so appreciate the information you give for each plant, especially the characteristics or structures. It helps me remember as I create my shopping list for next spring. Even though I’m only in a zone 5, I too am turning towards heat tolerant plants with climate change. I love scaveola and Lantana! 🌸❤️🇨🇦
This is awesome for those living in our hellish dry hot area! Janey and Robbie are a great resource for our area. I also found a new youtuber that lives in the Sacramento area called The Drought Proof Garden. He seems to be focusing on vegetable gardening but has good insights. Our garden climate doesn't get a lot of vlogging so I wanted to spread awareness of his channel.
Thank you for a very well thought out video! I'm in Zone8b, San Antonio, TX area and it has been my experience that my lantanas (both upright & trailing) have never been an invasive plant for me in my 20 years of the initial planting. When many other cannot handle our extreme hot temps and drought conditions, this one does extremely well. And even in the odd years of freezing temps TX experienced, these plants came back reliably.
2 more good ones here in Texas are vinca and pentas and of course my bubblegum patunias 🌸but then again. My list of hardy plants are growing lol. Sending big hugs to you and your family
Can you share some advice on petunias? I seem to always kill them. I’ve tried planting in shade with little water and with moist soil then I tried full sun with moist soil and a little dry soil. I’m in zone 9b
My Pentas survived the winter which I had not expected. I agree about the Vinca which I assume you mean Catharanthus roseus and not the trailing groundcover. They ignore the heat and look so formal.
Asters are a great choice also. Loves full sun, little water, many different sizes to choose from. Blooms start late July and go till frost. Great pernnial.
Hi Janey! That you for all the great information you give us on plants. So until next time God Bless you and your family and have a Blessed day and stay safe my dear and Special Friend.
Oh my, I like in zone 9b here in Arizona and I feel ya! It's certainly that time of the year that I also do my gardening very early in the morning! Shalom
Thank you for the information about hibiscus. I did not know that there are determinate and indeterminate varieties of hibiscus. Learn something new everyday.
I’ve planted the plants you ve suggested before and it’s working so well,I have tons of lantana ,hibiscus everywhere, and I’m sure gonna had some more of the ones you suggested today!! Thank you so much!!
You are so knowledgeable! I’m trying the ballet slippers hibiscus this year. I’m hoping I can put it in a spot where it will survive my freezing winters!
I’ve been love love loving lantana! I have it in pots on my stairs and it needs water every morning. One of my favorites for sure! I love how the little buds look like butterflies before it blooms. 😊
Great information! I am in zone 9B and have the Summerific Hibiscus Ballet Slippers in a wet area next to my lawn. It is thriving and when it blooms, it is breathtaking! 🌺M
Good morning janey!! Lantana should definitely just an annual for me here in 6b however I have a fireworks Lantana that has stayed w me for 3 yrs now lol it cracks me up bc every spring I think okay its goin to be gone but nope she just keeps "bursting" with new growth . Thank u for this video very helpful ..today were looking at 105 in my city in kansas . Going to be rough 😅
Love all of these, lantana is my favorite. First time I went to my in law's home, they had one at the corner of the sidewalk and driveway, it was a small shrub. I have no idea what kind it was, or if they still exist, that was 35 yrs ago. Here on the shore of Maryland, Hibiscus grows wild in the marsh. They are becoming fewer tho, I remember 40 yrs ago my mom would dig them up for the waterfront edge.
Calylophus doesn’t do well here in southern New England. The nights apparently are too warm. Does great early in spring but not summer time. I reread the cultural specs and somehow missed that or I wouldn’t have grown them for resale. Oh well
You had me worried a minute over my Hibiscus 🌺 I’ve never heard they had a determinate version lol I got the PW Edge of Night last year she’s so gorgeous this year! Blooms everyday … I just ordered one from Garden Crossings Summer In Paradise it looked like a warm pinky red salmon watermelon color I hope so lol Thanks 🤍🤍🤍
I guess they are so commonplace that no one bothers to mention them but Pelargoniums don't mind the heat if watered well enough. I don't consider them high water users.
So excited to see how the chatulpa does, it’s so pretty. We had a catalpa tree in western Washington and we called it the vanilla bean tree. Quick question about your berries, mine are absolutely scorched. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. We’re in the same area-ish, Weiser. Mine have absolutely scorch this year. I did replant them and put them in a different spot. They get late afternoon sun well they actually get full sun all day but late afternoon sun, do you think that could be what’s going on with them or could it be my soil?
How does the hibiscus do with overhead watering in zone 9b, full sun (I’m in Bakersfield, CA)? I have a fountain that has a pretty aggressive splash 💦 overhead which gives me a bog type area for planting and I really love the summer color that hibiscus give but didn’t think it could handle the constant wet leaves and petals with the full sun, I’m thinking sun burn? I have irises (spring bloom color) and elephant ear and calla lily, that’s showing some scorching where the overhead water sits. Any experience with overhead water (all day)+full sun?
See, this is why it’s important for us in California to look at our sunset hardiness zones. I’m also zone 9b in Northern California. I live near the coast, though, which means I don’t get the triple digit temperatures and I have long periods of gray foggy weather in the summer.
Perfect timing as always! Hands up everyone who is just dying in this heat? Houston, Texas (9A). 🙋♀️

I was thinking this as well!

Thank you - I had no idea about the determinate vs indeterminate rose mallow!
I didn't know that perennial hibiscus came in determinate and indeterminate. Bonny

Muy buen video😊

We had the worst hail storm the last day of July!!
Your flowers looks great again the dark fence. May I ask what color did you paint your fence? Thank you.
Beautiful
The camera quality is stunning btw, new equipment? Also, thought you would mention bougainvillea at some point, do you recommend it?
I have beautiful flowers

Great suggestions! Im thinking fall thoughts already 🤠Anyone else feeling fall vibes in this heat? lol
How often do you water your lawn in CA in the summer?
Does the proven winners Lantana need dead heading to continue blooming?
I wish we had even a smidge of that. Here in the U.K. we have had nothing but rain and cloud.
We are praying for rain here in Texas zone 8b🙏🏼

Please mention the zones for us in other regions....Thanks
I am shocked and pleased that not every suggestion is a proven winners plant.
