The third game needs to have a lot more super dark environments like the beginning of Fallen Order. The way the lightsaber looks and reflects off enemies in the dark is just a work of art

8:27 .... one of the pet peeves I have with Jedi fallen order, was the Holo map...It confused me to no end..it is good to see they improved this part.
The running feels way more video gamey in the sequel. Cal takes off like a video game character just bolting from the beginning, but I remember him kinda lurching forward in a very human about to run type of way.
the main character animations are aweful in both games.
In the first game, he runs like he ate Taco Bell.

To me the Art Direction was better in the first game, more fantasy like. Jedi Survivor looks very real.

Cere was an uncanny valley nightmare in Fallen Order. the only character that was downgraded in this game my opinion was Merrin.

have not been following the lore of Star Wars but i love Jedi: Fallen Order, although perhaps due to lack of optimization, performance is still unstable playing with newer pc hardware
looking forward to play Jedi: Survivor! i see lots of additions to the game
I just appreciate that’s there’s a lot more to do and explore outside of the main story in Jedi Survivor

Both games are great but for the moment I do prefer the first game, yeah overall it has less content and it's fairly linear compared to the second but I liked that a little bit more. Most of the side content you get in the 2nd game is great and I love completing it, everything feels a bit more alive compared to jedi fallen order but I struggled knowing when to explore and when to carry on with the main story. I really liked that in the 1st game you couldn't really stop moving,you had a very small crew and the only real safe place you had was the mantis,it made everything feel a little bit more tense. In jedi survivor some of the characters that you've come to know have settled down and started doing other things,that's not a bad thing in any way,it's good direction for the characters to go in I just preferred the approach of the 1st game.

Would be cool if the lightsaber sparked on contact with the environment like in Jedi Academy/Outcast. For example, swiping the saber through a bush without actually attacking, yet still causing embers and cutting it apart. Its a small thing but goes a long way to making the world feel interactive compared to how the lightsaber currently phases through walls and other objects with no effect.
I'm pretty sure the lightsaber actually has viable scorch marks on walls and stuff,including wires hanging and stuff,tho I can't recall if there's any random bushes but still
@@Delsin42 They only leave scorch marks on walls if you attack. You'd think if the devs implemented that then they could fairly easily include it without attacking too
@@Rondog. in the same video,he shows your able to cause effects on the environment such as cutting down a bush causes the entire area to look burnt
@@Delsin42 Yes, you're able to cut bushes and plants if you attack them, but not if you simply let the blade pass through them while moving around. I'm saying they should have made it cut/spark no matter how the blade touches
@@Rondog. I think there was definitely some crunch in this game. There are many signs of it, so my guess is that the devs didn’t have enough time to add details like that because the deadlines were too strict

Would love to hear whether the initial patches do something about that framerate. Kind of crazy that this was captured on a 4090.
I'll post an update on Friday. Captured some footage with the patch from yesterday and it's better but still not particularly amazing.
I mean the first game was and still is poorly optimized so I’m not that surprised.

Great video but for lightsaber sound design comparison I would use the same blade colour as they all humm with different frequencies in both games depending on the colour
I think the lighting looks way better in the first one at least from the videos I've seen. The new one seems to have way too much contrast or something.

@@trollingisasport When playing in person is a generational leap without a doubt. The lighting in the new game simply looks real at times. It seems it's using Screen Space Ray Traced Global Illumination, making it extremely accurate. The first level on Coruscant had me go "Wow whet the hell" multiple times.
It funny how smooth the frametime and framerate of Fallen Order is when cutting between the footage of both games. You can tell frametime is inconsistent on the Survivor footage (even with the brute force of the 4090).
Thanks for the informative video, I think I'll wait and see how it performs on PC after the Day 1 patch, I don't want to pay $70 only to wait several week to get a stable experience.

Dodging is also different in Jedi: Survivor. Cal dodges more skillfully and concentrates as he's doing so. No, I'm not talking about precision evade. In Survivor, Cal actually closes his eyes if you do a standard dodge in the backwards direction. He also seems to become somewhat see-through and transparent while in the act of dodging.
After seeing some of the cutscenes from both games you can clearly see the budget and ambition difference with both, not a cut on fallen order mind you it was the best single player star wars we've gotten in years, what I mean is more so EA must've held back on supporting the first game cause they foolishly didn't believe in single player titles, but then after the first games success they finally upped the budget for development on the second

The old sounds are much more faithful to the original/canon SFX.
Yeah, it seems to be a classic mistake of making a change for the sake of change, despite predecessor not needing any. Lightsaber sounds dulled in Survivor.

That's because they're using different color lightsabers. Every colour had a different sound in the first game and I assume in the second aswell.
@@vanMrMann The sound effects are different for different lightsaber colors; this was done in the first game, too. Purple blade sounds pretty weird, but the blue one should be more faithful.

I immediately noticed you had more control so it felt more skill based in fallen order with move cancellation and I really miss the dash skill there aren’t the best skills for closing the gap and I actually think I prefer combat in the first one
PS5 and Series X have ray tracing as well, though locked to 30fps. In the original release both options had rey tracing weirdly, causing dips in performance mode, but after updates performance drops ray tracing and is a buttery smooth 60fps all the way through.

12:20 On ps5. On Koboh open world i generally get around 50 fps but i remember cutting a plant and my frames just dipppped down to like under 30 because of all the spark effects
Every time I see just how crisp and clean the resolution is from a high end PC, it really makes me want to build my own. I've been a console gamer my entire life and never really realized just how good PC gaming looks until recently. This game may not have the best optimization but getting to play games at native 4k and 60+fps is what makes me want to start building one.
Imo 4K is just not worth it, i run everything at 1440p on my 4K tv and there is zero noticeable difference from running 4K, espessially if your sitting on your couch a good few feet away from the screen. I’d rather get smooth 80-90 fps in 1440p than 55-60 in 4K.

From the previous one I missed the cool cinematics and flashbacks when learning a new ability. Survivor didn't focus on that, it's like they just added a new ability to Cal with no context.

The framerate gets a little better with each patch, the gameplay is satisfying and the story is awesome.
For me, the respawn time improvement for Jedi survivor is a big plus for me. I don’t like when games have a long respawn time. I really enjoy playing on hard difficulty so I definitely need the time to respawn to be quicker. I had to stop playing jedi fallen order for that reason.
it's mainly a next gen vs old gen thing. you don't really appreciate next gen games until you play an old gen game and see the load times. I remember trying to play TLOU2 and was sick of waiting for the loading screens despite it being like 30 or so secs

The old game was already stretching the old consoles. This new game is objectively better looking than the previous so it would have been impossible to make a last ten game.

@@noahebner9087They added artificial ray tracing, that's it. Still not enough to push the ps5 to the limit, they should have ported the game to unreal engine 5 and added lumen, or keep the same engine and add path tracing.

Nope. 99% not going to happen by "today standard". If the game run fine, it'll be fine from the get go. Otherwise, it'll take months for dev in order to "fix" their game.

the native 4k with TAA seems to have obsessive ghosting, i saw it on cal whenever you were running on the sand and it makes the foliage looks mushy
You shouldn't need to use TAA when playing at that resolution.

one thing they could have done witch I think is a missed opportunity is to have the old fallen order textures and models baked into the game so it could be like an Ultra low or performance option

Both kinda, they give you a recap at the start and the second game takes place after a 5 year time skip. You'll be fine as long as you have some basic SW knowledge and read the database entries for extra info
I enjoyed Survivor 10x more than Fallen order. This is what a sequel should be.

The first game still blows me away and is still a great play to this day but I cant wait to player survivor its basically what a 2nd version of a game should be, I cant wait to see what modders will do with the lightsabers as they did with the first game.

I´d rather play the game in fallen order engine and sacrifice the miniscule graphic improvements and sharper textures if it means the game actually runs as its supposed to.
My complain about Jedi Fallen Order is that it is really unstable. Once I saw the terrain in Dathomir not being fully loaded, so it was invisible

The game looks really good, I do wish there was a little more done with the textures, like with the water, and the movement of the plants.
I think the audio of the lightsaber in Fallen Order sounds more like the original trilogy, but I think all the other sounds Survivor are an upgrade.
Really looking forward to it, I hope the few things get tweaked and upgraded with patches. Also improved upon. Honestly the scenes of walking through water look like something straight out of a 2019 game, very pathetic. I'm a huge Star Wars geek so I will probably get it for the story and canon of it, just hope they eventually update some of those little things.

Pretty sure the difference in audio comes from the two different color crystals. They have different sounds per crystal in FO, I expect the same is true in Survivor. A proper comparison would have matched the color in both games.
I feel like the enhanced light saber swinging sounds in survivor are a little too much to the point where it sounds like it is warped

Dropping to 30 fps regularly on a 4090 at 2560x1440 with raytracing off is just...well typical is the word now I suppose.

Yeah you can! You just need to get his old costume, i think it might be in a chest or something, and you can also shave his beard and change his hairstyle like the old one. Personally, I think it's great because it made me so nostalgic.

Not really sure how to compare them. Haven't finished the main storyline to Survivor just yet. Acting seems better with this one. Some good character designs that are interesting. Isn't over reliant on using nostalgia from the star wars movies to drive the plot which is always a plus.
Looks great, but the performance issues with Ray Tracing enabled shouldnt even have been acceptable in the games beta stage... 45fps avg on a 4090 is just extremely poor optimization.
For real thats abysmal. Cyberpunk on a 4090 with full ray tracing and not just reflections does way better than that, there is zero excuse.

The one thing I don't like is the overly soft edges in canyon like places Marvel's Avengers had this same issue where things tended to look too soft I dunno if it's an after affect of anti-aliasing or DLSS it's just every video i've seen thus far of survivor even this onbe e.g. 0.57 if you pause and look theres a muddyness or softness between the differently shaded parts of rock and it just looks awful in those more organic and rock areas it doesn't look like 4k! aweslso just noticed the same at 1:27 in the background not only the rocks but the wall aswell is this an LOD issue?
Also I like the fallen order lightsaber sound it sounds closer to the original lightsaber sounds from the movies with that sharper sounding activation, the new light sabers sound kinda muted!
To be fair the visual issues are nit picky and if I wasn't such a detail oriented person (blame my autism lack of visual filtering in my brain) and the fact I have a 4K monitor I probably wouldn't notice these issues that much, it's my hope they optimize the game to run well on native at least on the 40 series I got a Strix 4070Ti OC Edition and if the 4090 struggles I hate to think how mine will I really don't wanna use dlss if I don't have so I hope they optimise it so it can at least get 60fps at 4k i'm sick of developers using DLSS as an excuse to not optimize for native and it really can soften edges and a sharpness filter makes things too popped and weird so i'd just prefer native!
But as we go into more games at 4k res textures i've noticed theres more and more that can fail at delivering and will use LOD's for long distance that are badly done and just make organic earthly areas look muddy like the textures didn't properly load in I had the same issue on ESO which I think may of been a mip map value issue I fixed it by going into the files but it shouldn't of been there to begin with it made characters not load in close up, video memory was probably another issue in that regard which is why I can't fathom why they gave the 4070ti a smaller 192-bit than an rx580 2048sp with 256-bit bandwidth a card that came out nearly 5 years ago in 2018 has better bandwidth and then only gave it 12GB instead of 16GB for the price i'd of expected it to be more!
their argument is that the 4080ti and 4070ti would of then been too similar, then my argument would be since the 4090 has something like 24GB just give the 4080 Ti either 18GB memory or 20GB and give it a slightly larger bandwidth and that would of made the 4070ti and 4080ti actually seem more worth their launch price points! as I reckon I will not be doing whatever passes for maximum textures in 3-5 years on this gpu heck I prob can't max out on textures when I get doom eternal!
That Spawn of Bogdo was so rage inducing. not spoiling what you get from the boss fight but it took me like 100 tries to beat
Spawn of Bogdo was straight BS. JM difficulty felt a lot more fair while still being challenging in Fallen Order. It just felt broken in Survivor. Spawn of Bogdo forced me to go down to Jedi Knight difficulty.
I know you likely only knew about the PC version but on ps5 and series X both consoles also feature as much ray tracing as PC, and no off toggle for performance or fidelity modes, keeping it on no matter what. Which sucks on my ps5 to be honest. I'm going to have to get it for the Xbox I've heard it runs better since update 0003

edit: Also in the recent years I've been getting more games on console due to the way better optimization which is unfortunate since there are less graphic options and no mods in console games.
