TL:DW - Atomica High, greenbacks, dual delay. Happy days.
i am sorry Leon I follow your channel and I recently downloaded your IR but I can't load it because it not the format for fm3, it s .avi . Can explain me please thanks a lot
Best intro to the AXE ever - a 20 minute micro masterclass
All my respect to you, Leon. You also going simply to start with the FM3, not only showing your playing. Your so helpful to the fractal and the whole guitarplayers! Thanks very much!
Just picked up an FM3. Thank you so much for this! Now I don't feel so overwhelmed setting stuff up!
Glad I could help! Congrats on the FM3 too
@@LeonTodd Thanks man! I'm going back and watching all your tutorials.
Great video again! So much clearer now for me. I can't wait to try all your tricks on my upcoming fm3.
Thanks for this video! I'm waiting my FM3 since I'm in waiting list, looking forward to follow your guidance here. Cheers from Portugal
Thank God for this video and the rest of your FM3 stuff. This is my foray into modeling and need to get stuff setup quickly for rehearsals and gigs.
Great video Leon. I just got my FM3 and this will help jumpstart the experience a lot. I love that you reveal your rationale for your settings rather than just 'bake a cake following a recipe'. The rationale is some of the most useful instruction in the video. Thanks for all your informative and insightful instructional videos.
Thanks so much man for such a clear and beginner friendly explanation. I was unsure on how to create a preset with different amps allocated to each scene but this video really helped. Thanks!
Moving from IIXL to FM3. Feel like I'm almost starting over. Great pacing and info. APPRECIATE YOU!
Awesome as usual Leon! Your videos and tutorials are absolutely vital for Axe FX users and tone junkies! Your teaching style is simply astounding! I teach analytics programmers so I have some experience to judge, and you are such a valuable teacher and resource for these tools to help us all find our voice on the Guitar. Thank you Leon for what you do for this community!
Just got a confirmation that my unit will ship next month, I'm so exited! Thanks for these videos man :)
Well timed video, mine comes this week, can't wait! Stupidly sold my AX8 when I joined the waitlist, been waiting for well over a year! The looper trick opened up my AX8 at the time, so much easier to refine the sound when not playing
Good stuff man! This is a great vid for people starting out with the FM3! Hell, there's tricks in here that I haven't even used!
Leon, thank you so much for explaining the workflow, it helps so much as I am new to this. And you have such articulation in your narrative that everything is clearly explained and easily understood. Thank you again.
Glad it was helpful!
Leon, THANK YOU for doing these videos. They are beyond helpful especially to someone new to not only the FM3 but to the fractal world. The block library is one of the best things I got out of this. What a time saver. One thing i would like to see is a video on what method you use to tame the levels of your presets. I’m not sure of the best way to do this. I notice I have scenes and presets that have varying outputs and changing between results in some audio spikes and drops. I don’t know if this should be handled in the amp block setting or the output block setting or in the scene level settings. Thanks.
I am extremely grateful for your videos Leon! I’m hoping to get my invite for the FM3 later this week or early next week. It will be my first fractal unit, so I am soaking up your videos like a sponge. I’ll be waiting anxiously for the video you mentioned where you will talk about assigning foot switches etc. I’ve been a tube amp guy for over 30 years, so the learning curve will be steep, but with the help of your videos I already feel prepared to jump in headfirst. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I'm new to the FM3 and reading the manual can get a little dry, especially when you are trying to get up and running with this thing. This helped a lot.
Thank you so much for all of your awesome content! I just got an FM3 and videos like this are so incredibly helpful. You are the man!
My pleasure
Great stuff! I just got my FM3 last week so I’m gonna be all over your channel in the next couple of weeks...
FM3 arrives this week -- thank you for such an awesome intro video!!
I've had my FM3 since December ... just getting going with it now. Leon, thanks for your video posts ... so helpful. This video in particular is awesome for someone like myself about to build my first preset!!!
Glad it helped!
Always so clear and informative. Always appreciated.
Great video bub! That chorus was killer. 🔥
Great introductory video. Thanks, this has been a big help since I am very new to the FM3. Cheers!
My pleasure, and congrats on the FM3
Nobody does it better! You just made me aware of the template feature & how to use the block library. Just set one up! These fundamental videos are perfect in my opinion. Exactly what I needed. I did connect my FM3 to my audio interface via S/PDIF. I noticed I need to set the OUT2 knob to max like a unity gain setting to get decent levels in my DAW. Appears I still need to have the OUT2 block on the grid and connected to IN1 even though I set the S/PDIF global setting to mimic Input1 for like DI use which I found odd. 👍
yes! thank you so much! i’m a newbie and your videos have helped tremendously! 🤘🏼
Perfect timing Leon for an FM3 video!
Mad hype on the forums; FM3 invites are going through about a month of preorders per week. I am April 28th, 2020! It hurts so good!
Maybe you can make a new video for new FM3 owners about mid October; should be through the preorders by then.
Thanks to you and Marco Fanton for keeping me sane while I wait :)
Cheers!
Thanks. I love this video. It is like a very thorough Quick Start guide for gear. It will definitely serve as a valued reference. Even though I have the FM3, I thought that it was humorous and ironic that you used the phrase “back in the day” when you referred to the AX8 because I bought the AX8 after the AXE FXIII and it still sounds and works great. It still looks brand new. Having said that, I’m sure that you learned that unit inside and out long before I got mine. I’m going to go back and hang with my dinosaurs now. ; )
Amazing tones! 👏👏👏
Well done Leon! Thanks for sharing brother and Be Well All!
Thanks, you too!
Fantastic videos on the FM3. I’m making the switch from Headrush and your content is very helpful.
Great to hear!
As always, extremely helpful!
Really helpful pointers...thank you!!
A link to this video should come attached on a blacker than the blackest black string to new FM3s like the QA card. Well done.
thanx Leon!! awesome insights!!
Best overview demo I have seen.... Great Job Leon
Glad it hit the spot!
Leon...Will you ever do a deep dive into the Pod Go to compare with the fractal? I want someone with your talent to give us the truth.
Excellent tutorial video 👍
Thank you Leon! Great video👍💪👏
Wow very cool thanks for the run down good stuff
My FM3 arrives this Thursday. This video is incredible helpful for Fractal newbies such as myself. Love the block save feature and the idea of grabbing blocks you like from existing presets. Any initial setup advice for first time users?
Like to see a Deep Dive and go thru setting the 3 foot switches since your an excellent teacher. It's the most confusing thing with the FM3. Most of us guitar players are visual learners.
This is awesome......thx Leon
Subscribed man, very well explained. Waiting on my FM3 to get here!!!!!!!😀
Welcome aboard! Congrats on the FM3, super fun !
@@LeonTodd Thanks Leon. I will be on your channel watching every one of your videos!!!!!!!!
Just got my first Fractal product, the FM3, this video is really helpful.
Awesome! let me know if you have any questions you'd like to see covered.
@@LeonTodd I have so many that I'm going to save the trickier ones so I don't wear you out :)
Great video brother I’m new to the game saved me weeks of pain
Welcome aboard!
Great tutorial, really twists the knife of these products being nearly unobtainable though haha
Extremely helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Why didn't I watch this in 2020 when I got my FM3? It's more complicated than my other modellers, but you still make it accessible
Thanks mate. The feature set on this really is stunning.
Excellent Video!!
Thank you very much!
fantastic video Leon. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@LeonTodd Hey Leon, you had mentioned in the video that there are a few amps that are great without modification right of the box. Are you able to list a few of them? thx
Your videos are the reason I just bought an FM3.
Great tutorial as allways. Can your showcase how the sounds will translate to a typical setup in a band rehersal environment or on stage? Probably you have to add an eq to adapt to your cabinet(s)? I can imagine to substitute an amp and all the fx but to monitor my sound I would use my favorite cabs and a power amp.
I just got the invite from G66. I should get my FM3 at the end of January. This video is the perfect introduction!
Awesome. G66 are a great crew
Leon do you know what you are? A good man thats what.
you're too kind mate!
Great intro to Fm3 Cheers.👍🏻
Glad you like it!
@@LeonTodd When mine arrives I will revisit your tutorials. Cheers
Great great video thank you!
Do you have a video showing how you use all of those scenes and channels in a simulated like show?
Like how physically you step of which buttons for all of this to work?
Thanks man!!
dude has 3 ada mp-1's ! sweet
BRAVO !! Thank you sir.
very useful. Thank you
Needing to just run effects with no amp blocks and 0 cab sims to use with Synergy SYN2 preamp on my AXE 3 like Vai deos.and NEED HELP.!!. Thanks for the awesome videos Leon! This might even be a good idea for one of your next videos🤔 Have an awesome day buddy🎸🎵🎶🎼🤘
You know what I did, I gave up and just modified the Fender presets to my liking leaving the cabs that were pre selected.
Good enough. Fractal opinion in pairing the amp with cab has got to be better and quicker than I can do.
From scratch can hop off a cliff.
Hey Leon very informative videos as usual..hope u can do a tutorial how u deal or tackle with fletcher munson at high volume tutorial with fm3..stay safe and be well brother
Check out my FRFR tips video I did a month or so back
Ok, here’s a question I’d love you to address. What’s the best way to use tube amps with the FM3? Especially, if your amps don’t have effects loops and your main output is still to FRFRs.
Leon - I've been a Headrush user and just bought an FM3. Moving from a tube amp + pedals to the Headrush was a big step, and I was real nervous about moving to the FM3 after hearing about the 1,001 ways you can tweak your tones... BUT... this video in particular has been extremely helpful in wrapping my head around the Fractal interface. Yeah, it's literally got 1,001 ways to tweak your tone but after watching this video I better understand what the controller does, what the channels do, input boost, etc. Cheers mate!
Appreciate it mate! What sort of music are you playing with it?
@@LeonTodd Right now... no music yet. Still working to replicate the sounds and presets I have in the Headrush Gigboard. Since the Headrush had limited metal tones, I'm really looking forward to digging in to the all aggressive tones in the FM3.
@@maverick_trail excited for you! So many great high gain tones in there
Blocks Library...how cool is that...That’s gonna make my life easier...I have had my FM3 about a month now..still figuring everything out...Are you using a Mac or PC for your FM3 Edit??I have a Mac,I didn’t know if the “right click”thing worked on a Mac??......Thanks for these videos...they go a long way towards learning this thing...
Leon thanks seems nobody else does a basic setup. For beginners especially ..thanks.also once you plug guitar into the fm3 i know you can use it as a interface like a DAW.but what speakers are you using or recommend to out the signal do have a pair of fostex monitors
New to the FM3, and really digging your videos! Is it possible to control more than four parameters using Scene Controllers?
Great Job Leon. Which speakers do you recommend for the FM3. I just don't play live at home.
Leon I think I'm gonna sell my one and only amp head (Peavey Invective 120) and buy this. You do such a great job of showcasing what this unit can really do and it truely sounds fantastic as I've said 100 times before lol. I believe I'm gonna make the switch. I've had a Line 6 Helix (sold it) I've had the Kemper (sold it) and I've even had the Boss GT-1000 (also sold it). I really wish I had kept the Helix though, that unit was pretty damn awesome! All of them have "their own thing" that is really awesome but I'm loving the flow of Fractal units.
Do iiiit! What are you going to amplify it with?
Dude that’s an awesome amp! Tough decision. I had an old Boss GT-5 which I still use for FX but - I just got my FM3 and am thrilled with it so far! You’ll love it! Fractal lowered the barrier of entry with the FM3 product without sacrificing tone, features or quality. Well done Fractal! 👍👍
Brandon, did you get the FM3 already? The Helix or the FM3?
I mean, which one you preferred?
Have you had any ground /electrical noise with Fractal devices? I think it could be a great topic when connecting different devices and how to deal with the gnr loop switch
hi Leon , great stuff as always . I use to play P&W in my church and setting the delay BPM per scene is crucial , once we play over multi tracks and most of the time there is no time to access the tap tempo . I know how to do it on AX8 but on THE FM3 I'm lost . could you please help me with that ? thank
LOVE these videos Leon! - especially since I got my own FM3. haha Can I ask you: What software do you use to record FM3-EDIT and yourself in another window at the same time, or do you have to put it together later in some video editor?
I use Quicktime to capture Axe-Edit and I use my camera to film myself. I sync everything up and edit it in Final Cut.
Hello Mr Hobbit.
Just want to say that I wasn’t talking about you, but it seemed like I unwittingly played with fire on the fractal forum, and really found out some eager snooty forum dwellers. I was referring to someone else, but most certainly not you. I got confused, and even now I am trying to keep that name to myself, like I did on the forum, but they seemingly wanted anything they could get to get angry! Sheesh.
Thanks for the chill and videos.
Hey Leon, great video. You set the low cut to 80 in the preamp tab right around 2:30. Do you get into details about this in another video?
Hi Todd, Your videos are incredible! Congratulations for your work! According to your experience with the "fm3" do you think that for us to extract the best sound, the factory cabinets and IR's are enough.. or even the best option? Or do you think that good ir's like ownhammer for example, can give us an even better sound?
I use one of my own IR's but the factory IR's are fantastic as well. All a matter of taste!
Could you do a Mesa lone star lead through the fm3 and show how? Looking to invest in a fm3 instead of getting a few more amps. I already have a mark iv, KSR Juno, Engl inferno (best of the line IMO and a sleeper) and Laney TI100.
Leon - your content is simply awesome as new FM3 owner. Question - would you recommend that technique of the input boost in the amp block as the best way to get a solo boost for say a lead scene rather than using the scene volume controls in the output block?
Much appreciated mate. If your amp is already breaking up then the input boost won't provide a volume boost, it will just provide more saturation. The scene volume will give you an actual volume boost no matter what!
I just looked at getting one of these. $999 USD seems like a good deal, especially considering the unit can also be an interface. Then I saw NZ peeps have to buy it from the middle man dealer in Aussie for about twice the price. Get stuffed Fractal. Not sure which way I will go now. Probably get round to master volume modding my JMP 50 build and running IRs off my Captor load box (amp is too hot for the load box without the PPIMV mod). Digital is just so easy to plug and play at home that it is tempting, e.g., one click of my mouse to open Amplitube 5 and I am good to go. No blown transformers and worn valves to worry about either etc.
Ignoring the features and the tones, breaking down the prices looks like this - Fractal lists the MSRP as $1299 USD on their site, which is about $1650AUD. Add freight, import duties and factor in warranty/support from the distributor and it works out about right IMO.
It sounds incredible, it's compact and as you mentioned there's no upkeep in tubes/transformers. If it's too much of a stretch, try find a used AX8 or an Axe-Fx ultra which still sound awesome and go for a bit cheaper now.
Hey im having issues with some presets were its extremely bright no matter what I do. even high cut at 4khz its insanely bright. any advice? im playing a strat with either jbl lsr 305 monitors or audio technicha atx m40
do you bypass the reverb when you are soloing with a delay block engaged? or do you keep the reverb on?
When you download a preset off of the fractal audio page do you use the fractal bot to upload it to your FM3?
Really interesting and informative lesson. I recently purchased the fm3. I am running it through 2 headrush FRFR speakers 8 inch. It is not sounding great out of the box. I watched several of your tutorials and copied a few tones, but mine sounded a little muddy and overly distorted in a not desirable way. I tried your malmsteen tone, amp reverb and delay seemed good, but adding the DoD distortion pedal did not give it the nice compressed singing boost and just muddied up the sound. A friend suggested that the speakers need to be tuned or EQ-Ed. What are your thoughts on this.? Low cut was done on the cab block as you suggested also. Love your playing and great channel content. Cheers
Yeah those Headrush speakers aren't bad but they're definitely not flat. There's a thread on the fractal forum about flattening the ehadrush response.
Just in time, got mine yesterday.
Enjoy! When did you sign up for the waitlist? I signed up in May, and still waiting - feels like forever.
@@Daneidorff Holy crap, guess I'm never getting mine. Just signed up a couple weeks ago. Luckily I'm happy with my AX8.
iceman7511 Hoping for under a year🤞
Hey Todd, thanks so much for this video! I'm new to Fractal and getting mine in a couple of days. I will be running it into Seymour powerstage 200 then into my 4x12 cab. Do you have any vids on that to get it setup to sound the best, or recommend any vids on that subject? Thanks!
Not really, you won't need the built in cab sims but otherwise plug it in and go!
So the output block, output 1... is that an output jack on the back of the unit or probably more likely assignable elsewhere so that your SP/DIF is constituted as Output 1? Is it stereo when it receives a stereo source and mono when it receives a mono source? I wonder what happens at that Output block.
People could theoretically connect some studio monitors right there and have a portable amp, or they could send that to the interface and record stereo line level perfection, or it could go to front of house. So the mono/stereo question perplexes me.
Reason I ask, is you’ll record DI signals from time to time when tracking parts and save that to rerun the audio and get an alternative sound. Alternatively you could record the dry signal at that CAB block by connecting that to an output, and do all of your effects post process, and record them separately as a studio might do.
But that would entail two outputs, one of them wet and the other dry, and with the wet being stereo, it would have 2 ch out, and the dry 1 or 2 (typically one). I’m sure others have their Fractal wired this way with multiple out options. It seems like the logical thing, albeit not the most simplistic.
Regards, I watch a ton of your Fractal videos and enjoy learning.
PS, wanted to see CPU usage.
[typos]
Even better, you can use the FM3 as your primary interface and cut a wet track and unprocessed DI to seperate tracks in your daw - all via a USB cable.
You can assign the spdif source to be output 1,out 2 can be independent of our 1 or mirror it - lots of options.
Aloha Leon! Thank you for all your videos. I run my fm3 through a matrix amp and out a matrix 2x12 neolight or Marshall 1960 4x12 slant. Should I turn off global cab IR and build from there? With global cab off, is it a matter of dialing in the amp/effects? I like the amp in the room sound and couldn’t get it using FRFRs. Is there a video you have done on using a guitar cab? Mahalo, Rob
Global cabs off works fine!
thank you for your video ! What preamp do you prefer for rehearsal using with band? (metal - with cabinet 2x12 stealh evh)
I use the FM3 for everything. Run it into something like a Matrix power amp or Duncan powerstage if you want to use with a cab.
Hi, you've made mega sound, you can download it somewhere for the FM3. Kind regards
Hey Leon do the fm3 DI sounds like the axe 3?
Awesome
Any chance you could try out/discuss the feasibility of doing a stereo direct (out 1) + mono poweramp/cab (out 2) patch with the FM3? I do this on an Axe FX II. It would be nice to ditch the rack/MIDI board, have my cake, and eat it too.
Should be doable - place the cab block last, make the cab block stereo (use. thesame IR panned hard left and right) for the DI, and split to out 2 just before the cab. Set out 2 mode to sum L+R.
Dig it. My next purchase
Do it!
Great video Leon, can you please tell me the beautiful yellow pedal board you are using as i received my fm3 today. Got inspired after seeing your reviews.
Nux Bumblebee
@@LeonTodd Thankyou
Hi Leon, I am thinking of using the FM3 together with my traditional pedal board (I would probably use some FM3 modulation and EQ effects as well). How does it work if I want to switch between say 6 to 8 favorite amp models on the fly (similar to a large Synergy rig aka Billy Corgan)? If I understand the FM3 correctly, there is many in memory but you can only switch between 4 at any one time? Thanks for an explanation to help me decide on the FM3. Maybe you could do a demo for the traditional pedal board user?
4 channels per amp block, one amp block per preset - just use two presets with your favourite amps between them!
Hi, do you still provide links to your dropbox for all the fm3 blocks I am really trying to find the symphonic flange settings. thank you. The tones are wonderful.
Try this - axechange.fractalaudio.com/detail.php?preset=8352
Thanks Leon , very helpful !
No problem!
Leon. These vids are great! Just got an fm3 this week. Question: if one has saved then applied blocks from the library to many presets; then after a while decided to change the block settings and re-save the block; are all the presets referencing the block updated?
Not in that case. The Axe-Fx III had a "global blocks" feature which will do this though
@@LeonTodd Thanks Leon. Much appreciated!
Is there a polyphonic octave feature like the boss octave has?
You can use the virtual capo for that
