Moonlight is cool, if you fancy streaming games. The only thing that really hampers the Vita as a streaming device is the lack of clickable sticks and proper trigger buttons. I enjoyed Metroid Dread, Stray and Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade recently. The latter were really niceto play, as they don't really need the missing buttons. Oh, and my wifi only has 100MBit max, but I never experienced any significant input lag. Not sure if it's a config thing, but why would I stream a resolution higher that the Vita's native 960x544?
Oh I know how you feel about that one Franz, I too wish the PS Vita had clickable joysticks. Would have made so much of a difference.
luckily you can use an external controller with some quick mods, although this obviously reduces the "handheld nature" of the vita but can still improve the experience greatly

I know it'd need to have some cutbacks, down from 720P to likely below the Vita's native 540P, and whatnot, but I'd love to see Tears of the Kingdom or other Switch heavy hitters like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 running on a Vita.
Pokémon, Xenoblade and others would be right at home on Vita, it's a great RPG machine.
You got that right! Even to this day the PS Vita is well known for its jrpgs and indie titles. So it fits. 🤗

Apparently Vita3k the PSVita emulator has been getting improvements and is best suited for steamdeck. The list of status of games is outdated right now but many games play well under this. Some things still need to be implemented such as gyro controls but do expect improvements in the future.

Yeah it really is a sight to see!
You can use moonlight for Playing anything on your pc to your vita. Yuzu plus moonlight and some optimisations to reduce latency make it a very playable game.
My "friend" has been doing this for years and although a direct vita to pc WiFi connection or home network works best. "he" has been using his vita to play breath of the wild, Mario kart 8 delux and "his" full steam library when out and about for ages.
You can find many guide to reduce latency online.
I guess the vita can even replace the sony Q , before it even hits the shelf.

You guys do bring up a good point, with moonlight project q is already out by Sony, in the form of the PS Vita.
@@PSVitaat2am that's not what I meant personally, they released that special phone controller a while back, with that and ANY halfway decent phone....you have a q. The q is unnecessary and redundant. But Sony doesn't have a good track record with handling handhelds well.

it doesn't matter how mush internet you have once you past the point the vita can handle. Sadly that's what holds it back from being a really amazing steaming handheld. I wish someone would come out with a wifi card hack to push more out of it. Maybe use the game slot like they do with SD mod. I'd be fine with having to put in a small vita SD to have better streaming can always put the SD back in when I want to play other things.
I got to admit, I certainly wouldn't mind having that kind of upgrade for the PS Vita. Just imagine the possibilities! 😁

Yeah, just Yuzu and Moonlight. It's streaming, the Vita isn't doing any processing beyond video via 2.4ghz wifi...which isn't ideal.
You can do it with anything.

I mean this is cool news (and as always James thank you for the content) but you can stream anything to anything if you want to do it badly enough. You can play Halo on a GameBoy Advance if you're determined enough. I'm not just saying that at random -- I've seen videos on here demonstrating it. The resolution may be terrible, the input lag may suck, but if it has a screen you can stream to it.

I see this less as a, "meh, emulated and streamed," idea and more of a showcase on how far we can push PSVita Limits.
Unrelated note. I have a modded Vita and a Modded 3DS. And one thing I didn't realize until a few days ago was that the 3DS didn't have Bluetooth connectivity for headphones.
I haven't played my 3DS in a long time, but yeah I remember that not being a thing on it sadly. I think a lot of people would have loved to have it available.

Ok I am confused. In an earlier video we were all saying how happy we were that Sony was going to make a new console, but it was going to be streaming online only and we were all disappointed again. And now we hear about the Vita running the new Zelda game, but that it was only possible through streaming.and we are supposed to be happy about that? And, if that's the case then surely the new Sony handheld should be a good thing because it will be designed for streaming (all be it for the PS5 but I bet it won't take long to hack.) So, am I reading something wrong here? Should we now be excited again for the new Sony console if and when it arrives? Also, is this comment a confused mess? I apologize if it is. Thanks again James for the info though. You really know how to confuse an old bear. 😂
Yeah I'm getting the q just to figure out hacks, so think it is interesting.
Don't get me wrong streaming is an awesome thing! I think the reason why we were so disappointed with project q is because it's marketed as Sony's next handheld without being a true successor. I think if project you was at least able to download games along with it streaming idea, more people would be down with it.
I think people are forgetting that the Q is just a basic phone running remote play with a dual sense glued on. You can literally do what the q does now for £10 with your current phone, that's the issue with the Q

I thought someone actually did a port. Unfortunately, it's just game streaming. In this case, you can play any game on the vita as long as you have a PC to stream it from.

I have a Ps vita slim and I need more recent updates 😢❤
Moonlight is never great on vita due to the outdated WiFi chip. I've never been able to get it perfect even right next to my router. Still little audio pops and micro stutters and lag overall. I just got an ROG ally and its insane streaming 1080@120fps flawlessly over the latest WiFi tech. Butter smooth PC games.
I guess it demands a high-end PC in order to get running, which unfortunately I don't have. 😭
@@PSVitaat2am oh not really. Just a graphics card from the last 10 years really. Anything that allows capturing via current methods. And yuzu doesn't require too high end of a PC either. The handheld systems like ROG ally and Steamdeck are ALMOST perfectly emulating switch, more or less. So that gives you an idea of the kinda PC you need.

Ya as much as I love the enthusiasm it is not about the PSV being able to "handle it". if they ever made moonlight for the PSP this would work as well.

Eh, it's not really running on the Vita, just using it as a controller and display. It's nice for the form factor at least. It's mostly the same as me running FF14 on my Vita via the PS4.

I mean you can if you want, but even if you signed in you shouldn't have any trouble with Sony modding it. Sony has never banned any PSN accounts for modding their PS Vita as far as I'm aware of, the only do so if you use cheating apps. It's at your discretion of course though.

Not a milestone, unfortunately. People have been posting this as a prank for years, playing the LATEST HOTTEST GAME streamed through Moonlight to the Vita.
Happened with Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 7 Remaster, too. Every time there's a huge AAA hyped game released, seems like this article pops up. Though this particular one conflates the features of the emulator with the features of Moonlight to try to sell the article as relevant.
The input lag isn't too bad on Moonlight, but it's best with turn-based RPGs and strategy games and the like that don't mind a little delay. Now that you've noticed one, expect to keep seeing articles like this in the future =D
BUT--Maybe talking about ideal or even head-turner games that stream great through Moonlight to a Vita could be a great topic for a future video!

I know you have been busy lately, but just wanted to let you know that the Xbox 360 store is going to be shut down next year in 2024. I'll be keeping an eye out on the PS Vita store. In the meantime, I got plenty of PS Vita games to last me thru the 2030s.

Yeah it's pretty expensive stuff if you want it to run at optimal speed, as much as it can at the moment anyway.
It's not really a new thing. You can play anything by streaming thru pc. It's just someone tried to play that game... You can even use moonlight for any other normal pc functions. Streaming a emulator to vita is not that big news. What i'm trying to say is: it's nothing new or a milestone to psvita. It was already capeable. If it was a port (which it is impossible at this point) it could be great news. Good video tho. I love your videos.
