  • Karen Read is on trial in Dedham, Massachusetts, accused of killing her boyfriend, police officer John O'Keefe, by hitting him with her car and leaving him to die. Her defense attorneys argue she's being framed as part of a larger law enforcement cover-up. Law&Crime's Jesse Weber breaks down everything you might have missed during week one of trial.

      First you need to believe, and then just ignore inconvenient facts. If I saw the scene I would be asking “I hit him?” because the scene as staged allows no other option. Her shock and disbelief allowed no other possibility. Until you look closer, with a clear head. The FBI says cars don’t bite- which was my conclusion-the only reason I even became interested. I have estimated thousands of wrecked vehicles including pedestrian hits. I cannot think of a part that would create deep, uneven scratches in the BACK undercarriage. All cars now have large under-shields to protect components and people. The marks could only be made by something contacting the skin repeatedly- they are not even in scale or depth and could not be made by something mechanical unless she backed over him numerous times at different angles. Impossible.

    Maybe Karen Read did initially believe she killed him. Not in a malicious way like the prosecution is arguing, but accidentally as in being unaware that at some point in dropping him off she hit him with her car. Then her belief changed once the defense unearthed info suggesting a different incident being covered up such as the "Hos long to die in the snow" search, rehoming the dog, remodeling the house and the creepy behavior of the investigator, Proctor.

    • @DalePepin-ph7vb

    • @enzoinfinity1
      @enzoinfinity1 Місяць тому

      Her belief didnt changed. Let me explain you why. She said in a national interview that she saw him walk inside the house and waited 10 minutes outside before leaving. You know what this mean right? That she could not have hit him when she dropped him off… The only remaining possibility is that she lied and she did hit him. Which mean the entire cover up theory is worthless.

    • @enzoinfinity1
      @enzoinfinity1 Місяць тому

      her entire theory rely on her seeing him enter the house. But her behavior on the following hours and her words nullify that possiblity. I dont know why the prosecution isnt hammering the case with that. The defense lawyer knows she did it hes smart so hes trying to hammer for hours the witness who heard her say she did it even tho they are telling the truth. But at some point you cant discredit the cops, the paramedics, firefighters, nurses, doctors…. But people are very gullible so who knows.

    It's completely unnecessary to frame her or anyone in order to cover up something they did,
    so why do something that's unnecessary?
    They could've just said that they accidentally hit him with their own car...
    All the investigator had to do was put it down to an accidental death...they would be cleared and it would be case closed....
    Nothing reasonably explains just why they would frame someone else..
    and especially if they had all these people on their side willing to lie and cover up for them.
    Then it would have been much easier for everyone to just say... it was an accidental death.
    If the Alberts hurt him yet believed his injuries would still pass for an accident (and for her claim to be true this would have to be the case)...
    ..then why didn't they just say they accidentally caused his death and the injuries were a result of them accidentally hitting him?
    There is no need to involve or frame her in order to escape accountability, if they had such power as she claims then,
    if they said it was an accident, that's exactly what the investigatior would have went with it.
    It's not only more difficult to accomplish and control framing her than just saying accidental death but it brings unnecessary risks to them,
    which they didn't need to do in order to successfully pull off a cover up.
    The answer that requires the least assumptions is usually the correct one.

    she was drinking the night before.. memory is probably a little fuzzy.... might be why she made the statements she did... but lets listen to the whole case obviously...

    The judge though, not on her side either. Hope she is not found guilty.

      That’s because she’s has ties to Albert i truly believe she was framed but who knows innocent until proven guilty. I think she’s innocent..wasn’t some of the EMTs or firefighters friends either the Albert’s or McCabe… she searched how long it takes to die in the snow… the got rid of the dog right away and sold the house… law enforcement suddenly didn’t have their rings working that night..

    For me it’s all about the motive, and I just don’t see it. Having survivor’s guilt (“I killed him!”) is pretty common. They appeared happy at the bar that night. He wasn’t beating her. They weren’t married. There was no insurance money or custody to be gained. Why would she kill him??

      I truly don't believe she meant to. 😔

    Saying " its my fault""🎉 I did this " could just be guilt feelings, not that she physically did it. I've blamed myself for bad things that happened even though I had zero to do with it. It could be a situation where she feels that if they weren't arguing he wouldn't have been at that place and would have been with her instead. Hence.... I did this. I have a gut feeling that she is innocent.
