This is surely one of your best videos. So many fascinating ideas and possibilities there which I didn't even know were possible. Really good stuff, Leon.
Amazing how things sometimes just fall into your lap right when you're looking for them. Was trying to create something like this just the other day for making mode/arpeggio practice more interesting. Your approach is way better than the one I came up with. Only thing I changed was used the channel inc/dec footswitch option and set the range from A to C and had it wrap.
Leon! You just opened my world even further with this video! I'm a long time instrumentalist/looper and I take a Boss GR-55 and a Carvin NS1 nylon synth guitar to lay down these orchestrated "drones" to solo over with my other guitars, but doing it with an FM3 (when I get mine!) will be awesome and will reduce my gear load when I go out to play! Thank you very much for these videos, as I have commented before, they are so helpful!
@@LeonTodd Hey Leon, just added myself to the Axe FX-III wait list also! Not sure I can wait until late this year or early next year for the FM3! Trying to be patient, but you know how us "Gear Hounds" are and I want to be ready to go with some of your models, drones and presets etc. when our world returns to some sense of normalcy! LEON!!! WOWZERS!!!! I know this vids been out awhile now, but this will be perfect for my praise and worship tunes!!! IF...I can make this work with my FM9?
Most Glorious! I've only used the basic setup for this in a David Gilmour type vibe. I'm keen to try this with the open triads using the pitch block though.
Great array of tones/vibes and feelings!!!! With my job I've got to set up quite a few guitar rigs with the Kemper Profiler but never had the chance to play through it there. On a second note the guitar tech for Nancy Wilson from Heart that I was working with handed me one of her guitars to have fun with through the huge amphitheater P.A. Another time Frank Hannon from Tesla let me play his Therimin through the huge P.A. beyond awesome "D"
Very cool. I like to use the reverb block’s hold function to generate a pad. This has me thinking about putting a pitch block after it to generate harmonies with maybe just 5ths. Wouldn’t get quite the depth of a full chord, but could use any note from any key? Hmmm
Is there a way to change the transition time between scenes? so it doesn't just jump instantaneously from one chord to another? More of a gently sweep from one to another over a couple of seconds?
Awesome … I’m on the fence with FM3 and FM9 … leaning towards FM9 for more CPU, ability for two reverb blocks. I loved your video … kinda has some Pink Floyd drones with Gilmour style leads and tones … love it and I just need to make a decision and place my order … I appreciate your playing and expertise! Cheers!
I am not so far and deep in my Fm3 that i can handle that. Anyway very interesting whats possible with the FM3. Will load the preset in my FM3 to follow Leons explainations. Great Tip
Damn! I got inspired to mess with the synth block after watching one of your other videos, but I was trying to get the harmonies with the synth block voices. Never crossed my mind to use pitch block. Duhhhh! So much easier. Thank you for this video!
@@LeonTodd Thanks Leon. I'm noticing something strange with the synth block. I have voices 2 and 3 both set to 100 Hz just like you do in the video, but they sound slightly different in pitch. To get them to sound identical, I need to move voice 3 up to 111.60 Hz. From what I can see, all the other params are identical. Any thoughts as to what I might be missing?
Just figured it out. Even though the "Shift" knob read 0, it was somehow slightly not 0. I reset it to 0 by typing it in and then the two voices synced up in pitch.
Been very tempted to grab one, as I'm loving the Poly Digit which kind of does some of those things. Still, one can never have too many creative tools!
@@brianbridges8124 I still have the Zoia but not the Fm3. In the end I was always trying to mimick my real amps and using just 2 sounds. So I kept the real amp and got rid of the digital one... 😋

New to fractal and axe Fx3 and the drones. I play guitars tuned down half step. Any drone patches I’ve found are always in 440 tuning. So when playing a drone patch where scenes are switching keys they are in 440 and it m 1/2 step down. Is there anything simple I can do to transpose these patches? I know a lot of times I’ll put a pitch block in and tune up 1 tone so I can practice a song that was recorded at pitch. I don’t think what I want to do now though is that simple.
Before joining LT's channel I could have counted the number of times I heard the word Glorious used in a sentence on one hand and still have fingers left over.,. LMAO
Is there a way to use the pitch of the guitar to choose the chord root note (while of course keeping the other voices diatonic to the chosen root note?
Interesting...odd Fractal doesn't include direct Note/Chord selections vs a freq input knob in the synth block. Seems like it could be setup in a more musical way. When I get my FM3 going to have to try this out. 👍
The other way to do this would be to generate a tone and use the pitch block to switch the frequencies, which can be done an a note by note basis. I'd love if they supported midi notes though so you could plug a keyboard or controller in to play the synth.
@@johanneschristopherstahle3395 The 2101 has a built in tone generator, you can side chain a couple pitch shifters to it to make chords. Add some modulation, delay and verb for more atmosphere. Also - crazy to think you could add an FC6 and have all the chords in a scale available at your feet. That would be sweet.
Ohhhhh yes!
This is awesome. Would this be possible with the HxStomp???
Not sure - hopefully a HX user can chime in!
Not a line6 user but what you basically need is a tone generator. The hx has a 3 note OSC synth but I think that it's triggered by playing.
Would be perfect for gilmour style stuff
