if you didnt catch it, captain K and his subordinate were gay lovers, so they both had a fundamental opposition to the nazi party, so he was sympathetic to jews and jojo and rosie etc
Not just that, in real history the lgbt community wasn't saved. They had to sit out their sentence in the camps because it was illegal everywhere. So him sacrificing himself for a kid is a way to show that he didnt give up. He went out fighting instead of imprisoned.
Incredible movie. Good reaction guys; definitely a gut puncher. All of the actors were just perfect, from Sam Rockwell right on down to Stephen Merchant. And if you ever read the book (Caging Skies), be prepared for something completely different. If you thought THIS was dark...
Wasn’t it interesting how a Jewish man played Hitler? First time in history. Yeah, this film was about a young boy processes all of the propaganda that is given to young children. One of top 10 films!
The Beatles and Bowie songs were originals. The Beatles rerecorded the two songs at the time of release as they were big in Germany. And Bowie did his during what was called his Berlin years. Links to the Beatles are two fold. To show through Beatlemania how kids were easily influenced to follow their idols; such as Hitler, and the second linking the German book burnings with the American youth attending burning rallies some 20 odd years later in the 60s to burn their Beatles memorabilia at the behest of their 'betters'.
Reading the synopsis before hand tarnishes the experience , it's like reading/watching movie reviews from other people it can/ does consciously or unconsciously influence preconceived ideals that may be polar opposite of ones own original thoughts and impressions One of the reason people didn't know Scarlett Johansson was in the movie is because she was not in the beginning movie credits , if people started asking her about the movie it may have leaked out about the shoe scene a major spoiler . Like a synopsis can be a spoiler sometimes .
Hi my friend, thanks for the comment. I understand where you're coming from, and I understand your thoughts on it. I do however want to say that almost every single time I have seen a movie in my life, I either have seen a trailer, or read the synopsis of it before I decided to watch it. As far back as I can remember, from childhood even, when I was a boy at the video store (back when there was still VHS tapes), even then I'd read a synopsis on the back of the box before renting a video. I also should mention that the people who requested this gave me even more insight into what this movie was in their request than what I had read from Google's synopsis.
Captain K (Sam Rockwell's character) and Finkel were both gay, they never were nazis, they were only soldiers because they didn't have a choice (between being a soldier or getting shot for desertion/refusal to take arms), and K may even have known about Jojo's mother's activities. In the battle scene, they wear the pink triangle on their uniforms. This triangle is what gay people would have had to wear in concentration camps, like Jews a yellow star. There were other signs, like political prisoners and others. The circumstances, context and everything are accurately depicted, Hitler's Youth attendance was mandatory and Jojo would have been born in 1934 or 1935, they would have taught nazi ideology at school and he wouldn't have known anything else in his life, unlike the people like Captain K or even Jojo's parents, who could have led totally different lives before Hitler's rise to power and the war. K and Finkel had to pretend before Rebel Wilson's character and other people. Everybody had to pretend, even being critical of the regime could get you executed, and there are stories of children who ratted their own parents out. The Gestapo hanging people was a real threat. Often, people were also simply taken away and nobody knew what happened to them, if they were alive or not. Great movie.
Hey bro, I'm so glad you watched this movie. I really love this movie. If you get a chance check out Only The Brave with Josh Brolin, or 12 Strong. Two great movies that get overlooked all the time which is a crying shame. Keep up the great reactions.
@@Yeedeed Cool, I promise you, you will love them. I have a million requests, but I'll throw them at you one or two at a time. Great job. That movie breaks my heart when the kid lost his mother and then lost Captain K. Great movie.
In retrospect, since I basically watched this movie a second time in editing this video, I really have even more awe for what Captain K did for him. He became such a compassionate person by the end of the movie, including sacrificing himself for the kid who contributed to ruining his status. Also, throw some more requests at me, let me give the guys some options, lol

Hi James, I actually responded to this in the comments previously. I respect your method of watching media, but as I previously said before, I never, ever ever ever watch anything without seeing the synopsis or watching a trailer. I need at least a little information before i am willing to devote my time to something. Taika had to walk a very fine line in this movie, which, in my opinion, he did beautifully. A masterpiece.
if you didnt catch it, captain K and his subordinate were gay lovers, so they both had a fundamental opposition to the nazi party, so he was sympathetic to jews and jojo and rosie etc
on their uniforms at the end you can see the pink triangles. That was the Nazi symbol to identify gay people
The upside down triangle on Finkel's helmet confirmed that.
Not just that, in real history the lgbt community wasn't saved. They had to sit out their sentence in the camps because it was illegal everywhere. So him sacrificing himself for a kid is a way to show that he didnt give up. He went out fighting instead of imprisoned.
Hence the pink Triangle on the uniform I believe
It is David Bowie Heroes, but it isn't a cover, Bowie recorded it in 4 languages
The opening credit sequence set to the Beatles' "I Want To Hold Your Hand" is also the fab four's singing in German.

The day war broke out in Ukraine I showed my husband this movie. It was the best way to lay out what was going on, being led to war blindly.

Real speech footage. Hitler was as big an icon in Germany as the Beatles. Do a little research, it's good to know things. I did enjoy the reaction.

Footage of the woman at the beginning of the film was from archive news reels from Hitler rallies.
