I sure enjoyed that film! I was shouting while watching it and it scared my dogs Ha ha! Tug of war with the seal was fantastic. Thats living!!!! . We have been fishing in mexico for 25 years but never hit one like that. Maybe next time. Tight lines to ya
LOL I already hate seals for stealing my bait, favorite lures, fish I catch, etc. Now come to find out they also eat tuna as well? Grrrr.... seals and sealions, my mortal enemies!!!! By the way, great catch.
Feckin awesome boys, now that's fishing. Feck you seal ya mite a got a taste but ya didn't beat the catch and determination of those fishermen. Well done boys well done, that was brilliant. I would so love to do that sort of fishing for BIG TUNA. Bucket list now im afraid.
I really like that (at least appears) to be one man, one fish. So many guys today are seen handing the rod to another angler; though this is legal, it is not sporting. This guy seems to be a sportsman and handle the fish himself. In case you did not know, once you hand the rod to someone else--it can't qualify as a record fish per IGFA rules.
You are welcome Eric. You don't pay for processing, but you need to learn the techniques of handling the fish properly. No gaffs or harpoons in the body, only the head if possible, bleeding, collaring, icing. The very best way to transport the fish is in a tank full of brine slush, so you either need a gigantic fishbox full of ice, salt and seawater, or seawater and freezer plates run from the vessels electrical systems/generator. This keeps the fish suspended in a 30 deg smoothie where it wont get bruised, or have uneven pressure against any part of the tissue mass. This maximizes profits, and costs money to have aboard ship as well as create possible issues with stability. Nothing like leaving port on a beautiful day in 2'-3' seas, get your limit and come home in 8'-10' breaking seas. Or staying out in that because you burned the fuel, found the bait and know the fish will eventually. You crawl around the pit at night so the rogue wave you can't see in the dark won't pitch you over the rail. It's an amazing place to be, but the ocean will hand your butt to you at times!
Aaron Moses He did not "comment"; he asked a question--he was not rude, or disrespectful, as you were. Rather than tell someone to do some research, why not be nice--he was being nice. You say "learn to spell", I say "learn to be courteous"
Got a question if theres any tuna fishermen here. If someone wanted to get into catching tuna for a living. How much money would they need to start a small maybe 3 or 4 person team? Like how much for boat n rods and well EVERYTHING that you would need without going crazy throwing money out. If you could do like a run down list of how much for ea thing like a round a bout. any help would be great, thank you ahead of time.
Incredible catch guys, and with a seal hanging on... Wow! Eric, you are talking about a lot of money to get in the game and it is not as easy as "Wicked Tuna" makes it look. Figure on spending over $100,000.000 for a boat, tackle, engines, safety equipment, licenses, and you are going to spend a load on fuel and maintenance while you learn how to pursue, find, catch and process the fish for maximum dollar at the dock. Making a living from the sea these days is a costly, hard life frought with many hardships and challenges.
John Chase John I want to thank you very much for giving it to me real. Most ppl would just start dogging someone for just asking what I asked, I figured it would be a good bit of money but didnt think it would be that much. I didnt even think about the learning curve and having the fish processed. So again bro thank you very much for ur help its greatly appreciated.
I am not a tuna fisherman but just common sense tells you that your largest investment is going to be the boat. If you want to go as cheap as possible them get a cheap small boat. Even that will probably run you at least $7,000, with other costs (licenses, equipment, gas etc.) will run you another couple thousand. I would say you could probably get a small operation going for $12,000 if you are frugal. You will have to go for the large fish, one large fish can go for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
+Worshipintruth... I think your math might be a little enthusiastic. A single 200 hp outboard engine will run you over $20,000 new, and if you are going used with a single engine I hope you have a nice time on the grounds overnight, potentially with no power. These fish and catching them is not a game, and going at it blind is a good way to get seriously injured or worse. As for the value of a fish? If you are lucky enough to actually handle a 300lb fish correctly and preserve the quality, @ $16-$18 a pound, what does that come out to? Consider the stability of a $12,000 vessel with several hundred pounds of ice aboard, tackle, bait, reserve fuel, food, potable water, and a few humans. Now put all that in 5'-7' breaking seas and add a 300-500lb fish to the equation. We have not discussed electronics, safety equipment, life raft, etc. BTW, I did this stuff for over 30 years, so this is not a googled response, and we did start messing with smaller boats, bit they cost a lot less in 1987 :-)
Cheap boat?? Yea..no. Hell, the rods, reels, line, terminal tackle, and bait can run more than the price of a "cheap boat". You can NOT chase bluefin with cheap gear. They destroy 130's..much less a 50 or 80W. To get in the game safely, legally, and have a chance of success, you better have a bankroll pushing $100,000 USD
it seems to me that you guys were using small hooks for this big tuna fish , my conclusion is that you were losing lots of the tune fish, owing to the size of your hook. but one thing is for sure.. the person driving the boat has a very important role in this fishing.
Lol! Have you ever heard of chironomid fishing? You can catch a 40LB plus fish on a hook smaller then your pinkie. My conclusion is that you're a dumbass who needs to do his research before he opens his mouth.
I definately would have done the same. The seals woud have eaten it otherwise. Lots of great fillets left on that fish. It would have been strange not to attempt to keep it.
Love your channel. All the way from the Bahamas.
I absolutely love these videos! especially because they use spinning tackle for giant fish
Mr Brandon you got excellent fishing and excellent cricket for sure sir another excellent video Sir thanks for uploading, blessings !

Awesome vid and team effort. Hard to appreciate how hectic this scenario is. Great job on the landing too big fella
good collection fish man
hi winga im just curious where i could find that hand held T handle gaff your using cant find it anywhere???
Nice! one question. what kind of line do you use for those beasts? i guess must be strong as hell. whats the diameter? its multifilament or mono?
those look like at 18k stellas. it's gotta be braided line. that reel would only hold 40-50 yards of 130lb mono
I sure enjoyed that film! I was shouting while watching it and it scared my dogs Ha ha! Tug of war with the seal was fantastic. Thats living!!!! . We have been fishing in mexico for 25 years but never hit one like that. Maybe next time. Tight lines to ya

Your definition of "sporting" and "ethical" is 100% different from the next person's. Just remember that.
You are welcome Eric.

That is 250,000 dollar fish
super mmmarrrreeeee

If you think that fish is a giant.....
Govt needs to have a seal cull, given the fact that the seals kill 100 tuna for every 10 landed.
Wasting time watching this... 0-0
U talk to much u dont even catch no f...king fish
Saludos Daniel Rodríguez
Every fisherman loves to hear that clicker screaming, just not all the time...( Nice gear ) for trout fishing...
Michael Weston the brackets should be around “for trout fishing” if you want to use correct grammar

well you finally caught that fish you wanted for years and then you kill it :/ strange
thats the point..catching fish is fun and tasty :)
With that seal chomping on it, the fish would have died even if they didn't gaff it
I definately would have done the same. The seals woud have eaten it otherwise. Lots of great fillets left on that fish. It would have been strange not to attempt to keep it.
