I think the biggest downside to Raphael, is that the very second he shows up, you can't attack or kill him on the spot. And no matter if you agree with him and take his offer, or disagree with him and don't, it ends the exact same way. In other words, unlike the REST of the game, the first Encounter with him will ALWAYS end, the EXACT same way, stating he will see you again later, before vanishing. Which is a MASSIVE shame. I just wanted to rip his demonic throat out, and show the demon what a true dark evil can do under the dark urge devotion. Too bad they never give us that option.

Gortash is another charismatic and eloquent character and look how Karlach ended up. And then the emperor... even as the dream visitor I distrusted him from the get go, the very moment he said thar there is great potential in me that comes from the parasite; I was like, "yeah, there's no way I am trusting you no matter how powerful I can be by using the tadpole's powers."
Raphael is more like Karsus then he says we are. He's the prodigal son of Mephisto who wants the Crown of Karsus to overthrow Asmodeus, become Archdevil Surpreme, and eventually invade the Mortal planes. But his whole plan hinged on Tav and the party killing the Nether Brain and taking the Crown for him, in exchange for getting the Orphic Hammer to free Orpheus. If you never take him up on his deal, the plan falls apart. If we fail, it falls apart. It's fitting than that his lowest stat is Wisdom.

He even so much as told Asmodeus to his face that he plots to overthrow him. Raphael is under the delusion that with the Crown he could succeed where his father wouldn't even have made the attempt. Mephistopheles and the Archdevils are powerful, but Asmodeus is in a whole tier above them, and certainly above Raphael.
Devils are all like that. Talking about rules, and order, making contracts. But they’ll always twist all of those things to their advantage, and abandon it all if need be, and nobody above them is paying enough attention to stop them.

It's good that I had paralysis of any devils\undead (a level 5 spell) and he just stood there and absorbed damage + someone else for the whole fight :D And I thought my build wasn't working

Missing the metric boatload of smokepowder barrels behind him at the start. Seriously, his arena is the exact reason I have Karlach with the at all times, and why she is always carrying a crapload of smokepowder barrels. It was hilarious to watch him and his entire entourage go flying backwards at the start of the fight.
@@MFenix206 Just remember that *one* of those barrels can wipe out a room the size of a normal house. So four of them is probably going to instantly kill anything - just make sure you drop a Globe of Invulnerability first, leave someone on the opposite side of the map, AND have at least two characters on-hand who have Uncanny Dodge or something.

I had 2 fighters in my party at the time, and it was so funny how he sang the ost, while they hit him a total of 18 times combined with haste and action surge. 75+% of his hp went sky, before he could even take a turn.

there should be a conversation option that says "uh sorry - I'll put everything back where I found it".. or to bribe him. Even if he doesnt accept. You use the same logic every other time you steal something after all. "Hey Raphael, maybe these 1511gp can smooth things over?" Perhaps a persuasion check with 99 difficulty to calm him down - you could still hit a nat 20
I found the fight to be underwhelming. Hope is such a strong healer, she easily negates all the damage alone. And the devils died so quickly to hard melee hits.
Strategy spoilers to follow, if anyone cares. It's probably not ideal, but it worked for me in Balanced mode. A Warlock to take out the pillars with Eldritch Blast (mine's custom, but Wyll would work too, though I dipped into Sorceror for Quickened Spell), Divine Intervention from Hope, Shadowheart running around like a chicken with her head cut off trying to keep everyone alive, and Lae'zel (Eldritch Knight) on a speed potion, with the Balduran's Giantslayer greatsword bonded to her so she can't drop it. If you're reasonably lucky, that's a pretty solid head start. After that, you'll need the power of God and save scumming on your side, and you're good to go. Damn good fight.
Raphael has terrible will saves, so all you need is a caster with Tasha's. The pillars are red herrings, they just soak up 400 damage that could be turned against Raffi. It only sucks if Yugir's turn comes between your party and Raphael so he would break Tasha.

Agree to the deal with him, then talk to Alfira, then find the demonist and pay her 20k or 10k if you pass the check for persuasion and she will transport you to hell.
Raphael isn't even the main villain of the story, yet he stole the entire show. Such a magnificent bastard. I love him.

I got two chances and failed both, since on my first attempt at Raphael Hope died.
Yurgir might not be too tough health-wise but he makes quick work of the surrounding cambions, allowing your party to focus on Raphael more

To be fair, raphael never directly impedes the party up to this point. Besides, he is evil at the end of the day. Evil can be rather hypocritical.

You can cast otto's irresistible dance on Raphael (it always works, he has no way to save against it) and it turns this fight into ez mode.

A tiger barbarian on haste can be pretty juicy, two bludgeon blows is enough and has the jump distance to hop between the important bits.
