"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on UA-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on UA-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

It could be. It’s also possible to be a psyop to cause exactly whats happening amongst the two party system voters. Too many simple failures by the security in place and a long 30 minute warning window? It’s perfectly made with a special person that has too many guesses. Irish viewer here. Obama visited Ireland in 2011. On his itinery, he went to a sleepy village of a couple of hundred people where his ancestor originated from. Apparently, the Secret Service arrived there 3 months before the visit and began a long process of meeting everyone on the street, door to door, gaining access to every property on route and doing background checks on all residents.
This was a tiny rural village in Ireland where only farmers own firearms!
So no, I dont believe they forgot to secure a massive roof, right beside Trump's rally.
Trump is an ex president. hes not going to get the same secret service coverage
The level of communication has deteriorated in the US -- bureaucracies are just as impacted, though. Plus back then, alot of veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were being hired -- nowadays, they are not as the preference is for young and inexperienced in government and especially private sector.
Trump had about 200 rallies since getting elected in 2016. I think that's different from a one-off visit in another country
Obama's team was probably picked for competency, while Trump's was almost certainly picked on politics and strict loyalty.
He doesnt pick the secret service ya biased numpty@mechanic6682

@@Iloveswedes no, the ladder that was setup to reach the roof did not exist a week ago.
My hypothesis: Having been ejected by the Rifle Club because he wasn't considered a good shooter. In a very twisted sense, that may have been his way of getting back at the Rifle Club, by demonstrating that: "Look! You rejected me for not being a good shooter! How do you like me now?"

@@atomasvictory7636 Who is they?
The part of the story that I find most curious is, a policeman actually did climb the ladder to where Thomas Matthew Crooks was, and Crooks pointed his gun at the police officer, and then the policeman retreated back down the ladder. WHAT???!!! HUGE RED FLAG!!!
1. Why didn't that cop radio for help? e.g. "Hey, there's an armed man on top of this roof who just pointed a gun at me; I need backup!"
2. Why didn't that policeman contact Secret Service immediately, so they could get Trump off the stage asap?
3. Why didn't the policeman engage the suspect; fire at the man pointing a gun at you?
That policeman needs to be questioned. Who is he? What police force does he work with? Why didn't he follow through with seemingly any action? He seems to have failed in his duty, why?
Source?
This needs clarification
Strangely enough, it turned out that all LE were supposed to be on a common tactical channel….this according to the Bethel Township Police Chief. The policeman who spotted the shooter did transmit a warning but he heard no reply from USSS. But the USSS did make sure Dr. Jill was protected.
Cop had both hands on the edge of the roof, didn’t expect to be right there pointing a gun at him, fell back and broke his ankle. They say. Where did his alarm msg abt the shooter land, though?
My understanding is it was immediately after that when the shooter took his shots, not like an extended time before he shot.

Trump flag... huh .. you should try to embellish a story well enough when you tell the 1st,, There is no such thing a "Trump Flag" you will probabely make up some BS saying "MAGA" was written or Trump Picture,, There is Americas Flag .. If you think USA flag is Trump flag that says alot about you,, woke far left has the fag flag but republican doenot have a "republican flag" You woke never think before you speak which exposes your lies.
I appreciate Kyle’s focus on this, it’s refreshing to see fair and balanced reporting, regardless of politics and team ideology
As a person who has been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, my intrusive thoughts are not ever about harming someone else, but harming myself. In fact, my main coping mechanism when those thoughts overwhelm me is to think about how my death will harm the people who I love. That keeps me from doing myself harm, because I don't want to be responsible for causing harm, or pain to anyone else! If the shooter was looking for a 'reason' to justify his actions, he looked in the wrong place.
I missed the part about the motive becoming clearer.
Sometimes things just happen based in proximity.
He didn't donate that $15, it was a 69 year old man with the same name.
Yeah. I am surprised Kyle isn't aware of this. That information came out a few days ago!
Kyle is unaware of many things I’ve been noticing. It’s the being friends with Joe Rogan effect.
No it was proven that it was actually him
@@pojuantsalo3475 No, further reporting has concluded that was him. It was the same zip code. Kyle's colleague from Breaking Points, Ryan Grim, had reporting on it.
The NYT confirmed the donation was from him.
OCCAM'S RAZOR is the tendency for a conclusion with the least amount of assumptions to be most likely true; not necessarily the "simplest" conclusion. #PhilosophyNerdComment
in other words, NOT ALL AMERICANS AGREE WITH OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM
The donation to the PAC was reported to have been made by and older man with the same name. Would be great if you engage in some due dilligence and not just regurgistate mainstream falsehoods.
You’ll never convince me that a 20 yo depressed kid was able to just walk past Secret Service and almost kill Trump. No way…. There is more to this story than “law enforcement fucked up”.
Than lots of people would need to connected to it to make it wasnt the fault of the cop’s
Didn’t they determine it was an older guy with the same name that donated the progressive pact?
@yt45204 good to know
On that “is it political” thing… I mean that guy that got Shinzo Abe literally just had a personal beef lol
It could just be, what some have suggested, that he was just looking for someone famous to kill, so that he could go out in a blaze of “glory,” and not be forgotten. He was somewhat invisible in high school school, but all of his fellow students and former teachers are talking about him now…
I think it came out that the donation came from an old dude with the same first and last name as the shooter.
Amazing that this so called "political" reporter didn't know about and I am not even from the States.
I think I heard it mentioned twice in other talks yesterday, I mean yesterday!
Not true. The fact checks came in and it was true.
This isn't true and Kyle has gone over this in a previous video, I believe. The address and ZIP code on the receipt match that of the shooter, not the older man in Pittsburgh. The reason the city is listed as Pittsburgh is pretty clear if you've ever lived near a big city. When I lived in Shoreline, WA it was always listed as Seattle even though it was a 20-30 minute drive to the city from where I lived. Hope this clears it up for you!

@@13BulliTsThat’s what happens when your fake pundits you listen to get their news from twitter accounts instead of real journalists. No news article is corroborating that at all. Kyle is very good at vetting information and distinguishing between confirmed info and speculation.
I heard a 60 yr old man with the same name made the $15 donation, not the shooter.
The Republicans will never agree with that.
The one who said he was right wing was in Social Studies with him, I trust his view that the guy was right wing.
Also, registering Republican says a lot more than merely donating to a sketchy progressive PAC. Donating is more passive, registering with a party is an active choice.
Or his dad is libertarian and the kid in social studies in high school 4 years prior just heard no taxes and thought.. Conservative!
@@insightfulhistorian1861 what does this even mean? Who gives away their hard earned money "passively"?
@@insightfulhistorian1861 Completely disagree. Going out of your way to donate to a campaign, PAC, or cause is action. Registering to vote is as easy as checking a box when you get your license. I didn’t give a shit about politics at the time and still registered.
@insightfulhistorian1861 I think he was a Republican but I'd point out a lot of gun stores will push you to register to vote and help. I'm also not sold on this idea that Trump was too moderate given he voted in the mid-terms for a bunch of Republicans that were more moderate than Trump... and his libertarian dad, Democrat mom and republican sister were not at the rally that was so close by... Which indicates to me, at the very least his family wasn't raging MAGA.
Everyone gets that part wrong. The man that donated the $15. was another, much older man by the same name.
Thank you yes this was confirmed some time ago
The guy was a registered republican, raised in a gun family and gifted an assault rifle by his right wing father, he also apparently craved the notoriety
The kid didn't donate to the PAC. They said it was an older man with the same name.
did anybody see his little appearance in that BlackRock advertisement...?
Have you seen your meds
No - he was in a blackrock commercial
Even cnn confirmed that
He really was in a blackrock ad.
So what
@@xibalbalon8668 I have seen my meds and I also seen the blackrock commercial with this guy in it.
Basically any information released to the public at these times is all bulshit in my opinion these people want to control the narrative and having hype in the public has always been beneficial for them
Republicans should find a candidate with morals. VOTE BLUE.
Voting in a republican primary isn’t the same as being republican. Do people really not understand this?
I have not heard the word "incel" recently.
they are all very busy with the RNC convention this week
Malania turned Trump into an incel a long time ago
@@laurentdeteix3009 Yeah it's definitely the grown working men with families that are "incels" not the Hassan watching fake socialist reddit mods..... You people really don't live in reality.

Tell me you're married without telling me you're married. Oh wait..
Kyle couldn’t not mention the fact that he is married even if his life depended on it
I thought that the pac donation was from a totally different 69 year old guy with the same name
His parents called the police as soon as they realized he wasn't coming home; they had reason to be concerned as if they knew he had issues. Likely he was going to a therapist and had been diagnosed with depression and was searching about it. Not a conspiracy, don't encourage people to jump to conclusions. You're very irresponsible.
What? He 'typed' major depressive disorder'? Don't you realize how offensive this is to tens of thousands of your viewers who struggle with mental health issues?
Come one never mind the Kid 🧒
Never mind he was left or Right…
The Secret Service and police, WHY!!!
what kid? No kids are associated with this case.
One thing that occured to me, is how poorly Jared and Ivanka treated their secret service detail. Not letting them use their bathrooms for pee breaks. for example. Now if you mistreat the people that are protecting your life they might not be all that enthusiastic about doing so. "Well I would have protected you Sir, but I had to pee". I haven't heard of Trump doing this specifically, but c'mon the nut doesn't fall far from the tree.
Damn you really typed this out and thought, “Yeah, this is good. This is it. The bathrooms - it all makes sense.”
I mean its really not that far fetched, hes not saying the secret service plotted against him lol, hes just saying they didnt necessarily like the guy, like damn, pretty simple to understand @sniperrecon676
Jared and Ivanka are trash.
All reports show that Trump treats his people well. He's always been known as The People's billionaire. Treating his subordinates very well.
(Not contractors though.)
Biden on the other hand has a long history of walking naked in front of female secret service. He also would grab the family members of the secret service when they had holiday parties.
And you believe that? Why believe that when we know everything they say about Trump turns out to be made up.
We don't know if the pee break story is true. I read it was policy not to go in the homes of people you are protecting and that the Secret Service either buys a home or Condo if it's a long term commitment. The Clintons had housing built on their property at our expense to house the SS. So what if Ivanka's SS had to go pee at 3AM? You think they'd knock on the door. Of course not those things are all in the arraignments . They are not children.
Damn you Jodie Foster
OK, so Thomas Matthew Crooks was like Mark David Chapman who shot John Lennon....he just wanted to become famous and it didn't really matter who as long as it was a big name.
Why would anyone believe anything Ronny Jackson. He is a big time liar!
Dude was 20. How many 20 year olds do you know who have a coherent political philosophy?
Most are democrat. Only the smart ones become conservative as they mature.
How many poorly educated call a 20 yr old a kid?
3:50 seriously? Enough conspiracy nonsense. Just as likely as Trump staging it which is nonsense. Life is just sometimes stranger than fiction. He got his ear clipped like a damn movie. The fact we even had Trump as a President shows how wacky this timeline is.
GOP staged it 100 percent to increase poll ratings and keep people from discussing real issues like THE PROJECT.
Clipped by teleprompter glass lol
@@ObiwancolenobiThe teleprompters were unshattered.
@@mrmoonlight1001 I was mostly stating this as a comment towards "it was totally a bullet"
Because there's been zero evidence released far as I know. No images of the ear, comments from medical staff, or post-investigation conclusions.
It's just the narrative that he was 'grazed by a bullet' even if it doesn't hold to scrutiny.
He did not donate. Some old guy with the same name did.
“Reporting from the New York Tims.” 😂😂😂 Oxymoron.
Is this really the best excuse we’re gonna come up with? Ryan Grim is a joke, I t’s called tactical voting. In states with closed primaries (like Pennsylvania) you can vote for the candidate that is least likely to threaten your guy or policy or whatever. In my opinion, it is the easiest and most convenient way to “play offense” for your team, you basically vote for the other team to run the worst play possible.
Republicans infamously did this in 2008 in Ohio. They helped Hilary win the Ohio primary because she didn’t line up as well against McCain.
I am not surprised more “militant” voters are taking this approach. I am very surprised at the sudden lack of general knowledge about this very common tactic. There is a level of “low cunning” to doing this and I don’t necessarily disapprove. If 10% of each of the voting bases did this it could create some actual chaos, if 10% of just one of the bases did it…. I don’t know more noticeable chaos? Whatever!
We all know the thing about chaos.
