I have to disagree. Try to set up a new account. It is no longer on Google Play. The website feels really dodgy, has popups and ubiquitous ads, first promises to give you flight data access for your personal data, then tells you that you have to pay. Nothing is available to test free. I had to write to the owners to see if they are still in control of the site. Then again to have my personal data scrubbed under GDPR. Legacy users praise it but I wouldn't recommend and I seriously doubt it will hold on to its recommendation from the CAA. Embarrassing that flyers from abroad will judge the UK by this shonky amateur rubbish.
What site were you trying? Dronescene.co.uk is nothing like you describe. The only pop up is for its public liability insurance policy and there are no adverts at all. It was never available on Google Play in the first place so I think you've gone wrong.
@@IaninLondon Did you try setting up an account? Yes, that was the url. I think you and me have different standards for what a trustworthy site looks like. Also, you're using it. I've never been able to access the data and see how it is in the field. It's a hard pass for me I'm afraid.
Hi Ian. I came across your video in a link and could not give you the thumbs up on it so got you again on UA-cam. Excelant video. I had no idea this existed. Many thanks to you for your video, and the work you have all put into Drone Scene. So excited to try it out. Its like a one stop place for all my needs. Very impressive. Fly safe blue side up.
Cheers! :)
Thanks Ian, you have just converted me from Drone Assist to Drone Scene. I missed this video when you uploaded it, and hadn't realised how much Drone Scene has improved. Two years ago, it seemed irrelevant for my local area. All that has changed, so all credit to the Grey Arrows team.
Been a Grey Arrows member for over a year. The dronscene pages are excellent . I always use in conjunction with Altitude Angel. A definite must have for all responsible drone operators. Nice one Ian.
Ian, you've done it again, a great subject that I've been needing to see and learn.. Thanks bud. 👍
Brilliant as usual. The go to sire for sensible straightforward info 👌🏼
Thanks Ian, I've been a member for most of this year and I find it to be a great club for drone flyers and the maps are really good.
Top information cheers Ian very useful, didn’t really go into depth on the site before but you’ve opened my eyes to how good it is, cheers Steve from just outside London, (Kent) now living in the Highlands.
Thanks Ian, finding all your drone related content very helpfull for a new dji mini 2 owner.
Congratulations Ian! Great App For All The Drone Pilots In UK.
Bloody marvellous! Thanks Ian!
Superb thanks Ian, always find your videos helpful, thanks for the effort you put into them
Cheers Neill 👍🏻
Excellent, great information for you as usual, many thanks.
I'm always keeping an eye on Drone Scene.. I live in Dudley and there is not much posted around here, only 1 within 10 miles of me and only a few more within 20 miles of me, hopefully over time more and more locations will be updated. Good video and I always look out for your videos Ian, keep up the good work. cheers.
Thanks for another super vid Ian.
Again very informative Ian 👍
Thanks Ian. Jim
Wow, thank you Ian, all great stuff Egészségedre!
Cheers 😉👍🏻👍🏻
Ian thanks for this I'm new to drones so most helpful. Ade
I am a member of the grey arrows and it is a very good site.
Great info Ian!👍 looks very useful
Thanks Ian, a very useful resource for responsible drone operators. Excellent !!!!!
Cheers James 👍🏻
Thanks Ian, am subscribed to you, as well as GADC Member, always learning from you and GADC
Cheers Gavin!
Thanks Ian very helpful as ever. I have a link to this Website but a quick rundown on the actual way around it is great.👍👍
Thanks Karen. Yep, plenty of hidden functions on it...👍🏻
Wow, many thanks Ian. Wasn't aware of this app 'n' website.
Thanks Ian for hooking me on too the grey arrow web site . Fantastic web site and it is run really well .Your the man no doubt about it 👍😁
Great video for a great website 👍🏽 nice one Ian.
Cheers 👍🏻
Wow- that’s some website. Thanks Ian.
Nice...👍.
Thanks Ian, just signed up.
I've just taken a look at Dronescene, looks decent! Just found an abandoned Fort at the Isle of Grain I never knew existed! Will check that out once the weather improves. Thanks for sharing, another great video! 👍
It's worth the trip!
@@PhantomandtheDrone it looks it! Did you go when the tide was out? I've read you can walk out to it at the right time... it's not too far from where I live. I was also looking at getting some footage over dead man's island.
@@steveknight8046 low tide gives good access to the fort. As for dead mans island, that's tricky, especially given its location. The isle of grain also has a lot of critical infrastructure, which makes getting to places very hard.
@@PhantomandtheDrone thanks for the reply. Dead man's island will just be a fly over, I'm more interested in exploring the Fort. Are you local to the area? I'm from Canterbury so tend to explore more locally.
@@steveknight8046 I am down folkestone way, I checked tide times and weather before deciding a time to drive up there.
Thanks Ian. Another useful video as opposed to the plethora off “look what I’ve got videos!” Not yours of course! Lots of laughter
What A Difference A Year Can Make, Making A Wonderful Drone Scene Website ( FREE ) But Now Chargeable. Other Websites On Other Topics And Subjects Are Doing The Same As Well.
Very informative - thanks Ian. By the way, how are you getting on with your DJI FPV? Any plans to post more videos??
The FPV is good fun; I keep meaning to post more videos on it.... :)
I am a member of Grey Arrows and do use this ‘app’ but many thanks for showing me how to fully access all the functions. Question. How can find what all the various colours on the map represent, in other words how do I access the gazetteer?
Many of the layers' colours are outlined in the 'About' page under DJI Geo Zones, but I've fired an email to the admins suggesting a colour key too. Cheers, Ian
Nice one Ian, thanks 👍🏻 As I mentioned once before, I fly 450 size helis. Would this be just as useful for heli pilots as it is for drone pilots? 🚁🌈
I think so, as it's all about air restrictions and good take off points....
now £12 a year for all of the overlays. so as good as all others now.
Very useful - if I lived in the UK. I wish we had something similar in Germany. Over here, I think every drone owner keeps his best flying spots secret so that no other pilot would show up there. Pretty disappointing.
seems that the layers can no longer be used unless you are a member who pays membership fee?
There are no membership fees; it's free. You just need to me a member (ie sign up so you can use the forum).
great thanks Ian; will there be an actual downloadable app in the future that would be very useful thanks
No need for an app, save the website as a shortcut on your phone/tablet
@@milkmanchris Thanks for that, will i be able to access it with no internet connection? cheers
@@quirkydrift No you wont, but that is the same as all the fly apps that rely on maps ;o(
@@milkmanchris ah Ok thanks for that.
Hi, just been looking at this website on your recommendation, I’m looking at a particular place to fly in Lytham St Anne’s, on Drone scene it just shows a huge no fly zone circle for the area whereas on Dji app it just shows a no fly zone cross in line with Blackpool airport runway. Which is correct ?
Dronescene has quite a few layers; check the key and make sure you've got the right ones flagged; they use CAA data themselves but it may be a layer that's not fully applicable to drones. You can always ask on GreyArrows too. Cheers
Anyone know if we are allowed to fly a DJI mini 2 over them tall electric pylons? They are around 30m - 50m high. i have a few around me, so would be great if we can. Otherwise, I'm trapped in a small area.
Yes you can; you can fly any drone over them. Needless to say you need to be incredibly careful and give them a very wide margin of at least another 20 - 30 metres above them and the cables
@@IaninLondon Thanks Ian i appreciate you taking the time to answer my question, That's great news 👍
Is this still valid? I can seem to be able to select any layers other than locations
Yes, drone scene is still the same... Ask a question on the forum if you need some more guidance; they're very helpful 👍🏻
I thought you said it was free? they seem to be charging £12.00 a year now! Is that correct?
Yes, they've introduced a new annual fee. Still definitely worth it IMHO but I need to update the notes 👍🏻
I can’t seem to find that app you said about
It's a website, not an app. Go to Dronescene.co.uk
@@IaninLondon sorry I ment the app you mentioned the nats one I believe
@@chrisperry8061 Ah, it's just called Drone Assist now; check out the links in the video notes. Ian
What's the catch with drone scene?
Ian I’m a painter and decorator
Can I take pics of places for agents and give them to them at no cost
Yep. If it's commercial, then the rules state you need commercial insurance, which you can get on demand by the hour for a few quid. Otherwise it's just normal drone rules. Sun 250gm like the Mini 2 has the most freedom 👍🏻
@@IaninLondon so if I have liability ins it’s ok ? Thank you
@@steveo726 Correct.
What is class D Airspace?
Class D is not too relevant for drones; it's more for manned aircraft above 500 ft. From the 'About ' help page:
Class D Airspace
There are no separate regulations in place regarding the flight of small unmanned aircraft in controlled airspace below 400 ft (Class A,B,C,D,E)
Restrictions involving the flight of UAS within Aerodrome Traffic Zones are described in Flight restrictions around aerodromes
UAS pilots are reminded of all other responsibilities, including the Air Navigation Order requirements, that any person in charge of a small UAS:
may only fly the aircraft if reasonably satisfied that the flight can safely be made and;
must maintain direct, unaided visual contact with the aircraft for the purpose of avoiding collisions

@@IaninLondon thanks buddy
