"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on UA-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on UA-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

Ryan Grim had the balls to do what Bill Maher failed to do!
Absolutely
Ryan's always on target. Who spreads the rumour that the other guy has balls?
😂 no not really, it was a lie fest.
Grim let Cruz get away with a much bigger lie - that the Dems are tryiny to shut down free speech. BP pushes that same lie all the time.
Bill Maher hates Muslims so he's not going to go out of his way for Palestinians. Not even regarding the murder of babes and children.
He's as much of a scumbag as Cruz.
"Do you condemn these direct quotes from high ranking Israeli politicians calling for the extermination of Palestinians?" "No, the Israelis aren't targeting innocent civilians." Holy shit, you couldn't come up with a more idiotic response.
South Park
@@exiledhebrew1994nah, this is the kinda thing South Park would quote to use in their show, it's so uncanny and dumb.
Do you have no faith in Ted Cruz? If given time to prepare I'm sure he could have come up with an even more idiotic response
I hate Ted and not defending him, but Hamas only operates in civilian areas. This isn’t the war we think of where troops fight in isolated jungles or deserts and they have bases. Hamas launches attacks from inside schools, hospitals, homes in neighborhood to use the people there as shields. Israel is far from perfect but this needs to be viewed from a Middle Eastern society perspective, not a western society one.
Ted Cruz: Its an appeal to genocide when leftists say it because Hamas uses it and says to genocide Jewish people.
Grim: Ok, what about when Israel uses the same phrase?
Ted Cruz: No! That's different, Israeli officials aren't saying to genocide Arabs.
Grim:
Ted Cruz: I support everything Israel says and does.
Grim should have said good, glad you cleared that up for everyone listening. Leave it to Ted to blunder into defending Arab genocide. 🤡
Exceptionalism, as paraphrased by the least exceptional.
Ted Cruz can’t even support Texas in the middle of a winter freeze.
@@davidfuentes9957omg remember that he took off !!!
Wonder how much he was paid ?! Like the rest…
Ted: "The Israeli government only targets military targets."
Ryan: "Why are they so bad at targeting since they've killed so many civilians"
Ted: "They are actually not."
Ryan: "So it is on purpose then"
Ted: Babbles like deep sea fish pulled out of water
Id say Ted got castrated in this debate, but that would require removing something that never existed in the first place.

Ryan Grims' temperament is a gift .
It would be too tempting to take Ted out right there in the studio. I don't understand how Cruz has managed to avoid being assaulted on TV so far.
@@Greg-io1ipIkr? He's the most obnoxious, punchable degenerate in the senate.
tell me about it. He remains so calm in the face of Cruz's utter dishonesty and support of genocide
@@cedricrust9953 He knows that the key to exposing right wing delusional stupidity is to calmly decimate it.

Who votes for Ted Cruz? What an embarrassing thing to hafta live with
Who votes for Ted Cruz? That's easy: people who vote republican.😒
The people vote for Cruz because they are majority Republicans so it'd take a really great dem candidate. The Dems put up Beto who most Dems weren't even hyped about
It's Texas.
As a texan.... I'm also at a loss
It's fucking Texas.
I really wanted Kyle in that room so he could do his Ted Cruz impression to his face
Meeeeeeeeehhhhhhh
Lying Ted is a sniveling COWARD!
@@agcaoiliproductions9580that’s the first thing I thought of 😂😂😂
Missed opportunity lol
Yea that would show him. Doing an impersonation to his face wouldn’t come off as childish or anything
Ted Cruz isn't even good at being full of crap, he just LOVES a camera.
And a microphone!
Did you know he has a podcast?
Sadly it’s a one-sided love affair.
Ted Cruz…IDF propagandist.
They butter his bread.
And the majority of Congress.
Maybe he can work their phone banks this weekend.
Lying Ted!!!
Ted Cruz: bought and paid for by the Chews.
As soon as Ryan Grim asks him hard hitting questions, you can read Ted Cruz face that he wants to retreat back to Cancun.
No you mean Cuba lol
Well somewhere warm…🥵
Ryan Grim is such an excellent journalist and interviewer
Grim is extremely dishonest. He let Cruz get away with the lie that the Dems are trying to shut down free speech. That is a much bigger lie. Its a lie that could end the USA. BP is letting Trump and the far right winger like Cruz slide.
Lmao. Really? He cucked himself to the squad and defends everything they do no matter what. Hes an access journalist. It’s not that hard to do
Wtf are you reading?! 😂
😂😂😂😂
I absolutely agree - he is my number one reason for subscribing to Breaking Points.
As a Muslim my heart is broken at Ted Cruz’s words. I can’t even finish the video. He says he supports everything Israel has done. How much is he getting paid aipac to support these monsters?
I feel the exact same way as a Catholic.
Probably didn't even have to pay Cruz. Psychopaths just enjoy seeing people suffer.
I'm sure it's a lot, but he probably would do it for free.
He does it for free. He hates brown and black skinned people.
Understandable, though to be honest Ted Cruz has always been a terrible person so this doesn't surprise me.
Next time I’m upset at something I’ll think about Ryan. He’s such a role model for calm temperament!
At some point Cruz should be confronted with the actual word "hypocrisy"... Not just tiptoeing around the topic. Actually ask him why he's being a hypocrite
I love how stupid Ted looks when he tries to look serious.
My favorite is the self-righteous look whenever he pivots back to his canned religious spiel... I actually go back to his campaign and GOP debates just to laugh. It makes me feel better about my life.
He looks uncomfortable to be in his body. Like he’s wearing a skin suit.
I mean Cruz is a self own waiting to happen.
🤣🤣🤣 so true
he looks like the vampire from the munsters. but more sinister
He loves it. I’m sure his wife pisses on him
@@kanedNunableyet less intimidating
That interview was hilarious. The amount of times Ted walks right into a trap was insane. 😂
"I condemn NOTHING that the Israeli government is doing."
Thanks, Ted. The door is that way ====>
😆 🤣
Mad respect for Ryan on this one.
6:30 "They do an even better job of not targeting civilians than American military". That's like saying duck shit tastes even more like chocolate than dog shit. The irony is clear and nothing more needs to be said.
Ted's face as he was reading out those quotes was like ohhhhfuuuuuck, this guy came with actual ammo, and I'm donezo.
Tbf it’s easy to dismantle him. Tho Ryan did a great job
It's tough to get in a position where you get a chance to, then to actually do it, and do so cleanly and professionally.
Love Ryan Grim. He has true style.
Ryan Grim displayed the exact journalist we all need right now. If you can set across from opposing views and keeping it this calm, articulate is exactly what our country needs. I don’t care what sides you’re on, but you need to be at the same level of understanding.
Thank you guys so much for your coverage
They dont call him Lyin' Ted for nothing
Who did Cruz have to blow to get into politics? I can’t imagine someone more incompetent and embarrassing than him.
He's completely unlikeable.
Marjorie Green? Lauren Boebert?
Donald Trump, obviously. Do you not recall the 2016 election?
His knees are raw.
I can’t believe you would make such a disgusting and insensitive statement, forcing innocent people to imagine my beloved semi-sentient mass i n t e r a c t i n g with p e o p l e.
Ryan Grim is a smoooooth criminal
For Ted to have said what he said shows a degree of psychopathy in his DNA. The man is soulless.
Thats how you handle someone like Ted Cruz calm, cool, collected and armed with devastating facts.
You really don’t have genius to beat Stupid Ted in any debate or even conversation , his only claim to fame and position is his Zionism , which he flaunts all the time . His days in congress are numbered , Texans have figured him out . Forever Palestine
I hope Ted Cruz’s wife didn’t have to watch him defend Israel like that…😣
Well Heidi's a republican senator's wife so I assume she knows she better just go make him a sammich lol
Big ups Ryan G!!🔥
Ted Cruz showing how educated he is on Israel-Palestine by lazily copy and pasting IDF talking points, despite blatantly contradicting himself in a matter of seconds...
Just so you know, "Lady Ballers" is sponsoring your show, which I find delightful, since it wastes their ad budget on a non-receptive audience and pads your bank account.
Another day another reason to love UA-cam premium
Absolutely LOVE you both!!
Ted Cruz, you’re a shame, “I condemn nothing Israhell state do” you can even defend your position
Great interview by Ryan Grim
Why dose Ted Cruz still believe that he knows how to explain anything?😴
I think it's great that people are finally hearing about more than just the Israeli point of view of doing no wrong. We all know what Hamas did was horrific and needed a response. Recently on MSNBC Donnie Douchebag went on a big rant with the only disclaimer being, "Look I know Israel isn't perfect" He needs to be interviewed by Ryan. In 1973 I started a very long blue-collar career in the Historic Ford Rouge Complex in Dearborn, Michigan. Or as the bigots called it "Dearbornistan". At that time there were 47,000 people just in the rank and file working there. It was probably by far the most diverse manufacturing facility on the planet. Anyway it was in about the middle 80's, after surviving the first Reagan term (people don't really remember how bad that was) that Ford started hiring again, I was working in the Assembly plant where we built Mustangs and They assigned a new hire named Mohamed to me to train. A very quiet and shy young man, excellent worker. At that time it was quite possible that I crossed paths with Rashida Tlaib's father. It took a while to finally get him to stop calling me Meester Joe. He was the youngest of a big family. His elderly father would drive him to work and pick him up. He really liked Western Culture but respected his Dad. Told me he was probably going to have a wife picked out for him and he had to sneak out of the house to see a movie. After the latest news coming out of Isarael at that time, I asked how he felt about it. The only thing he said was, "If you treat people like animals, eventually they will turn on you." I moved on back to my trade and was placed in a different building. We spent about a year working together and I wonder what happened to him. I still have the watch he bought me for Christmas during that time. Thanks for indulging me.
I would never be able to keep my cool questioning Cruz about israel.
3:29 Ted remembering that he's not on Fox
I think the only thing stopping Ted Cruz from moving to Israel is the fact that it's a little too far away from Cancun.
Hw should just move to Cancun then. That'll do us a big favor.
Thank y’all for telling and sharing the truth. I’m glad I proscribed ✌️.
How does this man keep his cool interacting with the most florid maniacs in the world?
You gotta remember that most of these politicians are paid to say everything they say and sold out their real positions long ago. We’ll probably never know the real Ted Cruz, but I’m not fan of his public persona.
Great videos as always, those chairs look very comfortable 😅 nottt
From the river to the sea 🇵🇸 🇵🇸 🇵🇸
Justice for all
“There is a qualitative difference”. What the heck does he mean by that?
It’s a phrase he picked up in high school debate club
I honestly can’t believe Ted Cruz didn’t condemn those statements. Truly jaw dropping moment
How you tanner than Krystal’s shirt!?!?!?😂
Nice to see you guys having Scott Horton!!!!!
😂 Dayum Teddy got smote! 😂 Thank you Ryan for crushing him 😂
Free from river to sea means everyone living equally together.
Hey guys it's that amazing actor from Ladyballers!
Where is Kyle pulling these numbers from?
Just gonna screenshot their thumbnail 😂
"How could Ted Cruz say that?" Because he knows his audience. He knows what resonates with the Republicans and the right-wing. Because with them, *the cruelty is the point.* That's quite literally their politics, it's quite literally their identity. _The cruelty is the point._
To me this shows how feelings mostly prevail over facts..I wish humans were better in this regard.
Mehhhhhhh. I’m Ted Cruize…
The Isarel don't target civilians comment was screaming out for the Jonah Jamieson meme .
"Unwoke". It's called Sleep, Ted.
love the thumbnail, like Ryan used a lightsaber to rend him in two
Love the- why are they so bad at it 😂
Kyle's lookin like Doug from 1994 in this 😅 love ya though bro lol
You can see the point at which the thinking corner of Ted Cruz's brain starts going 'RAFAEL! RAFAEL! WAKE UP! YOU'RE DOING THE FACE AGAIN!'
We need more free speach like this I hope to see the big media vanish from the news business and we return to true journalism
What about October 7?!
I swear this is just insane , the lies never stop.
Ted studied LAW in Harvard.
Let that sink in.
Is Harvard proud? Is it?
Whoa the thumbnail is BP
For perspective: Gaza is 141 square miles. The lake at Tahoe is 191 square miles. Imagine dripping bombs on a space smaller than Lake Tahoe with almost a million captive civilians…
It just shows you how scared Ted Cruz is of the Lobby.
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion […] *but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence.* Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.
Samuel P. Huntington, The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order
It's def more complicated than that. Far more complicated. For example, China was in North America before Europeans, but chinese culture has this long-standing oscillation between the outward looking mercantile coastal subculture, and the inward looking provincial agrarian subculture. When those chinese ships returned from the new world there was a change and the aggressively anti-outsider element was in power. They burned all that was brought back. This kind of cultural factor may seem like a footnote, but in fact china was technologically superior and culturally sophisticated. But the Europeans were 100% on board with colonizing, converting and exploiting all new resources. So that's a cultural value. Just one example of the complications that can be easily overlooked by simplistic analyses like "superiority in applying organized violence."
@@Kormac80 *It's "divide and rule".*
It's ALWAYS divide and rule if governments defend wrongs against the wishes of most of its inhabitants.
For the "dividers", the resulting division is always good. They can rule over the fear, the discord, the "finger pointers", and the "pointed at" alike.
The "winners"?
It those who send 3.8 billion to fund Israel each year, in Washington DC, almost all of it flowing back to the USA in the form of arms purchases...
NATO? It has been the "battering ram" for the USA/collective West ever since the end of the Cold War. It set up human beings as instruments of power, so that the true POWERS can stay out of wars, and steer/finance/manage the chaos, crises, and resulting wars...
It's how "divide and rule" works...
@@Kormac80 Empires practiced "apartheid" whereever they turned up.
*Apart = seperate = divide.*
*It's "divide and rule".*
If Hitler had arrived as a liberator to the USSR they would’ve joined his regime but he came to exterminate. The eastern front was the bloodiest warfare that the world has ever seen and the Russians defeated them. If hitler had not broke his anti-aggression pact with the Soviet Union it is highly doubtful that the Allies would’ve defeated Germany and Japan combined.
@@Kormac80 No, Huntington's quote is correct, you gave one of the silliest analyses I've ever read lol. Firstly, the Chinese in the Americas prior to the Europeans is highly disputed and is most likely pseudo-history.
Secondly, there is no 'long-standing oscillation' as you put it, mercantilism is when goods or products are made for export, as they can be sold for higher prices or are more profitable in foreign markets. Every developing economy will have a mercantile class, especially as they move away from a strictly agricultural or rural mode of production, again this can be seen in nearly all developing economies. When merchant supplies outstrip demand, there is a collapse in production and revenues that can be earned by workers producing goods, etc., this will then lead to a more predominant agricultural sector in the economy, it's certainly not due to some spooky idealistic 'cultural value' that only exists in the minds of people. The only 'cultural value' at play here is the maximization of resources and profits by the ruling classes, which is the basis of any real geopolitical power. China has been investing in cutting edge tech and capabilities for decades now, this is why they're surpassing the west, with their hypersonic weaponry and their first 6g satellite they put into orbit, their fastest high speed rail and subway systems, their largest hydroelectric dam in the world, their Huawei phones that are better than iPhones, etc. etc. etc. etc.
'Superiority in applying organized violence' is exactly how the West attained global power, as it certainly wasn't based on any kind of liberal enlightenment values that were never extended to indigenous peoples or slaves from Africa, until way late in the game and even now we have to have discussions on the legacy left behind. Gunpowder fired weaponry and horses from the 'old world' are what led to the decimation of indigenous peoples, and after they were driven off their lands and had to suffer drastic cuts in living standards, diseases from the old world were easily able to wipe them out. That's how it happened, Huntington's conclusion is fundamentally correct, like it or not lol...
Dismantles huh? You showed a ten second clip.

How dare Ryan Grim interact with my favourite semi-sentient mass!! Last I saw “Ted” (praise be upon him) display such “emotion” he had to seek refuge in Cancun!
