The guy who gave him the bananas is the oldest Wayans brother, Damon, in his first role. I love this movie, it's one of the best action movies from the 80's, no cheesey one liners, no over the top explosions, and the jokes/humor are great not forced into a situation just for a joke. Great reaction, you should definitely watch part two, it's awesome as well...happy birthday as well
FYI. Kenan is the oldest. Maybe watch "I'm gonna git you sucka". Kenan directed it before "In Livin' Color" and it's the first movie to really put them on the map. Also Happy Birthday 😊
Damon wayons is in 1988 movie called “Colors” dope flick about sets, gangs etc You’ll also see young actors who became big in the industry as well as veteran actors
Good to see you again! One of the best Action Comedy movies ever made! Originally Sylvester Stallone was going to play the role of Axel Foley, but hated the script as he didn't like the humor and wanted to be a darker violent action film. When producers read his rewritten draft, they refused to work with Stallone and Stallone took his rejected draft of the script and turned it into COBRA.
It was a lot more amicable than that, and the producers praised Stallone for being thoroughly professional and gentlemanly about the whole thing. Stallone didn’t hate the original script; he just wanted to tailor it to his own style by cutting down on the comedy and ratcheting up the action. He also wanted Axel’s last name to be Cobretti, so he could be nicknamed the “Motor City Cobra.” The producers didn’t refuse to work with Stallone; the studio balked because all the extra action that he had added was going to blow up the film’s budget, and said it had to be cut, whereupon Stallone graciously bowed out of the project. In fact, most of the cast were hired while Stallone was still attached to the film, including Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, and Lisa Eilbacher (who was going to be Stallone’s love interest). However, Mikey was going to be Axel’s brother, played by Stallone’s own brother Frank. Eddie Murphy was brought on just a couple of weeks before production started.
20:13 "dude you are terrible with stealth! Why does he get caught so much?" Axel doesn't do stealth, he does gaslighting. He doesn't sneak into places, he walks right up to the front door and convinces the guard he owns the place.
You're back!! With a classic from my HS years! Yay, welcome back, missed you, can't wait to watch this one! Great way to start a Sunday morning with my coffee...
The sequel is my fave of the series, so don't skip it. Tony Scott directs. The third is... not the strongest, but isn't terrible. For another 'hollywood cop' role for Eddie - Showtime, with Robert DeNiro.
LOVED this watchalong with you! Being in high school in '84, between this and Ghostbusters, man you couldn't go a day without anyone dropping a quote from these gems... "This isn't my locker... don't be ridickoolus... back off man, I'm a scientist..." 😂😂😂 You should try sgt Taggart in Midnight Run, same director as Bev Hills Cop 😂
Part of me is hoping it’ll get a cinematic re-release sometime in 2024 to commemorate its fortieth anniversary. It’d be great seeing this on the big screen with an audience.
I used to work at a hotel and Black Sabath was staying there. There were these 2 professional autograph seekers that hung outside fornevery famous person that stayed there to sell the autographs on the internet. So Tony Iomi had his girlfriend do a sexy dance on the table to distract them through the window while Tony(Ozzy's personal assistant) took the potatos I gave him and stuffed them in thier tailpipe. Was hilarious.
Definitely react to the sequel, Beverly Hills Cop II (1987). It was made by the Simpson/Bruckheimer clan (they made Top Gun) so the action, comedy, explosions, and shenanigans are dialed up to 11!
happy Birthday! fun review. you are the first one to connect the bonded warehouse scene with Customs clearance issues which is why Axel’s ruse as being a Customs Inspector was so good.
Taggart and Rosewood were climbing that wall by themselves? No stunt-doubles as it looks like, can anyone confirm? John Aston (Taggart) was 36 in 1984, he looks like in his 50s :)

The movie made such an impression on Paramount executives that they comitted to a sequel moments after the first private executive screening of the completed film. Axel's boss, Inspector Todd, was in fact a real life Detroit police detective at the time!!! The director noticed him during a trip to the police station and hired him for the part! Bronson Pinchot invented the persona of "Serge" himself after being inspired by all the shop assistants in Beverly Hills whose nationality was ambiguous. His meeting with Axel in the art gallery was almost entirely ad-libbed and had to be done many times due to members of the cast and crew breaking up with laughter. The hilarious bit where Axel rolls up to the Harrow club in his "crappy blue chevy-nova" and says something like "Put it in a good spot, all this sh*t happened the last time I parked here" was a witty ad-lib by Murphy, as was the entire "SuperCop" story he tells to Bogamil. Producer Don Simpson sadly passed away in early 1996, after years of battling drug addiction. "The Rock" was the last film he and Jerry Bruckheimer made together. Bruckheimer, on the other hand, has spent the last 15 years producing movies on his own, and doing wonderfully with it. He finished out the 90's with "ConAir", "Armageddon" and "Enemy Of The State". In the 21st Century, he turned some of his talents to television with such shows as "The Amazing Race", "Cold Case", and the three "CSI" series. But Mr. Blockbuster(as he's called) also continued his film work with "Pearl Harbor", "Gone In 60 Seconds" and "Black Hawk Down". But beginning in 2002, his partnering with Walt Disney Pictures has given Jerry some of his greatest success, especially the two franchises "Pirates Of The Caribbean" and "National Treasure". During the "supercops" scene John Ashton has his head down pinching his face in apparent frustration but he is actually laughing. Judge Reinhold had his hand in his pocket pinching his leg as hard as he could to stop himself laughing. This is one of many scenes with improvised lines. Eddie Murphy, John Ashton and Judge Reinhold all had improvised comic lines throughout the film and there were many ruined scenes because of the cast and crew breaking out in laughter. The scene where Taggart & Rosewood are sat in their car and Rosewood talks about "the average middle age American man having 5 pounds of undigested red meat in his bowels" was actually used as a casting scene. The director was testing the chemistry between the finalists and gave them scenes to improvise. Ashton & Reinhold's scene was as an average middle-age couple. The scene in the film is their improvision that got them the parts. From: www.fast-rewind.com/making_bhcop.htm

I agree that part 3 kind of missed the mark. I love this first outing, and the second is really epic as well:) It finds its groove with the action and comedy under the smooth direction of Tony Scott:) Looking forward to the fourth installment coming soon:)
"Before I go, I just want you two to know something, alright? The supercop story... was working. Okay? It was working, and you guys just messed it up. Okay? I'm trying to figure you guys out, but I haven't yet. But it's cool. You fuck up a perfectly good lie." Fun Fact: Film debut of Damon Wayans and Alice Cadogan. Gilbert R. Hill, a real-life Detroit Police Department Homicide Detective, played Inspector Todd. Hill later served as President of the Detroit City Council. Projection Headline Fact: During his tirade at the Beverly Palms Hotel, Axel (Eddie Murphy) pretends to be writing an article called "Michael Jackson: Sitting On Top Of The World" for Rolling Stone magazine. In real life, Playboy ran an Eddie Murphy article with the same "Sitting On Top Of The World" subtitle. Double Assault Fact: The mansion used in the final shootout between Axel (Eddie Murphy) and Maitland (Steven Berkoff), the former Harold Lloyd estate in Beverly Hills, is the same mansion seen in the final shootout between Matrix and Arius in Commando (1985). Coincidentally, both heroes were trying to rescue somebody named Jenny (Lisa Eilbacher) in that mansion in their respective films. What Script Fact: Eddie Murphy, John Ashton, and Judge Reinhold improvised most of their comic lines. During the "super-cops" monologue, Ashton is pinching his face hard and looking down in apparent frustration. He is actually laughing. Reinhold put his hand in his pocket and pinched his thigh really hard, trying to prevent himself from laughing.
Happy Birthday Ryan and this movie is a classic. The second one is just as good. The third movie I loved as a kid and rewatched a couple years ago and I’m like wtf this movie was horrible
Watching this as lads we just said "get the fk outa here!" all the time lol An action comedy that isn't just murder/beheading porn and scatalogical humour. The art of these films is lost :/
Great reaction. I've loved this since i was a kid, when it was first on British tv, i agree this one isn't often on. Hope you watch the second one too, that's also really good (in my opinion).. This film though u s my 5th favourite movie, the only ones i love more are Pulp Fiction, Halloween (og), Die Hard, and A Fish Called Wanda.
One of the reasons 3 never quite landed with me is there was no Taggart. The replacement character wasn't bad, per se, but just didn't have the same chemistry with Axel and Billy.
This is the best one, by far. The second one leans more into action, less so comedy. It's just not as good. COP was directed by Martin Brest, who also directed the great MIDNIGHT RUN.
@@RyanCarrington I'm an old yank. No way to know what's hip and cool nowadays. Cept you. You're cool. Lol I will keep enjoying your stuff. Thanks, man.
@RyanCarrington yea it was a box office flop. Your basic action movie with nothing but action and some good one liners. Worth a watch though. In Beverly Hills cop 2 there's a bit of a nod to the film. Theres a movie poster of Cobra that shows up.

I never knew about the Rolling Stone article! That’s so funny! 😂😂
Whoever edited this video made the movie 5x funnier, i didnt know that was possible
Oh wow! High praise indeed! I'll give myself a pay rise 😂👊
@RyanCarrington omg it was you?!? The cat nodding to the theme song almost took me away from this earth 🤣🤣
I swear I was cracking up so much from all the awesome edits! I was bobbing my head when the cat came on & it took me out! 😂😂😂
"What brings him back in the sequel?" --- Well! I guess sir, you are going to have to watch it and find out!
Frank Bruno has a distinctive laugh.
Ooh good one!
Completely unrelated, but now you should watch Beverly Hills Ninja, starring Chris Farley.
Love your reactions; They have repeat watchability.
Thanks! Love to hear it 😀
Happy Birthday Ryan and this movie is a classic. The second one is just as good. The third movie I loved as a kid and rewatched a couple years ago and I’m like wtf this movie was horrible
Haha yeah, I haven't watched it for a good while 😅
48 HRS is grittier, and Eddie's best movie
I've added it to the list!
Eddie's stunt double, who throws Jonathan Banks's stunt double over the table, looks more like Richard Pryor than Eddie Murphy :p
I literally thought it was Richard Pryor!
Rich "Dick the birthday boy" Evans has a very distinctive laugh.
Jimmy Carr's laugh is epic.
Watching this as lads we just said "get the fk outa here!" all the time lol
An action comedy that isn't just murder/beheading porn and scatalogical humour. The art of these films is lost :/
I’ve never heard the term scatalogical humor before, so I had to look it up! 😂😂
part 2 is even better--.- more action more jokes more guns more stuff more of everything ^^
Halloween was one of the first few reactions I did. I've seen the others except for the last one so I'll add it to the list 🤙
I'll keep an eye out for it.
At 26:45 I was doing the same thing! 😂😂😂 That cracked me up!
1 and 2 the best…happy belated birthday
Thanks man 👊
One of the reasons 3 never quite landed with me is there was no Taggart. The replacement character wasn't bad, per se, but just didn't have the same chemistry with Axel and Billy.
I can't even remember the replacement character 😂
@@RyanCarrington see? Lol
I like the edit at the beginning XD
Thanks man! Appreciate that.
Probably wasn't worth the extra few hours it took, but it was fun 🙌
All your edits are worth the time to us, & we absolutely appreciate the hard work you do! You are hilarious my man!
You should check out society of the snow, i would love to hear what you have to say about that one
You gotta check BH2 it's the BEST in the series and Directed by Tony Scott!
Good ol Billy Big Balls
Nah, not Crazy Frog Theme, Axel Fowly Theme. That tune is litterally called "Axel F".
Foley* lol. Damn autocorrect
You should check out 48 hrs. A lot darker and, IMHO, Eddie Murphy's best overall role.
Definitely coming soon!
Happy birthday
Thank you!
@@RyanCarrington you're welcome
trading places is another eddie comedy and not to sound pervy but we get to enjoy jamie lee curtis full frontal
This is the best one, by far. The second one leans more into action, less so comedy. It's just not as good. COP was directed by Martin Brest, who also directed the great MIDNIGHT RUN.
48 hrs 1 and 2 great too eddie in buddy cop films with nick nolte
35:11 "Welcome to the party, pall"
Sorry, wrong movie.
You need to watch crocodile Dundee 1&2
👍
Amadeus Mozart (have you seen the movie?)...
Not the South Park edit 😂😂
I need to stop with these edits 💀
@@RyanCarrington NO DON’T! 😂😂 I live for the random edits! They kill me & I’m 100% here for it!
Happy birthday to you 🎉🥳 also, why didn't you say Axel's car was minging? Please react to The Golden Child - another 80s Eddie Murphy flick. ❤
God, I haven't said minging since I was about 15 😂
I'll add that movie to the list!
@@RyanCarrington I'm an old yank. No way to know what's hip and cool nowadays. Cept you. You're cool. Lol I will keep enjoying your stuff. Thanks, man.
@shediva5705 haha tbf I don't know what's cool these days either haha
I just had to look that word up. Siri wouldn’t register what I said lmao.
This was written for Stallone but he didnt like the comedy aspect and turned it down and did Cobra instead.
Ahhhh! I haven't seen Cobra either. Can't even say I've heard of that one 😅
@RyanCarrington yea it was a box office flop. Your basic action movie with nothing but action and some good one liners. Worth a watch though. In Beverly Hills cop 2 there's a bit of a nod to the film. Theres a movie poster of Cobra that shows up.
