To add a note: Some tensioners you need a 19mm Socket. And I was able to get to the bottom bolts if my washer fluid reservoir from underneath by removing a few clips. Great video. Love the people do these to help everybody save some money.
Yup, mine wasn't a 14mm. I had a 3/4' socket that fit snugly, so that's what I used. This was a nasty pain in the arse job. The Japanese engineers that designed the clearances must have been stoned!
Hello, the top alternator #12 bolt just wont loosen on my 2000 odyssey. Lefty loosey? Do i have to do something on the other side of the screw? Thanks tons
Hmmm, that's weird. It should just come right out (yes, lefty loosey). You could try putting a flat-head screwdriver between the head of the bolt and what it mounts to and try prying the bolt out WHILE ALSO turning the bolt with your wrench. And probably the easiest way to pry it is just by twisting the screwdriver while turning the bolt and the twisting will push the head of the bolt out. Hopefully that makes sense. There's no secret, I don't believe, just need to give the bolt some help getting out while turning it.
Did that on a '06 yesterday. Took this old man almost 5 hours, but it pumps 14.4v instead of 12.1v now. Got into the van to turn it on a test it and I found the silver button from the shift knob on the floor. So, I have one of those coming. It is endless, isn't it?
Wow! I found my shift knob on the floor a few weeks ago, like, wtf is this? Didnt figure it out until i had to be somewhere in 30 minutes. The SHIFTER KNOB! Now how do i even shift. Thankfully Im good at fingering stuff, and fingered that out. Just a reminder, if your alternator went out, and has any oils on it, thats most likely why it went out. If you dont wanna hafta replace that alternator again, and Im on my 4th alternator in 5 years now, I highly suggest fixing the solonoid leak and if necessary, that front valve cover could be leaking. Also, Im on my 2nd high pressure power steering hose today too.
@@richardinman6822 $50 bucks for that stupid little silver piece of plastic. At least it was only a 5 minute job. There was no oil on the old alternator thankfully.
Bro at 6:20, I can't tell which hole you pulled the longer of the two bolts out of the bracket. There were two bolts under that wire harness right? You cut a piece of video that is only critical in my current situation. Lol. Do you remember anything about it?
Well, you're in luck. I went back and found the original videos when I filmed this. The top bolt that attaches that bracket is the shorter one; the bottom bolt is the longer one and a portion of that longer bolt isn't threaded. Hopefully, that's the info you're looking for.
if the alternator fails in your honda, you are better off to park it in the town ghetto and wait for it to be stolen. will save you a lot of headache with this garbage engineered vehicle. this is a fine video. I got asked to change my sister in laws honda odyssey alternator. i can tell she recently had the ac compressor replaced. wtf didnt she just replace the alternator while it would have been easy. alternators are cheap

And tiny!
Thank you SO much. I was having problems with the wire harness clips on an 08. You were the only poster to show what goes on. I appreciate it!
You're welcome!
Great explanations and descriptions.
Thanks! 👍
Our van's alternator just yesterday. Which brand did you use? I called a dealer wants 700 for a Honda refurb. part only.
I bought mine from Rockauto.com. The brand of alternator I bought was TYC.
Did you get one with a vcm or without do you have a vtec vcm engine?
Mine isn't the VTEC VCM version.

Nice work my guy! Very helpful 👍
Thanks!
Another awesome video!
Thanks!
Did the battery light go away for good?
Yes it did.
Great vidéo tks. We saw some oil on your hands and you mentionned an oil leak... that leak maybe the cause of the alternator problem.
Yeah that's a Honda common problem VVT block gaskets

1999-2004 is mostly different. They use the same Alternator, but access, bolt sizes, etc. are totally different.
Your video should get more views!
