    War movies don't always need an R rating to get their point across. Being able to reach a wider and younger audience, this film shows kids how to think for themselves, and to not just assume that what you're told and what is going on around you is true or right.

    Absolutely knew you would like this one. The cinematography like you said was knocked out of the park. And Taika did an amazing job both behind and in front of the lens. Definitely worth a second or third watch. Took me a second go through to notice the demeanor of Taika throughout the film. In the beginning as Jojo was fanatical, Hitler was almost whimsical. And as the film progressed and Jojo began to have his doubts about the ideology, Hitler became more and more aggressive.
    It was just brilliantly done. The entire film.
    Good watch man. And don’t worry about the audio. It wasn’t a big deal.

    This film is so stunning, one of my favourite shots is of the buildings surrounding Jojo as he cries over his mother... the buildings look like they have eyes, nodding to the idea that someone is always watching.
    You should 100% check out Taika’s other films, hunt for the Wilderpeople is probably the best one to ease into the NZ sense of humour, but BOY and Eagle vs Shark are equally as beautiful. Both mix in a little bit of animation and fantasy scenes. Absolutely gorgeous. Taika knows how to balance comedy and sadness perfectly.

    This might already have been said. But the "heil Hitler" greeting joke when the Gestapo show up at the house definitely is meant to feel like this absurdity that you get tired of after the 3rd round when they greet Finkle. BUT to me, the 4th time when Elsa( pretending to be Inge ) does her round of heilling its no longer a joke it is there with the soul purpose of drawing out the tension of the scene. The absurdity is lost, every heil reminding you she is this close to danger and each one slower than the next as the weight of her essentially praising the man who slaughtered her people and her family settles in and a bit of her confidence wavers. I think this scene is doing a great job at showing the audience that while yes this movie is a comedy and we are making jokes in reality it was the total opposite. It was not a joke it was VERY serious and a very very really danger to those who opposed "the right views". This movie is packed full of amazing scenes and this is definitely one of them.

    • @trequor
      @trequor 2 роки тому +2

      My favourite thing about the heil hitler joke is that it is actually true to reality. German greeting etiquette necessitates that you greet each person in the room individually. And at this time the mandated greeting was "Heil Hitler". So this absurd scene probably played out hundreds of times over the decade of Hilter's reign.

    I am wondering if you even noticed the song that was played at the beginning, when you made that comment "looks like BEATLEMANIA" The song that was playing over that WAS the BEATLES singing "I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND" which the BEATLES actually recorded in GERMAN as well ("KOMM GIB MIR DEINE HAND") They ARE playing the actual BEATLES German version. They also recorded "SHE LOVES YOU" ("SIE LIEBT DICH") in German as a sort of NOD to the time they spent in Hamburg Germany in 1960 and 1961 playing 8 hours a day in the Kaiserkeller and the Top Ten in the St. Pauli quarter near The Reeperbahn, and the friends they made at the time there, several which stayed friends to them until this day.

    22:21 That sounds suspiciously like Hitler's final speech in January, 1945. This part of it specifically...
    He who fights honorably can thus save his own life and the lives of his loved ones. But he who, because of cowardice or lack of character, turns his back on the nation shall inexorably die an ignominious death.

    Apologies. This is very random, and I don't know why I just noticed this now, but that looks like a very wide door in your background. I'd guess maybe it was the lens you're on, but the skateboard next do it looks normal. Is that typical in the UK?

    • @RyanCarrington
      @RyanCarrington  2 роки тому +2

      Aha what an interesting question. Im waiting for my new video to upload and i've used that waiting time to measure my doors 😂
      The lens and its positioning to the door definitely makes it look wider than it is.
      However, this room is upstairs in my house and all of my doors up here are really short compared to downstairs. ( I have no idea why they did this!) I have to duck slightly to get in otherwise I'll bang my head which I did alot when I first moved in haha.
      Anyway, that probably constitutes to it looking wide.
      The UK doesn't have a standard door size but apparently the most common is 762mm which this one practically is. Downstairs are 130mm taller which is over a foot. So these feel quite a lot shorter. I've also got very high ceilings which probably make the door look smaller and wider.
      Anyway, that was a fun little interlude. Now back to the upload 😂✌️

    So many layers I've learned from watching other people's reaction. You noticed how beautiful it all looks and at least one or two others noticed that. Can't be an accident. The filmmaker must want us to know something this horrible can happen in a beautiful place. Or alternatively maybe the vibrant colors are to represent a child's eye view of the world for it looks like Oz.
    I mean events that are happening now in Europe are demonstrating this idea in real time and real life.
