depending on how you choose your dialogues he has around ~ 30 min of screen time in a 100 h + game and he is soooooo memorable. That's the definition of an extremely well written character

I mean Raphael isn’t THE devil, he’s just the firstborn of mestopholes (the SECOND most powerful devil), and that is truly terrifying considering that he still manages to be the most cleverly scheming and toughest opponent in the entire game by far.
I think he really has this type of role while being his own thing. A sort of reverse Gaunter if you will. Gaunter is framed as friendly with increasing hints that he is terrifying. Raphael is the reverse, with his theatrics he passes as afable yet threatening right from the start. But then you dig up around him and in the devil lore of DnD and man. He is such a pathetic loser and he's likely gonna get smacked by Asmodeus. I love him and his sleazy salesman vibe, he's pulling the strings while being overly arrogant about his own plans, that's extremely entertaining to watch 😂
The performance is for sure. But the character themselves is no where near Gaunter O'Dimm in terms of being threatening, the fear and uncertainty he made me feel can't be matched by Raphael. Raphael is like a child in front of him; impatient, bratty and easily angered, there are times you even feel like you have an upper hand on him, but with O'Dimm it was never like it was always Geralt that was on his back foot.
I can imagine Raph having a portrait of O’Dimm displayed in the House of Hope “a humble mirror merchant who rose to great heights…a fascinating tale, for another time.”
@@JesseS. I know how Larian operates usually - and doesn't do DLC for DOS let's say, but this is slightly different story. DOS was their own universe, they were unshackled. Here we have 8 more levels worth of character progression that would require another 2 years of development or something. I'm pretty sure Larian themselves didn't denied idea of DLC for this game, leaving this option on the table, potentially.
Personaly i think a defenitve version for bg3 like one for dos would be great if it included some more subclasses from xanathar or tashas (aberrant mind and bladesinger would be awesome among so many other) and of course some more quests and maybe a little exbanded ending@@seeinred

This CHAD is honestly my favorite part of Baldur's Gate 3! So charming, elegant, charismatic and good-looking, yet scary, menacing and overpowered if you make an enemy out of him. His theme song and boss fight are my favorites in the game, so much so that I played the fight twice in a row on my first playthrough. If any anime figure manufacturer made a scale figure of Raphael, I would buy its whole stock 😂
Raph was a great boss fight, seeing his health be 666 was making me go "oh shit how the hell am I going to kill that". As the game went on my hatred for him grew and I decided to go to his house just to kill him. Great boss theme and presentation, he was amazing.
It shows him at 666hp throughout the game. In first act I was like wtf, but in the third I put a Hold Monster on him and killed him and all his friends in like 5 turns lol
His writer and actor are the perfect combination. A striking bit of theater that snatches u out of the game and puts u In rapturous awe of the art form itself. Sublime.

Yeah his charade kinda falls apart if you know more about the hells and the true power wielders there (Asmodeus). Especially his post-credit monologue makes him an utter joke.

The Chosen three stole the crown of Karsus *from Mephistopheles*, who held that crown for AGES, amongst other powerful artifacts. Mephistopheles never used the crown in an attempt to take over the hells or oust Asmodeus while fully knowing their power. Why is that? Because he knew the crown isnt enough, not even close enough, to take over the hells or challenge asmodeus. And it's the one thing Raphael draws his power from. The devils are likely just pretending to give Raphael(a mere campion, btw) their tribute, probably sniggering behind his back how he's going to be slapped down by Asmodeus or one of the lesser Archdevils. Raphael may be take over Avernus, but thats about it

But to say the crown of KARSUS wouldn't be enough to bridge the gap, or at least make it interesting, goes against everything the game is implying narratively. Lore is a thing, yeah, but bg3 is part of the Canon, and any of its implications are Canon as well going forward.
He offers a total of 3 different deals, one for each act. you can't take the act 1 one, act 2 is related to Astarion's personal quest, and then act 3 is the one that can determinate which ending you will get, depending on your choices.@@t2-scoops436
My favorite part about Raphael is being as rude and hostile as possible to him. So in my run, he went from extremely polite and friendly towards downright hateful when I stole his hammer. A real shame he didnt have a final cutscene where he was begging for his life when I killed him.

Before I ran into him I was about to give up the game. Not used to turn based just to listen to him I kept playing what a great actor and a great character the way he speaks is so fantastic

This encounter alone sold me on a second playthrough. First run is an Oath of Vengeance Paladin. I can barely be in the same room as a devil, let alone break bread with one.
Stringing along, robbing his house, and killing this devil was some of the most satisfying stuff I’ve seen in a video game. I imagined my vengeance paladin playing this out the whole time in their mind, totally glorious.
Does anyone else think that Raphael was definitely inspired by Al Pacino's performance as the Devil in "The Devil's Advocate"? He looks and sounds so much like him. Raphael stands out as one of the most memorable characters in this game, especially with the best battle theme. Thing to remember about devils in D&D is they are *not* the same thing as demons, they are lawful evil and in opposition to the chaotic evil demons.

This encounter alone sold me on a second playthrough. First run is an Oath of Vengeance Paladin. I can barely be in the same room as a devil, let alone break bread with one.
Stringing along, robbing his house, and killing this devil was some of the most satisfying stuff I’ve seen in a video game. I imagined my vengeance paladin playing this out the whole time in their mind, totally glorious.

Does anyone else think that Raphael was definitely inspired by Al Pacino's performance as the Devil in "The Devil's Advocate"? He looks and sounds so much like him. Raphael stands out as one of the most memorable characters in this game, especially with the best battle theme.
Also, if you haven't watched "The Devil's Advocate" for whatever reason, go ahead and give it a watch. :-D
