      I wanted to slap Joe Biden across the face after he said that. He has no idea how fucking hard it is. College was cheap as hell when he was growing up. It only cost 8k to build the house i own today in 1957. I bought it from the original owner. It is 142k today! I started working 20 years ago for 5.50 an hour. I got a bachelor's degree and the most i have ever made was a salary position for 32k per year. (About 15 per hour if i only worked a 40 hr week and i always had to work more than that)

    • @ThimbleFox350
      @ThimbleFox350 5 років тому +35

      Joe really said he has no empathy for millenials? Who are paying upwards of 4 times what his generation paid for college? Even anecdotally, when I started looking at state colleges here in Illinois when I was 19 the cost was ~9000 dollars a year, now only 4 years later the price is at least 5,000 more per year. It's ridiculous that they get no sympathy because they're "young". Completely fucking stupid because you need to have housing, education, and healthcare at any and all ages.

    • @angelabluebird609
      @angelabluebird609 5 років тому +8

      @@ginadelsasso288 Shocking that he said that! Still, it is important to note that college, houses and the like were cheaper then, but people also earned less then, so relatively speaking, college, houses, etc. were not cheap-cheaper than it is now, but still not affordable for many, many people/families. There was a significant change, though, beginning in the mid 80's-it became almost impossible to work one's way through college-impossible to do in four years, to be sure. We can each do our part to get Sen. Sanders elected, and ask our friends and families to do the same. As Bernie says, "It is not me, it is us," and he is absolutely correct! What I find even more ridiculous is people who think they should not support tuition free college, trade and tech education and Healthcare for All. Other industrialized nations do this because it is a very sound, wise investment: a healthy, educated citizenry can uphold a strong economy at home and compete in global markets. Duh.

      I'm Canadian and even I understand this. I had so much pressure on me growing up, and I internalized it to the extent that anytime I failed in the "real world" (not getting interview callbacks, screwing up at work, not getting into a particular university program, etc.), that somehow there was something "wrong" with me.
      It wasn't I got into my mid-20s or so that I realized how much luck plays a role in career success and life outcomes. And a significant part of that luck is dictated by upbringing and childhood circumstances. Once I realized this, I started feeling less and less guilty about my lack of success.
      I look back now on my childhood and realize that many of my friends who have had "success" (e.g. high school valedictorian, getting into med school at an early age, climbing the corporate ladder, etc) in their lives benefited tremendously from a head start in the form of a stable home and good parenting. Which doesn't diminish their success, of course, but puts it all in perspective.

Cuba's a small island so they tend to rely on tourism. When Obama normalized relations with Cuba, tourists started to return and the economy started to rise. Now it's down again because why? Socialism? No, we replaced the embargo on Cuba and stopped tourism.

    Walking down the hall of an MTF (military hospital) I overheard two Airmen discussing the ‘evils’ of socialism and gov. interference in the ‘free market’, iow Fox News talking points. It stunned me that they saw no irony in the fact that they were having this discussion in a gov. facility that was providing them with - free at point of delivery - health and dental.
    I don’t know what their jobs were, but I do know that jobs in the military range from cooking food to working with satellites; all requiring training from a few weeks to years. And all that training is not only free to the member, but - during - they are paid, fed, and housed. TrUmP says, “America will never be a socialist country…” But we already have socialism. And in the most ironic of places. The catch of course is you have to be willing to lay down your life. But why should that be the only way? It's up to us.

      @Russ Ingram So much to unpack here. First, when Bernie proposed Single payer, it was Republicans and neo-liberal Dems who screamed socialism. Like it's a dirty word,like the two service members in my anecdote.
      Second, if workers controlled the means of production does that mean we’d have no form of government? That we wouldn’t have healthcare free at the point of delivery, no matter who you are? That we wouldn’t provide for the training of the professionals giving that care, as well as other special skills necessary to the welfare of the nation? And so many other things.
      As it stands Capitalists - especially the major corporations and Wall Street - rely heavily on socialized cost and risk. 2008 should have made that obvious to us all.
      The truth is Bernie is a New Deal FDR Democrat more than anything else. Which is why the oligarchs hate him. Just like they hated FDR. They dread a government of, for, and by the people.

      Biden said “I have no empathy for millennials” and “nothing will fundamentally change” to a group of rich people. The opposite of Bernie. Delaney’s whole schtick is that he isn’t a “radical” like Bernie.

    I paid over $2000 for a gram of marijuana when i was 16... spent days of my life drug testing, made it difficult to balance work school, and my court ordered actions. $2000 was a significant amount to me as i only made about $7 an hour. As the drug testing facility was only open 4 hours a day.... any contact with the police at all would land me in jail. Considering some people have families and business to take care of this could dramatically affect their lives and provide a financial burden. these are all problems people are dealing with for a measly gram of marijuana

I could tell he was trained and had many years of practice because I thought it was coming from a speaker until I saw him. He thanked me so much because I gave him five dollars. Then, it got me thinking about how important it is that we come together and elect politicians that represent us. I hope and pray you knock on every door to get this man elected. I live in Canada and we have had Medicare for All since 1965. I have never had to pay a medical bill in my whole life because a guy named Tommy Douglas stood up and fought for universal health care just like Bernie is doing for you now. For God's sake get this guy into the White House.

    I'm not American and not in America but this video is amazing as a tool to actually encourage young people on the importance of voting.

    Debt is deciding. Yep, and that is a terrible design to force upon people. I may be preaching to the choir, still, as a system designer let me say here, definitively, that we can do better, way way better. We can do so much better in fact, that even a cursory review of the other possible legislative and governance systems that can be built and maintained to deliver and protect our freedoms, social stability and overall life quality , even a cursory review, should make you angry that the existing representatives and legislators (and their aggregate support organizations) are performing so poorly in service to us, literally preventing life from improving for a majority of the people, and really all life in our nation for the benefit of a very small economic minority THAT DOES NOT DESERVE ALL THAT WEALTH ANY MORE THAN WE DESERVE SO LITTLE because the relationship it has locked us all in to is one of violence and degrades us all.

    I love you Bernie. I really wish you had won in '16, but I will take 2020. You have my vote.
    Everyone, PLEASE vote in the primary and again in the general election. Our lives depend on it.

    Literally none of other major candidates could sit in a group of young people, much less in a group of young people of color, and be so genuine, to actually listen to their struggles and empathize as a human being does. Bernie is a gem and I hope he's given a chance to actualize the ideals he's been consistent on for decades.
