I think the success of the steam deck should inform every company that there is a massive market for handheld gaming, especially high end.
Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch are two massively succesful platform that really show that hamdheld gaming is still a popular thing.

Steam Deck isn’t even 2 million. Its a good success for Valve only because it can use the PC library. Any console selling like that is in fail territory and will not draw big budget support. Kind of like the Vita.

Wouldn't surprise me honestly. The market has certainly changed from back when the PS Vita first launched, and I'm sure they have noticed this.

@@wargamesmaster Yup, for example, using proprietary memory card is a big mistake. That memory card cost quite a lot of money even now days comparing to standard micro SD with the same 64GB capacity. They should use standard SD card or even micro SD card instead. Yes, We could use SD2VITA if We modded the console, but I won't since I still have some original game cartridges and I love playing it using my cartridge. Also it's missing R2-L2 and lack of optimization on some tittles. But, even with all those flaws I don't know why I still love this console.

I agree! My greatest fear though is that Sony may have lost too much Goodwill with its handheld base at this point, could be another Sega situation all over again.
@@PSVitaat2am Well, if Sony do everything their customers/fans wanted for years, make retrocompatible in some way the device (like, whatever you have on your Digital library right now), NOT force us to factory reset the console when we want to use another PSN account and make the analog sticks not as fragile as with the Vita (seriously, the one time I had to repair my Vita was because of a broken analog stick), Sony will recover some of their lost "honor" so to speak.
Hopefully we will see another PS Vita handheld system and one with all the features of the PSP and PS Vita in a PS Vita 2 or PSP 2 with trophy support and cross play with the PS 4/5 that way we can play games like Monster Hunter World on the go or with our friends in the hobby store like in the old days
That day has to come, we just got to keep our chins up and staying positive! 💪
I do feel a little down since the 3ds eShop got shut down. More people play FEH and Pokemon Go than their 3ds counterparts nowadays. Whenever I go on campus, most people are on their smartphones than a dedicated handheld.
I moved on from the 3ds since I mostly play on the PS Vita. Virtual-On is pretty fun despite the hardware showing its age.
I'll be picking up a spare PS Vita just in case they ever shut down the PS Vita store. 😉

It does make me wonder what Sony would call the new handheld if they ever did get around to making a new one. 🤔
Personally I'd like to see Sony just acknowledge they've dropped the ball on handhelds but to embrace the software side, create a "launcher" app/game in which to buy back catalog games to play on your handheld of choice. That way they can cash in on their massive back catalogue but also dissuade those away from piracy. I fear they'll do nothing though until there is already a major improvement on the the Vita Emulator, and then it'll be too late for them.
I could see this being a possibility, what's even worse is that even if they did come out with a new handheld with the gaming community trust them at this point? Could be another Sega issue all over again.
On the flipside, Rinne&gl33ntwine ported Backstab HD on the vita.

I wouldve preferred the PS2 version of Dark Mirror as I believe you could use both thumbsticks for control.

It would be great if they did make a new handheld console, but under Jim Ryan, it's very unlikely. I still hope for it, but every time it seems close to happening, nothing actually happens. And this isn't exactly impressive considering there are already PSP emulators that can play these games. It's in fact really disappointing from Sony that it took them this long considering their current home consoles have so much hardware firepower, that it wouldn't even be hard to emulate the PSP and it's games. And also I don't agree with those who said a new handheld should just be a remote play device. It should not be that as I think the point of it being portable is so that we can also play our games offline if we go to places where there are no strong wi-fi connections else I wouldn't consider it a handheld console cause our phones could do remote play and I don't consider them handheld consoles.
I will admit that I think that our chances of ever getting a new handheld from Sony would have to be when Jim Ryan is no longer with the company. Or has a change of heart, which I don't have high hopes for.

Would you be okay with a tablet streaming PS games from a server like Xbox Cloud Gaming? That handheld would make it possible to run a lot of demanding games.
Honestly I wouldn't mind it. Even though I'm more of a physical game collector that I am with the digital stuff. Still it's something I would dabble into is that's where the market is headed more these days.
They haven’t still acknowledged the Vita’s games. They keep going back to PSP and PS1.
I'm hoping this is baby steps to something greater in the future. 🤔

I say we need more PSP and PS1 games for me to buy on PS4. That said I bought Chrono Cross on PS4 couple weeks ago. 😅 I need my blocky PlayStation graphics damn it. Next is Valkyrie Profile!

Here i got a really nice surprise....i got both wild arms and legend of dragoon on ps3 long time ago and when i look in the ps4 library i could redownload all 3 games for free..and i dont have the plus deluxe just the regular and cheap one. All games come with trophy support and all the good stuff. I really hope sony bring more and more classics with this "respect" for gamers which already purchased on old consoles like ps3 and psvita...(please sony bring the old tomb raider games and hehe the neptunia series from psvita to ps4 and ps5...

James I said this once before on your channel over a year ago. Sony would be fools not to make a PS Vita 2 . Look at all the other handhelds that came out last year and this year and more on the way. Personally i wouldn't be surprised if sony has been looking at possible designs of the vita 2 some where in their secret hideout. Look Sony is planning on making their PS5 Slim. What if and I'm saying what if the PS5 Slim come out on the same day we get the PS Vita 2 now that would be AWESOME 😊
Yep I completely agree! Times have changed, and the handheld market certainly wasn't what it used to be compared to 2012, as it's a lot more healthy these days!

@@PSVitaat2am Better textures and lighting. In the psp version you move using the face buttons and on the ps2 you move like a twin stick shooter. Unless they bring back the online that the psp had i have no clue why they used that version.

Why release a handheld and then attempt to support that with new games and bla bla. When you can let people stream ps5 in their mobile phones and sell supported controller adapters etc.

And you can stream it all on your smartphone.

It does make me wonder that at the very least we might see some PBS Vita games get added to the PS4 and PS5 digital stores. They have to work around some of the more gimmicky features of the PS vita, but man would I love to see this!
Imagine if Sony got to cash in on the Steam Deck-like market and released a PlayStation-branded handheld PC. They could perhaps leverage those PC ports they commissioned lately.

The only reason I wouldn't want Sony to make a new handheld is the dread knowing that it may fail like it did the Vita
That's what I worry about too, along with the fear that Sony may have lost too much Goodwill with the handheld market because of how they treated the PS Vita.

Sony DID do something right, at least twice. They made the Vita TV and Vita handheld. Honestly, though, I wish they would do something worthwhile like make a Vita 2 hadheld with a bigger screen, non proprietary memory cards, better battery life, etc. instead of just adding PSP games to PS 4 and 5? I mean, really? Why? What's the point? We want these new features on their original devices, not just emulated on their newer overpriced consoles! And, what is it going to be like? Adding new tunes to Midnight Club, or a couple of new race tracks to Crash Team Racing? I dunno it's just pointless to me. I am sorry but this to me just seems like Sony is taking the pee. Like saying, "Oohh, see, we still remember the PSP and the Vita, and guys as long as you own a PS 4 of PS 5 you can play at least 3 each of their titles. Just don't expect us to do anything on the real hardware they were intended for, OK?! They suck too bad and don't give us money anymore." I have just about given up on Sony. Not on the Vita/Vita TV, those are still awesome, but the Company itself.

I saw the Vita get a mention in an article because Sony did an ad about remote play recently:

What's funny if you watch it though, is that it doesn't seem to show or mention the Vita at all! It's mobiles, tablets, laptops and pushing the backbone accessory.
The Vita is like the black sheep of the Sony family now, isn't it? They're going back and re-releasing psp games (Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, Persona 2 and 3 Portsble got ports in recent months, for example), but all the great Vita games don't seem to get any attention. I'd definitely be interested in ports of Golden Abyss, Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice, etc, even though I already have them on Vita. A localised port of Phantasy Star Nova would be excellent too.
Oh interesting! To be honest this doesn't surprise me, but it may be worth doing a video on this in the future. Just to show more of the PS Vita's neglect. 😔
@PSVita at 2am Or there's a rumour from Insider Gaming that there's an unannounced piece of hardware due from Sony. It's probably not a new handheld, but it's nice to dream sometimes.

In regards to whether there will be a handheld or not, depends on how well the PS5 can perform without a "companion handheld" in Japan this generation (9th). If PS5 is crushed effortlessly again by the Switch Successor, then I think Sony as a whole (not just PlayStation) might go more into mobile offerings and try to release an Android based device that could use Sony specific app store as that'll be allowed next year. The nice thing is, said device wouldn't be as risky since people could play those games on their iOS or Android based devices if they don't want the Sony optimized hardware, so we'd get games :D Now to me, this isn't just optimism but a wise idea since mobile is the platform that the majority of people are on. It's just good business and since Microsoft is looking to do this next year, we've got some good precedence. Though it would be funny if Microsoft came out with a handheld before Sony returned to doing such.
So what you're suggesting is essentially a Sony XPeria Play 2...?
Or, if we ignore the slide-out gamepad, a Sony Mobile store 2.0?

Yes that would be crazy! Still to this day I am shock that Microsoft never dabbled into the handheld market. I guess now with Game pass I can see that'll probably never happen.
It's funny you say that, because they released a remote play ad recently, showing how the ps5 can play with controller support on mobile devices, tablets, laptops, etc. Literally no sign or mention of the Vita or PSP though, so they don't seem to be looking at a dedicated handheld device, but rather ways of using existing devices already out there. But at least they're acknowledging that there is a market for that. Hopefully they'll follow that thought to it's logical (correct) conclusion and release a new handheld.
Checked my Vita and panels were not showing awhile back and now panels are back on the Vita

Honestly I would expect Sony to make a move like that. If they ever were to create a new handheld I highly doubt they would use the PS Vita name. As much as I would love it I agree that it would be best not to.
As a huge Ape Escape fan, this news greatly excites me.

I'm content with them acknowledging their past handheld history, as the PSP and Vita had some killer games, that many gamers can still enjoy today. If by some miracle they ever do decide to make another handheld, they will sabotage it without question, as they don't have a clue. So it's best they stay in their lane with just offering past games on current systems with new features, as anything else will be a major waste of time.

Bernie Stolar. Before he ruined the Sega Saturn in the west he was at Sony. Bernie had a hate of JRPGs and 2D games. Playstation exploded in popularity after he left partially because of his policies being revered...also because his polices led to the downfall of the Saturn in the west. In Japan the Saturn was the most popular system Sega put out and due to his policies a lot of the games that actually made the Saturn popular in Japan were not localized.
