Have a look at NZ Bluefin tuna... We got giant tuna around here too, probably give that area a run for its money in regards to the biggest high quality tuna around...🇳🇿🐟🇳🇿🐟🇳🇿🐟
Liberals have no problem purchasing 'Chicken of the Sea' with their EBT cards at the grocery store but they lose their minds when they watch a fishing video.
+mike byers Liberalism is a mental disorder. It's a mass delusion where one victimizes oneself and others they can identify with. Liberals take no responsibility for themselves or their actions... because they are victims. Liberals are selfish and don't care how their actions affect others. Liberals are cry baby whiners with a vendetta. Liberals are weak; however, instead of blaming themselves, they blame others. Liberals support freedom but only their version of freedom; it's a strange paradox. Liberals are collectivists that jump on the bandwagon, rational thought is thrown out the window. Liberals are insecure. Liberalism is tyranny. Fuck you loser.
Outstanding job on the fish. Have to admit - not in a negative fashion but you have to have a set of tires on you to strap yourself to a 700 pound fish, I do not fear many fish - but I think I would only chair fight something like that - but this gentleman is also relatively larger and stronger than I am. To these guys who have something to say about being in shape and fishing - this ain't no Tom Cod on the pier - and I'd bet every penny in my bank that after an hour of pulling on something like this - you'd be on your knees begging for mercy...
TUNA, the only way I like it, in Shushi, with fresh vegis, soya and, that green spicy stuff with fesh ginger. OH BOYS, you got me right there, I'm sold. Gerry
In the 70s we caught big eyes 1200 pounds.....swordfish over a ton ..... nowa days a 250 pounder considered huge . We considered those babies .threw them back
This guy is exaggerates the truth. I was up there the same day as him fishing with Tony Tuna's charter. First off these guys weren't granted access to harvest the one tuna, they bought the tag from the captain. And 2nd the fish did not get shipped off to Japan. It was sent off to Boston. Not that big of a deal just not worth lying about. P.E.I is an impressive fishery though and to all the people bitching about the Blue Fin being endangered, head up there and have a look for yourself. Definitely no shortage of them up in Canada. Population in Canada has actually increased while the population in places such as New England has decreased. Can probably be explained because the majority of them migrate with the herring, but in my opinion, the majority of the migratorial fish ending up changing their migration patterns due to lack of bait in southern areas. Final argument which can top all is that list is exaggerated… The Goliath Grouper is on the endangered species list… Anyone who wants to argue and say that they are endangered, all I can say is go dive near any structure, reef, or wreck in Florida especially the Keys then get back to me.
I fish but watching this video made me question it. Five people and a boat motor versus a fish? They landed the fish ultimately with a harpoon tagged to a line. I guess my bias is also linked to one of the first fishermen of East Coast catching sword fish that said they harpooned sword fish BEFORE market existed and average weight was 700 pounds (now it is 1/10th that).
setting the drag keeps the line.. most of the time. Enough scrubs back and forth waiting for it to tire can wear out anything. He did not mention the legend of tuna taking off up to 60mph... or what he got paid. Good show anyway. A minimalist story would be incredible. Gas v8 minimum, 20+ foot and with cabin. Very humbling and hard earned. Never seen that on film yet.
It's crazy they only get one but in mass they get multiple per trip. Does not make sense to me and I noticed that the guys in mass get way a better price too usually..
Wikipedia says that Atlantic Bluefin tuna are at 20-30% of their unfished biomass (IUCN site seems to agree) hence the need for commercial quotas of a single fish. Believe it or not 20-30% of unfished biomass is not that bad, in some countries this is where fish stocks are managed and because it is hard to manage stocks that roam across jurisdictions. In Aus Commonwealth managed stocks are kept at about 48%, well above the rest of the world. A stock that is fished down will always yield more than one that isn’t because fish have more space, more food, less cannibalism, young fish grow quicker - a paddock of young cows will provide more meat each year than a paddock of old ones. International modern fisheries science and management is doing better and Australia is leading the way. Orange roughy continues to recover; the challenge in Australia will be when does a commercial catch that continues to allow rebuilding begin…
SouthEastTrawl The Atlantic bluefins are in two different populations. The eastern one that spawns in the Med. Sea is heavily overfished. European solution is to cut way back on the fishing in the west. They don't want to undo the harm they cause
***** Exactly right--to keep the population stable, the entire fishery can only support harvest of a limited number of animals...so that's all they allow to be taken. And since there are other boats who want to fish them, the quota is one per boat. We do that in the Northwest Pacific fisheries as well--for salmon and crab, most notably.
Fishing pole is cheap and plenty of pay ponds to fish take a seat and watch the end of your pole and relax. If your still breathing you can go fishing my favorite guy at the pay lake is almost 90 and he loves it. He won the last tournament last summer with a 12lb catfish and won 750 bucks. Go fishing my friend.
Mike you can do some Bluefin fishing out of Southern California in the summer months if your lucky! When the warmer currents come in, so do the open ocean fish!
Would be interesting to know the survival rate of the ones that get off after a long fight. Data is pretty good on freshwater fish, not so much on deep sea fish due to barotrauma. However, tuna are caught near the surface. Just sayin'.
There are multiple species of tuna, ranging from endangered to least concern. That was a bigeye tuna if I'm not wrong. It is not an endangered species of tuna, it's listed as "potential vulnerable" and therefore legal to fish.
Wow very big fish 😍👏👏👏👍
I am from PEI and have seen many large tuna. A friend caught a 650lb fish a few years ago.

I too like all the room on that boat. It would be great for treasure hunting. Don't see to many of those types of boats down here in Fl. I wonder why?

+Bob Kerbs I assume you have actual statistics to back up your assertion Bob?
+Bob Kerbs Go back to the stone age where u belong. Friggin conservatives are so dumb. Just throw out words with little or no facts.

In Japan, you can buy tins of tuna-safe dolphin.
What does that have to do with Atlantic Tuna fishing, it's all Dolphin free. It's the Japanese that long line tuna and kill Dolphins.

@Nick Kamram You're confusing fresh and cook tuna Nick. Fresh tuna in shushi's and cook tuna's burk ! Try fresh, very palatable ! Gerry
You are a beast winga, grats, THINK BIG
Could u explain :)
Which equipments did u use? Line Reel Rod Hooks etc.
Doesnt the smaller tuna taste better than the huge ones like this? Idk why it would, but i heard that somewhere
Nice catch and will done guys
In the 70s we caught big eyes 1200 pounds.....swordfish over a ton ..... nowa days a 250 pounder considered huge . We considered those babies .threw them back

The rod and reel guys taking one fish a year are not the problem. Think trawlers....
Nice Catch..!! Nothing like catching a tuna that you can't haul into your boat..!! Crane next time?
Well done everyone. 1 tag per season? Can't get any better than that
are you guys going to haul that thing up before the sharks get to it
man...I hate it when ppl fk up a good video with music!!!!!!!!!!!
Ditto!!!!!!
nebraskatpp Unless its a real soundtrack that fits... like with a film.
Could not agree more. If I wanted to listen to techno I'd go to a rave.
LOL !!!!!
really annoying
So what's the stats on what the fish sold for a various stages of its trip to and finally China/Japan???? Video is incomplete imo
how does that thin line hold a fish that big?
how did u pull that big fish with a tiny hook ?
It is a strong line and it's all about the drag you obviously have no idea about fishing
+Bob Larison no I don't that's is why I'm asking
setting the drag keeps the line.. most of the time. Enough scrubs back and forth waiting for it to tire can wear out anything. He did not mention the legend of tuna taking off up to 60mph... or what he got paid. Good show anyway.

where is this buddy do you have the info of this place i want go fishing there???
How much did it sell for ?
I'm interested how much it when for in Japan?
How did you reel in that fish that is mad
Awesome video, can only imagine the pain to land that
It's crazy they only get one but in mass they get multiple per trip. Does not make sense to me and I noticed that the guys in mass get way a better price too usually..

Ferfect body good work mony now god blees u
I don't get it, if its a commercial boat why are they only allowed to catch 1 a season
might have been the last of his quota, bagged out early maybe

Needs to be asked ,Why are people still allowed to fish for an endangered species?
Because it isn't an endangered species.
Ch0plol Its been an endanger species since 1950s according to the wicked tuna show. And i just googled it ,The IUCN show it as an endangers species.
Not all
There are multiple species of tuna, ranging from endangered to least concern. That was a bigeye tuna if I'm not wrong. It is not an endangered species of tuna, it's listed as "potential vulnerable" and therefore legal to fish.
If it was illegal you wouldn't be able to buy cans of tuna from any local foods store, dumb ass
Fell asleep during intro
What was the selling price in Japan?????????????????????????
16k
Non off your fuckin business
The record selling price for an Atlantic Bluefin in Japan is a little over 1mil
