So helpful thank you..sometimes I get despondent listening to some of these UA-cam ‘experts’ but at last someone who is positive about drone laws..thanks.
Thanks Phil!
Great video, was so confused with the restrictions but this helped clear some of it up :) thanks. Was getting out off a little by all the yellow areas and the CTrs.
good video mate looking at some apps you defo would be put off cheers for shedding light on this.
Thanks Johnny!
Extremely helpful Paul, thank you.
Glad it helped Russ!
Thank you ‘very’ much indeed for this in-depth information which I’m sure has taken you quite a while to gather then produce the video » extremely helpful thanks. 👍
Thanks James. I think it was well worth doing. Feel free to ask if there is anything I have missed!
@@paul-thys yes, well worth explaining and made me feel better; rather than horror! Thank you 🙏
@@paul-thys you might like Drone Scene too. It includes all these map layers plus National Trust data sets and it even includes the DJI GEO restrictions data set as well 😊
@@Cransridge2288 nice one! I will download this a give it a go!
Thanks Paul, I use the Drone Assist and here in Cumbria it shows a small Yellow area around Keswick. This is because the RAF use the area for low flying exercises, so low that many photographers get photos from "Above" the planes. I've used my drone in Keswick and up the Borrowdale valley and around the Honister Pass areas. But I have done it at stupid o'clock in the morning so as to avoid any RAF flights. I would imagine that it's the same in the Highlands, my brother lives in Argyll where they also have (very) low flying exercises.
Aw man, not gonna lie, I would love a shot of the RAF from above, but there is no way I would risk it!
@@paul-thys I think he means they take photos of the planes from the mountain tops as the planes fly through the valley below, not with the drones LOL 🤭🤭
Nice...👍.
Thanks 😊
What I find odd is that Altitude Angel reports the area around where I live (Manchester) as being totally restricted, whereas DJI doesn’t. So I checked NATS and weirdly, the DJI app is right and Altitude Angel is not.
Hi Paul, some great information that has really cleared up some of my worries whilst flying. I have a question, if you could help me?
I fly near Tetbury in Gloucestershire and there is a restricted airspace that covers half of Tetbury (to do with HRH Prince Charles' residence Highgrove House). I am unable to find any information as to whether drones 'are' or 'are not' allowed to fly within the airspace. Any info would be really appreciated
Hi Nik, the Highgrove house House airspace is restricted so to fly here you would need permission from NATS
@@paul-thys Thanks for the response. Finally, some clarification. Thanks again! 😊
Hi Paul,
first of all thank you so much for the video,
I'm coming to visit London in a few months, and i want to take some footage of the video with my mini 2, so you said in restricted areas we need to ask for a permission to fly, so do you know how to ask those permissions in 3 different London areas: Hyde Park, City of London and the one around battersea?
Thanks a lot sir!
I cover it in this video. ua-cam.com/video/JuSJQZDRjeE/v-deo.html
You may also want to seek permission from landowners too...
Hi Paul. I'm a bit late to the party, but hey ho.
So, I saw your video and decided to get Drone assist, but I also decided to get an Ipad Mini so I could just use that for the drone and then everything would be together.
So I bought a second hand Ipad Mini 2nd Generation but the program wouldn't download and was saying NOT COMPATIBLE.
So looking into it more, It is an Ipad Mini (1st Generation) so I am sorting that out with the seller as we speak.
So, do you know which Ipad Mini's are compatible with Drone Assist? or do you have a link to where I could find out?
Thank you in advance.
Hi, I'm sorry I have no idea. I find a lot of my apps don't work on my ipad
@@paul-thys Thank you for your reply, I found one which was an Ipad Mini 4 and the firmware was 15.? and the software worked with 13 and over, the Ipad Mini was only firmware 9.? so that was why, but sorted now Cheers.
Can you apply to fly higher than 400m in the UK?
Say I wanted to create a through the clouds short sequence for an intro on my videos.
Thanks
You can apply with the CAA. They will create a NOTAM if you get permission
@@paul-thys Thank you for the reply. Do you think I'll be able to get the permission ie is it likely?
The yellow and blue outer ring notams are active
OOw nice one. Thanks man
DJI is plain wrong, it states my local town is a no fly zone due to an airport, the closest airport is a 2+ HR drive away
You should be able to challenge this on the DJI fly safe website.
No this isn't a good video. He says "this red area here" when there are multiple red areas visible. I don't know which red area he's talking about.
I say 'this big red area here'. I hope this helps.
CTR is a "Control Zone". There is no such thing as a "Controlled Traffic Region", never has been, it's a nonsense term. :)
